Leon Brown: So Here's Me

Leon is transgender and uses they/them pronouns. As defined in the GLAAD guidelines, they are a they, were a they, and will be a they unless they ever tell us something different.  Per those guidelines, referring to them as a woman or a girl or as she is not okay, regardless of any modifier placed before these words or the time period being discussed.  Referring to them by any name besides "Leon" or "Leo" is not appropriate, regardless of the time period being discussed. Intent matters and people may slip up. Let's strive to respect their identity.

Why does she think this mundane detail is worthy of a post?  Next we'll be hearing about her buying toilet paper at her local market.

I think that Mariah is trying to impress whomever with the fact that she made her coffee using a French Press. I cannot not believe how sophisticated she has become....?

Next post we can expect to see photos of the Organic Fair Trade Coffee beans she has specifically roasted and ground to her cultivated palate.  Purchased at her fave Chi-town Bean Boutique.

She comes off like a prototypical hillbilly rube who was determined to reinvent herself in the big city. Which was admirable until she drove past substance, ended up at desperation, put it in Park, looked around and said "Here is where I will live my why." Hey grrl, we see what you did ...

Yes, yes - the French press is important, but behold the artful placement of the glasses and the carefully arranged, yet not intrusive, location of the iPad!  This is artistry at its best!  Do you think those glasses got there by themselves?  It probably took Mariah ages to craft this scenario to demonstrate how important we must think she is...how smart...how cultured!  And let us not forget - the pour...have you ever tried to take a picture with one hand whilst pouring a hot beverage with the other?  This is not easy, you peasants.  Many kudos to Mariah.  This photo allows me to see deep into her soul.  She is smart.  She is passionate.  She is deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

LOL.  Inane and pretentious though she is, perhaps she could teach Janelle some of the finer points of photography.  Janelle's pictures SUCK.  Use your powers for good, Mariah!

Dear Mariah:

"An ounce of pretentious is worth a pound of manure." (credit to whomever said it in Steel Magnolias, with a slight modification.)  Seriously, I'm not impressed one iota.

Dolly/Truvy in that movie, offering to buy a pair of shoes from Olympia/Clairee: "What size you wear?" Well, in a good shoe I wear a size 6 but a 7 feels so good I buy a size 8." "They're 8 and a half." "Perfect."

I wear a 9 and a couple times at a picnic when someone asked me what size I said "6." I LOL after they pretended not to goggle at my feet, because one of us damn sure needed an eye exam, while trying to hide their goggling. Good times.

It's one of my all-time favorite movies.  I was cursed with big feet, and the smallest size I could say I wear would be a 9, which would be a lie :)

But, here's a big plus:  my 60-something feet look great in sandals compared to foot-picture-in-Birks Mariah.  I don't remember who said it here, but an astute poster likened Mariah's feet to Fred Flintstone, which was a spot-on description.

So two of the fattest people in the Brown family are now fitness bloggers?  Uh, okay.

We know Janelle fills her blog space pontificating about how difficult her life is, but I'm guessing Mariah will fill hers with how wonderful she is and how great her life is.  Maybe if the two blogs were merged, the result might be something people could read without wanting to scream and rip out their hair by the roots.

I wasted about 2 minutes trying to figure out what the hell I was supposed to be seeing in that photo. I didn't feel especially relieved or rewarded when I figured out it was a big belly/armpit/up the nostrils shot.

The plant in the foreground looked very healthy.

Don't give her any more ideas!  The next thing you know she'll be pushing her horticulture blog.  Any experience she has participated in more than once, she is an instant expert.

I am just trying to imagine the conversation that went on between Mariah and Audge when it came to staging this particularly stupid "artful" photo.  How did Mariah decide which yoga pose to strike?  Why did she choose one that showed not only her armpit, but her belly (which, in that unfocused light, looked less than toned - and this is coming from someone whose belly is also less than toned, which is precisely why I would not make it the focal point of a photo for public consumption, just saying).  How did the plant come into play?  Whose idea was it to take the photo from amongst the leaves?  Why not unfocus the plant and focus on our fave hip bloggeress?  How many photos did poor Audge have to take before Mariah deemed this one (weirdly) acceptable?  Don't they both have homework they should be working on?

As a staunch member of the Get Off My Lawn Club, these are the vapid, useless questions that burn up my valuable brain neurons whenever I see the youngsters posting photos like this one.  Clearly it's posed, staged, and filtered to within a fraction of what it really looks like.  To take that much time crafting something stupid like this for social media is something I just don't get.  At all.

You are far from alone, fellow GOML clubber.  Dear Audge needs a Photography 101 class yesterday.

I'm mystified by posts such as this.  One reason I'm rarely on social media.  Vapid and then some.

Poor Mariah is not pretty, IMO. Of the 18 Brown children, I think that she's the least attractive.

I also think that she has the worst personality, with Aurora a close second, then Mekelti a close third.

Mariah seems to have a high self esteem in spite of her bad looks and personality though. That's good.

Maybe they give part of the profit to foundations that help.

If I want to support an organization that helps those who I want to see support, I'm more likely to donate directly to that foundation.  If she spends (not sure of the actual amount) $10 for a cup of coffee and avocado toast, that's for her.  If the coffee shop gives $.10 to support a charity, wouldn't it have been more generous of her to just do without the (luxury of) coffee and toast at a restaurant, make it at home, and give the difference directly to the charity?

I just think she's trying to make herself look "socially involved" with a cause, but all she's doing is buying coffee FOR HERSELF.

Or, since she's supposedly in social work and seems to have unlimited free time for hitting the coffee shops, the gym, and having endless pictures taken wouldn't actually volunteering at a suicide hot line be of more benefit?  She's all talk, no action - it's All About Mariah and not about a cause that needs all the help it can get, not just donations from a cup of coffee.

Interesting.  Is it staffed by volunteers?  Otherwise at least SOME of the proceeds would have to go for staffing.  How do they purchase supplies?  I am always leery about 100% claims.

I hear you! I’m going to assume net proceeds.

So much looking forward to reading her hashtags if reality sets in and she has to work for a living and pay back her student loans - the horror! Will not be surprised if a Masters isn't "enough" and she pursues a Doctorate. She would be a professional student for life if that were possible, posting inane thoughts and photos because me me me while racking up obscene amounts of debt because tomorrow later whenever.

What is the obsession with coffee?  Give it a rest already.

Hey now, you've crossed the line, missy. LOL

Coffee is one of the simple treasures I enjoy. I do not, however, post amateur photos of coffee mugs to show off my joy of morning coffee.....because, no one cares.

I went to grad school and loved it. I would totally be a professional student if I could. But short of becoming independently wealthy, it will never happen. I'm a voracious reader, though, so I'm always learning something.

I hear ya. We can self-educate these days if we have time to read and and use the internet - we are so blessed! I get so involved I forget to throw kids off my lawn.

I'm probably biased about Mariah because her personality and attitude remind me so much of someone I know who (with her hubby) joined the Peace Corps (3 months training and 2 years serving) after earning a Masters. Following a lengthy job search she finally entered the work force in a meaningful way in her mid 30s, landed as an adjunct prof and after just a few years realizes she is stuck because of cost-cutting in academia - adjuncts and assistants are where it's at. Her course load depends on minimum enrollment so huge variations there, no office, no input, no benefits, not eligible for tenure/SS/pension. And she acts like she was ambushed by all of that, or like she should be the exception. I mean, c'mon! Hubby is a little older, has PhD, is an assistant prof, on the tenure track, a little better off but, even so, after 20 years of marriage they can't even think about buying a home or having kids. Considering where she expected to be at this point, big effort has not turned out to be a big advantage. And now she has decided to pursue a doctorate! So I won't be surprised if Mariah takes a similar path, craving the cocoon and delaying the inevitable while time marches on and standards and possibilities change (and the loans add up, and add up some more).

Has anyone else noticed that Audge, Christine and Maddie have curiously dropped their lularoe hashtags and modeling of garments in their latest Instagram posts?  They are still identifying themselves as Luluaroe consultants on their mastheads, but have dropped the promotion of the garments.  You would think that this should be their busiest of seasons and be pushing holiday wear and gift giving suggestions.

Agree about coffee, love it. And I'll give her that the mug is cool. I'm a total sucker for interesting mugs and glassware - my kitchen cabinets are full of funky coffee mugs and my downstairs kitchenette is stocked with wine glasses, beer steins and pint glasses.

Even though the navel-gazing is obvious and eye-rolling, I just can't hate that much on Mariah - if she is in a position to live the bohemian life, I say go for it! Haters gonna hate.
