Honestly, I'd rather see Lassie and Henry rescue them in that scenario (or Chief Vick and Juliet).  I'm afraid that a Monk cameo would take time away from the other main characters, they really didn't resolve the Lassie or Vick storylines in this movie.

tbh I'd want a Monk movie

then a monk/psych team-up

maybe a white collar movie so we have a monk-psych-white collar meetup

Neal on White Collar faked his death and is living in Europe though. SFPD could team up with Peter on a special case, and they could all go to New York!

No way Monk would travel though.

I would like to see Gus be abducted. James knows these characters pat, and I'd like to see how terrified Shawn would be and to what lengths he'd go to find Gus. He wrote the horror episodes really well, so I think he has the chops to pull off something not as light as this movie.

Before WG passed away, I would have agreed but without Mozzie...

I think they could do something without him - it would definitely have a different tone, though

Obviously Neal reveals he didn't die because he has to return because of Something Big (tm).

Monk has traveled to New York before!

I would like to see Gus & Jules get abducted, so Shawn and Chief Vic have to work together.

or of course that is where Monk would cross over, Shawn and Monk have to work together, because someone important to Monk has also been kidnapped (Traylor Howard, aka Natalie, retired from acting, so maybe they bring back Sharona?).

Elizabeth (White Collar) made trips to the Bay area for her business. And she's an experienced kidnapee. No travel required on Monk's part.

There we go.

Now we just need a way for Michael Weston and Hank whatever from Burn Notice and Royal Pains to appear, and we have a Blue Skies Cinematic Universe.

This makes no sense to me. Shawn and Vic have worked together. In the series and in the first movie. And Jules already has been abducted. In the season four finale, "Mr. Yin Presents" Jules and Abby are kidnapped and Shawn is faced with who to save. Gus and Lassie saved Jules, while Shawn and Henry saved Abby. And Shawn was working with Chief Vic on this case.

And as stated above, Gus has been in danger, and Shawn has shown how much he loves his best friend as he tries to save him:

  • "Gus Walks Into a Bank"
  • "There's Something About Mira"
  • "Last Night Gus"

Here is a picture of him looking sort of normal. He’s a singer and also writes horror movies I think. He usually has crazy scary makeup on when he performs.

Late in responding, but yes, both Shawn and Gus talked about how Shawn's disguise was that of Rob Zombie; the only reference to Ted Nugent was something about skull & bones underneath his picture (?) by Lily to Lassie.

I caught a video on YouTube of James and Dulé for a Q&A before Peacock reaired "Last Night Gus" and both were simultaneously providing commentary. I missed the live watch and talk, but both said they will continue to do these movies and when they're 60, do another "Viagra Falls" playing the roles of William DeVane and Carl Weathers!😅😅

It was a whole scene on the porch with Lassiter and Sean‘s dad. About going to a Ted Nugent concert.   The wife had texted , the little girl was re-reading the text. They were all excited practically jumping up and down on the porch , The daughter asked her dad is that the guy with a crossbow I’ll get away? Lassiter  said yes yes it! It was was disgusting and homage to gross politics .

What's another show I should watch now that I've seen every episode of Psych and Monk so many times that I can recite the lines verbatim along with the actors?  Looking for recommendations.

Leverage and White Collar come to mind.

Though to be fair, Monk is in a class of his own. If you don't mind something a bit darker, Elementary has a brilliant, flawed genius solving crime.

Leverage can be humorous though it's more of a caper/con type of show. It can also be pretty geeky, like Shawn and Gus often are. White Collar, otoh, has that breezy, USA "characters welcome" feel.

I wouldn't mind some suggestions for similar shows myself.  I'm tired of Dick Wolf or NCIS: Wherever shows.

I was a fan of Elementary but it can be *way* darker than Psych IMO.

The last season ending was very dramatic and inventive though.

True. And yet structurally it's so similar to Monk. Brilliant, damaged detective is a police consultant, where he had a previous working relationship with the captain. They both have female assistant/caretakers. Of course, Elementary is a modern Sherlock Holmes, which gets all the attention.

Where it reminds me of Psych is how it's the tiniest details that solve the crime. I rarely felt cheated with a reveal.

Thanks for the recommendations.  I do enjoy a bit of humor with my crime solving.  Anything along those lines in particular?

White Collar has a touch of humor

iZombie has some humor, but it has a biiiig decline in the last seaosn

Pushing Daisies was two seasons of delightfully bright crime solving

Finally watched "This Is Gus" and was thoroughly entertained. I thought it was the best of the three movies and well structured. Sometimes the zaniness distracts from the show (in my opinion) but in this movie it was just the right amount.

I succumbed to enrolling in yet another streaming service, but got a pretty good deal. 99 cents per month for a whole year.  Black Friday special.  Sure hope another Psych movie comes out before November 2023.  LOL

I miss this show and these characters so much. I really hope there is enough interest for a fourth movie!!! 🙏

There absolutely is more than enough interest. It's really both James and Dulé's schedules that are preventing a fourth movie. I think I read or saw an interview where both said they are always willing to do another movie.

I wonder if they manage to do another, if they would consider doing a two part movie.  It would have been nice if Henry and Lassie could have been more involved in the last one, I think someone said it would have been great seeing them drive to the rescue or something.

A Million Little Things is going to air its final season starting in January; so, presumably, James will have more availability soon.

I didn't know that show was ending. The Wonder Years has been moved to the summer. I'm not sure if it's even going to be renewed. Maybe we will get a fourth movie soon.

Queens of Mystery (British - Acorn Hoopla/local library) - young detective returns home to her quirky village and investigates crimes with the "help" of her three best selling mystery author aunts. Longer B plot concerns the disappearance of her mother and the mystery of who her father is.

My Life is Murder (New Zealand - Acorn Hoopla/local library) - Lucy Lawless stars as a widowed retired police officer who just wants to bake bread and not have a cat. Much like the cat that keeps finding its way into her house, her former colleagues keep popping up with cases for her to consult on and a data analyst to mentor. It's fun light mystery of the week show.

Scott and Bailey - Not a light funny kind of comedy mystery but an excellent mystery series with some moments of comedic what the heck-ness. (British - Acorn or Hoopla local library).   Think if Cagney & Lacey were done today but British.

Just thought of a suggestion - The Brokenwood Mysteries.  Great show from New Zealand with a fine cast including a lot of entertaining semi-regular characters, and a mix of total humor and (at times) sudden shift into total drama.  Showing on Acorn.

My cable provides two Hallmark channels during the year.  The Movies and Mysteries channel shows Monk in the afternoon.  Beginning January 2nd Psych will air at 3:00 and 4:00 PM.  I don't know how long this will continue.  They are starting with the pilot and Spelling Bee episodes.

Can someone help me out? What’s the name of the song that played at the end of season four’s finale during the montage? Where Jules breaks down in Lassie’s arms, Henry is cleaning off the window, Shawn and Gus at Marion’s funeral, and we see that Yin is played by the AWESOME Peter Weller?

It ALWAYS gives me chills!

I’ve been rewatching and am up to season six. Blech.

Why, oh WHY did Liam have to be the exception and hit puberty early? I hated Skylar Gisondo. He lacked Liam’s snark and wise-assness.

But it’s Gus and Shawn’s friendship (due to James and Dulé’s’ chemistry) that keeps me watching.

Although there seems to be a consensus on these threads that Skylar Gisondo was not great as young Shawn (I didn't mind him at all), just thought I should mention that he is one of my favorite characters on one of my favorite shows right now: The Righteous Gemstones. He's great on that show. I knew he looked familiar and in reading these threads I realized why.

Love Psych! Been re-watching a lot of the episodes this summer.

Also love The Righteous Gemstones and recommend!

New Psych fan here with lots of thoughts, but I'll keep it short.  Sort of.

I happened to be watching a Hallmark movie that ended and din't change the channel and the next thing I know there is Carey Elwes on my screen!!! So I kept watching and thought the show was hysterical.  I don't know why I didn't tune in when it first came out, I was familiar with Dule and Corbin and a little with Maggie.  I'm glad that was my first episode though, because if I'd watched the first one as my introduction I probably wouldn't have continued.

So I checked to see when the series would be starting over again, and when it did, started recording every episode.  Problem is, I have limited DVR space, so I had to binge watch every single day to clear room for the next day. So unlike a lot of your who watched as the series unfolded, for me, it was a lot of Psych all at once and my perspective is probably different.  After the first round of bing watch, I recorded it all again from the beginning for a 2nd opportunity.

As much as I enjoy to bro-ness between Shawn and Gus, the early seasons, I quickly tired of Shawn.  I'm generally not a fan of physical comedy (ala Jerry Lewis), so the spastic movements and over-the-top gestures were a bit much.  I like that it toned down in later seasons.  I didn't like any of the "scary" episodes, but I did think Ally Sheedy was brilliant.

The concept started to wear a little thin, but then was rescued my Marlowe and Woody.  Both of those characters added a lot.  I thought McNabb was underused a bit, and just a wee bit more Officer Morningwood would have been welcome. I also struggled with the incessant pop culture references.  Maybe because so many of them went over my head, but also, it just got tiresome.

I will continue to use the word brilliant, and Shawn best performance was in the one where Gus's college buddies come together for a funeral.  Watch JAmes' face while he listens to Gus sing for (purportedly) the first time. The raw mix of joy and wonder and respect and awe and pride, it just all comes together.

By far my favorite character turned out to be Lassiter - Timothy plays him brilliantly.  Next post I will share my favorite quotes.

My favorite episodes included of course American Duos and Black and Tan.  But Shawn and the Real Girl is one of my favorites.  It skewers Bachelorette et al perfectly.  And I loved it when the SAndra Panitch re-do actress says that at first she thought Gus and Shawn were an item because they were so into eachother.

More thoughts will undoubtedly sprout up after I post this.

edited to add: how did I forget to mention Lights, Camera, Homicidio as another favorite episode

Favorite Lassie quotes:

by Josh Malina in the werewolf episode, describing Lass:  "Robert Goulet dressed like Mr. Bean playing the scarecrow in a summerstock production of the Wizard of Oz dedicated to Tony Randall." Bwah!  And I'm plenty old enough to remeber both Goulet and Randall. Such a spot on description.

Lassie:  All romance ends in despair, or death, but mostly despair.  Gut wrenching despair.  All people are essentially just out to destroy any chance of happiness you ever had.

Lassie:  People have sex and they kill each other.  That's reality.

Any of his "I'd rather" retorts to certain events

- I'd rather learn to play the harp
- I'd rather go to the mall with McNabb
- I'd rather spend the rest of my life at the Lilith Fair
- I'd rather fall in love with a Vegan.

It's all in the delivery of course.

And after Marlowe, oh the way he glowed!  And how funny the first time she comes to his place for dinner, when everybody comes to the door to warn him and he answers the door wearing garters.   But before that, lighting the hand grenade candle.  And the guns all over the house, and of course the uzi painting with flowers coming out of the barrel.

Their wedding episode hilarious - half the guests wearing ankle monitors or handcuffs, the orchestra all packing heat.  When the nob comes in, the shot of McNabb/Morningwood tripping up the stairs ripping his tear away pants off. That's comedy gold.

I just did a re-watch of the whole thing, down to the movies. I forgot how weird season 8 was. I did not like the Gus Nightmare on Elm Street episode at all. (Probably because I don't like or watch horror films so I didn't understand what on earth was going on.)

Another light and fun British Mystery series is Shakespeare and Hathaway

I love that show! I found it last year. It was put on Ovation channel after Murdoch Mysteries season ended. It's so fun and funny. I love the main characters especially Sebastian. I love how they work in Shakespeare plays into the episodes. I love how in four seasons and living in Stratford only one person committed to Frank and Lu about their last names.
