BW Manilowe December 21, 2015 Share December 21, 2015 Getting past the derogatory comments made by former pageant owner Donald Trump, the show returns to commercial network television on Fox. TV host & comedian Steve Harvey hosts the annual live contest from the Axis Theatre at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Link to comment
mtlchick December 21, 2015 Share December 21, 2015 (edited) This was seriously the GREATEST ENDING OF ANY SHOW EVER. I was kind of wondering why Colombia was just standing there. OriginalCyn December 21, 2015 Share December 21, 2015 Steve Harvey's can kiss his career as a TV Host bye-bye after that fuckup. The only reason I wish Trump still owned the pageant would be for him to have sailed down after that screw-up to tell him, "You're FIRED!!" Gotta say, though, I was pulling for Philippines to win as she had that "It" factor in spades, along with a sweetness to her that the others were lacking….I was also a bit "huh?" at Miss USA placing 2nd runner up, given that her answer to the final question had far more depth and intelligence than Colombia's shallow "I should win because I have all the attributes of a Latin woman…" 3 Link to comment
Ohwell December 21, 2015 Share December 21, 2015 The only reason I wish Trump still owned the pageant would be for him to have sailed down after that screw-up to tell him, "You're FIRED!!" That would have been gold. Man, did Steve fuck up big time. Guess he won't be hosting anymore beauty pageants. I loved the way he just slinked off the stage. I thought the ending was AWESOME! I switch the channel during the question segment on these beauty pageants because the answers are usually too painful to listen to. However, minus the question business, I was rooting for Miss Philippines so I was bummed when Miss Columbia "won." I was wondering why she was just standing there, waving, and didn't take her victory walk. Then Steve comes out looking like a wet dog with his tail between his legs. I felt sorry for both ladies. Miss Japan was interesting but I kept yelling at her to SMILE! 1 Link to comment

Even if he wasn't watching, you know this was going to be on his radar and he'll be boasting that would never would have happened on his watch. I'm just waiting for this to happen now "Name someone who was a full on dumbass on TV." "That would be you Steve." (Number 1 answer.) And i bet SNL wished they had a new show on the 26th just for Kenan Thompson to mock this to high heaven. As awkward as all this was, this is going viral and I think Colombia is going come out of this as a winner regardless. I did enjoy her eye rolling when the interpreter constantly interrupted when she was trying to give her final responses. 1 Link to comment
Chrissytd December 21, 2015 Share December 21, 2015 I missed most of this (including costumes, my favorite part) except for the ending, which was the best. BW Manilowe December 21, 2015 Author Share December 21, 2015 (edited) I didn't even know about the winner announcement error until I read my Twitter feed a little while ago. I changed the channel after Steve said Miss Colombia won (& repeated from her predecessor at the last pageant), as I figured it was over. I'm sorry for Miss Colombia--but, as said upthread, she'll probably come out a winner in all this, somehow, anyway. If nothing else, she'll at least be the answer to a trivia question, like "Who was the only person to lose the Miss Universe crown due to an error in announcing the winner?". I'm sorry for Steve Harvey too. I don't watch his talk show, but I do watch him on Family Feud whenever I can find it on a local channel or GSN & nothing else I like is on. I think he's good at most of what he does (he won an Emmy at this year's Daytime Emmy Awards for his talk show, & was also nominated for hosting Family Feud), I think he has a good heart, & he made an honest mistake. And he's taking a beating on social media right now--at least on Twitter. At least I don't think Miss Colombia/whomever's behind the Colombian pageant can sue because she was named & then dethroned 5 minutes later because Steve Harvey apparently didn't have enough rehearsal reading a mock winner's card before doing the live pageant (& yeah, in the heat of the moment, the way that card is/was structured could be confusing... especially to someone who's never hosted a pageant before, which I don't think Steve had, though I think he's previously successfully hosted other live TV shows). Truth be told, since I'm half-Filipina & half-American, I was rooting for anybody in the F3 but Miss Colombia. So, while I'd still like Miss USA to have been 1st runner-up/2nd place (if she couldn't have won), & to have had the 2 countries of my heritage finish 1 & 2, I'm also happy Miss Philippines actually took the crown. I didn't watch the show, but saw the headline, so watched the video to see if it was as bad as it sounded. And it was so much worse -- which means, as you say, "GREATEST ENDING OF ANY SHOW EVER". It is not just the mistake, and not just that the wrong contestant kept waving to the audience while he was saying, "there's been a mistake, there's been a mistake". It was that they did not pull her back out of the runway and spotlights to tell her what had happened, nor did anyone really tell Miss Philippines what had happened, and she was right frozen. "Where am I supposed to go?" her look said, as the other contestants waved her to the runway. Did they all even understand English well enough to comprehend what he was saying? Again, why not pull them back to the main stage for fifteen seconds rather than keep the circus of his mistake cost them their moments? Yikes. No, he will not have this gig again! 2 Link to comment
BitterApple December 21, 2015 Share December 21, 2015 Wow, that was the most fucked up ending ever. I was wondering why no one was coming forward to congratulate Miss Colombia. She was just standing awkwardly on her own before Steve came back on stage to announce the mistake. I saw the card, but didn't think it was that confusing. The two runners-up were in small print on the left and the winner was in large print on the right. Was there some sort of discrepancy between the card and the teleprompter? 1 Link to comment

Miss USA seemed to really be in love with her awesomeness---she could barely even hold in her sadness over getting named 2nd Runner Up---in fact, in all my years of televised pageant-watching, I've never seen a contestant on these pageants look so damned disappointed to get a runner-up spot. I felt bad for her since she seemed like she thought she was a winner from the get-go. She was gorgeous and had some good answers and great poise though, so I couldn't believe Miss Columbia won over her---maybe the whole "contestants voting for their picks too" thing had something to do with that? blackwing December 22, 2015 Share December 22, 2015 Years ago the company I worked for was associated with the Miss America pageant so we grunts got to go and watch rehearsals. The day I went they were rehearsing the Top 10 selection, and the host has a list of 10 names that he kept saying were randomly selected and in no way representative of who was actually in the top 10. I hope Steve Harvey gets another chance. Everyone makes mistakes. Even the granddaddy of all awards shows, The Oscars, gave John Travolta another shot after his "Adele Dazeem" debacle. Although he proceeded to muck it up the following year by acting even weirder and repeatedly touching Adele Dazeem's face. I'm curious to see if he gets a third chance. But I'm confident Steve Harvey would do well with his second chance. I think he's hilarious on Family Feud, particularly when the contestant gives a family-inappropriate answer. 2 Link to comment

blackwing December 22, 2015 Share December 22, 2015 I think it's ridiculous that Miss Colombia (or her organisation) is going to sue. I get that this contest is taken very seriously in Latin America and other parts of the world, but still. What exactly is her claim going to be? What exactly did she "lose"? She was accidentally named the winner for a few minutes. She had the crown on her head and got the "big" flower arrangement. But it was a mistake, so the prizes were awarded to the actual winner. I don't see any grounds for a lawsuit. If she sues for "emotional distress", I hope a judge tosses it out so quickly and fines them. It's not the result was due to fraud or conspiracy. It was simply the matter of the man reading the wrong name. 6 Link to comment

I loathe the guy since he made public statements after the Michael Vick arrest, defending Vick since his torture of dogs didn't matter, since they were "just dogs" Vick has since redeemed himself, and done good work with animal organizations, but Harvey is still a major douche.
