But she's still the only one who wears glasses.
-
I don't feel like I'm assuming the worst. I am going by what they showed me -- the only person in the trailer with glasses is the misfit/ungifted person. It might be nice if some of the others wore glasses, too.

I love curling, and will watch all the curling matches I can during the Winter Olympics.

But why can't the girl with glasses in Encanto be special too? Of course she's the misfit! If she gets special after she no longer has to wear glasses (or if she gets special by removing her glasses, Superman), that will be even more problematic for me. Or maybe, all the talented people could wear glasses and the one without could be the untalented misfit! It isn't that characters don't wear glasses, it's that characters who wear glasses are usually the cranky or ugly or untalented ones. Carl from Up? Cranky as hell. Sabrina from Sabrina? Ugly and beneath notice until she got contacts. And now, this girl -- in a world of special people, she has no talents. I'll give you that it's less bad than it once was, but it still bugs me.

You can get the shingles vax if you have had the shingles. You can't get the shingles vax if you currently have an outbreak of shingles. I wish mine had shown up on my waist! Or really, anywhere except my face. The entire right side of my head hurt to the touch, but I only had a few blisters at my temple.

Instaget FJ tonight -- cleft led me to the right hymn. Great game! Hardly any TS, and I only got two of them, Kerouac and Gamecock. I almost had Margrethe of Denmark, but I couldn't quite get past "Mar- somebody". I should have gotten Lesotho, but it wouldn't come to me either.

I'm looking forward to it, but why does the girl who wears glasses have to be the ungifted girl?

FilmNight: Movies you watched recently

I saw "Lansky" this week. It's about Meyer Lansky, who was a pivotal figure in organized crime back in the heyday of organized crime. I'd never heard of him before, but he was pals with Lucky Luciano and Bugsy Siegel. Has anyone else seen it? I have a couple of questions, notably, who was the man in the cowboy hat? -
I WISH I'd gotten my shingles shot last year before I got the shingles. On my FACE. I probably will get the shot later this summer.

Bruce and the gang are at least still together. Sting has been a solo act since the mid-80s.

Catching up from Tuesday -- FJ was an instaget, and I wrote it with the "THE" as well. I also got the TS of caffeine, coal, Obama, dulcet, Lourdes, anterior cruciate ligament, dura mater, and UVA (ugh). Tonight's FJ was so much of an instaget that I thought I couldn't possibly be correct, but it was the only one that made sense to me. The Police? Terrible guess! Tonight's TS that I managed were Reagan, orb, Island of Dr. Moreau, drupe, fish, Cimarron, and Wailing Wall. I hate spiders! I hated that category! Sooooo glad there weren't photos! And yet somehow I ran it. Know thine enemy, I guess.

The Andy Griffith Show - General Discussion
Browncoat replied to Maverick's topic in The Andy Griffith Show
Thelma Lou wasn't one of the original characters. She didn't appear until Episode 22 of the first season. -
Center all the way. I'll eat the edge pieces, but I really don't like the corners.

I don't care what anyone says -- I'm taking snacks with me to the airport and on the plane! Especially now that you don't get free food during flights anymore.

I only got the Tonkin half of FJ tonight. But I did get the TS of marmoset, fronds, MRI, and Foucault pendulum. I had no idea that the rap of rap sheet actually stood for anything. I honestly never thought about what it might mean or stand for.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
Browncoat replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
Most of the morons in my locale stopped with their illegal fireworks before midnight last night -- at least the ones I could hear with my house all closed up. (Last night would have been a great night to leave the windows open, but for the noise.) And since they all started with their fireworks before lunchtime yesterday, that gave them a good 12 hours to terrify their dogs and cats. My town had their professional show on Saturday night. It's been a long weekend. I am beginning to hate the 4th of July because of this. Like I said before, the professional shows don't bother me in the slightest, but the random loud whistles and booms bother me more and more each year. -
Looks like you had a gorgeous day! I like that little park.

I might have gotten it if I'd missed the Band part of the clue! I should have focused on Georgia.
-
I got Thursday's asterisk.
-
A sad 2/5 this week, but one of them was an asterisk, so I've got that going for me.
-
My people! I also call double foul on the night oil and Baskin and Robbins responses. Those are just wrong wrong wrong. Good wagering by the champ. I missed FJ -- the only song I could think of by The Band was The Weight, and that didn't make sense at all. I figured it was for Carter, but I had no idea The Band recorded that song. I did get the TS of Bay of Fundy, puffball (I have a lot of those in my yard in the fall!), ergot, and Asimov.

Glad all is (mostly) well, @Netfoot!

In Jefferson's time, the Ohio River was in Virginia. It wasn't until 1784 that Virginia gave up its territory north and west of the Ohio. http://www.virginiaplaces.org/boundaries/boundaryk.html

Mr. Google tells me that that dog is a Bernese/Great Pyrenees mix named Odin, who is a performing dog.
