Some info about the video. It's in French, but it explains the idea behind the video.

"She [Christina] proposed a world inspired by the film Ghost. She wanted to play a presence that would accompany a man that can't see her"

I guess it ties into the one pic where there were all the flowers around. Maybe his character is a florist?

I was writing the same thing!!!

He's a florist and a woodman!

He's researching the kind of flower to buy her so he can tell her how he feels because he can't use his words! Or something. $10 says that the "twist" end for the video is him knocking on her door and she answers it because she's really not a literal ghost, just a figurative one.

I had a feeling it was going to be a Ghost sort of scenario just because of the pictures that were released. He never seemed to see her in those. So....is she someone from his past who died?

Here's my story: They meet in the beginning, or maybe just exchange glances, perhaps in the flower shop. "All of the lights land on you, The rest of the world fades from view". But Colin's character ends up walking away because he doesn't want to get hurt again. So she "haunts" him, singing things like "Still your mind, now I’m yours to choose", until finally at the end they meet again, and this time, he takes a chance, and the final words of the song are "So let the words slip out of your mouth".

Exactly what I was thinking.

It's here!

So... that was all one big, elaborate, and expensive scheme by Christina Perri to get Colin shirtless, right? Since Once probably won't ever go there? Also, someone else clarify for me (I know, tough job), but I think that's Hook's necklace at 2:21. Nice touch.

Um....my tumblr dashboard has blown up. So......yea.

And yes, I did notice the Hook necklace. :)

Not really sure about the video's storyline. Like is he just lonely and frustrated that life is passing him by, which is why he watches the train and does the jaw flex and takes a bath and looks frustrated in bed? And then he sees a girl in a flower shop and everything is fine. Is this like a "You're lonely, but it's OK because you're going to meet me soon?" I don't know. I feel like I'm complaining about a porn because the storyline wasn't very believable.

I think the storyline is that he won't give love a chance (that's what the song is about) but then that day at the florist he sees her and decides to. I saw some quotes from either Christina and the director talking about it?

Erm....so that was...amazing?  That was pretty much fangirl heaven right there.  And who else didn't totally love adorbs Colin with the fumbling of the crate and cute head scratch at the end?

I'm gonna go sit down for a spell...

I thought she was dead.  Not confused by the pretty, but confused by the "story".  Her thought process was probably something like "well I'll never get to see him chopping wood, in a tub, wet...let me remedy to that."

I can't remember fangirling so hard at something before. Colin looked amazing, and in the beginning I was just smiling at how happy Christina looked. And then he took off his shirt, and I was a little in disbelief, and then he got in the tub, and I thought for a second she was going to get in with him! But still just sitting at the end of the tub must have been amazing for her. Now I understand her tweets about the shoot being one of the best times of her life.

The necklace wasn't exactly like Hook's, but it had a sword and crossbones, so nice touch!

Christina explained the story on Facebook:

the video is about a guy who cant stop thinking about the girl he keeps seeing at the flower shop. he is so torn with his feelings and she haunts him the way love does... finally at the very end he finds the courage to say hello and let himself love her :)

So he has met her before, maybe if they had put that in the video, it'd have made a bit more sense. The song and video are gorgeous anyway, so I'm not going to complain much ;P

I feel like we should collectively send her flowers or a fruit basket or something as a "thank you." Because shirtlessness! Wet! In a bathtub!

She has achieved the pinnacle of fangirling. I salute her.

Christina Perri looks like a brunette Abigail/Katherine at a lot of angles. Ooh, I want her Hook necklace! Major kudos again, of course, for living the dream within a dream and sharing it with her fans and his fans and everybody fans.

A lot of The Guy In The Words Video mannerisms are very Killian Jonesish. There's like the sudden smile that falls, and the pensive thousand yard stare with almost-frown, and the scratching or rubbing parts of his head/face. I wonder if that's deliberate or if Colin's acting defaults to Hook mode.

All I can think when I see him shirtless in the tub is that he looks so pensive and thoughtful that he's making the water think. It's like I wanna go have a think of water now.

The reading a botany book in bed is my absolute favourite part because I think it's awkward and funny. That book is large, hardbound, glossy-paged, and color illustrated--man, just prop it up on your stomach or against your knees, and save the pillow reading for books that can love you. Not that I'm judging, I'm just...totally judging.

The video's actually like a genderswapped version of Belle & Sebastian's "Funny Little Frog" (the uptempo acoustic guitar version by acoustickatie24 on YouTube is my favourite version of that song). Also reminds me of the City of Angels movie where Nicholas Cage is ghosting around Meg Ryan.

Yep, guy sees girls, keeps thinking about her, finally meets her.

I've seen posts on Tumblr saying that, in the video, she's a stalker. What's wrong with people?

About the video, and Colin, I think I need to program another trip to Ireland. Soon.

Oh, ffs. I thought the video made it quite clear that the only time she's actually there is at the end. There were cuts of her there and then him alone in the same freakin' scene, for crying out loud. Maybe they just don't watch a lot of ghost movies, but cuts like that are used for a reason.

It's funny, but when I see Colin in that video it makes me want to see him in other roles outside OUAT. I do love his take on Hook, but let's face it, the writing is not doing him any favors. He's pretty much pigeonholed as Emma's love interest and a way for villains to get to her. I wish they would explore him as a man and them as a real couple - talking, learning about each other, bantering with each other. This kind of got away from me, but I guess I just really want to see him fully leverage his acting chops because I think he has a lot to offer!

But wouldn't it be so much more fun to learn about guest star villains and watch their flashbacks instead?

Totally agree with you, though. I'm very thankful Once has put Colin's acting into the mainstream media a bit more, so hopefully he can use his popularity after the show is over to land some juicy indie roles with a lot better writing.

Going back to the video, am I the only one who prefers Christina's original audio for the song? I think it was the right call to alter the vocals a bit to match the more melancholy feel of the video and Colin's moody character, but the music in the video kind of drags too slowly now. The original audio had a soft drum beating in the background to push it along - almost like a heartbeat - and had a slightly faster tempo to it. Also, there are some subtle nuances she changed with her voice, like sliding up a whole note whenever she sings "I know" instead of hitting the note forcefully like in the original version that I'm not entirely sure I like better. So I kind of hope she uses the original audio for the radio and not the music video edit. (I know, I know. What am I doing analyzing the music? I should just watch the nice visuals.)

The video is closing in 150K views in close to 24 hours, so I guess it could be a selling point for Once maybe and that's why it was tweeted about?

I didn't really care for the video to be honest, but I thought Colin looked way better (like delish) than he did on Once since the costume change.  Personal opinion on the "matter" obviously.

Well, on the other hand, if the show ever DOES decide to have Hook switch completely to Storybrooke clothes, at least we know how he'll look.  And count me as surprised that Colin agreed to get (semi) naked for the video, since by all accounts, he really is very shy and modest about showing too much skin.

Link to comment

Modest in person, maybe, but he seems like he really does change when he's in character. I doubt any of us would call PirateHook "modest".

The sign of a really good actor, who can lose himself in a character. I'm always amazed when an actor can manage to look and be unrecognizable when in character.
