I suppose he just should have shut up and say his lines but he is a very talented and charismatic actor with a mind. But Galen has been there for years with no charisma and still can't act but is probably the biggest ass kisser behind the scenes. That's my take on this travesty.

Sometimes the show wants to focus on other stories so the actors lose money and screen time and take the hit in their contract. Things typically change for the vets, Deidre, Drake, KA have all taken lower contracts/pay cuts over the years, yet remained. I can't even remember how many times Deidre and Drake were cut all together. Galen was even placed into a coma for is six months under TomSell, so his contract took a hit too; he stayed as well. It's just the nature of things on soaps. I'm really not interested in either Steve nor Kayla, and they had pretty decent airtime since returning, it makes sense to give it a break for now. I think John and Marlena have the most family on the canvas and since they're a stable vet couple as well, should be the core older couple on the show. Most of the most popular characters on this show in recent years belong to their family tree. The show also needs room to focus on the younger actors and characters who will carry the show in the future.

I still don't understand the rationale behind SN's comments though. KC hates that kind of stuff so the writing was on the wall for him, really.

I think Christopher will do well.  When he was on "Hawaii 5-0" he played the bad guy and it took me a bit to realize Gabriel (I think that was his character's name) was played by the same guy as Paul.  Just shows what writing and directing can do for an actor.  With KM returning and MM, CS, and SN out, I will keep DOOL on the DVR but will probably end up deleting more episodes than I will watch, which makes me sad.

I think he has the a lot of talent and personality to make the transition, but considering how few actors have went from soaps to primetime and got a "stable" and well paying gig, it's a big risk imo. Even the ones who hit primetime typically come back once the show they get falls through. I do wish him the best of luck, but I can really see him returning within a year. Soaps are a pretty steady gig with a guaranteed pay check, they also get a lot of breaks and holidays so it's no wonder why most return. It's also sad to say that he has being a POC against him, so sometimes that limits the roles available for actors, especially somewhere as judgmental as Hollywood where they white wash a lot of roles meant for POC.

I think it makes sense to make the jump now. Will's story can easily be written as trying again with Sonny to rehash the past after Paul exits. It gives him some room to look for other opportunities. I can see Will realizing the relationship isn't the same with Sonny and moving on for now. I don't know if they would recast that soon or simply wait out CS for now (the longer they wait the soapier it will be), but the LGBT scene needs to beefed up now, badly. I do hope if we get a Paul recast at any point, we get another Asian American, Paul was the only one in contract on any of the current soaps, it's important rep and gives another marginalized actor a shot. Essentially we're left with Will and Sonny by default. I do think the show is going to have to bring on someone new for Will in the new year. I think they'll do what they did with Sami and invest in multiple pairings for Will. Since Chandler returned after leaving after his own first four year deal was up, he seems to have both feet firmly planted in the soap world and I can see him being around for a while, since I don't think Will can survive another recast and the show needs the character. Hence, him being brought back from the dead. The long term pair for him may come down to who remains on the show with him, or they may even decide to do what they did with Sami and go a completely different direction- history aside.

Rumor has it that Chandler and Casey, the old Chad, used to be mean to Freddie. So, he had a different vibe with Guy than Chandler.

I think it had more to do with Casey and Freddie not being friends. Freddie was the more serious one in the group, whereas Chandler is not so serious outside of his work, he was always goofing around on set with the younger crowd. Casey is the same and was the ring leader of the group, they were all pretty young too. Freddie was late to the game for that group so it was probably harder for him to integrate when relationships were already established, especially given his difference in personality from them. I think Chandler remained more loyal to Casey, but really what else was he to do, he lived with him and he was his best-friend. I don't think anyone was outwardly "mean" to Freddie per se, it just came down to there already being strong bonds there before he entered the picture.

I think Chandler and Freddie were always just civil enough towards each other. The chemistry was never right with them for a soap couple, soap couples need passion and intensity in their chemistry; something they never had and it has a lot to do with the two actors. Lucas and Sami or Sami and EJ would never have developed such popular fan bases if the actors didn't have good enough chemistry to portray lust and passion (even when the characters were at odds). Will and Sonny feel like a familiar friendship, where you get comfortable so you remain until something better comes along. It's not an "it" soap pairing. As I mentioned before, Chandler holds back but if he's not challenged in a romantic scene it's all downhill from there. I'm happy we got Will and Paul with Chandler, since it shows the difference in the chemistry and that Chandler can, when challenged give as good as he gets in love scenes. He may not be the most comfortable with them, but he's miles a head of Freddie imo.

I think this is a bad move on Days part. Steve and Kayla deserve to have their family around. I would gladly sacrifice Paul for Steve...

There no need sacrifice anyone for anyone else. He had the offer to stay, but he chose not to. It's just simply a very bad business move on Stephen's part to speak against the show like that. Ken is really against that sort of thing, so even if the option was on the table when he posted that on Instagram it was gone the minute TPTB got wind of it. Stephen should know better, he's been around for a while. I get being upset you're getting a lower deal, but it happened to the majority of the vets currently on canvas. You just suck it up and wait until the writer wants to write for you. It's childish imo.

I completely agree.  I have no idea of what's true and what isn't, but I have a feeling Stephen Nichols had just had enough and probably knew what the consequences of speaking out would be.  At this point in his life/career, maybe he's just done with putting up with garbage and saying thank you at the same time.

Corday's "vision", if such it can be called for the show, has been hard to suss out for quite some time.  And while TPTB have the right to do as they please, IMHO, that doesn't make it right.

In every job, you, the employee, know your worth.  If you feel, that the employer, is not willing, to give you the money, that, you feel, is on par with your skills set, you have the right to refuse. It is not being childish.. Stephen has always been the type of person that will speak his mind, he is not a slave.  He spoke out against the shitty storylines that Steve and Kayla got, after their epic wedding, he walked away from the show.  He is lucky that he could do that, but, a lot of people do not have that option. So, I am always happy when somebody can push back on their employer and say, No, thanks! I am good. I did not agree with him doing it in a public manner, but, that was his choice.  Plus, Ken Corday is a vindictive person, look at what he did to Chandler, for making a childish mistake.  Chandler left in tears and was blindsided by his firing..

Ken is awful, that I can definitely agree with. I think SN had every right to refuse a bad deal, but that doesn't mean DAYS had to offer anything better either. All the characters on the show have been back burnt and given reduced contracts over the years, it's the nature of the beast. I just think it created a burnt a bridge with someone who is known to be extremely petty, and doesn't like that behaviour from the actors. I'm not saying he'll never return, since KC has eaten his words in the past (Chandler's firing) but it was a really dumb move imo.

Is Ken corday in charge of contracts? I thought it was sony who seem to be diffcult.

I think Greg Meng and Ken C both control the contracts to an extent. They get a budget from Sony/NBC and talk about where they plan on heading with the show's direction to appeal to the sponsors. It also depends on the writing and how valuable they deem a character/actor at that point in time. For instance with Chandler in 2013, Will was going to be wrote off if Chandler left the role to explore other options(his first four year deal was up, similar to Christopher Sean); this was stated by Ken to the soap press. After Chandler made the mistake of point blank telling a reporter at the Emmy's that he was indeed leaving to go back to school, the show was blindsided a bit even though they knew it was a possibility. If you go back and watch Will's role during the end of Chandler's first run, Will's role was diminished a bit so he wouldn't be heavily involved in story to facilitate an exit. After this slip Greg Meng was pissed and wanted to be petty and wanted the role recast. TomSell also had big plans for Will and wanted the same, so Ken made it happen.

It was a bad move and it set up Guy Wilson to fail as Will. The fans were already out for him.  They should have broken up Wilson to facilitate Chandler leaving and then bring a recast after focusing on Sonny, as a character and giving him depth.

There is a lot of speculation that Arianne's return is a move to escort Greg Vaughn off the show.

If that's true, then with Sparkle leaving, Sami and Belle gone, that will leave John and Marlena with NO children in Salem.

ETA - Except for Brady - I forgot for a second there that he was John's son - much like he does most of the time.

Why can't she excort BRADY off the show instead?

There is also a rumour that Lindsey Godfrey is being cast as Sarah Horton who will play Greg’s new love interest. I’m assuming Nicole is back to wrap up that arc and allow Eric to move on.

They found a recast (GV) who had great chemistry with AZ, and did nothing but write them betraying each other over and over. Makes me mad.

Writers who think "putting them together is the end of the storytelling possibilities" are very limited in their ability to tell stories.

Ron doesn't write happy couples. Essentially there's no "endgame" on DAYS unless both characters are written off together, or the show is cancelled. Eric is pretty important to the canvas now, he's essentially the only Marlena child in Salem. Her step-son Paul will be gone in November, and Brady is pretty much Victor's and Maggie's child at this point. Eric is it. I don't think AZ wants to return long term, so it limits Eric's stories; look at him with Jennifer now. I think AZ finished filming already so it will be interesting to see how they tie everything up since she started filming the end of April, so ~2 months or less.

His Stars Wars gig is only voice over, he could have made it work. He probably just wants to try and break into prime time. He's getting older and after landing SW he figured he should take he risk. It's what all young actors do on soaps, if doesn't make it; he'll be back like countless others.

He's been on Prime Time and done quite well. Watch him on H50. His Gabriel was fantastic. He'll go far.

Now, see, I don't think that.  He wasn't that great on the show.  I was cringing through most of his scenes.  I know he has this voice over gig and that's confusing, too, because he doesn't have a unique enough voice to do that.  I don't see him becoming a break out star.

He'll be out there, trying to get stuff and when that doesn't work out for him, he'll be back.  Most of the young actors that left this show have come back.  Steady check, I guess.  Add his name onto the list.  He'll be back in a year.

Watch H50. See my comments above. He's got talent. A lot of it.

So, basically AZ is returning in the same scenario as JL? Wrap up the misunderstanding about why their character left, then head right back out?  AND SN is out, too?

This is some disappointing shit. Guess I'll be hate-watching for a while, then probably gradually tune out. I hate that.

So apparently Matt Ashford may be *back* back as Jack...hence Sarah Horton for Eric.

Meh.

They going to use the Miracle Elixir excuse for every return now?

Also: Val may be gone. She's filming a movie now and it's unclear if she left the show.

Not gonna lie: If it resurrects Jack, awesome. (Just too bad his brother won't likely be around!) Just too bad he'd be chained to Jenn. Which says a lot because I used to love them as a couple. But *shrug*.

Still, objectively, I agree this elixir thing is ridiculous and too campy.

IMO some of that was on BD, though, cause he spent many years advocating and asking his fans to advocate for that one pairing that made Lucas his most popular that TPTB were obviously done with instead of wanting more for Lucas, both as an individual and with alternative romances. Wasn't until the last few years BD seemed to get that since he was practically begging on social media and in interviews for a story for Lucas when that should have been something he did at least a decade ago to make TPTB see Lucas as more viable and valuable to the show.

And whether it be EJ or Rafe that Days paired Sami with, TPTB were done with Sami & Lucas as a couple a long time ago. Sometimes you just outgrow your first love., which is the case with Sami  It happens. I always thought the show handled their break up similarly to when they finally killed any chance of Roman and Marlena reuniting; both men were going to always carry a torch for their respective ex and they shared kids but both women had long since moved on.

Anywho, I wish BD the best. Days just hasn't been interested in writing for Lucas for a very long time, so in some ways, the only thing I am shocked about despite his years of being backburnered and let go is how finite his tweet reads regarding Lucas' fate. Hopefully BD can find another acting job quickly.

I wonder if Sami's return will involve leaving with Lucas

I doubt it. The show loves Ali/Sami and even though I would love a Lumi HEA and deserved/waited for it for YEARS I can't see it happening. Ali would never allow Sami to end up with Lucas, she's too much about Ejami, sadly.

I think Lucas will be killed. Bryan isn't on a contract so it's not like he can be "fired". So it sounds like he's unhappy with the direction they're taking him and the exit is final. So I'm sure he's dying. Crazy, to think that with Sheri involved again we would lose Lucas. I guess since Lucas's legacy is alive  and on canvas (Will), and his other pairings not being successful they decided to go this route, so sad. I hope they age Allie up and let her live with Will, they need each other at this point. I don't understand why they didn't do this long ago and have Lucas raise her in Salem. SO annoying. This is the hardest exit for me. Sigh.

I agree, it's clear the show was done with Lumi a long time ago. Ali herself advocated for the pairing not to happen and that she felt Sami outgrew Lucas a long time ago. It's funny because they ruined Lumi a while ago and did the same thing, as you mentioned, to Roman and Marlena. It's the same thing the show seems to be doing to Will and Sonny. I'm not a fan of the pair anymore, but they're actively poisoning it at this point (although it was pretty toxic to start with), and with Sonny written badly and portrayed even worse by Freddie, I don't think they can go back to them, much like these pairings. It makes me think it was done to have Will ultimately end up with Paul, again, the direction the show wants to go.

I wonder if they'll write him off with MR. It seems he started filming six weeks ago and it's been reported that he's not a "once" ghostly appearance, but others have said that he's only there for a 13-week cycle. No confirmation beyond a visit at this point. It would add up with KM being brought in to finish Abigail's arc.

Poor William. First Paul leaves (probabaly temporarily dies or exits) and now Lucas probably dies (for good (or until they need him again), since BD seems pissed). I hope this leads Will on a dark path, he's going to be a mess. I guess I now know why Chandler was being saved for the last seven months of the year, seems like a lot of Will involved stories will be happening for here on out.

TV Insider is reporting that they're simply resting the character of Lucas for now. Bryan's tweet makes it seem different though, he sounds pissed. That's easily done right now since Lucas/Bryan is reoccurring, and they control how often he appears; so if they have to write him out then he's most likely being killed off, for now. Ugh.

What bothers me about this, is that Rafe is still here. He is a useless, worthless, waste of space. The show has thrown Carrie, Sami, Kate, Hope and Jordan to make this guy happen. Nevertheless, he remains in the show. Can somebody please explain it to me, like I am Brady..

While I'd rather always have Peter Reckell's version, if he can't/won't return, can we get a good recast of Bo (leave out pervy RKK, please) and bring him back, while we're at it with the "undead serum" bit?

I think he is needed right now. One, for Ciara and two, to help ditch Rafe/Hope. Surely, there must be SOMEONE else that is a good actor who will have chemistry with Kristian Alfonso who can do the role justice?

Again, if it makes Rafe irrelevant, so much the better!
