Jaded January 4, 2016 Share January 4, 2016 Nobody is gone from the opening. Candace and Michelle were in the opening but they aren't on the show today. They have personalized mugs with all of them on it now too. *sighs* 5 Link to comment
Fisher King January 4, 2016 Author Share January 4, 2016 Yeah, the new mugs are the only new thing. Well, Whoopi is treating the Cosby subject as just another topic. All of the previous bias she exhibited has been tempered. Raven's gray wig is so unflattering. I think she is cringing at herself now, but it was too late to change before airtime. 5 Link to comment
Foghorn Leghorn January 4, 2016 Share January 4, 2016 Yes WG sure has changed her tune about Cosby now hasn't she! I know it is an unpopular opinion but I like Sunni Hostin. She can actually bring knowledge to the table and is well spoken. Not surprised to hear Paula say she was voting for Trump. Raven looks terrible but what else is new. Her rolling her eyes up when Paula said that shows her level of maturity..or lack of! 6 Link to comment

Jaded January 4, 2016 Share January 4, 2016 If they hadn't wasted so much time on that stupid cooking segment we may have been able to see the clip of Natalie Cole singing in it's entirety or close to it. It didn't seem like Joy even knew she and Whoopi were supposed to "go against" each other cooking so that ended up like a all to common Spew disaster. Then we had asshat Rocco telling them to hurry up and etc..... 4 Link to comment

TheGreenKnight January 4, 2016 Share January 4, 2016 The Cosby topic was the first time Sunny didn’t get on my nerves. That’s why she should be on CNN and not The View or any other talkshow. What did she say about her holiday? She was DJ Coco or something? Besides her and Raven, it was a pretty good show. I like Sarandon and Dispirito, Whoopi was in a good mood, and they had a good mix of lighter/heavier topics. Too bad we didn’t lose some of the co-hosts, but I had a feeling that was just hopeful wishing on my part anyway. I like that they made a cup with their pictures though; I think it was probably in response to Joy’s comments on the season premiere. 2 Link to comment
Fisher King January 4, 2016 Author Share January 4, 2016 Yes, Natalie deserved better than 3 seconds. I kind of tuned out after Susan Sarandon. Keep up the good fight, Susan! If today is to set the tone for the rest of the season, then I give it a B for barely better. Of course this show doesn't know how to be consistent, except consistently a crap shoot. At least we didn't have to view Stacey London's deal. I didn't hear Paula say she'd vote for Trump but can't say I'm surprised. She might change her mind. I wonder of Trump supporters would be fewer is so many of them weren't Hillary haters. Sunni said she used to be a DJ years ago - DJ Sunni or CoCo (another story), but that now everything's digital. When Joy mentioned the cruise & grandma, I think Raven shouted out to her mother that yes she knows SHE looks like grandma - in that gray hair. 2 Link to comment

There are many nations who don't want to take more in, including the UK, France, Italy, Hungary and now even Germany is admitting that they made a mistake by taking in so many and that their economy can't handle the influx. And according to a Muslim-based aid group in London, a vast majority (83%) are solo men and not families, like Sarandon claimed. And when she said "they're not terrorists", I want to know how she knows that none of these migrants are terrorists? What funny is, so many celebrities are lecturing us on this issue, but I have yet to see one of them open their homes to a migrant family. I missed the Sarandon interview so I don't know if she was addressing Syrian refugees or the "migrants" you describe, which are two very distinct issues. If the subject was Syrian refugees, then the "vast majority" being single adult males is grossly misleading given that nearly 70 percent of refugees referred for resettlement on US soil are women and children twelve and under. http://www.factcheck.org/2015/11/facts-about-the-syrian-refugees/ As for celebrities opening their homes to "migrants," surely their numbers can't be any worse than the numbers of isolationist RWNJs offering room and board to all those homeless, mentally ill veterans that are suddenly of such great concern on my Twitter and Facebook feeds. 15 Link to comment

If you look at the "migrant camps" in Calais, France, most are inhabited by men, not families. It's men who are jumping on lorries that are headed into the UK via the Chunnel. Link to comment

maggiemae January 4, 2016 Share January 4, 2016 A couple of hours ago I watched the show and then read some comments......had turned the channel to CNN and they were showing a bombed out Ramadi. Nothing there.....no homes, no commerce, no infrastructure. I would not want to keep my family in a war-torn country where there is no life, only death, and my family sons being used for entertainment, or stolen to serve, or the kids used as human shields etc. Sarandon went to Greece alone, and was not repping any organization. Opening one's home to refugees is not the only way to help, imo. She even said she has a list of ways to help on her FB. I've not heard about the term migrant used in the USA and have looked into immigrants, illegal immigrants, and refugees. 3 very different things. Refugees are here legally. It seems that unlike us, countries freely opened their borders to all. With the close proximity of the ME areas and Europe it became a rapid problem due to the humanitarian crisis. 13 Link to comment

Opening one's home to refugees is not the only way to help, imo. She even said she has a list of ways to help on her FB. Yes, she was very emphatic about that also. And I agree - There are certainly other ways to help, and she's doing far more than the vast majority of people. I admire her for what she did and what she continues to do. I thought her segment was fascinating and compelling, and I wish we would see more of that kind of thing on The View. 17 Link to comment

Paula can say she will vote for Trump NOW, which will go out the window when he withdraws from the race, to save face, because I really, truly do not believe he will be the chosen Republican candiidate. And--as Dissy noted, Paula, "overhearing" someone on the train--right, B.S., big time, as soon as I heard it. It's either made up, or an assistant to an assistant heard it, and as we all know, the telephone game bungles conversation up immensely. Please, Paula, don't stoop to Bitsy's level. Raven's wig matching her blouse was not attractive. She brings nothing to the table, particularly while reading stats. Yawn. Whoopi disgusts as usual, amen-ing after every word Sunni was saying about Cosby, like she already knew. Bleck. My mother-in-law would do that in company. She was really fast about agreeing to someone who sounded like they knew what they were talking about, as though she already knew. Yuck. Shut up Whoopi. Your stuck your foot in your mouth about Cosby already and it still stinks, and we remember. Sunni sounded authoritative, however, she talks about herself too much. Today, it was being a DJ in college. Yeah, sure, for how long? I have been jaded cuz so many celebrities claim authorship, and experience for very little time put in to whatever it is. Plus, Sunni talked to her father!!!!! Wow, I'm impressed. Not. The cooking thing was disorganized, and I kept trying to glean any REAL information from it about zero calories, but couldn't find it, and refuse to re-watch it. I'll browse the book at Barnes and Noble. Joy was fine, although I didn't care that she forgot a swimsuit. Lord in Heaven, is that what TV has come to? I'm done. Popular Post Cosmocrush January 5, 2016 Popular Post Share January 5, 2016 (edited) While I'm not a Sunny fan, at all, I didn't hate that there was someone with a law degree at the table for this topic. Of course I had to mostly listen rather than watch because Whoopi's stupid knit cap was distracting me from everything. What people have to realize is that people like Sarandon are highly paid by whatever organization they represent. She really angered me when she said that the US is the only country who doesn't want to take in these migrants, and that's blatantly false. And when she said "they're not terrorists", I want to know how she knows that none of these migrants are terrorists? What funny is, so many celebrities are lecturing us on this issue, but I have yet to see one of them open their homes to a migrant family. As several other posters have mentioned, Sarandon explicitly noted that she went to Greece on her own. While she does work with (not for) several human rights organizations/NGOs she's one celebrity that walks her talk in my opinion. Go Susan! Other posters have already noted she also said not one person she talked to said they wanted to come to the United States, in response to someone asking the ridiculous question about 'terrorists' trying to get into the US via a refugee status and she answered, "No one is trying to come to New York." This piece of information stuck out to me because when she said that my heart broke for my country. A country which used to be a beacon of freedom for the world but is currently being broadcast on cable news as a hateful, racist place thanks in no small part to the mainstream media who seems to be obsessed with that windbag wearing a weave. And far as the argument for actually banning an entire religion from the US on the off chance that a terrorist exists among the FOUR MILLION people who have fled Syria (Seven million if you count Iraq, Iranian, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the other nations Sarandon noted) I have more faith in our intelligence community than that. We will never know how many terrorist attacks they have already stopped. And really statistically, the odds that the next mass attack in this country won't be at the hands of a terrorist who came into the US as a refugess but rather by some fellow American with access to an AK47 who will shoot up a movie theatre or college campus or even yes, a first grade classroom. I find that far more terrifying than a young Syrian family trying to find a place for their children to grow up. Personally, I'll take my chances helping people including mothers with their small children, whose homes/families/way of life have been completely destroyed rather than freak out over the possibility of a terrorist attack, I want to believe in my country again. Because for me, as Susan noted, it's a moral issue - not a political issue. ETA: If you are still reading, I'm sorry for the rant. Just the fact that this table of constant interrupters actually let Susan Sarandon speak uninterrupted was amazing. And I guess she got me fired up. It's always an amazement when a guest goes uninterrupted--and it's so rare on this show, too. I know people feel condescended to whenever celebrities give their opinion on causes, but they do have a right to give their opinion just like anyone else. And there's no denying their celebrity does mean they can create just a little more influence than the average person (usually), so props to Sarandon and Moore, among others both famous and unknown. Not everything is about political spin or ego; sometimes good intentions are genuine. Joy's story was a bit odd. How is it possible to forget a bathing suit for that kind of vacation? I wonder if that's true or she felt a little insecure and didn't want to wear one, then had to explain it somehow when talking about her vacation on the show. Paula saying "I overheard..." was dense. I've heard Republicans who will vote for Hillary, too. There are all kinds of kinds, Paula, what does that have to do with anything? She seemed subdued today, actually. I guess none the stops in the Bahamas had a swim shop either. So really not so Bitsyesque because there was no point to it except maybe a failed attempt at a joke? But Paula's story was lame and here's why: First, If I am having a conversation with another Democrat then I really don't need to announce my political affiliation because ostensibly we know each other and if we are talking politics they know I'm a Democrat. Secondly. does Paula think that means Democrats are supporting Trump en masse? So yes, Bitsyesque because she could have just said, "I think there are Trump supporters who used to be Democrats." and skipped the story. 6 Link to comment

Maybe because Candace wasn't there for back-up? Well, let me tell you - It is possible to forget a bathing suit for that kind of vacation. I did. I went on a beach vacation once, and didn't bring a bathing suit, so to me it was believable. This was a few years ago, and I still can't get over how stupid I was. I'm a very organized person, and I have no idea how I made such a dumb mistake. I would never go on vacation and not bring at least a few, but that time I didn't bring any. It baffles me to this day. But it happened. I don't think she felt insecure and needed a way to explain it on the show. She easily could have provided a photo of them having dinner or doing something else, and I think that's what she would have done if she didn't have the bathing suit story to tell. I think it really happened, and she shared it because she thought it was funny. I kind of thought it was funny when it happened to me too. Although I wasn't thrilled at having to swim in shorts and a t-shirt. :-/ As for Paula, I didn't understand the point she was trying to make. A couple of random Democrats are talking about voting for Trump? So what? They're not the only ones, and here's a news flash: Some Republicans are planning to cross party lines too, and lots of people will change their minds between now and Election Day. So why was that even worth mentioning? With the long break they just had, she had nothing more substantial to say? I thought she was smarter than that. I'm fine with what Raven wears or how she does her hair, even if it's often a miss rather than a hit for me. I wouldn't notice or care what Raven wore or how she did her hair if she added anything - anything at all! - to this show. I agree - "constant disdain" and "childish retorts". She is incredibly ignorant and immature, and clearly thinks she's better and more in the know than everyone else when it's actually quite the opposite. I really dislike her because of that. I also don't like the attention-getting things she does with her appearance, but I could overlook that in favor of her better qualities. If she had any. Started reading from the bottom and wondered when Sherri (same initials as Susan!) had spoken to refugees (as well as why she was back after saying she had too much stuff going on) 3 Link to comment
Celia Rubenstein January 5, 2016 Share January 5, 2016 When Joy mentioned the cruise & grandma, I think Raven shouted out to her mother that yes she knows SHE looks like grandma - in that gray hair. I was wondering how long it would take Raven to mention her mother for the first time in 2016. It took about three minutes. That girl never disappoints. Did anyone notice a sizable amount of applause from the audience when SS said the refugees she spoke to didn't want to come to USA? If I was in that audience I would've felt so sad about the lack of compassion. I noticed that applause, too. I wondered what it meant for a moment, then I told myself it must be the sound of people acknowledging that Susan Sarandon was right - that far from being budding terrorists who are all scheming to get into the US just to make trouble, these refugees don't really want to come to the US at all. But you are probably right. That applause was more likely the sound of people being shamelessly callous and snide. I guess I am still living in my little Happy Holidays bubble over here. Time to snap out of it, I guess. 6 Link to comment
ChicagoCita January 5, 2016 Share January 5, 2016 (edited) Brandon from Humans of New York was on a CNN show with Aya, a refugee with a heart-breaking story whose cause HONY is championing. He said that there are millions of refugees and that the U.S. is taking in 10,000. He visited camps in Turkey and spoke to many of them. The thing that he said that really got to me is that the U.S. has the luxury of picking and choosing, and the ones we are opening our doors to either have (a) a Ph.D. or (b) a horrible physical handicap. I applaud Susan Sarandon for her compassion. Yesterday's show was good, in no small part to Whoopi being in a good mood. I would tune in happily if that Whoopi showed up every day instead of grouchy, finger-shaking, lecturing, bullying, misanthropic Whoopi. I'm afraid to watch today!
