Are the Nats really going to make the WS in their first season without Harper?

(I know it was only one game but overreacting is one of my superpowers)

I just hope that every Nationals win drives Dan Snyder crazy.

I've loved the Nats ever since they came to DC (their arrival reminded me so much of the opening scene of Major League). This is now so incredible. Makes me wonder what the originals are doing/thinking (including my favorites Nick Johnson, John Patterson, Chad Cordero, Brian Schneider, Jamey Carroll, Brad Wilkerson). We were there the night Ryan Zimmerman made his debut. Love that guy.  Sorry for rambling...I'm just so verklempt!

I don’t know if these St. Louis unis are a throwback or not, but they look really good.  Especially Dexter Fowler with the high striped socks.

You know what else would look good on St. Louis? Offense. They've managed two hits off of Sanchez and Scherzer. Good thing for them that they only have to face (checks notes) Strasburg.

As a Cubs fan, St. Louis is our mortal enemy and the Nats have been a recent foe.  So, I did not know who to root for, but I've decided I love the Nats, and its because they are no longer tainted by the presence of Bryce Harper.  I hate that egomaniac as much I hate Tom Brady and the New England Cheaters.  So, without Harper, the Nats are now fun and likeable with their dancing and their baby sharking.  It could be a really fun WS with these guys and my Fun Size Baseball Boyfriend Jose Altuve and his friends!

I didn't care for him from the moment I first read about him, before he started playing for the Nationals. What you see now are the real Nats. If Bryce wasn't yakking about wearing a WS ring, then sports writers from all over were stupidly predicting, during *spring training* that the Nats were going to the WS (most of us rolled our eyes).  This past spring the team didn't have to be bothered by any of that nonsense. Just making it this far is really fun!

That hurts, ebk.  I am WOUNDED.

As a Jays fan I think we are "supposed" to hate the Yankees but as my father does I realize my brother and I just….. don't at all?  I prefer them over the Astros.  Nothing wrong with the Astros, I am just bored of them!

Am cheering for the Cards, but……. welp…….

I'm rooting for the Yankees as well, I'm not really into the NL series. I think they are fighting for the privilege of getting mowed down by NY or Houston.

On another note, I don't think Encarnacion is really into the no facial hair policy lol. I have to say in his case I agree.

Wow, I didn't even think about that!  I forgot that the Yankees have to do that.  That's so weird.

That's another good reason I like the Yankees.  Edwin's there.  I like a lot of the players.

Edwin's a beard guy….. I don't know if he'd care to wear a mustache.  There is a picture of him in the Yankees uniform with a beard, but I don't know if it's Photoshopped or they just made him get rid of it immediately.

Nope no mustaches or beards.  When Edwin first started he sculpted his five o’clock shadow into the same shape as his former beard, which made me laugh.

My son, the light of my life, is ten months younger than Gleyber Torres.  I cannot even imagine Tyler doing what Gleyber is right now.

You’re welcome for the Chapman rental that got you the trophy, Chicago!  Thanks for sending Ardoldis back to us and throwing in Gleyber in the deal.

He’s a terrific player and a great kid. So is Judge.

It is nice as a Yankees fan to have the team populated with young, likable players.

Not that it will matter to the “anyone but the Yankees” crowd.  That group, rightly so, is probably invested in obnoxious Yankees fans ::waves!:: not winning and not so much the specific group wearing the pinstripes this year losing.

Did they change the policy? Because a lot of guys (Winfield, Mattingly, Jackson) had mustaches back in the day.

I never liked facial hair policies.

Heh, we have the same relationship with the Dodgers and Yordan Alvarez. Thanks for the trade, L.A! Not that it helped any last night.

I never liked facial hair policies.

As late as 2008, they had the “Support the Stache” campaign for Jason Giambi to try to get him named to the All-Star team(complete with Joe Girardi rocking a fake one during an interview).

ETA:  Plus there was a brief clubhouse fad in 2015.

It is no facial hair except mustaches. They also have a thing about the hair length not going below the collar.

Huh.  I don’t think anyone has a mustache so that is why I thought they were banned too.  I cannot imagine one of those men wearing a mustache, unless they are going to Gardner Minshew it up in there.

When the Yankees played the Red Sox in Boston last Twitter was all agog trying to uncover the identity of the guy in the dugout with a full beard, until it was discovered that the bat boys are from the home stadium but wear the uni of the team whose dugout they are in.

I’m pretty sure the Yankees facial hair policy is the same as the military’s. If memory serves, it's no beard, mustaches are allowed but not past the corners of the mouth or length past the edge of the top lip (basically, a 70s pornstache). Sideburns to the middle of the ear.

Mustaches just aren’t popular right now, so nobody has one.

At the same time Steinbrenner was busy ensuring his players looked like upright citizens, he was making illegal campaign contributions and paying a gambler to spy on Dave Winfield.

As long as they play by the rules of the game, it's time to end the ability of ownership to tell players whether they should shave or not.

I actually don't understand these policies in today's world. NHL players have beards, and it's a tradition for those without one to grow on during the playoffs. The NFL has tons of beards, most recently immortalized by Ed Reed's awesome Hall of Fame bust.

And the NBA? Having a beard has never kept guys like LeBron and James Harden from being some of the most popular players on the planet.

Eh, he did it for one game on a bet. He shaved it off after that.

One game too many I say!

So when the train horn goes off in Houston, does that little train on the tracks move around?

It did when I was there 15 years ago.

Obviously, we'll wait for @kariyaki to weigh in though.

Yeah, it’s fully functional. It moves in between each inning as well. The same train conductor has ran it since the park opened.

To my dismay, mustaches seem to have made a comeback. I guess just none of the Yankees players are into it. Superficially, I appreciate the policy, as I am not a fan of facial hair.

Yankees fans? I wouldn't be too shocked.

No, they’re part time season ticket holders, we’ve seen them a lot. The woman takes pictures with her phone for the entire game. I don’t think she watches it without it being filtered through her phone first.

Well . . . looks like both teams have one win apiece heading to The Bronx. Took 'em . . . .what? Almost five hours? I know tomorrow is a federal holiday, but eleven innings shouldn't take that long.

I think I heard Joe Buck say four hours. 49 minutes.

It only felt like 5 hours...

Nice win Astros!

Whoo! That was a great win!

You're not kidding. That would have been a really tough loss, whereas now you head off to New York back on track.

I went to bed at 2-2 mid-eighth.  This is a real Monday thing to wake up to.  😡

Heh. I fell asleep on my couch somewhere around there. I woke up and stumbled up to bed. I looked at my phone, and there was no banner announcing the final score, so I quick checked and saw it was 2-2 and something about Sanchez and the bases loaded. Put the phone down, brushed my teeth, climbed into bed. Hear my phone buzz, so I looked. "Final Houston 3 - New York 2.

D'oh. I could have gone to bed without that news.

Oh well, it is what it is. The truth is, this is the third season in the playoffs for this version of the Yankees. If they're actually going to turn into a championship team, they HAVE TO have a moment where they bounce back against a great team, a team that has had their number. Otherwise, they're just going to be just another good team.
