Erik Larson's Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania and I cannot get through it. I love Erik Larson's works. With Dead Wake, I can't pinpoint what's causing my lack of enthusiasm and interest. When a new Erik Larson is released, I drop everything and read it. For the first time, I'm dissapointed. Perhaps I should give it another go. If anyone else read the book I'd love to read your opinion. I'm finishing up A King's Ransom by Sharon Kay Penman. It's book 5 in her Plantagenet series about the last seven years of Richard I's life: 1192-1199, focusing on the period of his capture, imprisonment, and ransoming by Heinrich Hohenstaufen, the Holy Roman Emperor. The last book, Lionheart was my least favorite of her novels. I almost passed on this second installment featuring the ups and downs of Richard I's turbulent and fascinating life. But luckily, I decided to give it a chance.

I haven't listened to the audiobook and based on your post, I might just do that. To Rosamund Pike's credit, wouldn't the way she portrayed the character and delivered the Cool Girl rant be up to the director? I ask because I honestly don't know. I think RP did a fabulous job in the role. Her performance, her accents, her facial expressions were amazing. I admit that something about her looks threw me off but maybe that's because I imagined differently when I read the book. Tyler Perry knocked it out of the ballpark as Tanner Bolt. Loved every second he was on the screen. However, when I read the book, I pictured an arrogant Matthew McConaughey with a spray tan. The book and movie character were very different, in my opinion. Tyler Perry was spot on for the movie character.

Meghan King Edmonds: Third Wife's a Charm
turbogirlnyc replied to Null-GPUOT's topic in The Real Housewives Of Orange County
I sure as hell hope not. There's absolutely nothing to do in St. Louis. It's my hometown and the reason people are so crazy about the Cardinals is because there is nothing else to get excited about. If Jim Edmonds married Meghan to act as babysitter while he's having fun in St. Louis, I'd love to know his idea of fun. -
LMAO!: Hilarious Movie Moments
turbogirlnyc replied to Shannon L.'s topic in Everything Else About Movies
In Gladiator, when Joaquin Phoenix is watching the first match in the Colosseum, his gestures and faces are priceless. He does this little crazy woo-ooh with hand gestures while the good guys are beating the crap out of the champions, sticks his tongue out, etc. I know he's the villain but I laugh my ass off during that battle because of his reactions. Gladiator is on Netflix and although I can't figure out the point of the movie, it's one of my favorites. -
Hope we get a season three. Cute show. Sometimes the acting and dialogue are a bit cringe worthy but it's entertaining.

If CF is truly gone, I don't know if I'll watch for McAdams. I'm not interested in TK's character. Not yet anyway. Since it's only the second episode, I'm not sure if it's VV, the writing or the character. I haven't seen any VV comedies (Wedding Crashers, etc.) or dramas for that matter, so the jury's still out. Maybe it was the angle but I couldn't help but stare at Abigail Spencer's nostrils during her dialogue.

Okay then. I'm more confused than I was last week. Weird. Oh, and the psychiatrist was played by Rick Springfield. I happened to see his name in the credits.

Yes, I'm familiar with Grohl and how respected he is in the music industry. He is fun and snarky and will forever remain my favorite guest judge on Top Chef. That has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. Oh well, whatever, nevermind? ;)

Point taken. I forgot smoking was allowed everywhere back then.

"Darn, darn, darn, darn, darny-darn!" -Bad Cop I just saw this movie & love it to death!

I just saw the interview panel with Megan and turned the TV off. *sigh* She didn't even stand out amongst the other ladies. I only recognized Megan from her teeth. Her chemistry with John Hamm was rather non existent, in my humble opinion.
-
It may not be a fact but boy did Megan bring it down a notch. MMV, of course. Betty did smoke like a chimney. I wonder if pressure to be thin and anxiety had a role to play. As well as being a stay at home mom. This is a little late but were people seriously unable to stop crying (per Betty) when Kennedy was assassinated? My parents told me, meh, we were at school when everyone found out. The only comparison I can think of for my generation is 9/11 but that involved thousands of people being killed. I'm just curious.

Rewatched the first 3 seasons on Netflix recently and a few things really stood out to me. * Henry is not good looking & never was. He's also way old for Betty. Creeper for hitting on a pregnant woman. * Don is a complete ass for repeatedly cheating on & lying to Betty. * I love Carla. * I've been told by friends & strangers alike that I look like January Jones since 2008 & yeah, I can totally see it now. I hate my slightly deep-set eyes & because JJ has the same, I take the comparison as an insult. I'm also younger so... Oh, and my eyes are green, not chillingly blue. * I don't recognize any of the songs and it makes me sad. It would make the MM experience much richer. * After reading recent comparisons of Diana & Rachael, I was disappointed Rachael wasn't more... stunning? I guess that's why I didn't remember her face. Actually, all of Don's flings look frighteningly similar. Eww. * Christina Hendricks has a beautiful singing voice. * Pete is A-okay with me. I thoroughly enjoy reading the comments and stories here. Thank you for sharing. My parents & grandparents never told me about my family history. I was 27 when I found out my maternal grandfather was Jewish & survived the holocaust before eloping to marry my German, cold as ice grandmother. It's comforting to read that others are in touch with their past. That, in my opinion, is very important.

Thanks for the links. Loved it! During tonight's episode, they showed a preview of the Critic's Choice Awards which airs on A&E. I sincerely hope that has nothing to do with why Freddie & Vera were nominated. So, the actress who plays Bradley is credited before Kevin Rahm in the show opening? Unbelievable. Hello... Mad Men anyone?

Mick Lady called the end scene. Nice job! I was distracted at the end of the Bob & Romero boat scene but my DVR is set to record at 10:00. Loved the Dilemma kiss and yay! Emma agreed to get the lung transplant. I'm sad this season is over. Was it just me or did this episode overdo it on the commercials?

Not sure about the movie as it's been a long while. But if that's the case, awesome guess and/or speculation!

I watched this a few times and while I enjoyed certain parts, I loathed Courtney's involvement. She disgusts me on so many levels and she's just narcissistic enough to think/claim Kurt OD'd because he telepathically "knew" Courtney considered cheating on him. What a bunch of crap. So glad Frances was smart enough to get emancipated from that train wreck. The home videos featured in the film were made by Courtney's ex-boyfriend. Creepy. Yes, he was bass player in her band Hole but still... I have a theory about the Dave Grohl interviews not being included in the film. He was indeed interviewed but suppossedly too late for the director to "rework" what he had. Dave Grohl has never been a fan of Courtney. He's openly talked about Kurt's wishes for a divorce on several occasions. My guess is that his interview didn't quite fit the agenda of the director. Abrubt ending? That came as no surprise to me. I was very young when Kurt died and took to his music much, much later. I've read a lot about him but never realized how talented he was artistically (drawing). He also did a great impression of Bob Dylan.

*crosses fingers* Please let Dylan & Emma make it through this season alive! Caleb, Bradley, Chic & Bob Paris are totally disposable at this point.
-
I'm totally bummed Bradley is back. Mostly because the actress is horrible and sticks out like a sore thumb in this otherwise amazing cast.

William Shephard Rose III: Roman Numerals Tell You He's Rich
turbogirlnyc replied to methodwriter85's topic in Southern Charm
Sure seems that way. I really wish he'd get back together with Danni. She's sweet, gorgeous and I liked their chemistry during season 1. I can't imagine how hard it is for her to be around him while he's hitting on various other women. I hope she finds a great man that will treat her well. -
Guess I'll have to Google Priscilla Waller later. I just watched episode 3 or 4 OnDemand. When Landon was chatting with her sister on the boat, she looked a bit haggard. I know it's been speculated that she's 33 but I wouldn't be surprised if she's Shep's age. Maybe she's just spent a lot of time in the sun. Seems like Shep tends to stay fairly close to his ex-girlfriends.
-
I'm truly ecstatic for both of them! They deserve recognition, dammit. I haven't seen the past 3 episodes & won't spoil it by reading PTV. I've decided to save the rest of this season for Netflix.

Watch What Happens Live Guest Appearances
turbogirlnyc replied to cooksdelight's topic in Southern Charm
Gee, I wonder why Shep isn't dating Landon? Lol. Landon's voice doesn't bother me that much but everytime I see her Bridget Jones/Renee Zellweiger comes to mind. I'm sure she's a lovely woman & I love Bridget Jones but yeah... -
This makes sense. Especially the part about it symbolizing Anne's last chance to please Henry.
