  1. Awww, Barry-2 was adorable. I especially also liked his "Wait, he got frisky with you?" line to Iris. It was just the right amount of prissy/huffy outrage. I half expected him to challenge Barry-1 to fisticuffs, complete with the Marquess of Queensberry rules.
  2. S1 Abbie and Frank schooled Ichabod on Sally Hemings and asked Ichabod how he could admire a man who talked about liberty yet owned slaves. Also they revealed him to be a plagiarist ... he 'self attributed' one of Ichabod's quotes as his own. Ichabod was crushed. It was a neat set of scenes interspersed with them laying traps for Headless
  3. It isn't. it is a horrible, pitbull bastard version of a very cool Reggae Dancehall song called Murder She Wrote by Chaka Demus and Pliers
  4. I personally don't think the plan was to ever have Abbie & Crane separated for more than one episode. Goffman posed that idea last year and Fox shut that down real quick. That is why Abbie was out of Purgatory in the second season premiere. If Goofman had his way Abs would have been in Purgatory much longer. That is why we saw pre-season pics of and Ichabod stand-in in the pink dollhouse. Those scenes never came to pass. So no I don't think her quick trip back from Where-the-hell-ever was based on fan reaction. I think it is a way to give NB a bit of a showcase because I do think it is clear by now her fans are vocal. Also I think it is a way to hedge the bets re: an actual ichabbie romance because clearly these two need something to prod them into admitting their feelings out loud. I think he was looking at Joe. My interpretation of the scene (and obviously the way Tom is playing it) he was about to say something way more profound and Joe being there stopped him.
  5. I forgot to add in my previous post, that this episode was also a mirror - ha ha -- to last week's episode. A lot of what Abbie did this week we can see upon reflection -- again ha ha! -- that it was like Ichabod from last week. Sure her 'edge of sanity' stuff was rooted in the fact that she was stuck in some weird hellscape alone for ten months, but we can't doubt that Ichabod was also losing it last week even to communing with a mirror. His desperation to get Abbie back was 'mirrored' by hers to get back. And even though he is in the real world, it is probably just as alien to him without Abbie as the hellscape was to her. Also I think the metaphor of the tether was a good one. Abbie is Ichabod's tether to this world. He isn't in his natural place either. He could have easily lost his marbles but he had Abbie to hold on to. So with her gone, no matter how much of a relationship he has forged with Jenny and Joe, he really would have been lost.
  6. I needed to sleep on my feelings on this one but I have to say this was my favorite episode of the season so far. Last season my favorite episode was the finale, Tempus Fugit. No surprise then, that the ones that allow Abbie to be the out of her element and showing how she adapts and turns a disadvantage to an advantage seems to be the things that work hands down for me. Also added, these seem to be the ones where Abbie and Ichabod cling the most fiercely to each other. But Abbie was the MVP of this episode. I love how she figured out time, became a cartographer, an explorer, kept herself just this side of sanity and managed to have a fab twist out! Other observations: - Jenny v. Sophia. This is the place where I think Jenny kind of stands in for the audience. She views Sophia as an interloper and possible threat to their team dynamic. How dare this newcomer come here and new-come her way into our business, with her newcomer ideas! I do think on some level Sophia is being pushed a little too hard but I am not as angry about her as I was, say, about Katrina. Mainly because I actually like the Sophia character and the actress can act. One element of Jenny's unease around Sophia is I think she sees someone who is a lot like Abbie. She's smart and resourceful. As an audience member we get a little uneasy because of our lack of trust in this writing team based on last season and wonder if we are seeing a possible replacement for Abbie. But I think Jenny looks at Sophia and becomes uneasy because she sees a possible replacement for her(Jenny) in Abbie's regard. Let's face it, Abbie would have also suggested a more mundane and scientific approach if she thought it would work. She did did tell Crane that they didn't always need to go a witch to get shit done. Now that Abbie is back it will be interesting to see how Sophia fits into their group. - Pandora v. Abby - Their interactions remain the strongest thread this entire season. From the first meeting in Maeby's when we thought Pandy was actually flirting, Shannyn Sossamon and Nicole Beharie's on screen chemistry has been fantastic. Seriously if you pull out all their scenes together - Pandy taunting Abbie over Ichabod's body in the garage, Pandy menacing Abbie while Abbie was in her hospital bed, Pandy trying to negotiate with Abbie after she killed whatshisface in that FBI van -- you would see some seriously rocking character interactions. And yes, I love that Pandy seems so laser focused on Abbie! Ichabod barely registers for her except as a means to get at Abbie. I wonder if in the end it will be these two warrior women facing off? - Pandora v. Hidden One - What a fucked up relationship that is! He is a textbook abuser. I wonder if he will go a step too far and she turns on him? - Abbie & Ichabod - Ok are we in the midst of the longest foreplay ever? Gah! I love the hand-sex. They are in love. We all know this. I get it that Ichabod probably turned completely shy at the last minute. And it was a completely meta moment because yes of course Metzner is fucking with us. And it'll drag out more because Ichabod has to deal with that Zoe chick still. But this is totally foreplay. They are so happening. - Betsy Ross is sooooooo unecessary. Why people why?
  7. Fox made the big announcement in November that they will no longer use Live+Same Day ratings to determine their content: and: source: http://deadline.com/2015/11/fox-live-same-day-ratings-stop-1201631918/ Sleepy Hollow tends to do very well in their +3 & +7 ratings. In the past they've gone up as much as 70%, so it has got to be one of the seven they are talking about. And a .9 on a Friday is impressive. It was one of the better performing shows. And while I don't think Twitter necessarily will save a show that really is on the chopping block, Twitter has shown itself to be an important enough measure of interest in a show that Nielsen calibrates it for ratings now. And if Fox is looking at ratings as holistically as they claim, then they really can't discount Twitter as a factor.
  8. Per Tvline: If nothing else it proves it has a core of dedicated fans who will watch it wherever it goes. On the upside, since Fox is also using twitter for ratings it is worth noting that Sleepy Hollow trended for three hours straight, spending probably an hour at #1. i can't remember the last time it trended so prominently, maybe the S2 premiere?
  9. This is an interesting quote from an article from about two weeks ago: Altho why they have a picture of Orlando Jones & Len Wiseman from 2014 Comicon is a mystery. Also in this article talking about mid-season premiere Campbell definitively states that Busty will NOT be coming to the present. Thank Jeebus! https://www.yahoo.com/tv/39-sleepy-hollow-39-postmortem-showrunner-talks-1358833742512182.html
  10. Except for the big dance numbers and the ending, the show really felt very low energy. I was actually pretty bored and found myself waiting for the musical numbers. I will say the camera work was amazing. It was a feat that with all the camera switches you didn't mistakenly see any stray cameras or mics or anything in a shot. The technical planning had to be a monster and they pulled it off. And I loved the actress who played Blanche. She had such a few tiny parts but man she made the most of them and stole the scene every time. My eye was drawn to her every time she was on screen. Some times she never even had dialogue but her face!
  11. My husband saw Joy and is a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan and even he said she doesn't deserve the nom. He thought Joy was bad frankly. And I have to say I am so over the commentary around Leo DiCaprio. There is the feeling that he is due an Oscar by fiat somehow. Why does the narrative around him take on the feel of forgone conclusion that he is supposed to get one. That the fact that he hasn't is a travesty? I remember when Django Unchained came out and people were saying he was a shoo in for a nomination. In my opinion he did shit all in that movie. Samuel L. Jackson was more deserving of a nom than Leo Fucking DiCaprio. He played a much more layered character than Leo and he played him with such ooze and menace.
  12. In the end, I think this is why I don't think that particular scene 100% worked for me. It sounded editorial rather than organic for the story. In that moment, instead of simply watching MJ make a romantic realization that felt right for the character, I was immediately and overwhelmingly aware that I was watching a show on BET, written by a black woman, created by a black woman, starring a black woman, for a black woman audience. It was a message and it felt very message-y. On the one had I did like how much MJ owned her preference and chose to go all in with it. I don't necessarily agree with her (well I don't actually as I am in an IR marriage and have been for 20 years) but it was a strong POV for the character. Yet on the other hand, I did not like that she didn't even give it a chance. She self sabotaged almost immediately. I think the declaration of wanting black love would have felt stronger and had more punch if we'd seen her actually exploring her relationship with the white guy and got to actually visually see it not fulfilling her in ways that could be explained away because of racial/cultural differences that she feels can't be overcome. Of course all that gets (un)ironically juxtaposed with David, his white GF and his baby. All the stuff that MJ wants but can't seem to achieve because she's busy waiting.
  13. Seriously. That linked article is pretty damned petty imo. They obviously saw the segment on The Nightly Show, hell they linked to it. Do they not know what the 'Keeping it 100' is all about on The Nightly Show? Instead of judging it for what is was -- an answer to a question on a comedy news show in a segment where she played along knowing what the expectation was in that moment -- they made it sound like she was going around saying 'That's right Bitches!! Imma kill YOU and kill YOU and kill YOUR ASS TOO!!!!' They chose to call it 'throwing shade' and seeing it as 'a terse declaration'. Did they not notice she was laughing a little abashed while she said it? See, this to me is how a media outlet does their own shading (and not in the cool Paris is Burning way which they often misuse) but in the not-so-cool 'let me interpret this using my bias' way. Also I find it interesting that their suggestions of which of supposed actors she's killed off was because she didn't like them were men. Some of their picks (Dan Bucatinsky, Tom Verica) make no sense because she's had a long relationship with both them behind the camera on multiple shows. I would be tickled if it was an actually a woman since, again, the original question did not specify gender. Could have been just as easily that Mercy West Resident that got shot point blank in the head or that annoying Rebecca chick from How To Get Away With Murder. Yeah, i know, probably not. I am inclined to believe it was TR Knight. But that could just be my own bias since I couldn't stand George and found Knight almost as annoying as Heigl off screen.
  14. Somewhat related, I have always been rather meh on Mindy/Danny and neutral on the Mindy show in general. But I have been really enjoying the Hulu season of it. I like the somewhat darker place they've taken the M/D relationship. I agree the clues have always been there that Danny isn't ideal hero material. It almost feels like the show was showing Danny as seen through Mindy's eyes and she was willing to overlook a lot of Danny's flaws because he was her ideal. But now she's seeing him a little more clearly and consequently so are we. Stuff she can no longer ignore. I am really applauding the show for being somewhat blatant in cracking open the flaws a little wider in a popular and well liked character.
  15. I was actually enjoying this episode.... until i wasn't. Everything felt written for plot expediency and when you look at it more closely things people did and said felt like it was sizzle and no steak. The Kara plot: I love her, but man she handled everything about the Marisol situation 100% wrong. The whole 'Ooh girl I love those shoes!' just made me cringe. And then the 'Fiery Latina' thing made me cringe even more. Come on, Kara did not just fall off a turnip truck! To get to the level she is she had to have been more savvy in the arena of office politics than what they are showing now. Though, I must admit, Marisol made a baller move. Now that she is the anchor, they can't remove her unless they can definitely prove the accusation is wrong, because to do so would seem like retaliation which is big no-no when it comes to harassment complaints. The Niecy plot: Felt mishandled. I wish there had been some more nuance in that scene. As it was, Niecy's actions felt unnecessarily combative. By not providing license & registration when asked she was in the wrong from the jump. The scene would have/could have felt stronger if she had provided the documents first and then let the scene escalate from there. Sure the officer was way more in the wrong than she was by taseing a woman who was in no way threatening him physically, but as the scene played out it felt very 'after school special' complete with raining anvils. And of course Mary Jane's interns see it immediately and want to use it. The CeCe plot: I am gonna miss Cece and her Sweet Dick Willie outfits. But man I was glad she got what was coming to her. Had to laugh when the police tipped her hat for her. LOL. Like MJ said, you just take it too far. The White guy plot: This also needed more nuance. I honestly loved MJ's reasoning for why she didn't want to be down with the swirl. She likes black guys. She wants black love. Boom! That is all that was necessary. I also loved his response "I can't give you that." And fin, great ending. What felt unnecessary was the run up to that. MJ's insecurity and her 'But I don't wanna have to talk to you about black stuff!' I get that. I was very often the only black person in schools, classrooms, workplaces and I could fill a football field with the fucks I did not give with constantly educating non-black folks on 'black stuff' But if there was ever a time to actually talk about 'your truth' it is with the person who is lying up in your bed and with whom you are in an intimate relationship. Again like the Niecy plot, it felt set up to be speechy. And the addition of the segment from 'The Real' in there made it feel like an 'issue of the week' rather than an organic development for the character.
  16. Yeah, Paget Brewster is definitely age appropriate for Stamos, but the show has put her in a romantic nostalgia zone. All the women that they have Jimmy date on the show have all been young, vapid starlet types. Since he has discovered he has a grown son, one of his played for laugh worries is that one of his hook-ups might actually turn out to be a long lost daughter. One episode cold open was with him about to have sexy times with one of his very young dates he started asking her questions about how well she knew her father. So it is nice to actually have them give him a present love interest who is the total opposite of what they've shown him interested in til now. Extra points go to color-blind casting. Like BoogieBurns said the show already has two black regular female characters. And they are wildly different from each other and who have shared scenes that pass the Bechdel test. i can't wait to see Annalise's reaction to Jimmy's new love interest.
  17. So far the only new shows this year that I am still with are: Killjoys Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Chicago Med Grandfathered Looking forward to seeing The Catch Expanse (haven't tried it yet) The Family The Real O'neals (is this still happening? haven't heard) Lucifer
  18. When our kids were little we'd make a point to watch what they were watching and I swear, Thomas The Tank Engine (narrated by Ringo Starr) was absolutely snooze inducing. As was Little Bill. The snoozy jazz score and the soft voices. Man, I don't think I ever finished as episode.
  19. The Pfeffermans are such a mess. I love it. For the first time I felt a little sorry for Tammy. I disliked her so heartily in S1. She just felt so abrasive. Her family by contrast -- even though we only saw a teensy bit of them -- seemed really nice. That said, i couldn't hate on Sarah. After Maura, I liked her storyline the best last year. And I wonder if that will continue this season? Amy Landecker did a great job in this episode. I absolutely felt her utter regret at what she had just done. Still not a fan of Ali. Between Josh and Raquel who will win? Will her sane personality ground him and they will come out with whole and healthy relationship? Or will he somehow neurotic them into failure? I somehow feel that that relationship is going to implode. Also, he needs therapy. I love how he wants to include Colton in his life, but he seems steadfastly oblivious to the fact that he was essentially molested. I wonder if they plan to deal with that this season? Really enjoyed this first episode. Very fascinated by the dip into the past.
  20. I LOVED Moonlighting when it came out. I watched it religiously the first season oddly because it felt like the fun, sassy cousin to the more staidly elegant Remington Steele (Which I also loved). But yes, the whole 'Moonlighting Curse' is media punditry bull. It is a phrase that somebody coined and somebody else hopped onto and suddenly it became a thing that in reality has no basis in fact. The showrunners admitted that the behind the scenes chaos translated on-screen. I remember reading somewhere that soon after that episode aired, they had both lost interest in the show, Cybill was pregnant, Bruce was filming Die Hard and they barely shared any scenes together. I don't remember the last season that much because even before Dave and Maddie did the deed, I had lost interest in the show. A more mundane explanation, sure, but makes more sense than crackling chemistry suddenly going away just because they have sex. I do think that a lot of times when a romance between leads mucks the show up, it tends to be on shows that are not conceived or written to be romance-driven in nature. You never hear about chemistry evaporating once a couple finally get together in the more soapy/romance driven shows. Supercouples become supercouples for a reason. For a show that is supposed to be an action/adventure, police/law/medical drama or a genre sci-fi show where the plots tend to lend themselves to action or the emphasis is placed on what the characters are doing rather than the things they are feeling, then writing in romance angst as an overt plot point can be jarring. And if not done skillfully it can be infuriating to both the fans who don't want a romance and the fans that do.
  21. I don' think it is weird there are no spoilers out yet about the next episode. None of the TGIT shows have released any spoiler information for their Spring half-season. I also find it very understandable they are hyped personally about Denzel Washington. If you think about it, this is the only opportunity any of them would probably get to work with him in a professional capacity. That is some real mega-star power directing them in their weekly episodic tv show. The episode itself may very well be just another regular GA episode but that doesn't negate that it might feel more special to them because of who they get to work with on it. I mean imagine if someone like Spielberg decided to direct an episode? This feels more like professional giddiness than anything else and I confess I'd feel that way too if I were them.
  22. I like Wanda Sykes as a stand up and as just herself. She is great on talk shows and has great one liners. But she makes a terrible character actress because it is all 'her' that you see regardless of who the character is.
  23. I posted my theory on TV line. If it it Grey's Anatomy then I don't think it will necessarily be about Izzie's & Alex's eggs. Since they mention 'Ghost' in the BI, I am thinking it will have something to do with Denny. After all Izzy never really got punished for cutting Denny's LVAD wire. What if the other patient she cheated out of that heart has some significance to the current storyline? Owen's sister maybe? She died obviously. And Riggs is a heart surgeon. Also since the BI seems to indicate that what is coming affects a bunch of people, the resonance of what Izzie did could have ramifications over everyone: The hospital facing liability, her 'presence' causing some residual issues with Alex/Jo.
  24. I legit had no idea Meghan Markle was biracial til they cast Wendell Pierce as her father. I later found an article on her with this quote: The whole article is a real succint breakdown of how she navigates issues and questions of identity and how being biracial affected her as she was growing up and now as an actor in Hollywood. Her parents sound very smart and lovely. And she very much acknowledges that in some ways it is advantageous being racially ambiguous when it comes to casting, however in other ways it is a frustration for her as well. She also praised Suits for casting Wendell Pierce as her father, acknowledging that they could have cast differently since up to that point there had been nothing really signalling Rachel's racial identity as anything other than white. Personally I get the impression that the Suits folks use their actors' personal lives to inform their fictional characters given that they have cast Gabrial Macht's wife and Patrick J Adams' fiancee on the show.
  25. I think it is interesting to bring up race-bend casting in talking about both Hamilton and the The Wiz because I think Hamilton is Lin-Manuel Miranda's Wiz. Just like The Wiz is a re-imagined Wizard of Oz for a specifically all black cast, Miranda's Hamilton is a re-imagined life of Alexander Hamilton for a non-white Hip Hop cast. He has said when he read Hamilton's biography he immediately felt that Hamilton's life was analogous to that of hip hop star. He began writing what at the time was a concept hip hop album which was circa 2008-2009. So when the show came about his intent was a predominantly black cast. This isn't simply color blind casting in his case but actual intent. I've linked to his performance at the White House from 2009 where he talks about this below. re: Ciara Renee, I have to admit I was so happy to see a WOC of color being cast as a superhero in the DC franchise stuff on the CW. So like some of the people on Twitter I was very taken aback with how easily she seemed to shed that piece of her identity. I have no issues with a person identifying how they see fit, but in her case it feels so incredibly disingenuous because like I said, I'd just read an article where she was talking up repping for Latinas -- btw she still doesnt mention being Latina in that listing -- so I am scratching my head about that one. I get that multiracial people get extremely tired to being asked 'what are you' It can be so irksome and does make one want to say something flippant and sarcastic to that next person just to show your frustration. But she is now a public persona and you can't have the same reactions (especially on a public space like twitter) that you would have if you were still a private citizen. She had the option of simply ignoring the tweet. If she were smarter about social media and the platform she was on she could have either done that or just answered with her melange of ethnicities -- after all twitter allows 140 characters and 'white' is only five of them. People would have shrugged and gone about their business. Nobody raises an eyebrow about inclusion. But the exclusion of all else in that one tweet reeks of shame and denial and wanting only to claim privilege. It'll be interesting to see what sort of fandom following she continues to enjoy with POC after that. Anway here is L-MM:
