Frank may not play as big of a roll after S3, but there's still lots of flashbacks and stuff we learn about Frank in later books, not only from Claire, but from Brianna too--plus if they delve into any of the story from the novellas, Frank has something to do with a young Roger and apparently knew Roger's father a bit. And, he was doing research we never saw first hand in the books too and is aware of the conspiracy that comes forward in the later books.

TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't pepper in a bit of Frank in every season.

I hope so.  If for no other reason than to taunt the never-Frank contingent.

Heh, well, I'm not taunting anyone, but I like how the show has filled Frank in more than the books--I'm a firm believer every character should get filled in or not be there at all--and I like Frank as a character. I think he's interesting even if he's not always likeable.

I think one of the things that makes these stories so great is that almost none of these characters are always likeable.

Spoiler

In fact, I spend large parts of the fourth book extremely disliking Bree & Jamie.  I think Roger might be the only character who I haven't managed to dislike at some time or other.

The sheer disproportion between the amount of Frank - hate and the actual flaws and wrong-doings of this character has long ago reached a total absurdity. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before, maybe with Ginny Wesley character in Harry Potter, but the base of hatred for her character was different.

What hit me about the reactions of that part of the fandom after season 3 trailer was released, is that they seem to await his death as much (if not more) as Printshop.

  Hide contents

We know that episode 1 will bring about death of Black Jack Randall, the permanent rapist, merciless sadist and tormentor of the two main characters plus one child. Yet there is no reaction to it, while the gleeful posts/manips/gifs featuring Frank and "icy road" keep coming in heaps. One would think that people would cheer the death of a monster more than demise of a bitter man who still loved and cared for a child of another man.

I don't know where you go but I haven't seen anything like that and it would really annoy me if I did.

Spoiler

My god, the man isn't perfect but he raised - and loved! - a child that wasn't his and stayed married to a woman who not only loved another man but made it pretty clear that to her, Frank was a fallback position.  He doesn't deserve for people to be gleeful about his death.

Also, Diana has hinted that there was more going on with his plan to abscond with Bree than has been let on.

I'm sorry, I just realized we weren't in the spoiler thread...sorry if I accidentally ruined something for someone before I noticed it and spoiler tagged my post. I keep forgetting to check to make sure I'm in a Book Talk thread before responding. Sorry, sorry, sorry!

Oh, I thought she was bangin' in the black jumpsuit!  I can only wish I'd look that good!

To be fair, Claire was perfectly honest with Frank about where she had been and how she felt. She gave him an out. He just didn't take it.

Two or three tumblr blogs. Which of course reblog stuff from other blogs and that gives quite a good sense what's going on in the fandom. There are some interesting discussions regarding books under various reblogged passages or tv series discussions and people make beautiful gifs, but I will probably drop it when season 3 starts because things like the above mentioned overblown Frank-hate are sort of...souring the experience for me. I can only imagine the shitstorm when the early episodes finally air.

There are a couple of fan types that I can't stand. The Pornlander fans who are only there for Jamie and Claire and preferably Jamie and Claire fucking and who  moan excessively about screentime for any other character because it takes away from the time Jamie and Claire could spend naked . The Rapelander fan/critics who see rape in every sexual encounter without a signed 10 page consent contract before intercourse . The extreme St. Jamies who have cast Jamie in the role of flaw free wonder  guy  who can't do anything wrong , who  can't understand why Brianna loves LuciFrank and

Umm... she needed to wear a bra.  The black jumpsuit was the only one of her three outfits that I liked.  The all denim look?  No, not good on anyone.  And the beige outfit would have been fine had she worn proper, uh, support garments.

Maybe it was growing up in the 70's, but I really didn't have a problem with her not wearing a bra.  Honestly, though, she could wear a garbage bag and look gorgeous.

I would normally agree with this as well, but it was just something about how her tank top fit that it was so noticeable and I couldn't help but be distracted.  And by fit, I mean it was ill-fitting, IMO.  Plus there are some pictures where she is obviously very cold.  Also not a good look, IMO.

Nice video from a Scottish man who has seen some of Outlander. He also reads comments he has picked up in his twitter stream as well as on other internet sites regarding the series from the Scots point of view.

Thank you. I've been looking for a video of that panel. Someone did upload one, in two parts, but her entire focus was on the Once Upon a Time guy. Even when other people were talking or introduced, all she did was focus on him. His every reaction. His every breath. His every sigh. His every fart. It was ... fascinatingly boring.

I am seriously nervous about my hearing after trying to watch the Warriors panel video.  I cannot understand one word in five from most of the panelists.  Where is captioning when you need it!

Caitriona and Tobias were interviewed by ET Canada. Here are two clips -- one a bit longer than the other:

It's not you.  The sound is not great in that link I shared.  I was able to follow it relatively well because I had already listened to the version that was posted by the Colin O'Donoghue-obsessed fan  -- the one Nidratime mentioned -- the one that just kept the camera on Colin's face the whole time (SO annoying.)  That one has somewhat better sound.

Well, that headline is totally misleading and actually appears to have no real connection to the article. The article is more about the sets, the costumes, the attention to details. It doesn't spend any time talking about how sexy the season might be ... and to be honest, I don't think this season will be the sexiest if it sticks to the book. I thought the sexiest season was probably the very first. It's like the headline writer didn't even bother reading the article and is stuck in a time warp.

Between that video of Cesar Domboy and the one of Rik Rankin describing what is the desired "Scottish accent," this show has added some cute charming funny actors to their stable. The future full cast panel appearances will be fun to watch. I suspect the ability of any one actor to get a word in edgewise will be an ongoing battle once they all get going.

That's stupid.

Why?  Saturdays are historically a very bad night for television ratings; people have plans and aren't home watching TV.  Sundays are good nights for ratings.  In fact, the highest rated show in the United States is on Sunday nights - Sunday Night Football.  So my guess is that Outlander is going for the female audience that will watch while their menfolk are watching football.  Plus, as I said, it isn't going directly head-to-head with GoT and can maybe pick up the GoT audience as well.

But, thanks for just flat out calling my thought/opinion "stupid."  Much appreciated.

I wasn't calling your opinion stupid- I was calling the move to Sunday stupid.

It's been fine for me airing on Saturdays, and I don't understand why they had to move it.

Thanks for clarifying. :-)

If you watch it on the computer or through Amazon Prime or some way like that, does it really matter?  It was always released at midnight on Friday to watch at our convenience anyway.  I don't think I ever watched it on Saturday night at 10:00 (or whenever it was aired).

Last year Starz announced that it was moving its original series airings to Sunday from Saturday.

Starz moved everything. It's not picking on Outlander, specifically.

i know. Saturdays are Outlander nights. Sunday is weird :(

For me it was being able to watch Friday night/Saturday morning when it became available on Demand at midnight!

Thanks @toolazy-I'd totally blanked on that announcement. Now I wonder if it will air at the same time as Poldark when that premieres!?

The STARZ schedule looks like the first airing of Season 3, episode 1 will be at 8:00 followed by repeats at 9:00 and 10:00.  A marathon seems to be running up to the 8:00 hour.

Hmm what is Poldark this isn't firing on my teevee synapses.

Here you can see all EW new promo pics including BTS:

In my humble opinion, they are rather cheesy, but with the exception of the one inspired by "From Here to Etermity", not overly so. It's also rather consistent with the last year EW promo for season 2.

I liked the new stills from the actual show much better though:

Well... this is "Poldark" ;-)

"Poldark" is BBC series based on Winston Graham's books set in 18th century Cornwall (the last decades of 18th century to be exact) and centered on a family of copper mines' owners. It's filmed in the most gorgeous locations and full of the most beautiful people - I can't say really what is the most attractive. It tend to simplify a lot of characters' motivations or agendas, but is beautiful spectacle nonetheless. And like "Outlander" it also focuses a lot on the theme of marriage.

thanks

they also aged my fergus  it looks like :(

On my local PBS station they will usually repeat whatever episode that is shown on Sunday nights later on in the week, so you might be able to catch Poldark on repeat....

Little fun fact re: Aiden Turner,  he's filming a movie (also starring Sam Elliot) in Massachusetts where I live, and i had an opportunity to be an extra in the movie but I wasn't able to do it.   No guarantee he would have been on set that day but still......:( :( :(

Frankly, I think, back when STARZ thought that Game of Thrones and Outlander might be going up against each other on Sunday nights, I believe they made the decision to move the first new episode of Outlander to 8:00 so that people can watch that and then watch the other show on HBO if they wanted. That's why I think Outlander was moved to 8:00. However, now that preemptive move benefits those of us who want to watch both Outlander and Poldark on Sunday's. Now they'll be back to back. And, you can watch a repeat of Outlander at 10:00!

8:00 - Outlander

9:00 - Poldark

10:00 Outlander repeat

Sounds like a great evening!

That being said, now that Outlander is not going to be going up against GoT, I did wonder whether they would decide to move the show back to 9:00 p.m. again.

I totally agree.  And I have to say I'm surprised because I thought that topless cover from last year (Cait sitting astride Sam's lap with her back to the camera) was just the hottest thing ever.  So I'm not sure why this photographer pushed for all the stereotypical romance novel cover poses.  I'm very grateful for your link to the-behind-the scenes photos which include quite a few wherein Sam and Cait are clearly cracking up.  That makes me happy.

That being said -- my copy of EW just arrived and I got the Sam cover.  That makes me happy too.

And now back to my marathon of episodes while hoping I don't get hit with a hurricane (I'm in Austin Texas.)

ETA:  I'm sorry to hear of the move to Sunday because I really enjoyed all the activity on these boards all day Sunday after a Saturday airing.  Ah well, nothing's perfect.
