Ugh stared watching season 2 and I am about 3 episodes in. And so far it seems like they have amped up everything that would annoy me about a show like this. The episodes all seem longer so there seems like a lot more filler. More celebrity talking heads about how much they love Goldin and Ken. More employee back stuff, I do not give a shit about that dumbass promising a played video and then not getting it and the lecture from his boss, since it's obviously fake. And worst of all are the filler scenes with Ken's annoying daughter. They did this last season too but I wish they did pop-ups of what the items actually sold for, since the estimates are useless. Although I did notice there was no follow up on the Godfather house since maybe someone realized it is a terrible idea.

Price and Lehane were both writers on The Wire. So it's cool that they are working together again. At first I though that Howard was being kind of weird for going hard with the lawsuit when he knows the kind of evidence the cops had (and what else is going on). It would be hard to prove it was a bad arrest it seems. But then he brought up Terry's death and he was right. The people in charge of protecting him on the way to courthouse did a shitty job and that led to him being killed. When I saw the episode title I honestly wondered if HBO was going to spend what would have to be a crazy amount of money for music rights, in order to get the Nirvana version of that song.

I am curious why we haven't seen 2 Jacks yet. There were clearly 2 Jason Batemans running around at the same time. Then the daughter said the guy's face turned blurry. Did he become a second Jack? Or is he still blurry somewhere?

Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality
Kel Varnsen replied to Kromm's topic in Everything Else TV
That's where I have always had the issue. Sure having a cop who uses brutality to get information probably isn't unrealistic. And one who does that and doesn't face many consequences probably isn't either. But the fact that brutality always works and never sends the cops on a wild goose chase is super annoying. -
I watched the whole season over the last week and it was neat. I liked that it focused mostly focused on the stuff and there are no dumb, poorly acted skits, where someone has to clean out the stock room or go get lunch. I was surprised some of those modern super rare cards had such a high value. I mean sure that triple logo man card was one of a kind. But there isn't anything stopping the card company from making a LeBron triple all star logo man card or something else that would dilute the value of your card. And when you are dropping millions that seems like a huge risk. The Godfather house plan seems weird too. I feel like making it a replica Godfather house would shrink the market of people who would want to buy it vs just having a giant house in New York City. I would be surprised if hardcore Godfather fans would pay enough of a premium to make up for all the possible buyers you would lose. Also a couple of other small things. That guy in Puerto Rico with the crazy basketball jersey collection was just a very rich hoarder. And I can't believe that the dude with that huge collection of baseball cards and other paper items was keeping them in his uninsulated attic.

Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality

That was one of the reasons why I stopped watching Hawaii 5-0 (and Chicago PD) too. That and the fact that they could solve major crimes or take down like a huge organizer crime ring in like a day. I mean I'm not asking a CBS cop show to be The Wire, but at least show them having to change clothes at least once in the time it takes to bring down a human trafficking ring. But the police brutality thing was annoying too. I mean if you want to show a cop doing that I am ok with it if it works story wise. But the fact that it seems to work every time was so frustrating. Like they always pick up the right guy and after they beat him up he always tells them where the stash house is or where his partner is hiding. No one ever gives the wrong information, either because they don't know the truth and making up anything will make the beating stop, or because they are the right person but giving the cops made up information buys you time and wastes there time. -

That is one of the things that eventually turned me off of CSI (the original Vegas one). It seemed like every year the season long villian was some kind of genius super villain serial killer. But it seems like if there was that type of serial killer operating in Vegas every year it would make international news and there would be no tourists. -

I think the problem there is that Gotham is usually presented as a super corrupt city too. And even more than just in general, I am not sure I would trust officials in Gotham to be able to execute people. The Canadian produced police procedural Flashpoint was pretty good at balancing criminals who were dumb or assholes with ones who had a sympathetic backstory. I think that show was on CBS for awhile too. -
My Unpopular Opinion (based on how quickly that show was cancelled) was that the NBC version of Prime Suspect starring Maria Bello was really good.

Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality

Those public meetings probably work in real life, because I assume that real spies are pretty average looking people that you probably couldn't pick up out of a line up. But TV/movie spies are of course ridiculously gorgeous. I watched The Americans last year and it was at least a couple of seasons in before I wasn't constantly distracted by how hot Keri Russell is. So it's hard not to think that anytime anyone who had a run in with her had to talk to the FBI, all of them would say that the person who scammed me or stole my info was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. So if people saw her in the park they would remember. The interesting thing about Zodiac is it has been over 50 years since his last confirmed murder. And yet people are still talking about his stupid letters and ciphers. Which to me shows how uncommon that kind of thing is. But if you went by TV rules people probably wouldn't talk about Zodiac (or Jack the Ripper) that much because every serial killer would be doing letters and clues and stupid Riddler stuff like that. -
Except Bobby is a fire fighter who lives with a cop. Assuming the arsonist is Amir it will be hard for me to accept that he is some kind of master criminal who figured out how to break into the house without Athena realizing and disable any smoke detectors. Especially since it's not like he has been plotting this for years he met Bobby like a week ago. And it would also assume they they don't have a security system or smoke detectors that are monitored.

Not sure, but I did think it was funny that Richard Kind's speech about how was never a big star but is famous enough where he is always working kind of describes Busy Philipps's career. Like if you look at her IMDB she has been working steadily since 1999 but most of her credits are for 1 or 2 episodes. Even shows where she had a more permanent role (F&G, Dawsons Creek, Cougar Town) she probably was somewhere around number 5 on the call sheet.

I feel like sticking to just two movies a year will be a big start. Although I do feel like there were several things that hurt Marvel that were out of their control. Like the pandemic means they released 4 movies in 2021 and then 3 in 2022 and 2023. If those movies had been spread out over 4 years the bad ones wouldn't be as noticable. There was also Chadwick Bosemen dying (Wakanda Forever would have been way better with him) and the whole James Gunn firing thing that pushed back GotG3. Going forward though I think there will need to be some cuts. No one wants to wait 7 years for an Eternals or a Thor or a Dr Strange sequel. A kid who saw one of those movies as a 12 year old would have graduated high school by the time they follow up. So either you cut some of those sequels or cut some other movies in development.

Wow with all those possible cameos I really hope we see:
-
It's still possible they are. I mean Thanos showed up in The Avengers in the mid credits scene, but the Avengers didn't actually fight him until 6 years later. It looks weird because it isn't Josh Brolin so maybe they are trying to avoid that from the start.
-
Probably for the best. Although looking at the movies that marvel has already lined up with official release dates and such it makes me wonder what sequels won't make the cut. Since if you are only releasing 2-3 movies a year there isn't much room for new movies and their sequels and sequels to shows and movies we have already seen. So I am thinking that means no Captain Marvel 3 and probably no Eternals 2. Maybe no Black Panther 2 and no Thor 4. So it will be interesting to see which plots get picked up in other movies and which ones get completely dropped like they were The Inhumans.

I always love wacky humour and Gloria's female Popeye type was really funny.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Kel Varnsen replied to BetterButter's topic in Movies
That's good that it is happening, although looking at the Marvel schedule I can't see it happening before 2027. Which is crazy since the first one came out in 2021. Looking back on the earlier phases there were 3 Iron Man movies in the space of 5 years. But we are only getting 2 Shang Chi movies over maybe 6 or 7 years. -
I like the Black Tones too. Plus their lead singer, Eva Walker, is a DJ at Seattle radio station KEXP, and she is an amazing DJ.

Most of my way through season 2 and am really enjoying it. One thing I am really curious is Summer's accent though. That is not how Busy Phillips talks in anything else I have seen (Freaks and Geeks, ER or Cougar Town (which used to be my favourite show)). So is it supposed to be some sort of regional accent or is she making fun of a specific person?

Late Night With Seth Meyers - General Discussion

The latest Corrections and the part about how Mike Scollins ruined the whole Mac Tonight bit was really funny. Especially since my daughter follows Scollins on Instagram (since she only really watches Surprise Inspection) and she showed me the post when it came out and asked me what it was all about. -
I think that argument kind of falls apart since if every woman in Hollywood dressed and looked super modest I don't think Harvey Weinstein would just decide to stop being a sexual abuser.

I finally watched this show after it being on my Netflix list since it came out. It was weird. There were a bunch of scenes that made me laugh which I liked. Shep and the boy band getting back together at the wedding was really funny. But Katherine being such a terrible person didn't really work. I mean I like shows about bad people, Archer is one of my all time favourite shows. But they never bothered to explain why so many people would just tolerate her terrible behavior. Like even Millie's mom became a closer friend. And they could have done a better job explaining how Katherine lives such a great life. It could have been just one line about how instead of child support payments she took like a one time payment from Shep at the height of his boy band career of like 3 million or something. He expected that he would be making money forever and thought it was a deal, but she knew his career was almost over.

Milestone Moments: All The Celebrity Vitals
Kel Varnsen replied to OtterMommy's topic in Everything Else TV
I follow Letterman on YouTube and they do that a lot. The only problem is he will post a random funny clip of someone who hasn't died and I have to search to make sure it isn't an in memoriam thing.
