CW has been releasing these mini-interviews leading up to the premiere, but this one has new footage from Season 2!

Please don't ever kill Cisco. (Again.)

I agree.. Joe and Cisco interaction is just pure gold and just lovely to watch. Cisco is like a little boy always looking for a mentor, a father figure, and I think they have been building Joe as that man, especially with the reveal of Wells being evil and how it painful it was for Cisco who viewed him as a father figure.

Joe will be good for Cisco.

One thing I noticed reading this, is that the reporter seems to really be trying to get Candice to bad mouth her fans and WestAllen fans. I'm glad Candice didn't take the bait.

What is it with reporters being so disrespectful to Candice and the fans? First Dragon Con and now this... actually not even DRagon Con was first - this has been a pervasive issue all season.

Although I loved this post from one of the commenters in the comment section:

"She had a lot going against her. First there were some people who didn't think she deserved the role, because she didn't look like Iris from the comic, so they needed a reason to hate on her without looking racist. Then people automatically connected to Caitlin, because she was the sweet supportive girl to the main hero, who was involved with the main plot, while Iris was deliberately kept out of the main story, and was just there to turn down Barry over and over. Predictably, this frustrated all of the resentful nerds out there who were appalled that anybody would ever break the heart of our main hero, so Iris represented the "evil hot girl who friendszones all of the nice guys who finish last."

I've been thinking this has been the case for some time, especially among many fanboys, once I really, really thought about who the typical demographic is for comic fanboys.

I assume that he was finished with that by the time of the interview though. Plus Vixen is a web series really...not the same as the live action ones he'll be in

A mini show still counts on the resume. From what I hear voice acting is not easy.

That was super cool to watch. I used to do Computer Graphics in grad school (eventually switched to User Research and HCI instead), and I loved seeing how far it's come since I had to build my own computational models for rendering draped cloth, lol.

I just bought the season pass from iTunes. I don't know if it's been mentioned but one of the extras is the screen test between Grant Gustin and Emily Bett Rickards. I thought that was really odd, and a bit disrespectful to Candice.

I don't know if it's disrespected, but I think they did it cause they assumes that's what most people wanted to see. It would have been better if they had put Candice's up as well.

It seems like when it comes to bts footage, Candice always come up missing. I wonder why.

I think the screen test between GG and EBR was included as an extra because that screen test is what helped get GG cast as Barry Allen in the first place. The character of Barry Allen was first introduced on Arrow and, due to the role Barry was to play on Arrow at the time, the EPs wanted to cast someone who had chemistry with EBR.  If Barry Allen had been introduced on Arrow in a different way, like as a potential love interest for Laurel or Thea, then they would've had the auditioning actors screen test with KC or WH.  It would've been a different story if Barry Allen had first debuted on The Flash, then there would've been no screen tests between GG and any Arrow actor.

-- IGN article (Dec. 3, 2013):

There are some pretty notable sparks on Arrow between Barry and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) and Kreisberg explained, “It was just something we were talking about when we were figuring out how we were going to bring him in. We spent a lot of time talking about Barry, even before the pilot aspect, just how we were going to introduce him in these episodes. Especially with the way the season had been going, talking about Oliver and Felicity and their growing relationship or feelings for each other, the fact that Barry and Felicity are so similar and they're both a little bit uncomfortable in their own skins and both very likable and personable, it just seemed like they would instantly hit it off, which would complicate things for Oliver even more. It felt like the right way to go. One of the things we did when we were testing some of the finalists was Emily Bett Rickards came down from Canada to read [with them] and the minute we saw her read with Grant, it was a done deal.

Executive producer Greg Berlanti couldn’t resist joking, “Yeah, we wanted to make sure he didn't seem like jailbait next to her!” Gustin exclaimed, in reply, “I am older than her!”

-- Andrew Kreisberg interview (published on youtube):
Kreisberg: "You can't predict or count on chemistry, and there was just magic between them... Emily Bett Rickards was generous enough to let us fly her down, and to do this screen test.  And you could just see it between the two of them. They just had chemistry. It's hard to talk about because it's - you know, if it was quantifiable, everyone would be doing it."

Yeah - don't care. EBR is NOT on The Flash and she's not the leading lady of The Flash and she's not even technically the lead on Arrow. All of the exposure she's getting on The Flash has made me very resentful of her presence on The Flash and even has marred my enjoyment of Arrow.

I think this was done to give her more props because she's actually NOT the leading lady of Arrow. Katie Cassidy still is, even if they've cut her screen time to almost nothing. I only hope she's gotten a great contract that gets her a much higher rate for her time so she (Katie) earns more even if she's onscreen less. She deserves it with all of the hate she's had to endure from shippers.

CP is the leading lady for The Flash and when she was cast, there were a ton of comments from all of the producers about how amazing their chemistry was, etc. and yet it wasn't included for the actual show that BOTH actors are on?

I'm calling complete and utter bulls!t.

We know exactly why her chem test was left off. The right response would have been to show both of them, or ONLY Candice's. Period.

If they show Shantel's next year and we still don't see CP's, then that would be even worse, but I actually expect that from a PR department who last year couldn't be bothered to remember that CP was the leading lady - or even on the show - based on her absence from nearly every promotional piece they did.

Sometimes a spade really is a spade.

If GG was still on Arrow or this was included in the Arrow's DVD or something that has to do with Arrow, your explanation would make sense. ER is not a main character on Flash. So it doesn't matter what kind of chemistry he has with her.

So I have to agree with Phoenics about this just being more exposure for ER or this was what most people were requesting.

This was GG's screen test that got him the role. I don't see why there is issue with it's inclusion? It would be cool to see the other actors's screen test but Barry (and nobody else) is the star of The Flash.

And Felicity was a recurring character on The Flash. I think a lot of fans will be happy to have the GG&EBR screen test.

But I do hope CP gets more exposure she is a nice Iris with a lot of potential.

And KC might make more money but she and Stephan Amell's issues are the reason there was Chem test going forward.

We've said several times that the reason for the issue is that they didn't include CP's and GG's chem test... since they are both from the show and the leading male and lady of The Flash. Not including it is problematic for a number of reasons.

If they wanted to include EBR's test with GG, they should have included CP's.

And we best NOT be seeing the screen test from Shantal and GG EVER, unless they release the CP one.

I'm so sick of the disrespect to Candice.

The chem test between GG and CP didn't get the star of the show the job. CP wasn't even the love interest last season. She was a crush and potential Li. Like Felicity was in Arrow s2.  I know Iris is the comic wife&true love but that isn't a 100% guarantee to transfer to the show(Though I think it will). I know GG and CP did a chem test but do we know what the scene dynamic they chose? Perhaps it was more the brother/sister feel some of the West/Allen scenes were this season.  Plus with Iris having her own Love interest last season and Barry having his own little love interest last season and potentially for season 2, having CP's chem test with GG would be like declaring them a couple when the show hasn't even had them as a couple yet. Felicity is different because she is a regular on another show. No one thinks her and Barry are end game with that important detail.

I do think the Flarrow Fans give "lead actress" much more power than it deserves on a TV show about a male titled character. TV shows can last a year or 6 or 12 or more years so huge changes can happen depending on life and money. The lead character is the only true lead and it too has shifted a few times though it's rare.

This discussion regarding the chemistry screen test has run its course. None of us truly know why it was included in the extras and others weren't. The conversation has moved from positive discussion into argumentative and somewhat negative. It is time to move on and discuss something else.

The Flash forums should be a fun place where we can all discuss the show!
