Bill makes the front page of the NY Daily News today (6/19):

I'm sorry, but Bill did NOT call the 9/11 terrorists "brave." That was DineshAsswipeFuckingD'souza who did, and called them warriors as well. I remember because I watched his show after the attacks. What he did agree to and say was how the U.S. were all talk and lobbying missiles from x miles away or whatever.

I guess he gets blamed for calling them brave because he didn't get angry at D'Souza for saying what he did.

He called D'Souza on it years later on Real Time (D'Souza refused to own his comments, iirc).

They really only talked about his special on DC on Friday and how he was taking a police escort from his regular show (a studio somewhere in DC) to the place where his standup special would be.  He said he was nervous about not being able to prepare in between shows but i think he must have his standup pretty well rehearsed.  I thought it was a very short interview.

Again, what is a secular Muslim?

If he focused on Wahhabism in Saudi Arabia, I would be with him on that.

He cited Saudi Arabia on the show as an example of a place where women's rights are terribly unequal and lacking.

She really just doesn't know what Bill is criticizing here. It's not like she's wrong about anything she's talking about, it that what she's talking about isn't what Bill was saying. It's about how you develop the rule of law. I have a hard time accepting that a society is free and democratic where these honor killings are still a thing. This is something endorsed by a sovereign state.

I think it's somewhat ironic that she's married to a Jew because there's several countries where "her Islam" would throw her in jail.

I've always thought there was a fundamental problem when someone identifies themselves based on a religion.

I think what it really boils down to is do we really need religion? For some reason, people panic if you suggest we should get rid of it.

Bill loses all cred as a progressive really, when he speaks of supporting Rand Paul.

I just read this comment and couldn't agree more.  I hope he was just trying to stir up controversy.  I'm in the camp that thinks Elizabeth Warren can't win and Hillary can.  Rand Paul would be an absolute disaster.

I just watched the show. Bill was clearly delineating between the character in the movie and the one who wrote the book.

I'm kind of over how everyone who served in the military is lionized as a hero.

Bill had some good zingers about the GOP debate last night on twitter. I wonder if any will make it to the monologue.

My fave: Saying we need to rebuild the military is like saying county fairs need more fried food.

There's a petition to get Obama to be a guest on Real Time on Bill's 60th birthday.

Considering he donated a million dollars to Obama's presidential run and Obama seems ready to finally act like he has no darns to give about what conservatives think anymore, maybe it'll happen, even if by satellite.

Waaaaah!!!

What Bill shows here is he can't stand the fact that other people, like Jon and Stephen, have done a far better job at getting their points across, and being funnier to boot, than he ever could. The awards and acclaims they've received over the years is proof of that.

The fact that Bill lives in a Hollywood bubble makes it hard for me to see his point. Living in and around NYC forces everyone to interact with the wider world and that's why Jon, John, Stephen, Samantha, Seth Meyers, Larry and even Trevor have a better sense of what's going on. His comments in that article are so tone-deaf it's laughable.

On Face The Nation, Obama was asked why he doesn't say "radical islam". I thought it's relevant to mention since it was specifically brought up in the interview segment on the past RT.

Basically, Obama said, "Because I have to deal with foreign leaders who are actually muslim and don't like a bunch of terrorist hijacking their religion, and I don't want to give IS any legitimacy."

I agree with Bill about religion, but I fail to see why he doesn't grasp what seems like a straightforward concept to me. If anyone on the literal planet has to choose their words carefully it's the potus.

He doesn't understand because he would have to admit that he was wrong. It's the same reason he doesn't understand medical science or feminism. Also this issue pushes Bill's buttons like a 2 year old on an office phone. He believes that religion is all bad and if you condemn extremists as perverting or misunderstanding the fundamental teachings of their professed faith you are in denial and the whackjobs are just being honest while the rest of the believers are in denial. He also believes that all religion is equally bad, but Muslms are especially bad, moderate Islam is a fantasy, and you have to say radical Islam all the time or you're soft on terror. There are all sorts of nuances here and Bill doesn't really do nuance well.
