Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Rumor from someone at the reception is Jill ate the dinner, heard the speeches and the bailed for the 2 1/2 photo shoot of Samuel and Cinderella.

I don't think that will be a problem. Her comment from a post from The Transformed Wife about women taking birth control and limiting family size.

Screenshot (752).png

She's saying that from the perspective of a fairly newly-converted zealot who thinks that her gawd will provide and make everything peachy-keen. When she has little kids and is trying to manage a household (and a zillion diapers) on next to no money with no help from her husband or monster- mother-in-law, she might see things differently.

And is part of the Rod traveling circus (and Jill's every whim).

Yes, very true. She seems to idealize the fundie life now because other than the cos play outfits she isn't living the actual reality of it.

There is also literally no stress to have sex.  The exact opposite.  This courting seems to be the best time for the female in fundyland.   You get all the benefits and none of the drawbacks.    You aren’t even left alone with your supposed love.    The minute you tie the knot however it is the reverse.   All the drawbacks none of the benefits.

Jill’s “smell you coming” story might sound sweet coming from anyone else.   We all have those weird stories that mean something to the people involved but don’t translate well to internetland.    That being said everything coming from Jill has this  eery vibe to it.  She just makes every sound like it comes from a stepford wife who gets kicked out of town for being too stepfordy.

So she loved Heidi until she saw that Heidi wasn't going to kiss her a--. Not to say that Heidi would be anything but respectful but she isn't going to gush as to how much she just love her and writes odes of bad tributes.

Tim said early on that Heidi had a mind of her own. She's certainly proven that.

Bri is cozying up to a fantasy she's drummed up in her imagination. Reality is going to be much different once the kids start coming.

I think Jill is shocked Tim might have a mind of his own as well and she failed to beat it out of him.

I can't see Brianne being happy with a cardboard and silly string gender reveal either. Girl will need costumes.😂

I can't see Bri tolerating anything less than full on middle class creature comforts. Samuel had better provide a decent house for her if they get married. I'd be surprised if she would agree to live in a camper trailer or a mobile home as a newlywed. Or, maybe she'd go along with it for awhile, but I don't know how much personal inconvenience she'll tolerate in pursuit of her fundie fantasy world that she's got going on.

Also, I think Bri would be on the same level as Jill and David as to the creature comforts and basic life needs of the other Rod kids: as long as she's fed and dressed to her satisfaction, she won't give a flying fart that the Rod kids get short rations to eat and shabby clothes to wear. She might not even notice.

I laughed out loud at Jill's Part 2 Ode to Dave, where she claims that Dave was waiting for her to take a shower in the RV before he started driving and - knowing her sweet hunk was waiting on her - she proceeded to shower, dress, put on makeup and perfume.  I wonder if that's why Jill's posts tend to come around 3:30 - 4am...she wakes up way before hunk so he never sees her without full hair, makeup, perfume, jewelry, cute sweatblouse, etc.  He probably thinks she was born in full eyeliner.

And who the hell needs a full face of makeup to simply sit in the RV for several hours? Just slap on some sunscreen and call it a day until you arrive at your destination.🤷‍♀️

Shower, dress, of course. Everyone likes to be clean even if it’s just to ride in the RV.  But makeup and perfume?  My spouse hadn’t seen me in make-up for years, even on a ‘date night’.   Too many people are allergic to perfume for me to wear it.  She is so old fashioned and insecure about her and David.  Does she get her marriage information from 1930’s women’s magazine articles?

Shower, sure. But did her 13 kids also get to shower? How do showers in an RV like that work?

Jill’s got a video on IG of the three youngest girls and Tessie at a farm petting pigs and goats.  Janessa’s got her rag with her and it’s dragging on the ground by the pig pen.  I hope it gets washed before it goes back in her mouth but I sincerely doubt it.  Just rewatched and although the rag wasn’t in her mouth in the video she was rubbing it on her face near her mouth.  More germs.  I guess she didn’t get enough at the bacteria pool water slide.

I have to confess, I would wear make up.

I'm sure only Jill showers in the RV.

Heidi has a strong support system around her. Her family is what is keeping her from being absorb by the Jill collective. Brianne seems estranged from her family, but she's a college educated woman who's lived in the outside world. She might be docile right now, but it might change later on.

I hope so. It would be great for Jill to have two daughters-in-laws she can't control or if Bri could out Jill, Jill.

Perfume in an enclosed RV with so many people?  That's mean.  I hope none of the Rods have allergies or get headaches easily.  My mother would use Noxema hand cream in the closed car, and it made me sick.  My mom thought it was funny.   She was kinda like Jill in some ways.

Years ago there was a "reality" show where a girl wanted to become Amish.  It showed her being taught how to dress and how to do daily chores.  As I remember, she didn't like having to learn how to kill chickens.  I don't remember if she stayed or decided that living Amish was not for her, but I found it interesting that there are people that really think it is for them.  I hope Brianne thinks this through very carefully.  Even if she wants the religion, does she really know what she is in for with Jill as a MIL?

RV showers are fairly tiny, about 3x3 or 4x4. Larger people often opt to use the campground shower to get some elbow room. The shower head is a hand sprayer and I know we always did wet down - turn off water - soap up - rinse approach. It's not the place for a long hot shower, but it does the trick to freshen up for a day of vacation (although I didn't need to rinse off perfume, polyester sweat and seven layers of eyeliner).

Whether the kids can shower probably depends on whether they're staying in a campground hooked up to utilities or dry camping in a parking lot. If they have access to water and sewage they can probably do baths for everybody even a little faster than at the barndo. If they're dry camping, I'm going to guess that showers for 13 are going to both use up the water supply and fill up the grey water tank (where everything but the toilet goes).

What I don't get was whether Dave was joking about being nice enough to wait for her to get ready. If not, it's an arse move to make someone shower hurtling down the highway in a fiberglass phone booth. I doubt Jill could do it on her severely torn knee things.

I don’t understand why you would wait to publicly wish your daughter a Happy Birthday 5 days after her birthday.  It’s not as if she spent five days editing the video.  The truth is she wanted to post her Vermont video and had to explain why Hannah was  there.

Jill's too busy thinking about ways she, BME, has been wronged by Heidi and Tim to spend time writing a personal birthday tribute to Hannah. Tears are rolling down her face daily, after all. A recycled message will have to do while Jill is being attacked by Satan left and right.

That would be one excuse, but if you go compare it to everything she has ever written about her children, its all the same.   Good, god-fearing, respectful, and nothing individual about any child whatsoever.   Its really sad that she does not see them as individuals but merely tthere to demonstrate how wonderful she is.

My mom gave up wearing scent, especially Blue Grass, because it gave me migraines.  I still hold my breath in the detergent aisle, the perfume section at Macy's, and the scented candle section of any store.  A former coworker that I liked poured on Oscar de la Renta, so I would distance myself as best I could at work.  I'm sorry your mom inflicted a sick smell on you!  It's not the least funny, I know.

16th birthday tradition for the rod children according to Jill.

"If you have followed our family for any length of time, you know that when they turn 16, they pick a friend or sibling to get dressed up and go out with for a special evening of celebration." (*Readers, we do this in place of the worldly, sensual PROM night done in public schools. It gives our girls a chance to modestly dress up and enjoy a night out. )

Kaylee and Renee also got the trip to the NICE Olive Garden and then to Burger King where they received the purity talk and their purity gifts from mama and daddy. ick

Tessie chose Hannah last year for that ever so special dress up and photo shoot outside the hospital where Gideon was in the NICU. Hannah apparently chose Tessie this year. They were surely back at the Von Trapp place in Vermont.

Timothy's friend was grandpa Noyes. Samuel and one of the older girls had a non rod friend. Both friends looked highly uncomfortable in pics. Since then it has always been a sibling.

Notice in the top post, she was so sure of the "one on the way" son in law. I'm sure she would never have guessed (or admit to) chasing him away (probably on purpose for not being willing to kiss her a**).

Jill over describes stuff because she thinks she (and her family) are so much above us mere peons, that if she doesn't over explain,  describe, whatever, we won't understand.  And if we don't understand her perfection,  then she's being persecuted.

(And of course she LOVES the picture of her and her hunk where she's facing front and he is not!)

Me too. Jill's never been to a prom, neither has anyone in her family and I doubt any of their sweet friends aka marks have either. How on earth would she know what a prom, sensual or otherwise, is like?

WTF was that movie Jill posted? Was that supposed to be some old timey religious leader? Whoever it was, it was unwatchable. Horrible acting.

Jill said she wanted to watch Sheffy for their anniversary.

internet says "The true story of Robert Sheffey, a rowdy teen who converted to Christianity at 18 and spent decades as a circuit-riding preacher of great compassion.

"Although his relatives wished him to continue in the Presbyterian church, he became a Methodist and, shortly thereafter, an itinerant preacher."

Guy was born in 1820 and died in 1902.

I’m surprised that Nurie didn’t always have the McDonald’s arches eyebrows.

Hannah is very pretty. It looks like she reached her full make up stage. Remember, one piece of make up a year to learn. She’s got the eyes and lips and everything else going already. Her eyebrows aren’t too bad either.

Kaylee and Renee look ghastly. They have the same color arms. Why is Renee in dark make up, while Kaylee is white as a ghost? Tessie is extremely pretty. She’s already skinny enough, she could be a model. But that has to top a prom on the slut scale times 100.

So Samuel and Nurie had real friends instead of siblings or grandparents for their special day. That must’ve somehow gone horribly wrong since it seems only siblings are allowed now.

I truly thought they were in halloween costumes.  They look ill and terrifying at the same time.

RE: Scheffey.  Circuit preachers were useful and popular during that time period.  My 4th great-grandparents were married by a traveling preacher named Jedediah Bushnell.  They went on to name their son Jedediah Bushnell.  Their other son, Manly, named his son Jedediah Bushnell, also.  Rev. Bushnell must have been a very good preacher!
