Toby getting a clue, choosing Gabe and punching the guy out was great. Same with Sylvester choosing love and being there for his girlfriend over the job. Both of them showed growth along with Walter wanting to talk to Sylvester with what was bothering him.

Wouldn't it make so much more sense if McPhee's character were like a psychologist that had a genius son? Give any reason for a psychologist to counsel Walter - court order, recent mental break due to his extremely high IQ, Homeland Security mandated due to random directive, whatever.

I loved Sylvester being there for Megan, the other NATO ( not the ones on Pico), and Ray's shirt at the end. Cabe's "You ruined it!" was predictable but just right as well.

Cabe in Whimsical Boy's outfit gave me Angus Young vibes, but that has to be the socks, right? *g*

Ray has his moments, and tonight, when he urged Sylvester to action, was great!   I hope we get Ray's story soon, no later than midseason break. Kevin Weisman can do comedy and drama just fine, but the writing is hiding, imo, too much to prolong the mystery.

As much as I enjoy the idea of Happy/Toby, until they are both in the right headspace, I hope they can keep their friendship. I hope with Toby's self-revelation, that the writing goes back to the fun teammate level from before the romantic feels.

I don't mind ex-waitress Paige being on the team, but maybe also have her taking management or history courses from either a regular community college/university/ distance learning. Something minor that takes a half a second of dialogue that shows that Paige isn't stagnant or content being just the ex-waitress and spawner of another genius. Just going around with deep sighs and "taking on" the work of PR person, while not easy, should be supplemented with more current ideas/theories. Or even like in the secret peace talk episode, Paige dove deep to memorize the dossiers, and was able to be helpful when not acting like part of the Keystone Kops that episode. ( Remember the snake-napping and the food truck?)  If Paige keeps up with legit coursework that's job-related then we can have the Chaos Reigns  (Or Does It?) At The Graduation Ceremony episode in another couple of seasons.

The "location scout" not believing that Our Team were the ones to capture him was unexpectedly fun.

Yes, it would've been better than being a waitress that gets roped in because of her genius son.

That premise wouldn't bother me if the genius son was a main character. But he's not. And last I checked, being a "people person" is not enough on its own to merit employment. It helps, but it's not a job description.

They had her doing exactly that last season and sort of vaguely implied she is still taking some business classes, even if we don't see it all the time.

Megan's Magical Mystery MS where she's got "these last few months" and yet has not yet been presented as wheelchair-bound and is talking about losing speech and all sorts of stuff, and I mean, I'm not a doctor and I don't doubt those are potential side effects of the procedure but they're also, ya know, very similar to what's coming anyway if you actually had the disease you said you had.

I know, I know, the show's shoddy handling of this has not changed, but despite all the infuriating unrealistic scenarios, and how they bust out the science when it makes them seem extra genius-ey and ignore it when it doesn't because: television, I really really can't get over how ludicrous this Meagan storyline is. They really really really just needed to give her a fake disease with they way they're playing it. And don't get me started on Sly being all remote-computer-helping-oops-now-I-have-to-go and how in the hell does any of the timing of going anywhere and getting anywhere make any sense and also shouldn't it have been a terrible time difference?

This was my favorite episode this season. I loved Sylvester and Megan. I'm really afraid that they've written that whole situation into a corner. I want that to be a long term relationship but they are going to be stuck doing something stupid like 'the geniuses who aren't doctors find a cure at the last second' to prevent having Megan die. This is a light, fun show. It can't have a death like that.

The two NATOs was hilarious.

For me this was everything I enjoy about Scorpion:

At least one moment of really bad science (picking up half a warhead of uranium with a pair of tongs, and not dying of radiation exposure being that close to it.  Uranium is heavy, and weapons-grade uranium is very radioactive.)  Bonus because the nitric acid was dangerous, so that's what they were careful with.  (Also if you get rid of half the warhead, they can't just explode the other half, and shooting half a warhead won't make it go nuclear unless you have very large bullets also made out of uranium.)

At least one moment of surprisingly good science (the nitric acid and iron oxide making nitrous oxide.)

One excuse to get Paige in an outfit where she looks amazing.

One self-aware reference (having them do the Mystery Men walk, and go past a giant fan to explain why they were windswept.)

One character seeming to betray the team, for the best of reasons (Sylvester with Walter's sister.)

Something going horribly wrong with what could have been a simple mission.

The team (or some of the team) is separated and has to rely on brains, heart, and a callback to earlier in the episode or a previous episode to work.

Western Asia is somewhere you can get to and from easily and with no jet lag.  Maybe the planet in the Scorpion world is much smaller and denser, which would also explain how someone has the strength to lift that much uranium with such ease.

And of course, Sylvester knows everything about Super Fun Guy/the Scorpion universe isn't quite our own (no Borat jokes?)

This comment is probably a tiny thing but.............how did Happy's pants just slide off over those boots? Uh huh.

Scorpeon :)

I like Toby & Happy together, but don't want it rushed. I liked his backing off, maybe it'll turn the tables for him.

Good episode. Cabe and Toby, Toby and Happy, Sly and Walter's sister, Walter's concern for Sly. But the nest past was Walter and Paige at the end. I'm a fan of the nerdy/awkward gut getting the girl so when Paige called Walter a superhero that was a mark out moment for me. lol

They could have shown the boot coming off too, dropping to the bottom, and then Happy putting it back on (better for running from bad guys)--but they didn't.

The pants removal made no sense to me. It looked like it was the boot that was stuck, not the pants. If it were the pants I don't know why they didn't just tear. So if the boot were stuck, how the fuck'd she get her foot out of it? Because it looked to me like it stayed up, not that the pants magically came off over the boot. I don't have a screengrab though so I could be wrong. Still irks.

Sylvester and Ray going to the National Assoc of Theater Owners made me laugh for a few minutes; just perfect delivery from Sylvester and the expressoin on the other guy's face.  That made the whole episode for me.

Peri Gilpin fits with the team well; I like her here.  I also had a laugh when she asked about Ralph - at least someone thinks of him!

I also wish they had given Megan some weird disease rather than MS, though I like her and Sylvester together.

Cabe knocking down bad guys and then wearing short pants will always be awesome.

Is Ray the male Paige?  If he's going to be in every episode, he'll bug me; he's not there yet but is close.  Scorpeon though, hee and "I can totally fix that!"

The pants removal made no sense to me.

Didn't make sense to me either; just an excuse to get her pants off to make the situation awkward I guess.  Not necessary IMO since they were already kind of going there with the costumes.  Toby falling through the shaft and NOT losing his hat was funny though.

Another goofy, fun episode with pseudo science.  I'll take it :)

Ah but being a single mother is surprisingly well suited to careers in law-enforcement and problem solving. As odd as it sounds some police forces have actively started recruiting single mothers because tend to problem solve well and have good interpersonal skills. Besides Paige is job is basically office manager and liason with normal's which really wouldn't  require a lot of special skills other than keeping a cool head no matter what craziness they get into.. Ironically being Ralph's mother makes her able to relate to the team as well. True there might be quite a few people who would have these skills individually but I suspect finding someone with a combination of all these skills is harder than it sounds.

Mostly I feel like Paige is is a classic victim of Heart is a lame super power rather than anything else. Which is actually a rather sexist since its almost always a feminine role.. We always tend to devalue characters who have more passive "let everyone get a long" roles. Which isn't really fair since keeping the team mentally together and functional is actually a huge contribution. I know people keep saying Tobey could do this but the sad fact is he can't. Tobey is too dysfunctional and constantly  seeking a new challenge to really be an effective long-term counselor.  Which is also probably why he's not a practicing clinician. If Tobey was an effective Team Mom Scorpion wouldn't have been scraping by the way they were in the pilot. Just because Paige isn't actively scaling buildings like Happy doesn't mean she's dead weight.

I also feel like Paige get scrutinized a lot more because shes Walter's love interest. If she was an older woman who was presented as Cabe's love interest I wonder if reactions would be different. People might actually commend Walter for being open-mnded enough to hire a single mom.

Megan saying "last few months" gave me a jolt. If she actually goes I will bawl my eyes out. Which is really why I like this show. For all that they screw up they usually get the emotional beats right.  I do think she will go in the end too. Maybe not this season but eventually. So Walter and the team can learn they are not infallible. Also given Walter's mentioning that Megan first got sick when they were kids. I don't think her MS is as far fetched as most of the science on the show. Children  who get MS do tend to reach the end stage a lot sooner than adults who get it. Not to  mention that MS is always unpredictable and it is possible to completely decompensate within a few years. Of course its also possible she could stabilize and live several more years.

I was also wondering in the episode if Walter actually knew what was going on but was pretending for Megan and Sly's benefit  It might be fairly easy for Walter to glance at a chart and realize what's going on. Or even simply guess since Megan is the only person Sly cares about outside Scorpion that his "personal matter " is about her..

This is a superficial observation. When the team went on their mission, Paige was wearing a beige shirt. She changed into the superhero costume, which she was wearing when the team was rescued. In the final scene ask home, she is wearing the same shirt again. What is the likelihood that the rescue team would let the team stop to pack after the rescue?

Any idea where Ralph spends all his time while his Mom is off on missions? Can we send Ray there? That character does nothing for me.

Awww, I like Ray. But I'm guessing either the team engineered a robot nanny for Ralph, or the government is paying for his daycare. Or is he living with his unemployed-but-inexplicably-deep-pockets father now? Edited by shapeshifter

I so hope someone had a camera behind the scenes, when they showed Robert Patrick the outfit he was going to be wearing for this episode.  I bet his reaction was priceless!  That alone probably makes this one of my favorite episodes.  The whole thing was so goofy, but it just worked.  Seeing the majority of Team Scorpion doing their normal things, but in cheap superhero outfits, just made me laugh way more then I should have.  Even Walt of all people got a huge laugh from me, when he demanded their pay get doubled for having to suffer through it.

Toby finally decides that his obsession with Happy is getting out of hand, and has decided to just quit cold turkey.  And, yet, once again, I find it funny that despite going through a lot of obvious troupes, I still found all of their scenes more entertaining then the final one with Walt/Paige.  I still don't know why, but Toby/Happy just work better then normal.

Sly being their for Megan was nice, and I'm not happy that the show stuck her with an incurable disease.  The only way out of this, besides a miracle cure, would be if it was somehow misdiagnosed, like what they did with Lucious on Empire.  But I worry that she is doomed, because not only would her death effect Sly, but Walt as well, and I think this show wants that drama.

Ray worked better this time around.

I think Walter/Paige as a couple is also a problem with the way it's written, otherwise I don't actually have a problem with Paige, she's just there along with the team.

I thought that outfit made her look AWFUL.

I did not think she looked amazing or awful - just average (keeping with the A theme).

I think Show was going for amazing, but they did not make it.  But they did put the rest of the team in goofy embarassing costumes so at least it was equitable.

They're kind of annoying when they have their awkward cliche moments, especially during this season where it interrupts their missions, otherwise, I can usually tolerate them the rest of the time.

Best line of the night, as the team is lined up in a V formation waiting for the helicopter to pick them up, aerial view, Walter's cape flying in the wind, says Toby, "I can't believe how awesome we must look right now."

I missed a couple of the previous episodes -- can someone explain who Ray is and why he's living in the garage?

As for this episode, I like Toby and Happy as a couple but I'm glad Toby's backing off--if Happy's not interested in Toby, or not sure what she feels at this time, it's best to give her some time and space. I know Walter and Paige are supposed to be the main couple, but I'm not seeing it. And I'm in the "hoping for a miracle for Megan" camp--she and Sylvester are great together.

He's the new guy, he's someone who Walter met while doing community service and for some reason has joined the team.

I enjoyed this episode much more than i can remember enjoying many previous ones.

One particular thing, and idk if the writers have the level of knowledge and irony, or if it's just bad case of Google translate into Russian, that just happened to be kinda genius, but the Kazakh guards kept yelling "Poekahli" when running after the guys. Technically it does translate to "let's go, let's drive", but this word is never used in this circumstance. Unless it is someone jumping into a car right before the car chase, then it's appropriate. Not while trying to break into a "barricaded" room.

BUT

it was the word that Yuri Gagarin - first man in space - said when the rocket was lifting off. This word is forever engrained into a Russian speaking mind as a Gagarin word. And Soviet cosmodrome was in Baikonur, Kazakhstan.

Link to comment

Being originally from Kazakhstan I can say that it does not look anything like it was shown in this episode, i.e. landscape, houses, or their placement. Looks more like Morocco or Turkey. Kazakh people look more like mongols, not like Russians. And I totally agree, the word "poekhali" is used incorrectly.
