You stud! I had a bunionectomy and osteotomy last Thursday and have been bedridden since. Which is driving me NUTS. This show has actually helped me not eat when I’m bored (which is all the time when you have to sit in bed)and not freak out over manageable pain. Thx, Dr Now!

Yikes! Foot surgery is different...there are weight bearing bones involved. I don't walk on my fingers!

Rest up, and keep on Pounding!

I know he’s brought a lot of this on himself, but I have such empathy for someone so helpless and so devoid of anything. I know this is generally a snark thread, but my heart breaks for him.

He needs a social worker.

I was thinking hopefully Adult Protective Services will be called in. There's no way he's going to be able to get this fixed on his own. I felt so bad for him walking in and seeing all of his stuff had been ruined. I'm guessing he held on to a lot of that stuff as a substitute for his mother. That had to be devastating for him

But OMG, walking through flood areas in his bare feet??? I'm shuddering just thinking about that.

Sean is a perfect example of learned helplessness.  He is too far gone. He will never learn to be able to take care of itself. That is my humble opinion.

I agree. It's really sad him losing everything in his apartment even if it was weighing him down. He still had a lot of memories there.

Just the way he went and sat out on his front stoop waiting to absorb more help and resources. There's no way he could possibly figure any of this out on his own, let alone do anything about it.

If left to his own devices, I don't know what he would do. He wouldn't do anything.

Sean probably wasn't wearing a shirt when the ambulance took him to the hospital.

I've seen people in Boston from time to time who have clearly just been released from the hospital--dressed in gowns, carrying those plastic bags marked "patient belongings". Street people, poor people, homeless. On a bus or the subway, no one to pick them up or take care of them. Its sad.

I don’t know, sounds like you COULD walk on your fingers

The hospital has to have a social worker. Why hasn’t Sean seen that person??

Good question

Me 2!

Seemingly out of habit, he went and sat down in front of his refrigerator and when he opened it up, did he almost seem to be expecting there to be edible food inside of it?

Poor dude doesn't have a lick of common sense.

His mother completely crippled him mentally as well as physically!

I’m not even angry at Sean because he has no abilities at all (minus crocheting and whining, of course). He needs an advocate. If I had to guess, I would put his IQ around 85. It’s a mess on every conceivable level.

I was thinking the same thing. He has a very low IQ, probably in the eighties.

This goes without saying, but I am endlessly furious at his mother. What she did to him, or even did t do, is atrocious. It’s like the other side of the coin of neglect. He has no coping skills. The mentality of a 10 yo, and that’s probably verryyyy generous.

Hell, my 2 year old, of her own volition, has more common knowledge of self care, cleaning, and preparing food than this 27 year old man! She’s like me, though, in that I insisted I should start doing my own laundry at 13, got my liscnse at 15 and moved out 3 weeks after graduation. Sean, seemingly, appears to be naturally unmotivated and risk adverse, a perfect base for his mother’s horrible parenting. He’s like those poor children you read about, neglected to the point of brain atrophy and cognitive deficits. As a mother, I just can’t fathom wtf she was thinking raising him to such a helpless lump.

He'll never leave me! (Unless he dies.) Never mind what happens to him when she inevitably leaves him. (Unless he dies first.)

Why is she spending money on take out??

She can probably get groceries delivered, too.
