I was watching in real time and when the ladder guy was introduced, I decided to stop watching and turn on the DVR and watch the rest later.  (I was terrified that he would fall on live TV.)  Here it is a couple of hours later that I've been surfing the net and I haven't seen anything about him falling, so I just watched it, and...yikes!

I wish they would ban "Imagine" from all talent/singing shows. The only singers I liked tonight were the girl who sang "Crying" and the girl that did "Ain't No Sunshine". I thought Piff was good tonight but still not as good as he was when we first saw him. The comedian bombed HARD tonight. Paul Zerdin was the best act of the night hands down. I think he really could win it all and I would have no problems with that.

3 Shades Of Blue: Howard, their biggest fan, with the dissenting comments. I don't know the song or who the original artist is, but I have to agree that this was their best performance.  They sounded like they've been practicing.

Gary Vider: I didn't think he was funny. Some of it was just kind of lame.

Alondra Santos: The producers are trying to change her into a pop star.

Freelusion: I got bored and kind of zoned out a little.  I wasn't sure what the story was about. I was distracted from the dancing by the media.

Alicia Michilli: It was kind of like watching a sketch for a fake record ad. There was nothing good about this.  Whenever I hear this song now, I think of an episode of Raising Hope.

Piff: I like him. I preferred this performance over the one with guess which box Mr. Piffles is in.

Daniella Mass: I'm neutral about her.  I don't think the performance was bad.  I'm just not interested.

Uzeyer Novruzov: I was glad to see him do other tricks than the ladder.  It was too bad his trick didn't work.  I looked like it would have been incredible. It seems like some of these acts get more than 90 seconds.

The Professional Regurgitator: How is this guy still alive? His diet is terrible. Whatever he's doing - or however he does his tricks, he has a good act. He has really honed it so that he has a good on stage persona.

Sharon Irving: Right from the start it was terrible. Terrible arrangement. The vocal wasn't even very good.

Paul Zerdin: That was awesome! He keeps changing the act. It's working out great for him. He's going to be one of the final two. Probably the winner unless something really goes wrong.

Paul Zerdin gave a fantastic end to the night with Howie the perfect accomplice.  It's a performance that will easily earn a spot to the finals with none of that save or judges tiebreaker nonsense.

I thought the chip drawer (Gee, I could not tell those were Lays with the red tape covering the name) of The Professional Regurgitator was crazy until he got to that insane candy drawer.

Clear out the singers and bring on the variety acts for moving on to the finals.

  • Love 2

I love that the singers may cannibalize each other.  Hopefully, all of them will go home.

I was angry for Alondra, though.  Never, ever, ever does a child/tten act taking a turn for the sexy work.  Never.  That song demands all kinds of undulating movement - the kind that is a huge turnoff when performed by immature acts.  If we don't get that kind of energy, that song doe not work at all.  This is precisely what we got tonight.  It was much too big for her.  The jidges did not dare speak to the bind TPTB put her in.   Booooo!

I didn't time it, but Piff had to have been given the most time of any act this season.   Not right.  He was great and I hope he gets to the finals, but please.  I call shenanigans.

Regurgitator blew the last bit (pun intended).  No smoke after the egg that I could see.  I'd still take him over any and all singing acts remaining.  Not even close.

One thing bothering me particularly about Uzeyer was that he is a well-established pro with expensive props and assistants.  He is not the poor, downtrodden immigrant he presents.  He fell last week (before the big ending) and he fell tonight.  He has got to go home - er - back to his home performance stage.

The comic was much better tonight.  Heidi was right - those folks have got to get as many jokes in as possible.  I really think he went much too far with his "Get the Jew!" retort.  YMMV.  Yet and still, he did enough to get through tonight, in my opinion.

I think the top three are super obvious.  I better not see any of them involved in anything Dunkin in the results show.

Like Howard, I love John Lennon, and that's why I hated what Sharon Irving did to "Imagine." For me there was no real feeling behind her singing at all, just more of the same quasi-religious, spiritual stuff she's been selling all season. She sings "imagine all the people" and there's a movie of what behind her? People. Brilliant. I only hope that the show's over-the-top pimping of her backfires, they way it did with Samantha Johnson.

Every week Alicia Michilli  sings yet another classic pop song that's been done to death on this show, The Voice, Idol etc. If you're going to do a song we've heard a million times before, you'd better kill it, and she didn't. It was ho hum. At least Daniella Mass did something original. An operatic version of Roy Orbison's "Crying" in Spanish? Well, points for originality, if nothing else.

I though Uzeyer said he was going to ditch the ladder this week. Has anyone seen him in Vegas? Is the ladder all he does? Can't imagine that for an entire act. I'm lukewarm about Gary and Piff. Don't like what they're doing to Alondra

Freelusion did almost no actual dancing, and the machines taking over bit we'll seen too many times. I think all they're story lines have been clichéd. Maybe it's time they just came out and danced.

Glad they are using the Stevie Starr name again and not just calling him the Professional Regurgitator. Using his name (even if it is a stage name) humanizes him. And each show he manages to come up with something different. Tonight there was a touch of whimsy. It was almost something a magician would do at a kid's party.

Lots made about Heidi's previous comments by Gary and Piff. Gary was trying to be funny, but Piff's jab at Heidi about Mr. Piffles not really being in the screen was pretty snarky. (a reference to her being upset that Mr. Piffles was in a box, when of course he wasn't.)

Overall, I found this weeks show much more interesting then last weeks, even with the mistakes some of the contestants made.

3 shades of blue - I started writing my thoughts down, but came to a sudden stop when I realized I couldn't remember who the first act of the night was. That's probably NOT a good thing on a competition where you have to stand out and be memorable. Look, theres nothing particularly awful about them (besides MAYBE the haircuts) but they have always come across as a poor mans garage band to me. There are thousands of amateur bands in America right now that could blow these guys out of the water and at the end of the day, they simply feel like filler.

Gary Vider - I just don't get why the judges want to champion this guy so much. Humor has always been subjective, but I simply don't see this guy giving anyone belly laughs. He didn't exactly bomb nor is he awful at what he does, but he just came off as a bit stale last night. Especially if you compare him to Piff and Paul who came later on and ended up being MUCH funnier, much more inventive and unique with their comedy. His introduction sketch with the roommate were far better than anything he did on stage and if the whole act was about this quiet, awkward guy living with an obnoxious roomate, it would have been more unique and interesting. Instead he just comes across as a Last Comic Standing dropout on a show where even a guy swallowing raw eggs manages to be funnier than him.

Alondra Santos - You know what? Considering the singers on this show love to pick serious songs and mangle old ones to show off their voice in the typical "I'm gonna scream and shout until you believe I can sing" fashion, I actually found this to be somewhat refreshing. Is it going to blow anyones mind? No. Is she going to pass to the final? Probably not. But was it fun? Yeah, yeah it was and thank god nobody was here to see me watch this show because I was this close to dancing along.

Freelusion - Despite their dancing taking a backseat this time, I actually really liked this. I mean we already KNOW they can dance so this showed off some inventiveness. You can argue that it's become more of a special effects show than a dance act now, but the voting has proved that people are tired of dancers anyways, so why NOT put on a good show? This would probably look a lot better live than it did on TV, but I'm rooting for them.

Alicia Michilli - I've liked her from the beginning, while not the strongest singer by any means, she is the most LIKABLE...to me at least. Theres something about her attitude that's not the usual "please like me and vote for me PLEASE" desperation some other singers show. That being said, she didn't do anything that interesting today and the whole laser show part just felt extremely weird and off for a song like this. They might as well have dressed her as the terminator and given her a pink sword, would have made as much sense.

Piff - I was worried for him tonight, but man did he prove me wrong. He staid away from the mistakes he made last time and got back to what he does best, being surprising, funny and charming with small, but yet impressive tricks. Is he the greatest magician the show has ever seen? Not really, but he does it with such style and humor that it ends up being much more than a simple magic act. If it's one thing I have to note it's this: he's sped up his act a bit for the show, his usual style is a lot slower and more deliberatley paced, but yesterday especially it felt like he was speeding through it, trying to get as much done as possible. Whether it's the nerves or something else doing this, I don't know. His act still works perfectly, but it's in danger of coming across as "trying too hard" at times.

Daniela Mass - For a moment there, I thought she would be singing "let it go". Thankfully it just seems the set designers were heavily intoxicated last night and doing whatever they wanted. Opera used to be the big "WOW" category on shows like this when it first started out, you'd have simple people from simple walks of life coming on stage and impressing everybody with their voice, leaving all the pop singers feeling plain and unimpressive by comparison. 10 seasons later and we've had SO many of them that it's no longer impressive and they just melt together with all the other singers now. I like Daniella and she certainly has passion, but none of this is unique any more.

Uzeyer - I don't think I've ever felt quite as bad for an act before on this show. I can't remember the last time an act like this actually failed live on stage, they always say that "Anything could go wrong, this is so dangerous" but usually the danger acts go through without a hitch and you never really feel like they were in any danger of failing. Uzeyer is the only one whose actually made me nervous and today it call came down. What made it even worse was him begging for more time in the end, and while I know it's unfair to the other contestants to let somebody try again, his act only lasted for 3 minutes while Piff and Paul went on for nearly 6 so they could have easily fit in another 90 minutes and just skipped the BS judges comments which took even MORE time. That being said, this could have gone REALLY bad in the end and you could just tell he was absolutely gutted, but to be honest here...I feel that he has more chance gaining pity votes by failing than if he had actually succeeded. His act pretty much seemed like a carbon copy of last time, but with a smaller ladder and the giant ring thrown in (which really wasn't impressive at all). I'm not sure what he was planning on doing with the smaller rings, but I can't see it being impressive enough to get him through even if he had succeeded.

The Regurgitator - I can't help but love this guy, even after seeing him on SO many shows before. Tonight felt like a small step back for me and I KNOW he's capable of much more, but I'm guessing he's saving it for the finals. I've seen people mention that he failed to bring up the smoke when he swallowed the egg, but he actually DID bring it up, it was just harder to see because it wasn't as compact as in the bubble, so it would have been better had he just blown ANOTHER bubble. Still, I'm rooting for him, he's just so unique at what he does that he deserves at least a spot in the finals.

Sharon Irving - Weeks go by and people rave about her, but I still don't quite love her. Her passion and energy comes through when she performs and she is VERY skilled at what she does, but I've yet to really be "wowed" and her song choiches so far have come across as a bit pretentious to me. Maybe I'm just being too harsh on the singers, if any of them deserve to go through tonight it's definitely her.

Paul Zerdin - I've seen Paul on other shows enough to have guessed what he was going to do tonight, but it still worked BEAUTIFULLY. Week after week he keeps showing us something new, mixing it up and breaking the rules of what acts do on stage just like Piff. One could say that they concentrated less on his face this time so we didn't see him being a ventriloquist, BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER. We already KNOW he's a great ventriloquist, he's proven it time and time again, now he needs to surprise and amaze us and he keeps doing that with EASE. Definitely a major contender at this point, just hoping he has more tricks up his sleeve for the finals.

Prediction:

Paul Zerdin, Piff and most likely Sharon straight through as the top 3.

Freelusion, Regurgitator and Uzeyer as the dunkin save acts, with Regurgitator and Uzeyer through.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Daniela or Gary sneak in.

I have not seen any of the pre-packaged bits or comments from the judges yet... just the performances.

3 Shades... bleh. It's funny... I've loved every single song they've done so far, yet have not liked a single one of their performances. I've loved "Sail" since the Kristef Brothers auditioned to it 2 years ago.

She won't make it through but Alondra sounded good. Daniella was good too. I don't really care about either of them though - they're just kind of there.

Bizarre staging for Alicia with all those lights.

Gary Vider was just okay. I'll still take him over any of the singers. I did roll my eyes at Howie giving him a standing ovation. Huh? I laughed more at Piff and Paul.

The Freelusion robot was pretty cool (and it was the saving grace of the act). I didn't see much dancing.

Absolutely heartbroken for Uzeyer. I can't even imagine what it was like for the live audience to see him fall. He listened to the judges and did the ladder again and look what happened! =) I would love for him to be in the Dunkin Save tomorrow. I'm just glad he's okay because that could've been bad.

Someone asked when the last time an act like that failed on the live shows - I believe his name was Cristin Sandu. He did rolla bolla or whatever and fell, then they brought him back as a wildcard and he fell again.

Howie's river dancing was hilarious. Howie's already a dummy, so that was a good choice for Paul. I want him to win.

Sharon Irving is so boring. I honestly keep forgetting she's even on the show.

Piff and Paul are easily through. Freelusion will probably make it too, but who knows after Siro-A got the boot last week. I'll say the Regurgitator and Sharon (ugh) for the other two, but I feel like Gary Vider could sneak in there (probably not though). Uzeyer's a wildcard if he gets sympathy votes.

Stevie the regurgitator has been around a long time, so long his teeth have rotted from the stomach acid much like a bulimic.  It is a mystery, to me, why Heidi loves him. I don't find him entertaining at all.

Uzeyer is a one trick pony and I don't find him entertaining either.

Singers don't have a place in this show; they just cannot win.  Too many singing comps on TV.

I love Piff but this last act of his left me cold.  It just wasn't as good.  I would still like to see him make F2 with Paul.  I think Paul is going to take this and give Terry Fator some competition in Vegas.

ETA. I just watched Fator on youtube.  Paul is not going to be competition at all.   Fator is extremely talented singer and ventriloquist!  He dazzles me.

Like it really hurt watching Uzeyer fall like that! and there was no padding under the ladder, he fell on his side, but he could have easily hit his head, and those 2 morons on the bottom should have done something, maybe catch him?

He was asking for 90 more seconds but you know, he has to see a doctor or risk getting a concussion worsen or something... his adrenaline pumping so the real pain is masked.

Singers I only like Daniella and because she's extremely beautiful, not an opera fan but of the singers last night she should be the only one moving on, she's got all my votes.

Paul Zerdin was awesome... also voted for him

3 Shades Of Blue: The most interesting thing to me was that Howard, who basically willed them through the competition single-handedly because he wanted a rock band to win, gave up on them. I don't much care one way or the other about their actual performance.

Gary Vider: Not a good performance from him, although I have liked him in the past and will take him over a singer.

Alondra Santos: The change in how she's being presented is jarring.

Freelusion: I liked them. Good use of mixed media even if they eased up on the dancing. Hope they go through.

Alicia Michilli: She has always irked me more than most singers, for no discernible reason.

Piff: Not his best, but an improvement over his most recent which was awful. He'll go through and he deserves to.

Daniella Mass: If we must have a singer, she would be my choice.

Uzeyer Novruzov: Well that was horrifying. Glad he was able to get up and ask for another shot... and come on now, lots of acts get way more than 90 seconds and seeing him get back on the horse (well, ladder) would have been a special moment. I voted for him despite the massive fail.

The Professional Regurgitator: As usual, my gag reflex and I do not want to know.

Sharon Irving: I honestly don't remember her from the earlier rounds. At all.

Paul Zerdin: By far the best performance by anyone this season. No comedian has made me laugh like that. I left it on the DVR so I can watch it again, which is not something I would normally do. And he made Howie useful-- it's a miracle! Voted for him as well of course.

Edited by Panopticon

If America listened to me, my personal top five in no particular order would be Piff, Paul Zerdin, Alondra, and Gary Vider - with the 5th spot being available for bribes (I'm sorry, but I'm over multi-media dancing, even creative multi-media dancing with !!robots!!)

Edited by A Boston Gal

Glad he was able to get up and ask for another shot... and come on now, lots of acts get way more than 90 seconds and seeing him get back on the horse (well, ladder) would have been a special moment.

His wanting to very badly but not being able to probably was to his benefit:

1.  It shows he is a pro (not just a veteran performer, but a true professional.)

2.  It gave him serious sympathy votes.

3.  It shows the general public not to do a hoop/spinning act and then very quickly do something that takes a lot of balance.

4. He took that fall like a stunt man.  He almost caught the top of the ladder on the way down, and had the foresight (practice?) not to try to break his fall with his hands...which would have just broken his hands and perhaps not slowed his momentum enough.  I'm not sure; this is why I stay off ladders when I have another choice.

5.  He gets to be checked out by a doctor, which might save his life.  Probably not, but two falls in a short period could have been a disaster, mats or no mats.

It was a mistake to push the timing issues; everyone gets one shot on stage--that's the rule.  He wanted to take the risk again, and will...but the show could blame the insurance company, and people wouldn't have been as upset that they spent more than 90 seconds on comments, filler, etc.  (Everyone had more than 90 seconds; the issue was an EXTRA 90 seconds to try to cheat death again.)

Jumping down from a ladder from that height, even onto mats, and walking away, was impressive in its own right.  Also an excellent DO NOT TRY THIS.

I really liked Piff's card trick with Mr. Piffles.  "Fetch the card, Mr. Piffles!" and the teleporting to Vegas and back was awesome.  The payoff for the Magic Toaster was more impressive than I thought it was going to be, but that's why he's a MAGIC dragon.  I just hope he keeps an eye on his magic blood sugar levels, because when dragons get to be above 400, that can be a risk.  (Also lung disease, because of all the Smaug.)  (Feel free to use that, Piff, or if you'd rather, not use it and keep your fans.)

  • Love 1

3 Shades Of Blue: I agree with Howard on this one. They did not, and have not, impressed me at all. Hopefully they are going home tonight.

Gary Vider: He was okay, none of his jokes were memorable at all. "Boobissippi" is pretty lame for this stage of the show. He would get destroyed on Last Comic Standing.

Alondra Santos: I didn't keep my eyes on the TV for this one but she did sound pretty good from what I've heard. America doesn't seem to be falling for the kid acts this year so I see her going home. I like how the judges made a big deal about her bringing her culture to America like we've never seen any of this before lol.

Freelusion: The overhead camera shot with the robot was really weird. It was like I was watching a bad movie on Syfy channel. The actual dancing was not great but I hope they make it through because we already have 3 singing acts from last week.

Alicia Michilli: For me this was her weakest performance of the show thus far. The whole laser tag laser maze set did not work for me either.

Piff The Magic Dragon: I like Piff but I can't see him being a headlining magician like a David Copperfield or Penn & Teller. He has some nice tricks but that's all they are, nice. He's done nothing jaw-dropping and I don't think he has anything like that in his repertoire. Still infinitely more interesting than any of the singers though so I hope he makes it through.

Daniella Mass: I liked that she tried something different and didn't totally ruin it. If a singing act has to go through, and I'm sure AT LEAST one will, then she'd be my pick.

Uzeyer Novruzov: I feel terrible for him after what happened. On a positive note, this makes me REALLY want to see what he was going to do. I hope America gives him another chance.

The Professional Regurgitator: Good performance but this felt more like a week 1 kind of thing. I did see the smoke come out later on but there was very little. He seemed to be just kind of cruising through this and going through the motions. I've heard he has an insane Rubic's Cube trick which I'm guessing he is saving for the finals.

Sharon Irving: If Howard is such a big Lennon fan, he should have tore this girl a new one for destroying his song. I have no idea why the judges all stood for this one. It was terrible. I have a feeling she will go through unfortunately.

Paul Zerdin: I had a headache after his performance from laughing so hard. This was BY FAR the best performance of the night. I think we might have a winner here. I think it comes down to Paul and crappy singer X. After this and the robot puppet, I really want to know what else he has up his sleeve.

  • Love 2

Uzeyer - was just crushed for him:  But I agree -- it was better for him...and the show's liability...for them to not let him get a 'redo' - it was a helluva fall, and letting him risk injury...AGAIN...would have been insane for both.  But it was crushing to see how visibility heartbroken he was.

I love Piff...and desperately want that 'Piff'in ain't easy' mug.

I just don't get the Regurgitator.  He's a good showman...but just don't get the appeal.

Looks like a very strong year for the finals to not be dominated by singers.  YAY!

I wish they would ban "Imagine" from all talent/singing shows.

Amen. That and "Hallelujah." (Which i love, when Leonard Cohen or Jeff Buckley or KD Lang sing it. Random Singing Contestant, not so much.) Unfortunately both of these songs scream "soulful meaningful important song" so singers gravitate toward them. It's easy to convey "I am singing a very important song in a meaningful way" when the song is doing most of the work. (And I'm a big Lennon fan. Try that with "Crippled Inside" and I'll give you some credit. :) )

  • Love 1

I admit, I skipped through the singers since I don't care about any of them. I'll catch them when they appear on The Voice.

Gary Vider: He was okay, none of his jokes were memorable at all. "Boobissippi" is pretty lame for this stage of the show. He would get destroyed on Last Comic Standing.

This season the worst comics are getting voted through by the judges, so Vider could actually win LCS if he continues to be not funny.

Uzeyer: I was waiting for ONE of the judges to say if we want to see him again to VOTE for him, but each one kept repeating, "Are you okay?" and "That's so dangerous." Why not encourage voters to send him through so he could have another 90 seconds? And what was he trying to do with those rings anyway? I was thinking hoola-hoop them with his knees?

I seriously LOL'd at Paul's Howie act, and I'm not a LOL person. It was hilarious. Just the best ever.

I also liked Piff again, although I do find his snarky bad attitude sort of wearing thin. Although his pre-performance clip was good, about him losing his magic-ness.

Only caught the end of Stevie so just caught him barfing up the egg. Flipping channels to miss the singers made me miss him, too, although I can't say I'm sorry. Barfing up is just not my idea of a good time, real or imagined.

  • Love 1

I only got to see a few acts and none all the way. It rained hard, thunder & lightening, so satellite was out for most of the show. So, I don't feel I could judge the acts, did get to see most of ventriloquist act, but missed some of the beginning and had trouble figuring out how much Howie was involved.

I guess because I didn't see much of the acts, but got glimpses of the judging, I realized why Heidi annoys me. She starts every statement with, "I mean..."

  • Love 3
On a positive note, this makes me REALLY want to see what he was going to do. I hope America gives him another chance.

You can see it on YouTube if you want. Fortunately, he also does pratfalls, so he's trained at falling. I think he's probably okay. The height is actually a good thing for a trained stunter because he wasn't so high that injury was guaranteed but he was high enough that he had time to orient his body to best take the fall.

I'm wondering if he was thrown off by doing the cyr wheel bit before he got on the ladder. That had to make him dizzy. I'm trying to find if that's a regular thing or if he really just wanted to do cyr wheel to show that he's not just a ladder person, but also felt obligated to include the ladder because he basically got told to by the judges.

Stevie the regurgitator has been around a long time, so long his teeth have rotted from the stomach acid much like a bulimic.  It is a mystery, to me, why Heidi loves him. I don't find him entertaining at all.

I think he had all his back teeth removed because it helps him hide stuff in his mouth so he can pretend he swallowed and "regurgitated"  it.

I cannot stand his act.  It brings to mind stories of kids choking to death on toys, psychiatric patients swallowing scissors and pens, it just makes me ill to see  his act.

The positive side is that if I fast-forward the regurgitator and all the singing acts, I can watch this show in no time at all.

  • Love 1

It still isn't clear to me what he did with the hoops in that video.  It looked like he actually succeeded with the trick, but the camera was too far away for me to see what he did with them.

He put one hoop around each leg while standing on top of the ladder (which is what he was trying to do on stage); then let the hoops fall onto the rungs of the ladder and then he and the ladder fell forward, he tumbled, and stood up (all apparently intentional.)  If that was his planned ending, it would have been more dangerous and would have looked (to me) like another accidental fall.

That said, thanks for the clip, and for the name "cyr hoop".  I wondered what they were called.  I also wondered how much they cost ($500-1,000 US on eBay, which might be why they didn't give it the mega-DO-NOT-TRY-THIS warning.)
