  1. This was exactly what happened to me. I said 48 years instead of 52. I knew 1932 right away and then counted up to 1980 instead of 1984, with my mind confusing the two boycotted Olympics. I was very annoyed with myself for messing that one up. 😞
  2. I was fascinated by the train that rode on rails from Calabria, right on to the ferry to Sicily, and then back onto the rails to travel the island. I've been on several ferries where we drove our car right onto and off the boat; I've taken the AutoTrain to Florida, but there your car is treated as cargo. It's loaded separately and you're not in it! You take your seat on the train, or in our case we had a family cabin. But, I'd never before seen anything like the transfer Stanley's train made. That was definitely cool! I love train travel and I so wish that we had a much better passenger rail system in the U.S. I had to look it up. https://blog.eurail.com/sicily-train-ferry/
  3. I'll definitely give this one a watch. ‘Wonder Years’ Reboot Pilot at ABC Casts Dulé Hill, Laura Kariuki
  4. Back to back new episodes tonight, with this one labeled as FINALE.
  5. Hey Malik, how about talking to your girlfriend, whose Mom more or less walked away from her. She might just have some good input. And whoa, I know Toby's a huge Star Wars fan, but was that actually a Grogu sighting on NBC!?! What kind of fee did Disney get for that?!?
  6. This, from the majority of Hollywood publicists, definitely has some teeth to it. Your move, HFPA. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-03-15/hollywood-publicists-warn-golden-globes-group-to-change-or-lose-access-to-star-clients?_amp=true&__twitter_impression=true
  7. Thanks for sharing the official rules here. Interesting. I'm sure others here know a lot of Oscar trivia, so it may not be necessary for me to mention this, but it really did happen one year and was the reason for a rule change! Barry Fitzgerald is the only actor to have received Leading and Supporting Actor nominations for the same performance in 1943's Going My Way. Voting rules were altered shortly after this occurred to prevent it from happening again. He won the Supporting Actor Oscar, with his co-star, Bing Crosby taking home the Oscar for Best Actor. Personal opinions: I am absolutely delighted that Lakeith Stanfield was nominated. I wasn't expecting that. He didn't seem to be in anyone's top five predictions and was not even mentioned as a dark horse. Great choice. Before this, I had Daniel Kaluuya as a lock for Supporting Actor. I wonder if this opens a path for a surprise win by Cohen, Odom or Raci. I only wish Dominique Fishback could have snagged a Supporting Actress nomination. I'm disappointed that Aaron Sorkin didn't get a Best Director nomination, especially after scoring one from the DGA. I'm very pleased that "Hear My Voice" did grab a nomination for Best Original Song. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it and thought it had Oscar winner all over it, but then it missed out on some of the other awards' nominations and I began to think its time had passed. Glad it got a nod. I don't think anyone should be sleeping on Andra Day in the Lead Actress category. JMO I see that neither of the stage to screen adaptations got a Best Picture nod. I'm not all that surprised that Ma Rainey's Black Bottom wasn't nominated. That film was all about the actors, but I thought One Night in Miami did deserve a tip of the cap from Oscar. The acting was superb and its screenplay was recognized. I thought Regina King did a great job of making a stage play much more cinematic.
  8. While I'm pleased by the Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin, I'm annoyed about the snub for him in the Best Director category. 😠 On the other hand, I'm delighted by the Best Original Song nomination for "Hear My Voice." It's a great song yet it has missed a couple of other nods. I was afraid it wouldn't get Oscar recognition.
  9. After his win for The Social Network, he was also nominated for Moneyball and for Molly's Game, but went home without his other bookend. 😥 How he didn't receive a nomination for Steve Jobs is beyond me. I walked out of the theater and said to my friend, "They should just start engraving Aaron Sorkin's Oscar right now." So much for that prediction. 🙄 Most of the predictions I've been seeing online have him as the front-runner for the Original Screenplay Oscar for The Trial of the Chicago 7. I hope that holds, especially since he was snubbed for the Best Director nomination. 😠
  10. I happen to be a lifelong Yankees' fan and had to put up with A-Rod's continual drama for twelve seasons. In baseball when there's a player on your favorite team that you dislike, you root for the laundry, not for the person inside of it, but because I do like Jennifer Lopez, I had hoped that he had learned from his multitude of mistakes. They seemed like a perfect match; each of them being high maintenance diva types. They seemed to complement each other very well. I must say that having him cheat on one of the world's most famous, most beautiful and most talented women with a D-list reality TV cast member was not on my bingo card. Then again, cheaters gonna cheat. I'd suspect that Alex has already cast Madison aside, but no matter; she'll now be even more insufferable next season because of this brush with someone of A-Rod's level of fame. If there is a next season. I'm almost hoping there isn't.
  11. And, it's somewhat hidden at the collar, but "Agnes" does still have Agatha's mother's brooch.
  12. But NOT for the screenplay! I was screaming at my TV screen. 😠
  13. As a music geek, I immediately picked up on Ralph Bohner playing the first few notes of 311's song Amber, on his guitar. Lyric from that song: "Amber is the color of your energy."
  14. The most appealing meal in this episode was the family meal at the designers' home. That food looked delicious. So, anyone know where we can buy Bitto Cheese in the U.S.? I sure would like to try some of that! Only two episodes left for this season. 😢
  15. They really did, which is why I found the Andra Day win all the more shocking. While most were expecting an easy win for Frances McDormand, I had a strong feeling that the HFPA would give the award to Brit, Carey Mulligan. Andra Day really came out of left field! I had previously made note of the fact that The United States vs. Billie Holiday was dropping on Hulu this past Friday, February 26th. And then I promptly forgot about it. 😒 I'm definitely going to watch the movie this week. Perhaps overall, the GGs won't make that much of a difference, but as of right now. it would seem that the Best Actress category is not the slam-dunk that many believed. That had me laughing out loud because it's so true. Normal People was excellent, especially the two lead actors. While I might have given the Limited Series award to The Queen's Gambit, which I also loved, IMO Daisy Edgar-Jones gave an even better overall performance than Anya Taylor-Joy. I was rooting for DE-J to win. Also, it's kind of odd that Paul Mescal received an Emmy nomination with none for Daisy, yet she got the GG nod, with Mescal being shut out. Go figure. I honestly don't understand how anyone could nominate one but not the other. They were both incredibly good. I feel the same way. I want to see Promising Young Woman too, but I lay out enough $$$ for streaming services (I have access to Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Peacock.) I'm certainly not paying even more on top of that to see any movie. For example, I would really like to see Minari and First Cow but A24 doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get their films on streaming outlets. Although, I have to admit, If Disney+ added Black Widow to its Marvel playlist, I'd probably pay $50 to see it at this point. 😅 Yes. The Emmys did a much better overall job with their virtual awards show. There were a few bad moments, but they handled it surprisingly well. Last night's Golden Globes were...not good. Yes it was! I laughed out loud at that. 😄
  16. OK, this Bologna episode is by far, my favorite to date; and I doubt it will be topped for me. The Parmigiana, the mortadella, the prosciutto di Parma, the Bolognese sauce, the tagliatelle, that capelletti en brodo, OH MY! But I think I'd like to try that freshly made, baked ricotta most of all. I'm positively drooling here! What an episode. I love this show!
  17. The Great is delightful. Don't hesitate. I was excited to hear Elle Fanning say that they've begun shooting Season2.
  18. Something that's bugging me and that I hope we get an answer to in the finale: Several of us had speculated that the man and woman who repeatedly appeared in the commercials were Wanda's Sokovian parents. We've now seen her actual Sokovian parents; so who are the people in the commercials?
  19. While several have mentioned that Wanda was on the run for the two years between Civil War and Infinity War and we don't know how much contact she and Vision had with the others, it should be noted that there was a year between Age of Ultron and Civil War and at the end of Age of Ultron, Cap and Natasha were gathering the new Avengers for training at the Avangers complex. That group was Rhodey, Vision, Falcon and Wanda. Presumably, for the year prior to Civil War, those six lived and trained together at the complex. @Megan If you haven't already, please watch Black Panther. It's a fantastic film and perhaps the most stand-alone entry in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. You really don't need to have seen other MCU films to fully understand and enjoy Black Panther. It actually made sense that the most powerful Avenger was protecting the Mind Stone, the final infinity stone needed by Thanos and the reason for the battle, as Shuri was attempting to remove it from Vision's head. When the battle raging on the Wakandan plain heated up to the point that Wanda joined the fight, Proxima Midnight immediately sent the message, "She's on the field. Take it." [The Mind Stone.]
  20. From "Enemies Foreign and Domestic" Claudia Jean 'C.J.' Cregg: Outraged? I'm barely surprised. This is a country where women aren't allowed to drive a car. They're not allowed to be in the company of any man other than a close relative, they're required to adhere to a dress code that would make the Maryknoll Nun look like Malibu Barbie. They beheaded 121 people last year for robbery, rape, and drug trafficking, they've no free press, no elected government, no political parties, and the royal family allows the religious police to travel in groups of six, carrying nightsticks and they freely and publicly beat women. But "Brutus is an honorable man." Seventeen schoolgirls were forced to burn alive because they weren't wearing the proper clothing. Am I outraged? No, Steve. No Chris. No, Mark. That is Saudi Arabia, our partners in peace. Bonnie, then Scott.
  21. A cab (or Uber/Lyft) would have been a good idea, but for the pandemic. I'm thinking that Ellie felt reasonably secure from COVID-19 exposure in Kate and Toby's car, so it was the best choice. As for the rest of the Pearsons: Kevin was busy getting his own newborns home from the hospital, so a trip from L.A. down to the San Diego area, where Ellie gave birth, wouldn't be reasonable; Randall and Beth are in the process of driving home to Philadelphia from New Orleans; and Rebecca and Miguel are at the cabin in Pennsylvania. No Pearsons available. Different subject: Seemingly an unpopular opinion here, but I didn't see anything wrong with Randall and Beth stopping at DQ so Beth could satisfy her Blizzard craving. It seemed to be a lovely day and baby Annie sitting in her carseat was secure and at eye level with her mom and dad so she could see them. Fresh air is good for newborns! Also, Annie's their second child. Beth and Randall know what they're doing. They probably would never have done such a thing on the way home from the hospital with Tess, but with subsequent children, you're just not as nervous as you are with your first born. As long as Beth felt up to it physically, I don't see anything wrong with a delicious little detour.
  22. You are not. I would have been fine if the episode had concentrated on the present-day Pearson newborns getting home. I have absolutely had it with Jack. Dear writers, the character has been dead for more than two decades. ENOUGH ALREADY! I'm truly not sure why I'm still watching this show. Most of the time, it just annoys me now.
