peeayebee July 17, 2018 Share July 17, 2018 Another one: IN ENGLAND TRUMP MEANS FART #PRESIDENTFART I can't decide if Putin has something on Trump. He might -- I do believe that Trump's night in the hotel at Moscow years ago was recorded, as is the Russian custom -- but there are other explanations. First off, Trump isn't a deep person. He is steered by money/power and his ego. He loves having his ego stroked and will reward those who do so. His reward to Putin (for obviously stroking his ego) is to praise him and avoid criticizing him. He also can't stand to have his election victory sullied by any hint that he didn't earn it, so he won't accept as true that Russia intervened at all, even if there was no collusion. The thing is, Trump is all about what's best for Trump, not for the United States. I've been reading such good things about Sorry To Bother You. I don't know if I'll make it out to the theater or have to wait for a streaming option, but I'm eager to see it. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/60972-tds-30-season-three-talk/page/11/#findComment-4498159

Victor the Crab July 19, 2018 Share July 19, 2018 Amazing show last night. And not just because we were stunned to discover Trevor was once a contestant on South Africa's DWTS. Trevor did a great job in presenting the story of Nelson Mandela's life, from his childhood, his membership in the ANC, his imprisonment and release, and his becoming president of South Africa and a symbol of peace. I'd imagine Trevor was so looking forward to tell Mandela's story, especially after all the non stop bullshit coming from Drumpf. What I'd hope Trevor would have brought up was a microcosm of what Mandela was all about in the form of South Africa's national rugby team. Throughout most of the 20th century, the Springboks as they were nicknamed were the pride of South Africa's ruling white minority, and the bane of the black populace. Mandela used to actively root against them while in prison. But in the 80's, the Springboks were being boycotted from participating in international matches due to their country's apartheid rule, which was one of the driving forces behind South Africa's decision to end it. After Mandela was released and became president, an opportunity arose to end the Springbok's brand and create a new identity for post apartheid South Africa. Mandela refused to do this, saying that the Springbok's should be allowed to carry on as they are, not as a symbol of its past, but as a unifying one for all its citizens. And to make that point so clear, before the 1995 World Cup Final between the host nation South Africa and their opponents the All Blacks from New Zealand, Mandela came out to the field in Johannesburg wearing the Springbok's green jersey that he once rooted against. It was an emotional moment for the home crowd and was seen by many as the glue that helped bind the country as a whole for good. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/60972-tds-30-season-three-talk/page/11/#findComment-4504141

That response to the criticism of his joke was very fair. he acknowledges why people objected, and he talks about his own point of view, and he makes his case. But it's very reasonable and doesn't come off defensive. I actually had misgivings about the joke when he first told it, even though I had not heard that the right wingers were using the same idea. I wasn't outraged, I just had mixed feelings. We don't talk about athletes in the USA as being "African" when they're members of USA teams. So I was thinking about it from the perspective of: why is it that way when they're French? But at the same time, I also got what he was saying, so it wasn't a big deal for me, just kind of a head scratcher. And I thought his discussion of it in that between scenes video covered the issues it raised in a way that shows he's not just being a dick, he's making conscious choices when he does something controversial, and he's willing to explain himself and listen to what people have to say about it in a respectful way. I prefer that to people who just get off on stirring up controversy for the hell of it. I also love that his perspective is comfortable being what it is, and he's not trying to blend into the late night whitescape. 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/60972-tds-30-season-three-talk/page/11/#findComment-4509505

They have about an acre of land. The honey is unreal. To be fair to Ronny, the people to whom he was referring in the piece weren't doing that. Chickens just don't lay eggs. And if there is a rooster in the bunch, then it knocks everything out of whack. They were showing the chickens walking into the house, and the people were sitting around after work watching the chickens just walk around. Ronnie's point was that this was just something these people were doing. There's no purpose to it, and then they'd move on to something else. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/60972-tds-30-season-three-talk/page/11/#findComment-4509510

Kaoteek July 26, 2018 Share July 26, 2018 (edited) What you seem to be missing is the fact that France is not feeling insulted because some of our players have african roots. We're not "offended" by the suggestion that our people come from that particular continent. We don't think Africa or Africans are insults. Other people do, though. The same exact people who are currently plaguing Europe in the same way the alt-right has been plaguing the US, people who reduce black people to their athletic endeavours (the classic "those Africans, they're good at sports, but aside from that, they're worthless"), the same people who make monkey noises in stadiums whenever a black soccer player gets the ball, who oppose african immigration, who are slowly inching their way to power in many european countries, and the same exact people who openly dismissed the World Cup result because... well, too many black players. The same people who have felt legitimized when bitter mainstream newspapers had the headlines "Africa has won the WC", when other foreign players have complained about the amount of african players on the french team, and yes, when Trevor made the same joke (albeit in very different conditions). Because according to those loud, racist people, when an african political analyst/comedian says that the french team isn't french, but african, that proves what they've been saying for years, and it emboldens them even more. Contrary to what a lot of american op-eds seemed to think when they've analyzed this situation through the prism of US society & politics, that's what bothered a lot of french people, that's what they reacted to ; we didn't try to "take away the players africanness", to hide it, nor were we ashamed of it. As a society, we've been fighting for years against the rise of the far-right, and that "the french team didn't win, the african did" just struck a nasty chord, playing right into nationalists & racists' hands, and into a controversy that was already going on. (also, let's be honest, french media are just as clickbaity as the rest of the world's, and most of them just jumped on the bandwagon, parroting Trevor's joke without explaining the context or the fact that Trevor is south african. Internet outrage snowballed from there.) Edited July 26, 2018 by Kaoteek 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/60972-tds-30-season-three-talk/page/11/#findComment-4525410
ganesh July 26, 2018 Share July 26, 2018 I almost think that Trevor's Melania is better than his Trump mainly because he busts it out rarely and always says ridiculous things. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/60972-tds-30-season-three-talk/page/11/#findComment-4526264
Lantern7 July 27, 2018 Share July 27, 2018 (edited) @ganesh . . . perhaps that's because we get more impersonations of her husband? I'm not watching Eighth Grade. Junior high school was the worst three years of my life. I am happy for Bo Burnham. I liked his musical comedy act. He had a series on MTV years ago . . . but as you can see, I wasn't thrilled with it. ganesh July 27, 2018 Share July 27, 2018 That's what I was saying. He does the Melania rarely and it's always something absurd "I'm seeing a black man. Heees name is Don Lemon." I like how he says "Donald". She sounds so put upon. 13 hours ago, Lantern7 said: I'm not watching Eighth Grade. Junior high school was the worst three years of my life. I really didn't have that bad of an experience in junior high or high school. I kind of feel bad that so many people did. The problem with the bit Trevor did about how Trump fixed everything that he ruined in the first place is that his supporters just don't grasp that larger context. I like Cortez, and I'm rooting for her. I feel like she's in a no-win situation in a way. People complain about both parties 'being just as bad' (which I don't believe) or how they don't bother voting because 'it's the same people all the time'; so here we have someone brand new and young, and it's like, "oh she doesn't know what she's doing." 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/60972-tds-30-season-three-talk/page/11/#findComment-4529393
CheezyXpressed July 28, 2018 Share July 28, 2018 On 7/26/2018 at 12:00 AM, Kaoteek said: What you seem to be missing is the fact that France is not feeling insulted because some of our players have african roots. I had other teams I was rooting for, but my family cheered for whoever had black people and/or Muslims. Many Africans made similar jokes about how France is the last African team in the World Cup, so when Trevor made that African joke, I just viewed it as a joke from an African cheering for people who looked like him. I think the ambassador should have used this as a means to show just how diverse France is and how they accept everyone, instead of going about it the way he did. If it was anyone else, the letter might work, but Trevor is from South Africa. He was going to cheer for anyone with Africans in the end. It's what we all did...though I was pulling for Croatia too, since they played so well. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/60972-tds-30-season-three-talk/page/11/#findComment-4531437
ganesh August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 (edited) If you're saying "obstruction of justice" can only legally be a criminal offense if done in private should be summarily 5150-ed as a danger to society. Andrea Mitchell doesn't think it's fair to connect the president with the shooting at the newspaper? Not even a little, for creating a hostile violent environment? Come on.
