I watched it a few nights ago and had sort of the same experience. I was kind of tired so the middle part was kind of hard to follow. But the last bit, basically when she realized that Waymond's secret weapon was kindness was amazing. Especially the whole part with Evelyn and her daughter outside the laundromat when she was trying to leave. The speech about how she always wants to be with her daughter no matter what she does was soo good both the writing itself and all three actors in that scene.

I watched this tonight with my wife and even though I wasn't sure what to expect after watching the trailer I thought it was quite good. One thing I thought was interesting was how what exactly was going on with the rape scene was kind of hard to follow (partially because all of those prep school guys that assaulted her looked kind of similar). But in the end I think that worked since Ani was also very disoriented so it kind of mirrored what she was feeling. What is extra fucked up about linking the rape and the shooting is that Ani saved the life of her rapist by killing someone who was her friend. And even with that she still gets treated like garbage.

I watched The Sopranos back when it was originally on, then I rewatched the series about a year ago. And I realized that on the first rewatch I never noticed how crappy Tony's house was considering the size. I mean the decorating is terrible (all that wallpaper and the stupid painting covered by the headboard of the bed) and the design seems really bad too. The kitchen is tiny, the basement is small and unfinished, and the master bedroom is really small. Plus maybe it is just me, but having the home theatre in a separate building (the pool house) in a region where you get snow seems like a dumb idea. Since you have to go outside in winter if you want to watch movie.

Even in that case though if I was a French citizen I feel like I would be more pissed off with the government officials who decided it was a good idea to rent out the Mona Lisa. And with Miles's money he could make a trial last for years and probably never face any kind of punishment. But even without any kind of legal punishment his reputation (and probably his business) is completely ruined.

Would it? The guy is a billionaire. If either of those cases actually went to trial his legal team would make the OJ dream team look like a bunch of public defenders (not to mention the trial would be even more of a circus). And with the Duke murder specifically I think it would be very hard to prove it wasn't an accident, especially with all the other people, including the victim, drinking. Which is why I thought the Mona Lisa thing at the end was great, destroy him in the court of public opinion and you don't need to worry about things like reasonable doubt.

The only one of those I bought was Liz Lemon on 30 Rock. Because with her crazy busy job and life I could totally believe she might eat a a bag of off brand cheese puffs for lunch one day and then not have time to eat anything until the next afternoon.

Is the fax machine thing one of those guys or someone else? Because when I saw that my first thought was remembering Trump saying he never sends anything important by email and only uses registered mail or couriers to send documents.

The 11 second limit made the piano task way better. Since it made it impossible for one person to do it on their own. I am ok with the winners but would have preferred the other two teams. Partially because I find big Brother annoying and partly because I found Derek himself annoying. Also not sure if they would ever do these again, but Emily and Molly seem like they would be a lock for an Unfinished Business season. Also I am definitely looking forward to them getting back to actual races around the world.

I think the fact that the main character is a well known celebrity because he is the world's greatest detective is an instant giveaway that this movie isn't to be taken seriously. Unless there is a real person out there who is the world's greatest detective and I have never heard of them.

That was sort of my take away. Miles was stupid but he was probably a world class bullshitter who probably started out with a bunch of money and family connections. I know people saw a lot of connections to Musk but I also saw a lot of connections to a certain real estate developer/former reality show host. Monae and Craig were great but I really liked how Kate Hudson wasn't afraid to play a washed up former model who was still acting/dressing like she was a super model. Considering that while Hudson is still an actor she is no where near the level she was 20 years ago. The scene where she is sitting by the pool and Whiskey shows up was really funny.

Christina Applegate and Katey Sagal in a scene together was awesome. Too bad they couldn't have done a few more.

So then what are your thoughts on Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Because for me it is still the best MCU movie. But if we are just sticking with Lee/Kirby era continuity, Bucky is dead. Although like Cap in the ice that was already a change from WWII era stories where Bucky didn't actually die. Oh man. Back in the 90's I read a bunch of those essential Marvel collected editions where early stories were printed black and white on like phone book quality paper and they were usually $12-15. It was early in the days of online shopping and a lot of places like Barnes and Noble and Amazon would give you $10 off your first purchase. And being a university student at the time I had a lot of email addresses and was a new customer a lot of times. And I think I lost count of how many times I read the phrase "Bamboo Curtain" when reading Iron Man stories, because his enemies were communists in Asia. I also weirdly lost count of the number of times an asbestos rope was used to defeat The Human Torch. But that is also another weird way those stories are super dated.

Which ones though? I read comics for years and characters and stories are hardly consistent. I mean if you go back and read the Captain America stories from WWII they don't end when Steve Rogers falls in the ice not to be mentioned for almost 20 years. That was a change to his back story that Lee and Kirby introduced in the 60's. So if a Captain America movie wanted to be faithful to Cap's story should they include the frozen in ice thing or not?

Watched it last night and thought it was really funny. The idea that Eat It was an original song and then Beat It was the parody was hilarious. I thought the drug lord stuff was a bit too strange bit making Madonna a drug lord was a good payoff. As was his going home and being inspired to record Amish Paradise. Daniel Radcliffe was really good. And the fact that he was totally shredded every time he too his shirt off made me laugh a lot.

I watched Blood and Sauce tonight. It's a good episode, especially for such a late season episode. I especially like that it is basically a sequel toy favourite episode A Beer can Named Desire. The weird thing though is how much Hank loves Bill's BBQ, saying the ribs are the best thing he ever tasted. But those ribs are basically the opposite of "taste the meat not the heat".

The Business: News, Rumours, Analysis, and More

Plus you file a lawsuit, what would your damages be? At best maybe the cost of your movie ticket. -
In Raiders, after the Nazi's capture the ship leaving Egypt with Indy and the Ark. They load the Ark onto a submarine and take Marian. Indy grabs onto the sub periscope. I read an article somewhere where someone figured the distance they traveled and the top speed of a German U-boat and how the voyage would have taken days. And yet when they dock Indy is completely fine, even without any food or water all that time.

How much of a badass do you have to be where you make a speech from beyond the grave at your own funeral and it ignites an uprising. The idea of regular folks just getting to the point where they have had enough and fight back is super interesting. It was also hilarious that a guy headbutted a Storm Trooper and it actually worked. So not only can they not shoot but their helmets are also pointless? The great thing about Mom Mothma burning her husband is it probably would do zero damage. Since his reputation already seems to be useless rich socialite, so it's not like also being a problem gambler is going to ruin that reputation. Maybe it's the kind of thing where you have to lock people up anyway, since at least before that super hardline law was passed you couldn't kill them. So if you are going to lock them up you might as well put them to work.

Unless something weird happens in the next few weeks and the number increases my year of 3 concerts came to an end a few weeks ago. Started in the summer when I took my kids to their first real concern, Weird Al and his Return of the Unfortunate Ill Advised Vanity tour. Even though it was all his original songs it was so much fun. Especially since my kids love the song Albuquerque, and he played it at the end. I really hope he does another tour soon since I would love to take them to see a tour where he plays all his parody songs. Next was Peal Jam in September. It was my 6th time seeing them and they still put on a hell of a show. It was a show that I was supposed to see in March 2020 but it kept getting pushed back because of the pandemic. Lastly a few weeks ago I saw Canadian rock band Arkells. It was in a small hockey arena and the only used about half of it so it was really cool. Plus even though it was a small venue the band still had a ton of energy. That one too was originally supposed to be earlier in the year but got postponed due to the pandemic. It was almost a year of 4 concerts as I kind of wanted to go see Metric in the summer but our summer was super busy and it was a bit on the expensive side so I passed. Looking back I kind of wish I went, although they are a Canadian band so hopefully they hit Ottawa again on their next tour.

The Santa Clauses - General Discussion
Kel Varnsen replied to BetterButter's topic in The Santa Clauses
I don't know I kind of like the episode format. 30 minutes of Tim Allen once a week is pretty much my limit I think. The latest episode had some pretty good one liners, especially between Scott and Bernard. Plus I liked that Scott had crazy good knowledge of all the previous Santas and the different traditions. Although Jerry from Parks and Recreation was the previous Santa? No wonder he fell off the roof. Also my completely unspoiled speculation is that that the series will end with Scott and his family back at the north pole. But instead of him just being Santa and doing Christmas night all by himself it is going to become a job for his whole family. I mean the title of the show is The Santa Clauses. That way they can Christmas together and the kids can use their powers. Just not sure how that would work with the Carol wanting to be her own person plot. -
I don't know I see it as more complicated than just he should obviously win. The fact that the jet wasn't in the catalog was a big part of that. Especially since they had to take a guess and write in their own shipping and handling charge. Pepsi should have just come back and said the shipping and handling for the jet was $500 million or something. Plus while I am no lawyer, I remember from the one law for engineers class they made me take in university that for a contract offer to be valid it has to be serious. Which is why if you are really hungry and say I would give a million dollars for a steak right now, someone can't just give you a steak and sue you for a million dollars.
-
No sympathy from me but I appreciate that they showed how complicated the situation was. IMDB says that Bill first started working as an FBI informant when he was 17. And at the end the FBI basically said that if you don't do what we say we will not only charge you (and hunt you down if you run), but leak to the Panthers that you are a snitch, and they will probably torture and murder you too. So I can see why he might not feel like there are a lot of options. One thing I didn't understand though was why the Panthers started shooting at the cops before the cops torched their office. It seemed like the cops at that moment were just sitting on their block harassing the neighborhood, not necessarily threatening to come in.

I haven't seen it since it was in theatres but I remember not thinking it was that bad either. I remember reading a review when it came out about how a lot of the hatred comes from just it's place in the order of the movies. Like sure there is a lot of dumb crap in it, but there is a lot of dumb crap in the other ones too, but they have the advantage of not being the 4th movie. I mean sure the fridge thing is stupid, but is it really any dumber than using an inflatable raft in place of a parachute, or surviving hanging onto the periscope of a sub as it goes across the Mediterranean sea for what must have been at least days?

So if each one of Vecna's kills led to a gate, does that mean the dead newspaper kid caused there to be a gate in the middle of the road?

S04.E07: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab
Kel Varnsen replied to paulvdb's topic in Stranger Things
I just watched this episode yesterday. The squad car was the last car in the driveway so it having a flat tire blocked everyone else in. Sure the could have backed the car up a little and drove tbe other cars around on the lawn. But they didn't know where the kids were going, so the kids just needed enough time to get out of sight.
