Getting past the derogatory comments made by former pageant owner Donald Trump, the show returns to commercial network television on Fox. TV host & comedian Steve Harvey hosts the annual live contest from the Axis Theatre at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This was seriously the GREATEST ENDING OF ANY SHOW EVER.  I was kind of wondering why Colombia was just standing there.  And then Steve Harvey was like "Um...so...I fucked up, Philippines won" and she's like "WHAAAAAAA?!"  He shows the card and it...ends right there.  At least the right person eventually won but jeez.

Edit because I too cannot spell Colombia.

Steve Harvey's can kiss his career as a TV Host bye-bye after that fuckup.

The only reason I wish Trump still owned the pageant would be for him to have sailed down after that screw-up to tell him, "You're FIRED!!"

Gotta say, though, I was pulling for Philippines to win as she had that "It" factor in spades, along with a sweetness to her that the others were lacking….I was also a bit "huh?" at Miss USA placing 2nd runner up, given that her answer to the final question had far more depth and intelligence than Colombia's shallow "I should win because I have all the attributes of a Latin woman…"

That would have been gold.

Man, did Steve fuck up big time.  Guess he won't be hosting anymore beauty pageants.  I loved the way he just slinked off the stage.  I thought the ending was AWESOME!

I switch the channel during the question segment on these beauty pageants because the answers are usually too painful to listen to.  However, minus the question business, I was rooting for Miss Philippines so I was bummed when Miss Columbia "won."  I was wondering why she was just standing there, waving, and didn't take her victory walk.  Then Steve comes out looking like a wet dog with his tail between his legs.  I felt sorry for both ladies.

Miss Japan was interesting but I kept yelling at her to SMILE!

Yup, he'll be back to his daytime show and Family Feud, but I don't see him doing any more prime time hosting gigs.

Wouldn't you have liked to been a fly on the wall in Bob Barker's home - or in the Trump penthouse?  Assuming Trump even bothered to watch....

Assuming Trump even bothered to watch....

Even if he wasn't watching, you know this was going to be on his radar and he'll be boasting that would never would have happened on his watch.

I'm just waiting for this to happen now "Name someone who was a full on dumbass on TV."  "That would be you Steve."  (Number 1 answer.)  And i bet SNL wished they had a new show on the 26th just for Kenan Thompson to mock this to high heaven.

As awkward as all this was, this is going viral and I think Colombia is going come out of this as a winner regardless.  I did enjoy her eye rolling when the interpreter constantly interrupted when she was trying to give her final responses.

I missed most of this (including costumes, my favorite part) except for the ending, which was the best.

It looked liked Miss Colombia didn't even know what was happening.

I doubt Steve will be losing any jobs over this. He probably just won't be hosting anything that's live.

I didn't even know about the winner announcement error until I read my Twitter feed a little while ago. I changed the channel after Steve said Miss Colombia won (& repeated from her predecessor at the last pageant), as I figured it was over.

I'm sorry for Miss Colombia--but, as said upthread, she'll probably come out a winner in all this, somehow, anyway. If nothing else, she'll at least be the answer to a trivia question, like "Who was the only person to lose the Miss Universe crown due to an error in announcing the winner?".

I'm sorry for Steve Harvey too. I don't watch his talk show, but I do watch him on Family Feud whenever I can find it on a local channel or GSN & nothing else I like is on. I think he's good at most of what he does (he won an Emmy at this year's Daytime Emmy Awards for his talk show, & was also nominated for hosting Family Feud), I think he has a good heart, & he made an honest mistake. And he's taking a beating on social media right now--at least on Twitter.

At least I don't think Miss Colombia/whomever's behind the Colombian pageant can sue because she was named & then dethroned 5 minutes later because Steve Harvey apparently didn't have enough rehearsal reading a mock winner's card before doing the live pageant (& yeah, in the heat of the moment, the way that card is/was structured could be confusing... especially to someone who's never hosted a pageant before, which I don't think Steve had, though I think he's previously successfully hosted other live TV shows).

Truth be told, since I'm half-Filipina & half-American, I was rooting for anybody in the F3 but Miss Colombia. So, while I'd still like Miss USA to have been 1st runner-up/2nd place (if she couldn't have won), & to have had the 2 countries of my heritage finish 1 & 2, I'm also happy Miss Philippines actually took the crown.

Miss Colombia handled it better than I would have. I'd be all, "Oh HELL no, you're not getting this crown back, so back the F up."

I too felt bad for Steve Harvey. "Don't blame the ladies", he says? I doubt anyone is, but that kind of chivalry tells me he's good people.

It stinks for her, but why would she have the right to sue?  She didn't win and then get dethroned.  She was never the winner in the first place.  The host just read the card wrong.  So she didn't "lose" anything, except maybe her pride.

I didn't watch the show, but saw the headline, so watched the video to see if it was as bad as it sounded.  And it was so much worse -- which means, as you say, "GREATEST ENDING OF ANY SHOW EVER".  It is not just the mistake, and not just that the wrong contestant kept waving to the audience while he was saying, "there's been a mistake, there's been a mistake".  It was that they did not pull her back out of the runway and spotlights to tell her what had happened, nor did anyone really tell Miss Philippines what had happened, and she was right frozen.  "Where am I supposed to go?" her look said, as the other contestants waved her to the runway.  Did they all even understand English well enough to comprehend what he was saying?  Again, why not pull them back to the main stage for fifteen seconds rather than keep the circus of his mistake cost them their moments?  Yikes.  No, he will not have this gig again!

Wow, that was the most fucked up ending ever. I was wondering why no one was coming forward to congratulate Miss Colombia. She was just standing awkwardly on her own before Steve came back on stage to announce the mistake.

I saw the card, but didn't think it was that confusing. The two runners-up were in small print on the left and the winner was in large print on the right. Was there some sort of discrepancy between the card and the teleprompter?

Was that a ratings stunt? I mean, this is FOX we're talking about, so I could believe almost anything that happens is pre-planned and done in the name of ratings. Plus I don't want to believe Steve Harvey is that much of a dumbass...

LOLS!!! Yes, I know I'm terrible.

But, seriously Miss Colombia will get more publicity than any first runner-up in history & SH will go home & cry into his millions of dollars.

On a more serious note: Did anyone see the poor contestant who had a stroke during rehearsals? Half the poor girl's face is paralyzed! I cried when they let her walk. And there was some nutjob who plowed her car into a crowd of people in front of the hotel that was hosting the Miss Universe pageant. SH made an honest mistake on live tv in front of millions of people. Embarrassing. Awkward. But not the end of the world.

I heard about this on the news this morning and if it hadn't been for the error, I wouldn't have known there was a pageant.  What exactly does Miss Universe win?  A crown and some cash and a few minutes on a TV show few people watch?  Does she spend her reign at Trump for President events?

Oh, and, given that Steve Harvey misspelled both Colombia and the Philippines in his initial apology tweet, he really should take a seat now.

Donald Trump is no longer associated with Miss Universe, although I just KNOW he'll use this opportunity to say that NOTHING like this would've happened under his watch. He simply can't help himself from doing that.

To be fair, there are many other countries outside of the US that actually take stuff like this EXTREMELY seriously, and Colombia and the Philippines, from what I've heard, are two of the countries that take it more seriously than most, which makes this mistake even worse than it already is--I watched the clip; there was BOOING going on; at first I thought it was at Steve and/or the MUO for what happened, and maybe some of it was, but a lot of it was apparently from pissed off Colombians at poor Miss Philippines, who did nothing wrong. I saw in the comments section in an article about this that a friend of theirs at the pageant found out that there were fights breaking out between Colombians and Filipinos at Planet Hollywood (which is both horrible and hilarious at the exact same time).

Trump was on the Today show (for a network who publicly distanced themselves from, he still shows up there on a monthly basis!) and suggested that they be co-winners.

I saw the now former Miss Universe with the current Miss USA on a recent interview (they're roommates) and she said that the current owners are a lot easier to deal with than Trump.  As to what she physically won last year...a lot of stuff.

I disagree with Trump's statement that they be co-winners. Miss Philippines earned the title and shouldn't have to share it because Steve fucked up. Nor should she be made to feel guilty for not doing so. Leave it to Trump to make a bad situation even worse.

Miss USA seemed to really be in love with her awesomeness---she could barely even hold in her sadness over getting named 2nd Runner Up---in fact, in all my years of televised pageant-watching, I've never seen a contestant on these pageants look so damned disappointed to get a runner-up spot. I felt bad for her since she seemed like she thought she was a winner from the get-go.

She was gorgeous and had some good answers and great poise though, so I couldn't believe Miss Columbia won over her---maybe the whole "contestants voting for their picks too" thing had something to do with that?

Poor Miss Columbia. How dreadfully awkward. And poor Miss Phillipines for not having a true pageant walk and celebration.

And Steve Harvey just sucks.

I'll bet it wasn't a prompter error. They just didn't rehearse enough, didn't put in the required due diligence to make sure their first-time host wouldn't F it up. This kind of thing seems to be more common these days compared to 20 years ago, as is "searching for something or someone to blame"

I'd like to think that's what "Miss Phillipians" was referring to in the above clip where she says "This is so 2015"

This thing is so embarrassing I can't even watch the clip. And I don't care about beauty pagents or Steve Harvey. I've only read about it. But you just know The Soup would have had Mankini crowned over Lou or the cheerleader girl, and it would have been funny.

Sniff. I may need to find a program to deal with the end of The Soup.

I must be one of the most cynical, suspicious persons around here--because I say STUNT! How many times has Steve Harvey's name, Miss Universe, the winner, especially the loser, and of course, Mr. Donald Trump been mentioned in print, videos, tweets, posts, and around the water cooler. Winner for all. They'll be riding this train for quite awhile. JMO

I genuinely don't think so. Like I said above, a lot of countries outside of the US take this VERY seriously, and would probably have Steve Harvey's and/or the MUO's head for something like that, and in any case, that would be just plain CRUEL to do that to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines. The former was in TEARS from some of the pictures seen of her once the show was off the air, and they robbed the latter of her first walk. Plus, I would think rigging something like this would be on the level of those quiz show scandals in the 50's: serious business that you just don't mess with AT ALL.

According to this linked article from yesterday, from Entertainment Tonight's website via CBS News, the winner's name WASN'T on the prompter, because they didn't want the girls seeing it before the actual announcement; the stage manager apparently knew the winner's name but it's not known if they told Steve; & Steve was at the beginning of rehearsal, but not the last hour or so, & didn't actually do a run-through of how to announce the winner/runners-up in the live show (but other sources have also said it is difficult to rehearse the part with the winner/runners-up announcement because you--obviously--don't have the actual names & you either just have to say the final positions with no names after, or you just have to fill in the blanks with names that may or may not be the real ones come show time & you don't know which is which yet).

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/et-source-steve-harvey-missed-end-of-miss-universe-rehearsals/

Also, TVLine says Miss Universe execs say the error in announcing the winner wasn't, in any way, a publicity stunt, & also Steve Harvey is "absolutely" welcome to host the pageant again in 2016, if he wants--& people say he probably would like another shot, to "redeem" himself because he feels so badly about the mistake he made in naming this year's winner.

Years ago the company I worked for was associated with the Miss America pageant so we grunts got to go and watch rehearsals.  The day I went they were rehearsing the Top 10 selection, and the host has a list of 10 names that he kept saying were randomly selected and in no way representative of who was actually in the top 10.

I hope Steve Harvey gets another chance.  Everyone makes mistakes.  Even the granddaddy of all awards shows, The Oscars, gave John Travolta another shot after his "Adele Dazeem" debacle.  Although he proceeded to muck it up the following year by acting even weirder and repeatedly touching Adele Dazeem's face.  I'm curious to see if he gets a third chance.

But I'm confident Steve Harvey would do well with his second chance.  I think he's hilarious on Family Feud, particularly when the contestant gives a family-inappropriate answer.

Towards the end of this article, it says a Colombian law firm is planning to sue the pageant over the winner announcement debacle--just as I wondered here on Sunday night/Monday if that might be tried.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2015/12/22/pageantgate-still-pumping-out-outrage-derision-and-talk-of-plots/77746932/

Despite at least 1 report elsewhere, linked in my previous post, E! Entertainment Television says Steve attended every one of his pageant rehearsals IN FULL.

http://m.eonline.com/news/726042/steve-harvey-attended-every-one-of-his-rehearsals-from-start-to-finish-despite-miss-universe-blunder

After initially stating, yesterday, that (the half-German) Miss Philippines shouldn't have won Miss Universe & that none of the contestants who placed out of the Top 15 voted for her to win, Miss Germany (who was among the also-rans)--or at least her pageant organization--issued an apology for those comments to the new Miss Universe today.

A family member watched this live and gave me the details as it hit social media. I think that it is hilarious and am still laughing. No one died after all. Besides this is going to increase all their public profiles. Some other pageant or award show will hire Steve Harvey knowing that the ratings will be sky high as people watch to see if he screws up again. Instead of fading into oblivion, Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines will get tons of publicity and invited to participate in events they would never would have if it didn't happen. We will see them on Dancing with the Stars and/or other reality shows.

I missed the original airing and watched the replay on the Spanish language channel which was a couple hours behind the live version. I think it's ridiculous that Miss Colombia (or her organisation) is going to sue.  I get that this contest is taken very seriously in Latin America and other parts of the world, but still.  What exactly is her claim going to be?  What exactly did she "lose"?  She was accidentally named the winner for a few minutes.  She had the crown on her head and got the "big" flower arrangement.  But it was a mistake, so the prizes were awarded to the actual winner.

I don't see any grounds for a lawsuit.  If she sues for "emotional distress", I hope a judge tosses it out so quickly and fines them.  It's not the result was due to fraud or conspiracy.  It was simply the matter of the man reading the wrong name.

This pageant is a really big deal in Latin America...strange, but true. It gets huge ratings and is watched as avidly as a sporting match.

That said, it was hilarious to watch Harvey botch it so completely. I loathe the guy since he made public statements after the Michael Vick arrest, defending Vick since his torture of dogs didn't matter, since they were "just dogs"

Vick has since redeemed himself, and done good work with animal organizations, but Harvey is still a major douche.

That his tweets, since deleted, misspelled both Colombia and the Philippines, only amused me further.

Harvey, your failure was a pleasure to watch, and demonstrating that you are semi-literate, a bonus.

What I find hilarious is: that attempted insult is actually a compliment to Miss Philippines! If "none" of the other girls voted for her, then she won by an even greater margin based on the votes from the judges! Talk about a hater being your motivator....

One of the judges, Perez Hilton was brutally honest about why Miss Colombia lost. He says she came across as arrogant during the q&a portion of the show. I hate I missed that part. Soo much juicy drama! Next year I'm watching from beginning to end!

Slightly off-topic for this specific pageant, but my bestie & I often jokingly say "South America is where they grow the beauty queens!" I mean, between Venezuela, Colombia & Brazil---at least 2 of those countries make top 15 every year. Here's an interesting article about the culture of beauty pageants in Venezuela:

Inside Venezuelan 'beauty factories' where girls go to become Miss World | Daily Mail Online

The article talks about how some girls as young as 12 start on the pageant circuit with plastic surgery & extreme dieting hoping to lift their families out of poverty.
