Arienne September 9, 2014 Share September 9, 2014 Well Scout, don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Until you just now said it, I didn't know either. Wow. I always noticed them but figured it was just a show thing like Lance Armstrong's yellow rubber band bracelet. Dam, now I feel stooped. 2 Link to comment

Scout Finch September 9, 2014 Share September 9, 2014 (edited) I'm gonna go with beagletime's excuse! I always figured it was some sort of little let's-make-them-look-more-primitive accessory. It definitely wasn't something they needed to use to identify each other! Edited September 9, 2014 by Scout Finch 1 Link to comment
PityFree September 11, 2014 Share September 11, 2014 (edited) I wonder about the physical damage the participants do to themselves for the show. Even if they escape death by cobra or dengue fever, they are starving for three weeks. I wonder what the long term result of that is. I heard that in some earlier seasons of Survivor that contestants came back and starting hoarding/hiding food and exhibiting other strange behaviors as a result of the hunger they experienced. I haven't heard much about the physical effects. I assume the women would skip a few menstrual cycles and that both sexes might have hair loss from the stress. I wonder if that's it or if there is more. Edited September 11, 2014 by PityFree 2 Link to comment

Great point though and we were wondering about the same things here. Link to comment
Dbajer September 18, 2014 Share September 18, 2014 This show is as phony as they get ! I used to watch it until my wife says "this show is completely fake because not one of these women have any body hair after 21 days." She completely ruined it for me ! Link to comment
Nabonga September 18, 2014 Share September 18, 2014 Is anyone else completely put off by the nonsensical "blurring"of the privates and evidently enforced nudity even after the contestants have had time and material plenty to make rudimentary cover for their bodies? Either show them nude or give them Tarzan and Jane outfits. Clothing of some sort is a natural and logical early progression for an animal protected well by intellect but quite poorly by human skin. Just another instance where ratings trump reality. 2 Link to comment

Well, waxing or epilation lasts for several weeks. If they get waxed right before they leave for the show, they are golden. Plus, as Shoegal mentioned, laser hair removal is easy to get these days. 2 Link to comment
KidHorn September 18, 2014 Share September 18, 2014 Maybe all the mud and dirt is hiding the body hair. The thing that leads me to believe the show is at least somewhat legit is all the contestants lose a lot of weight and are covered in bug bites. I've seen wild animal shows where an animal will go weeks without food and then chase down prey. So I would guess humans can muster energy for a brief period after eating very little for a couple of weeks. 1 Link to comment

Neurochick September 23, 2014 Share September 23, 2014 I was loving this show until Discovery fucked up and decided to no longer show it "on demand," PLUS they only show it that once a week. Oh well, another show I don't watch anymore. 2 Link to comment
HurricaneVal April 20, 2015 Share April 20, 2015 I haven't been watching them, but I noticed in the TV schedule that Discovery has been running re-runs of Naked and Afraid in heavy rotation--I believe there was actually a marathon on yesterday. Does this mean they're ramping up to a new season? I hope they do the after show (minus "Bob the Blur"), because hearing about their experiences after they've had some perspective is pretty interesting. Link to comment
ramble April 20, 2015 Share April 20, 2015 There was a new episode last night (Sunday the 19th). It was Ryan & Amber in the Florida Everglades. I didn't see a thread for it & didn't start one since I wasn't sure if anyone else even watched the show anymore. 1 Link to comment

Liberty May 6, 2015 Share May 6, 2015 I was loving this show until Discovery fucked up and decided to no longer show it "on demand," We watch this "On Demand" on Comcast, all of this season's shows are currently available "On Demand" on our cable provider (Comcast). Link to comment
Princess May 9, 2015 Share May 9, 2015 Some of those women have nice sexy legs, does some guy in the production crew shave their legs for them? I don't see why not. The crew can bring razors and shaving cream. You don't need smooth legs to survive, so this won't make it easier, or give them any unfair advantage, so I would assume the policy on this is "so What?" 1 Link to comment
Princess May 9, 2015 Share May 9, 2015 I would think that everybody is put off by the non-sensical blurring of the Private Parts. Now this show is on advertizer supported basic cable so there are limits on what can be shown. Butt crack has been aceptable since NYPD blue featured this on network TV. Full Frontal nudity is not, it is associated with pornography. You have to consider that the women who are guests on this show are not there to entertain horny men, they are there to show they have what it takes to be a Marine. Ordinary people need clothing to protect their skin and hide behind. These women can get by without it. Of course a woman who wants to be in show business has to be someone who is not afraid to show people what she's got. Naked+Afraid is no exception. This show has made a compromise between yes and no to the people who want to see everything, the Blurs. Perhaps they should call the show :Naked but Blurred, 'cause that's what it's about. Princess May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 Well people, we have sat and watched long enough. It's time we have to take action. Some sadist decided to put the naked people in a place that is too hot and has too many mosquitoes. We can't let them get away with this. This weeks show was in a place that is too inhospitable, so of course she tapped out, he should have too. We have to get organized. If they do this again, we will do a sponsor boycott. getting2me August 1, 2015 Share August 1, 2015 I have just watched every episode in the last week. Don't watch hardly any reality tv and just caught an episode last week on their Thursday marathon and loved it. But I'm sure everyone has noticed. Do most and I mean 90% of the women whine, moan, and cry the whole time? I just watched the one from the 3 season, Himalayan Hell with Fadra. I wanted to slap the girl. Can't remember the black guys name but he showed all kinds of care and concern for her and she treated him like crap. Same as Chris and Erin(whatever her name) when they were on the beach and she tapped out. He absolutely flourished after she tapped out as I thought he would. He got fire right after she left, found all kinds of food and swam thru the sharks to get to the boat when it couldn't get closer to shore. I love the show but I wish they would find some mentally stronger women. 1 Link to comment
Liberty August 1, 2015 Share August 1, 2015 (edited) ... I love the show but I wish they would find some mentally stronger women. There have been a few stronger women, some can be found now on Naked and Afraid XL (now that Honora is gone). They've had some weak men on the show over the years. The weak males usually tap out following a strong display of bravado. Edited August 1, 2015 by Liberty 1 Link to comment

VioletNevermind March 14, 2016 Share March 14, 2016 This was a great first episode of the season. I expected to hate Stephen the moment I laid eyes on him. He has that slightly douchey look that I loathe. BUT, he really grew on me. He seemed to be a very compassionate, nonjudgmental person. Also, he's the kind of guy who just gets better looking the scruffier he becomes, while everyone around him looks like grim death. Chalese did okay, but I don't think she would have survived without Stephen as the de facto leader of the group. His hunting skills were impressive, to say the least. If Chalese thinks there wasn't crazy sexual tension between her and Stephen, she's kidding herself. 5 Link to comment
LittleIggy March 14, 2016 Share March 14, 2016 That was the most compatible couple I have ever seen on this show. Stephen was great, and both of them kept good attitudes. I felt sorry for the possum who died in vain. 4 Link to comment

Jenkins March 14, 2016 Share March 14, 2016 I could watch an entire season of people this compatible. This was a fun episode. MUCH more fun than watching someone like Honora grouped up with ANYONE where there is constant bickering and drama. I too thought I would hate the guy (I just don't care for arrogant people), but he seems like he doesn't take himself too seriously and the whole cocky act is just him having fun. I agree, there was most definitely some sexual tension there...for a minute I thought we might get our first onscreen hookup on Naked and Afraid. I mean, he was laying on TOP of her naked...though I think they did have their bags covering the important parts... And yeah, being the animal lover that I am, the possum dying in vain kind of bothered me. But I guess the meat would have had to have tasted pretty damn bad for starving people to throw it out (if they did since I am not sure we really found out). As far as the preview for the rest of the season, it looks brutal as hell... 3 Link to comment
ClareWalks March 14, 2016 Share March 14, 2016 I just started this episode, and I'm already baffled by this chick. She says "I'm gay, so no problems with" attraction to her partner. Then she said she still likes men. I'm like "girl, it's called bisexual. Get the 'net." 6 Link to comment

Then she said she still likes men. I'm like "girl, it's called bisexual. Get the 'net." Thank you! She doesn't have to choose when it comes right down to it. She was definitely attracted to him and vice-versa. It was clear from the moment she told him (in a little girl voice) that he had missed washing her armpit hair. If Stephen is as cool and compassionate in real life as he seemed to be, his wife or girlfriend is/will be a lucky lady. I've damn sure never had a guy whip me up an organic, yucca leaf extract hair rinse. *swoon* 6 Link to comment
ClareWalks March 14, 2016 Share March 14, 2016 They worked really well together. I appreciated how good she was with primitive fire. It isn't often someone is as good (or better) at fire as they claim to be on this show ;) Meanwhile the dude was just a great hunter and they had very positive attitudes. I would be a total mess if I had to deal with 4 straight days of pouring rain. They were troopers! 4 Link to comment
ramble March 15, 2016 Share March 15, 2016 (edited) Last week they had the season preview episode & I only paid half attention to it, noting that they seemed to be ramping up the dire situations. I was slightly dreading this first new episode, but what a treat! Two people who got along & didn't curse at each other or expound on their hatred in a confessional. It made the show fun again. I liked that they were in Alabama as well. Seeing something a little more close to home was interesting. (The Louisiana swamp episode is still one I remember vividly!) Like many of you I expected to not like the guy due to his arrogance but it seemed tempered by how much he joked around & the fact that it wasn't all talk. As much as they showed the two of them talking about full body contact for warmth & showed the dualing versions of one on top of the other I thought eventually TPTB were about to say, "On night 9 the competitors engaged in coitus in an attempt to raise their core body temperatures." However with all the spooning & cuddling I found the hair washing the hottest thing, yet oddly caring too. Good episode! Edited March 15, 2016 by ramble 4 Link to comment
Liberty March 15, 2016 Share March 15, 2016 Really nice to see the things others have pointed out, respecting their partner and cooperating. Did kind of miss the point in the show when they expose what they brought on the trip, this week looked like a machete, cooking pot and magnesium fire starter. Along the same lines as ramble, after watching this is may be difficult watching the suffering depicted in the preview part of the show. It is more satisfying to me to see people work and innovate to master the "Everest of survival challenges" than watch intolerable suffering. 2 Link to comment
Lion18 March 16, 2016 Share March 16, 2016 I really liked Steven. At first he came off obnoxious but it was an act that he got a kick out of. I agree with above poster that he would make a great boyfriend/ spouse. I told my friend as we were watching that a man who washes a woman's hair and arm pit would be a wonderful partner in life I was hoping they would hook up We googled Steven and it said he is in a relationship. He went from tattoo artist to artist. Good episode 2 Link to comment
