We didn't have insurance for a year and we got hit HARD (3 emergency surgeries and a ton of tests). Then we had insurance but it was a crappy plan. We're basically stuck with medical bills that exceed $90,000. We just started bankruptcy proceedings. I was paying on them every month but they just keep coming. People say, "Just pay $10 a month on them or something!" And that would be fine if it were just one bill, but it's not-it's 52 different bills. (Doctor, x-ray, lab, separate hospital, anesthesiologist, etc.) Medical bills are more than our mortgage, more than our car payment. I am afraid to open my mail because every day it's a new one. *shudder* Anyhoo. Yeah, bankruptcy. I tried to pay them, tried for a year. I just can't. With my husband losing his job last fall and my business being feast or famine, it's kind of coming down to choosing between medical bills or feeding the family. There is a HUGE difference between Matt skipping out on paying bills versus anyone else who truly had medical issues and either had no insurance or their insurance didn't cover their costs. That shit happens to many people everyday of the week. Matt is a loser. Matt is trailer trash who won the lottery (tm Nathan). There is no reason whatsoever for him to have run away from his obligations. Don't feel sorry for him. Feel sorry for the countless children he left behind who likely have medical problems or very little health insurance. There is also a difference between people who must file for bankruptcy due to overwhelming financial burdens and someone who is pulling in at least five figures a year, has earnings from a book deal, is acquiring memorabilia and is flaunting all of that publicly. 9 Link to comment
