John J. York (Mac)

What performance on your show do you think was a standout this year?

Haley Pullos (Molly) had some really good stuff when Ric died. I want to give her a shout out.

What's been the highlight of the year for you, storylinewise?

The demise of Mr. Marbles! Ventriloquism is not my cup of tea.

Nice to know that JJY didn't like Mr. Marbles, either. And it's lovely that he mentioned HP.

This made me laugh.

Maurice Benard (Sonny)

What's been the highlight of the year for you, storylinewise?
It's just been consistently good all year!

Great answer, Mr. Contract Negotiations! Maurice has been keeping his head down for two years.

I honestly do not remember Nikolas talking to Emily's ghost.

I thought it was last year, but I guess it was January or February. She was telling him some bullshit about how it was Liz he really wanted to be with and not Britt

ETA: Here it is, for anyone who's curious

Tyler Christopher (Nikolas)
What performance on your show do you think was a standout this year?
I've been liking what Roger Howarth (Franco) has been doing. I'm a big fan of his. I like his approach to the work. Even the simplest stuff. I like to watch him.

Tyler is really trying to kill the remnants of the tween crush I had on him. Stop it, Tyler!!

Meanwhile...

Marc Anthony Samuel (Felix)

What's been the highlight of the year for you, storylinewise?
The resolution of the Brad/Felix/Lucas storyline when the realization hit for Felix what it was that he really wanted. It had nothing to do with being caught up in a triangle. He had that epiphany, no pun intended.

You would think this wouldn't be such a highlight for him considering that was the moment the show basically gave up on Felix.

I still wish, to this day, Felix had found out he was literally about to have his ass canceled on by Lucas and Brad.  But no, had to show what a pure, honest, intact moral code Felix has.  That's why he covers for attempted baby murderers!

Also, I can't believe not one of the cast members mentioned the harrowing exploits of the Crighton-Clark storyline. la di da.

Even Ghost!Emily! ain't exempt from propping duty! Whatever, we all know she's with Zander, ok!?

Well, as long as it's NL's Emily and not Amber's. I hated Zander, and loathed her version of Emily, so I suppose if they're together it's okay :p

I'll take it. ;)

Does the cast even know what happened at the clinic? Like, to put it in words? Heh.

Oh, I remember that now.

I think Tyler is just dazzled by the legend of RH's past work. Howarth was top shit at ABC for many years. He's Franco, get over it.

I do wonder why they turned their back. They clearly didn't give a fuck about Brad for a long time and were ready to throw his development under the bus for St. Fee-Fee and Lucas, and then boom! Stopped dead.

I can see why he finds it to be a character beat, but the problem is it led to Felix doing nothing but resuming his role as Sabrina's black handmaiden and now joining the ranks as yet another recurring, ignored minority player. Shawn makes sandwiches and does Sonny's bidding, T.J. is on a few times every two months, Jordan is at the whims of bigger plots and Felix is Sabrina's talk-to.

It's always nice to have a week's worth of material that you can really sink your teeth into.

(emphasis mine)

Kind of sums everything up. IMO

Help me wish a very happy birthday to @Katehallds AND @ScottCSickles! God must have been handing out great writing skills on this day! #GH

Yeah, and too bad neither of them got any of it.

Oh, that was really good; thanks for posting. Funny, touching and well put together; he did a great job.  Hilarious how he included a clip of First Brad.

I wish KT the best; I liked her.

I liked that clip. I like Parry (Perry?).  Based on those clips, I could have liked Brad, and Brad and Britt's friendship.

But I'm a stickler for characterization. And Bradley was introduced as horrible, soulless individual who was turned on by the idea that Michael Quartermaine might have sex with him while under duress and not attracted to his gender.

He walked into a children's party announcing that he had Felix's balls "right here.".

He mentions the Golden Girls and Knots Landing ad nasuem. [Okay this 3rd one pales in comparison to the other two, but I gotta follow the rule of 3 and, forgive me, it's late and I'm tired]

So, still not gonna like Brad. Never gonna happen.  Sorry Parry/Perry.

I like Kate Hall; she is a decent scriptwriter.

Scott Sickles . . . he's definitely turned in a decent script or two but he too often goes for the easy joke over history/continuity.

I just read Rick Springfield was cast in True Detective.

I can just imagine Ron's reaction.  "First Jon, now Rick.  Stop trying to be like me, critically acclaimed premium cable drama!".

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ed-martin/soap-opera-update-general_b_6312042.html  He never even mentions Spencer! See soap press? It can be done.

You know who else is completely absent from that article?  Franco/Roger Howarth.

ABC's General Hospital and CBS' The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful have been in fine form, each one as engrossing in its own crazy way as anything else on broadcast television

GH is in fine form? Since when? Freak show is more accurate.

Everything else about GH -- for my money the best soap on television right now -- has been on fire, much of it due to the returns of a host of colorful supervillains from the show's past. Many of them are fascinatingly tied to a relatively new character, mad doctor Liesl Obrecht, played to striking perfection by Kathleen Gati (pictured below), who consistently makes the over-the-top doc funny and frightening without allowing her performance to degenerate into ridiculous camp.

Dr. O is ridiculous camp from top to bottom. I don't fault KG for that because I'm sure that's exactly how Ron wants it.

And how about Nancy Lee Grahn as power attorney Alexis Davis and William deVry as semi-reformed mobster Julian Jerome (pictured at top)? Without question they have been the soap opera super-couple of the year. (They are known online as "Julexis.") What makes their work together so extraordinary and their chemistry so profound is the fact that Grahn and deVry aren't kids, as most super couples, especially the sexually combustible ones, tend to be. They are both accomplished soap opera veterans with decades of work behind them. Grahn (a two-time Emmy winner) and deVry make Alexis and Julian more complex and captivating than any other couple in daytime or primetime -- and way sexier, too.

When did Alexis and Julian become a super couple? They're fine but I wouldn't call them all that complex. All they do lately is argue and then Julian throws her up against a wall so they can have sex.

Kathleen Gati is capable of much, much more. Like most actors on this show. The problem is Ron and Frank think they are giving her an endless buffet of glorious material - which I'm sure she enjoys, day to day - when it's really just overheated camp and soppy melodrama. Suddenly Obrecht is the long-suffering mother and lovelorn woman of a certain age, while Anna is a "hypocrite" for trying to rid the world of Faison. Everything is angled towards Obrecht, and that's why it's killing her character. They love so many things on this show to death.

I don't think Daytime Confidential listed the characters in any particular order, but I agree that Levi and Lauren should be at the very top.

This cracked me up:

Unlike, General Hospital, which makes a habit of bringing back actual villains from the past, recent Y&R regimes tend to favor re-writing history with abandon.

The writer of the list must not pay close attention to GH, because we get actual villains from the past AND rewriting history with abandon.

Best Secret: Sonny Killed AJ

This should be who the #$@%@ Fluke is b/c I think the writers have kept it secret even from themselves.

The only person who was kept in the dark about Sonny killing AJ was Michael.

Sonny as BEST "lothario"? For reals? How about best criminal? Best scumbag?

Seriously, does Ron give these people fruit baskets?

Spencer as best new character? On what planet is he the best or new? He's existed for a bit.

And the whole damn town knew about Sonny killing AJ. Only Micheal and the Quartermaines didn't know.

Ron, you lose.

To answer Tiger, ulkis, and anyone else who may have asked, TG has seven Emmys in total, which is the record for actors at the Daytime Emmys (Erika Slezak and Justin Deas are tied for second with six).

2004:

2006 (no clip, I swear there used to be one up... crap)

2008:

And last but not least, 2012:

Whaaaaat? Surely at some point he should've been nominated. He's as good or better than TG. Poor guy (unless he doesn't care that much).

Ian Buchanan has an Emmy, but it's from when he was on B&B, so I can't post it here. ;)

Best Secret: Sonny Killed AJ

Um, it's not a secret when half the town knows before the son of the victim finds out last.  I mean, by the time the truth was out, Sonny, Ava, Shawn, Carly, Franco, Kiki, Morgan, they all knew.

"The only was for a secret to be kept as such is for two people to know, and one of them is dead"  (paraphrased)
