  1. Oh, this is sad news. Beautiful voice. Lovely person. From Deadline: Mandisa Dies: ‘American Idol’ Contestant And Grammy-Winning Christian Music Artist Was 47
  2. From the front page of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (Unfortunately, the RaRHOF has added a Chat button and a Privacy Button that blocks some of the text on the screen shot I took.) https://www.rockhall.com/
  3. This. One time was believable and acceptable. Now, it's phony humility. Also, she's doing Sam's "Bring it" each time the last clue is hers. Stop it! I don't dislike her. There are many contestants who bug me more, but she's not on my favorites list. Just my opinion.
  4. Not cool. Oh good. I'm feeling better about Michelle's cook.
  5. Me, too! That was a nice surprise. I hope we're being misled, but I'm afraid Michelle is getting the loser's edit.

  8. I thought of you this evening. I had lovely fresh-made (purchased; I didn't make the pasta myself) ravioli for dinner. I was extra careful when bringing the plates from the kitchen to the table, remembering your ravioli disaster from last week!

Here is the NY Yankees press release on John Sterling's retirement, including a statement from the Yankees, a statement from WFAN, and a statement from John Sterling. Legendary Yankees radio voice John Sterling to retire; his unprecedented tenure to be recognized on Saturday, April 20, at Yalnkee Stadium
  11. We don't have a forum for the Writers Guild of America awards so I'm putting this here in the hope that people will see it. The WGA Award winners were announced yesterday. I'll excerpt the screenplay winners for motion pictures. The full list including television, new media, news and radio can be found at this link from WGA West. 2024 Writers Guild Awards: Winners Announced
  12. I was looking for a place on the forums where we could talk about it while it's airing, but there doesn't seem to be a place for it anymore. Yes, Billy's still got it! I honestly can't get over the range he still has at 75!

Does Angel Hernandez have some compromising info on senior MLB executives? There must be some reason this guy still has a job! (Click for the full graphic.)

This extended piece from Slate does a very good job laying out the whole Ohtani debacle. It Was Not Just Shohei Ohtani’s Translator Who Failed Him The baseball superstar was a victim in more ways than one. A small clip from the article. The entire piece is worth the read.
  16. Wow, Thursday night must really have been special at the Hollywood Bowl. From Los Angeles Magazine: Farewell to a Pirate: Stars Come Out to Honor Jimmy Buffett Here's a snippet, but the whole article (not very long) is worth the time.
  17. I'm starting to think that it may be Brad who's been opting out of playing. It's very hard to believe that the producers would not have invited him to appear. It's kind of a glaring omission, now two seasons of Jeopardy Masters in a row.
  18. Honestly, I was pretty sure I had this one locked down. My first (wrong) idea was, "It won't be as obvious as a Disney animated feature." I thought outside the box, remembered Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs, and confidently wrote that down. (I'd never seen either Isle of Dogs or Coco.) Also, a quick search yielded the fact that IOD was a 2018 release, a year too late. So much for that!
  19. I'd forgotten about Faces Of America and had just assumed it was FYR or WDYTYA. Thank you so much for remembering the source of the info and also for linking the video. I'm so happy to be able to watch it again. Finding those records was remarkable. What a gift!
  20. I can't remember whether it was Finding Your Roots or Who Do You Think You Are?, but several years ago, I remember they were able to trace Yo-Yo Ma's ancestry back thousands of years. The book of his family's history had been hidden deep inside the walls of their house during the Cultural Revolution. Millions of families in China had all their family histories destroyed during Mao's regime. It was miraculous that they were able to find it. I sat there crying while I was watching. I love Yo-Yo Ma and yes, I'm a softie. I really enjoyed this week's episode, especially the last woman's history and her reaction. I also liked that this week they told each story individually. It annoys me when they bounce back and forth between the two (or occasionally three) celebrity stories.
  21. #AnyoneButYogesh Although truthfully, I'm no fan of James either. Victoria vs James could be quite a sight to see, though. I'm happy to see the final slot go to Amy, even though I had been hoping that Buzzy would have been allowed to complete. The last we'd heard from the producers was, "You never know" a couple of years back. They seemed to be keeping the door open just a little bit.
  22. Week 31: 0/5. I'm disappointed because, as many here have mentioned, I've been doing very well in J and DJ since tournament play ended. I've run several categories and have gotten many more TS than I have in these past several months. Then again, there have been way more TS in the past three days than there have been during the various tournaments. No matter. My resurgence evidently is for the first two rounds only. For FJ, the drought continues.
  23. Robert MacNeil's is a life much more worth celebrating than the other one dominating the conversation all over again. His was a life lived to insure the much needed dissemination of the truth. His type of journalism is in very short supply in today's world. May he rest in peace with the knowledge of a job well done. Thank you, sir.
  24. It made me laugh when Buddha said he'd learned how to use liquid nitrogen to make ice cream, from a YouTube video!
