  1. It's strictly a budgetary thing -- how much does each piece of music cost to re-license, and how much is the company buying the rights willing to pay. TVGN strikes me as rather parsimonious, so I'm not surprised to hear they've gone with the replacement music.
  2. Ah, okay; I misread that (I'll blame the late hour). I never thought about the possibility they hadn't had sex until the discussion was raised on TWoP. After that, I could see how some lines and scenarios I'd always interpreted one way could, in fact, be interpreted to indicate the opposite. I still don't think they waited until the wedding night, if for no other reason than I can't come up with an explanation for why they'd have done so, but the show certainly doesn't make it clear when they had sex, so I just try not to put too much thought into it. I do remember that line, though - about as "explicit" as the show got.
  3. I'm missing how that line is a definitive indication one way or the other as to the timing of their sexual relationship. Amanda puts him off at that particular moment due to circumstance, but I don't think that says anything conclusively as to their relationship as a whole -- at the time it's uttered, it could mean they are not having sex, period, as per usual, or not having sex right now because they have bigger fish to fry. I think this saccharine, early-hour show set up a scenario - deliberately, given the removal of the pre-marital scene in which it was clear they had it off - in which those who believe they abstained until marriage and those who believe they took a less regimented path could both point to canon as support.
  4. Yeah, not a ton of surprises so far, but there have been some results I wasn't expecting (e.g. Beyond the Sea coming in third instead of first or second). None of the top fives have produced a "How the hell did that get there?" reaction in me (I'm a little surprised by The End, but then I look at what a weak season that is); my "Wow, really?" reactions have come from lower rankings -- season four is the only round thus far where there isn't one episode ranked much lower than I'd place it. In ascending order of degree to which I really was not expecting that: - 2Shy out early in season three at #19 - The Jersey Devil tied for second-to-last place in season one - Humbug only ranked as #12 in season two - Kill Switch a paltry #11 in season five (I initially considered Humbug's placement my biggest surprise - and it's probably my biggest disappointment - but I realized Kill Switch is even more surprising to me given the weakness of that season.)
  5. Family and friends watching TV with me cringe when they hear a character say "PIN number" or "ATM machine," because they know I'm about to yell at the television.
  6. I caught Robert Osborne and Alec Baldwin discussing Design for Living, specifically the intricacies of the sexual relationships between the three principals, and wound up watching the film again - even though it's probably my least-favorite offering from Lubitsch, who is on the whole one of my favorite directors - to see if I thought there was anything going on between the characters played by Fredric March and Gary Cooper, as I'd always just taken it that Miriam Hopkins' character was sleeping with both of them, not that they were all sleeping together. And I still think the gay subtext of the play is missing (which wouldn't be a surprise, really, since virtually nothing of the play remains). But then I think I'm missing something by not seeing it (as a rule, I'm neither blind to such subtext nor prone to seeing it everywhere). So I'm curious to hear the thoughts of others who've seen the film.
  7. I don't know if I should even vote on these seasons, especially seven, since there are so many I don't remember (and there are probably episodes from season seven I've never even seen). Oh well - it's not like there are any real-world consequences to this, so I'll give it a go. S6: The Beginning Two Fathers The Unnatural S7: First Person Shooter Fight Club Closure
  8. I made waffles for dinner tonight thanks to this thread. Waffles for dinner was a treat growing up - my dad was not a big fan of them (for breakfast), so it was something my mom and I really enjoyed when he was out of town, and eating them for dinner felt special. My dad has repaired their ancient waffle iron twice, because my mom rightly insists an equivalent replacement simply cannot be bought today. Mine is an inferior modern offering, but it still turns out tasty waffles. I only make breakfast on the weekends, and it's usually an egg white dish with pancakes, French toast or waffles as the occasional treat, but reading multiple posts about waffles meant I couldn't wait for breakfast. Yum!
  9. That scene had an odd vibe to it, didn't it?
  10. F is for the annual Fine Manners Ball, and the Finishing School at which it was held. When Bobby Joe Springer escorted Blanche back to her dorm after that ball, an innocent goodnight kiss developed into an evening of passion. When Miss McGuyver burst in for a bed check, Blanche tried to handle the whole thing like a lady – waving politely over Bobby Joe’s shoulder with her foot – but was nonetheless kicked out of school. Only she didn’t care – she knew what ecstasy was.

I thought I had posted this Tuesday, but apparently got caught up in something and forgot. Dave Zirin gave a wonderful interview on Democracy Now, a 20-minute exploration of just about every issue implicated by Rice's actions and the response to them.
  12. So many people have that issue there are states in which "someone died here" is among the list of things sellers must disclose. Unless the dead body comes with the house, I don't understand how this is something to get upset about, but this is one time where something might not be any more common on HH than it is in reality.
  13. I complained about that commercial before, because the attitude behind it really bothers me. "You're terrible at parallel parking, so it's inevitable that you'll damage someone else's property one day. No big deal, just buy an insurance policy from us. I mean, what else are you going to do -- stay off the road?" Well, speaking as the owner of one of the cars that may wind up missing a fender, I think it is a big deal. There's a very obvious third option here, which is that people who can't parallel park learn how, and park in lots until they do so.
  14. I love Memento Mori, but Small Potatoes is nevertheless something of a runaway winner for me due to its rewatchability factor.
  15. Season Four: Small Potatoes (Followed by Memento Mori, then Paper Hearts, but my real third place episode would be Leonard Betts) Season Five: Bad Blood (By a landslide, as it's my favorite of the series, and then followed by Detour and Redux II)
  16. Richard Blais is going to be a guest judge in an episode or two, or is going to infect my screen with his presence on a regular basis this season?

Good night, Irene, I know it's only week two, but I am not having a good football season so far. Sure, the Patriots and Cowboys both lost, and I always enjoy seeing that, but what I really enjoy is seeing teams I like win. So far, not so much.
  18. What did she do on Reddit? I guess I'll finally have to watch that season one Hannibal Blu-Ray set I bought, then get season two, and tune in for season three. I bought it because of all the rave reviews, but I've never actually set down to watch it. I really ought to give it a try. Hell, I watched Crisis for her, and that sucked.
  19. As if it wasn't bad enough they pre-empt regular programming for the entire month of December (if not longer) each year to air treacly holiday dreck.
  20. There is no evidence there have ever been anything close to one million people behind any of the hate campaigns that group has launched.
  21. My mom makes fun of me for my use of an egg separator, and I take her point, but I love that thing.
  22. Kelly probably talked to the dog in that baby voice of hers and he ran away.
  23. I'm bummed about Never Again, but then I look at the list and realize there are only two I'd send out before it and even those are episodes I like just as much. S4: Home Paper Hearts Unruhe S5: The End (either I'm forgetting something really good from this or it speaks to the weakness of this season) Chinga (I predict this will finally be it, and this is right where I'd put it in the rankings ... only Kill Switch would be above it)
  24. Quoting myself to say, you guys, I just did this AGAIN. Now we know the answer to "Who the hell could do that twice in one lifetime (let alone twice in about ten years)?" is, apparently, me. Put on sugar water for the hummingbird feeder, went outside to review the sunlight/watering needs of some plants I bought in order to figure out their best placement, went in my game room (attached to my detached garage, and thus sitting at the other end of the backyard) to make a drink, turned on the Cold Case marathon, got up half an hour or so later to get something from the kitchen, walked in the house and thought not, "Oh no! I forgot the sugar water," but instead, "What is that smell?" and finally, as I approached the smoke-filled kitchen, realized what was happening. What an idiot. The smoke was fairly well confined to the kitchen (and the smoke detectors are at the other end of the house), but the whole damn house smells like burnt sugar. Good thing I have a lot of windows, as they'll all be open overnight. I'm one of those people who is both "book smart" and in possession of common sense, but from this thread one would think I shouldn't be able to live independently.
