Thanks Jaded .... you're a good woman!!!

That was really nice of Miss Whoopi to talk about the realities of pregnancy & end with saying "you really hurt & it's like passing a bowling ball".  Gawd.  Poor Sarah, who's already having a rough time with her pregnancy, looked like she was going to pass out!!

Sarah really looked miserable on this morning's show, and I'm thinking the pregnancy depression topic came up b/c it's something she was especially dealing with today.  The camera caught her on the verge of tears several times.  It must be especially difficult to put on a happy face when you're thrust into such a public domain by being on camera.

At 38 and pregnant with her first child, I hope for her that she isn't crushed by her depression and that she's able to derive pleasure and a happy anticipation of the changes ahead of her.  Who knows if she'll have another, and it would be sad for her not to enjoy the experience.

I'm pretty indifferent about Sara but I felt bad for her today. She was really struggling to keep it together. At least everyone, except maybe Candace the Chistian, seemed to be very supportive of her. Even Whoopie.

Listen to Joy, Paula, and let the professionals do the comedy bits, because you SUCK at it. And was I supposed to go aww and tee-hee, tee-hee at her throwing the blue cards in the air, getting out of her chair and pretending to leave? I was like, yes, please leave. Please leave.

So, now Paula thinks that Rubio is a good choice, eh? Does she know that he, as a child of immigrants, wants to make sure that exisitng immigrants be deported back to whence they came? I'm sure it's more complicated than that. Or not. Or..never mind. It hurts my head trying to put into words my reaction to what she said. I'm sure some of y'all, who are much more eloquent, can put it into words that make sense.

I did feel bad for Sara today, but Candace's example of how her doctor tells her she can tell him anything beacuse it is doctor/patient confidentiality and it will be okay, was a truly WTF moment for me. Like, what does that have to do with anything? It goes without saying any and all conversations a patient has with their doctor is confidential.

And don't get me started on her uber shock and trauma at being "exposed" to porn at 12; like, where was she? On the set of Full House? Because that's where she spent most of her time when she was 12.

And on a purely shallow note, I didn't get them in order, but at least I got a "So What?" last week and a "Who caaares?" today from Joy.

Like I've said before, I take my small pleasures where I can.

I hope that Candace and the other  kids on Full House were protected from Bob Saget, who is one of the dirtiest comics around, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has a big collection of porn. Maybe that's the porn that she saw when she was twelve. I think Joy even jokingly suggested it. He gives me the creeps.

She said he didn't hold back...that she heard language and many jokes that she shouldn't have.  She was also a little "potty mouth" until she grew up and realized what she was saying.  She said this stuff on The View.

It goes without saying any and all conversations a patient has with their doctor is confidential.

It's supposed to be confidential...but not all doctors have scruples--and their staffs?  That's another story entirely.  It's better to hope things are confidential, but one can never count on it.

Whoopi is back to full blown "don't tweet me cause I don't care" mode. She seems to get these little talks and is better for a day or two, but she can't stop herself from going back to a finger wagging know it all. The panel shuffling and lack of explanation has messed up yet another chance at making this show watchable. They have thrown every personality combo together but it still sucks. Joy has helped but the one constant is Miss Whoopi. Do you think she'll ever really go? The show is still such a mess, lol.

The view...constantly reinventing itself...but unlike Madonna..not doing a good job of it. Just stop and let thingS settle before trying to shift gears.

http://www.chicagono...n-make-it-stop/

When this season started, we had five co-hosts and five contributors to serve as alternates when one of the five co-hosts were unavailable.  During the season, that plan was abandoned and now we have two other female temp co-hosts by the names of Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin that pop up when one of the five co-hosts are not available.  I don't understand why the show doesn't just have four co-hosts sitting at the table especially if the four have interesting point of views.  I guess I just answered my own question because the point of views aren't interesting, though sometimes they can lead to head scratching by the viewer.

Wow, this is exactly what we have been saying.

The issue also is that airhead Sara Haines and Sunny "pop up" even when one of the five co-hosts ARE available. I didn't watch today but read here that airhead Sara Haines was on. Why am I hated so much?

I find there is a big difference on Fridays no matter who is sitting at the table as long as Whoopi is not.  Everyone seems calmer and happier, they finish their thoughts and even laugh.  Thank goodness Miss Whoopi refused to work a five day week this season.

I don't have much hope of her ever leaving either.  She is all about the money and this is probably the easiest money she's made since the EGOT winner made herself the center of Hollywood Squares all those years ago.  Probably easier because she's not producing and she only shows up four hours a week.

Missed the show, but if this is pretty accurate about Whoopi's comments, then WTF

http://www.mediaite.com/online/whoopi-goldberg-issues-a-ruling-on-what-to-call-black-people/

Racism is real and running amok in the Republican party. If you can't identify the victims by color or ethnicity, then you can't address the problem.

I think the headline says it all:  Whoopi Goldberg Issues a Ruling...   because Miss Whoopi can never just speak as much as she "issues rulings"  Love it.

I haven't watched but I find the written transcript of the conversation hilarious.   Every three lines, Haines asks, "So should I call you Black?"   and then the callback to last week when she called Whoopi, "Oprah".  Hahahahaha.

Watching the whoopi show, i mean the view now. Two complaints: why can't they mute Whoopis microphone when other people talk? I dont need her incessant confirmations of other's comments. Blech, indeed. Secondly, why can't the other hosts look at the camera when talking, instead of at Miss Whoopi-- as though they're looking to her for approval? Or maybe look around at the other hosts, as you are taught to do when giving a talk or speech? The host cd look around slowly or to another host, instead of always Miss Know-it-all. Really hating on her today.

Well dammit I did get Whoopi's point. White people are  not typically called French Americans or Turkish Americans or Greek Americans; or if that is said it is not commonly said. I don't hear it a lot... or ever.  I totally  get her point, which slightly scares me for agreeing with her.

Since the ladies discussed the porn subject, I have a question. Why are mainstream movies loaded with naked, head to toe , front and back, full, all the way, NAKED female nudity, but no males? Or if there is a male, it is a token quick shot glimpse and it is an unattractive man who is not well endowed. if and that is IF  there is frontal...  WHY? Why is that?

You're watching the wrong shows ari333!  Off the top of my head, HBO's The Leftovers gave us Justin Theroux  and there was male FF on The Affair (Showtime) as well as Togetherness (HBO)  I'm sure there were more, I remember reading a piece in Vulture about this very subject.

Mostly though I think it's because the industry is male dominated and they would rather see naked women than 'male parts'.

ETA:  I just realized you were talking about movies, not cable TV shows.  But Kevin Bacon agrees with you; he did a tongue in cheek mock PSA calling for more male nudity in films.

I agree. My point is that (white) Caucasian people are not typically given a delineation by country, (as your point touches on) in my experience; and that was where Whoopi was going with her point or that's how I took it. Also there are black people who are not from Africa or have never been there. There are black people who don't live in the U.S.. Im not making my point very well, but I agree with your comment.  Also, not sure how Latinos and or Indians (Native Americans) fit in there. Now I got myself all confused. :-)

But didn't she disagree with Raven early on when Raven insisted on being "American" rather than a hyphenate?

Ever listen to Dr. Drew on "Loveline," or watch his show?  Often when he speaks to a woman (mostly women) with a little-girl voice, he'll ask a question like, "What happened to you when you were nine?"  This is if her voice sounds that young.  Or maybe twelve...or six.  Today we learned that CCB saw some porn (or something she labeled porn) when she was twelve and she can't get the (bad) picture out of her mind.  Dr. Drew?  Any opinion?

I missed that about Raven. Whoopi contradicting herself. oh my.... shocker.. ;-)

So CCB saw what? she didn't say. Some man's twig and berries? She was so shocked and horrified. IF it was some savage horror porn, then I understand. If it was a naked body.... bah.

Right - I think the issue is that people use "African American"  as though it is a synonym for Black, when it's not, not really.

A white person from Africa who comes to America is more "African American"  than Whoopi is, but would never be called that.   A Black person from Jamaica is not "African" anything.

Black is race, American refers to citizenship.  When you put "African" in front of American, it seems like you're saying that's what KIND of American someone is.  Whoopi just wants to be American.   I have heard her call herself Black, or a person of color, but only when race is being discussed.

That is what I was trying to say and you said it better. :-)  Whoopi seems contrary to me in that whatever someone (or Paula) says, she will take the opposing viewpoint just BECAUSE! Like, " It is day."  "NO, Paula (or whoever) it is night dammit and keep your tweets! bc I don't care!"

In Miss Whoopie's defense(WTF??), Whoopie has been saying she doesn't like being called an African American for years. The first time I heard her say it, she said she's never even been to Africa, she's not African she's an American. I think it was before she was on the View. So, she wasn't just being contrary today. At least not about that.

ari~

This stems back historically, and is known as the "one drop rule", i.e. one drop of "black blood" and the person is considered to be black (but really it refers to one black ancestor).  Rather than trying to explain it myself at the risk of botching it badly, I'll just refer you to the following:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/jefferson/mixed/onedrop.html

I found this excerpt especially interesting:

The one-drop rule has long been taken for granted throughout the United States by whites and blacks alike, and the federal courts have taken "judicial notice" of it as being a matter of common knowledge. State courts have generally upheld the one-drop rule, but some have limited the definition to one thirty-second or one-sixteenth or one-eighth black ancestry, or made other limited exceptions for persons with both Indian and black ancestry. Most Americans seem unaware that this definition of blacks is extremely unusual in other countries, perhaps even unique to the United States, and that Americans define no other minority group in a similar way. . . .

Given an emergency situation where life is on the line, I personally don't care what "color" the blood is.

I'm in agreement with the fact that confidentiality can mean nothing with your doctor if his/her staff has a blabbermouth on it. And if you have a friend who is an obstetrical nurse who just offhandedly tells you what celebrity's wife had to have a C section because her herpes was active when she went into labor. Yes, that was told to me.

And although it wasn't porn, I understood what Candace meant about not forgetting the first time she saw pornography. I was at girl scout camp and had never seen an older girl totally naked. I will never forget one of the older counselors who changed in our tent and when I saw pubic hair... I just about fainted. I had absolutely NO idea that happened. So when Candace was telling her story, I immediately flashed back to that day at Girl Scout camp. Candace said she was shocked. So was I!

It wd be awesome if we cd all be seen as just "human", but there is the white privilege backpack that gives white people more positive (unsaid and subconscious ) perks, than people of color ever get. There are different situations where we can celebrate our ethnicity (St. Patricks Day for Irish for example, as well as Black Women in Hollywood to be seen on Oprah's network), and there are times when we need to be in community (9-11), as just people. It's all ok, IMHO.

Whoopi needs to stop yelling about this and ALL topics, like she is the epitome of PC or speaks for all people, be they Black, a mom, a single mom, a pot smoker, an actor, a rich person who is against taxes, etc. She's an EGOT,so why can't she "act" like a moderator?

Native Americans are also determined by a percentage in the blood. I taught at an urban Indian Center for several years, and when payouts came to a specific tribe from the casino money back in the day, they had to have their official papers proving parentage and tribal blood percentage.

But no one caught Joy's faux pas. She reflexively called Idris Elba an "African American." He was born in London, nothing American about him. I only noticed this because I sounded really stupid in England when I was trying to describe someone... started to say African American, then halted, started to say black, wasn't sure if that was offensive, stuttered around while my hosts wondered if I'd had a stroke in the past 30 seconds.

One of the worst stories I ever heard was one of the rags at the time paid Anthony Perkins' staff to draw off an extra vial of blood when he went in to his doctor's office. He/she gave it to the Enquirer, or whoever it was, and they had it tested and ran the story that he had AIDS before he even knew it himself. The most morally bankrupt thing I've ever heard from the tabloid press, and that's saying a lot.

Clearly, I should have stated when it comes to non-celebrities, doctor/patient confidentiality is a given. Or rather, except for celebrities or the famously wealthy.

Personally, I was happy that The Donald didn't win & hopefully last night's caucus will be indicative of things to come.  As far as Cruz is concerned, he's such a nasty piece of work, I'm sure his days are numbered.  But I'm a Canadian, so what do I know??!!!

The Iowa caucus does mean very little. As a recent retiree from the federal government, who worked exclusively with Congress and the WH, it's strange to me that the next nominee would be someone who shut down the govt for 17 days, had employees escorted out of the buildings by armed guards and treated like criminals, threaten them with imprisonment and then criticized employees when govt. work stopped as a result of the shutdown.

I think so much attention has been given to the Donald, very little attention has been given to the actual character of the other Republican Candidates.

It will be interesting to see if the OJ movie is discussed by the panel.
