Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

My understanding is that they went to North Carolina for their ‘retreat’.   So I think it was at a church or church camp there.

Wherever it is, you couldn't pay me to go in that gross water.

At their church.

I think most of their retreat was at the church.

Someone mentioned the church has a school and the pool the family swam in was the pool there,

The baseball field was most likely there as well.

What they truly needed was the school!

I  keep thinking about what parasites are in that water... giardia, ringworm... and I'm sure at least one of the kids swallowed some of it. Dysentery! And not to mention that it doesn't look safe at all from a physical injury standpoint.

This picture reminds me of the irrigation canals that run around and through the town where I grew up.  I never swam in the canals, but I had friends that did. There were a  couple of drownings through the years (no one I knew).  But they were concrete lined and the water was pretty clean.  I did swim in the "lake" my uncle dug on his farm.  Looking back, that was not a good idea, either, but it was cleaner water and there was no uneven  concrete or any iron posts around, and it did not have a "water slide".  It is sad that this is all the "fun" these kids have in their lives.

I remember when I was a kid, the big thing was to take off your shoes and socks and walk in the mud. My mom would not allow me to do so. I didn't understand and the time but I do now.

She’ll probably have another post about the kids begging to stop at some tourist attraction on the way home even though they were all so sick with a stomach bug that she had to do the girls’ hair and make up.  And she’ll never realize that the stomach bug is something they all picked up in that disgusting water.  Just gross.

At least there don't appear to be any filters on the water slide pool that the Rodlets can clog up with their dirty denim street clothes and their long hair.

I just gave myself a full body-shudder imagining the filth and hair in that "pool" of water...and what, pray tell, does Jill do with all of the soaked in dirty water and E. Coli street clothes that all the kids were wearing?  Toss them in a garbage bag until Renee has time to go to the laundromat?

I hope Dave didn't attempt that thing...with enough speed, he could've ended up airborne in the field across the street.

When the pastor mentioned that the Rod family had been on the water slide he said they had the scrapes and bruises to prove it.😬

In one pic Nathan had on plaid shorts and a shirt. Next we see his arms and legs fully covered with the tights. Those non whimp boys had more clothing covering them than any of the girls were wearing.

Also they seem to have worn the same clothing for water slide, family baseball and swimming in the pool🤮

Sounds like he was almost bragging as to how unsafe that slide is. Wonder how he would feel if there was a serious injury and he got sued?

And what they cost.   The reason they swim in drainage ditches is they are free.   Jill is not spending money on her children to have fun.

They would also be required to wear real swimwear. So again a no from Jill.

I'm amazed no one has been seriously injured in that concrete splash pool at the end of the slide. It's way too small; if someone is sliding fast, they could smash face first into the end of that.

Words my Nurie, using spoiler because it’s long.

Spoiler

We had such a special time visiting my family about a week ago.  I am soo thankful to my parents David Jill Rodrigues , for planning such a special family vacation time. We treasure all the memories we made together.

Times like these are so important to reconnect with family and make memories around God's word.  Satan hates when a family is unified around God's word . He is trying everything in his power to divide and destroy a strong family unit.  Luke 12:52 (KJV)  For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. Luke 12:53 (KJV)  The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Jesus revealed that His coming often results in conflict.  Families are aften torn apart when some choose to follow Him and others refuse to do so. Let's strive not to be that weak link but to be strong in the Lord and to sharpen one another in the Lord. Proverbs 27:17 (KJV)  Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

I am soooo blessed to have parents who truly care about our spiritual being and strive to be that godly influence in each of our lives

I am thankful that within my family is where I find my best friends.  I am thankful that we can be unified NOT by our worldly and fleshy feelings, but, rather unified around our Precious Heavenly Father and His ways.

God doesn't what us to straddle the fence and seek to have  close relationships with the world and still try to hold on to our Biblical values. James 4:4 (KJV)  Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Proverbs 13:20 (KJV)  He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Yes, we should love the world, but they should not be the ones we hang around all the time or strive to be like. Romans 12:1 (KJV)  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:2 (KJV)  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Let's strive and focus on being a light in this lost and dying world . People need the Lord! Let's bring people to the Lord by our witness and testimony.

Thank you,  Daddy and Mama, for standing strong and doing what is right no matter what people think of you! Our family time was so special and it is always so hard to say goodbye.

P.s. Congratulations Timothy and Heidi on tying the knot. We are so happy for you both. May the Lord bless your future together as you seek the Lord.

         Because of Christ, Nurie Keller

Jill’s reply:

Dearest Nurie,  This is an AMAZING post!  👏 🥰  Thank you!  You and your family bring Daddy and I constant joy!  Your desire to honor and love us and spend time with us, blesses our hearts MORE to us than we will ever be able to express!   🥰  You (as the eldest sibling) have set an excellent example to your siblings.  We love you!  ❤️  Mama & Family

An entire post apparently bashing Heidi's family and Timothy for beliefs ever so slightly different from her mama's, Nurie tacks on the congratulations to tim and heidi for tying the knot. But she leaves out the god honoring being chaste until marriage part, which was the start of the supposed "satanic attack on the rod family unity"  to begin with.

How bizarre Timothy and Heidi had all these evil, worldly ideals and influences pre marriage, yet somehow they were still able to remain chaste until their wedding day according to their beliefs. It's almost like they used self control and were able to make decisions to do what they believed was right.

As for Jill's response. Does Nurie not remember she is the first born?? Why does Jill need to state this. It doesn't matter what child was unfortunate enough to be born after Nurie, "the angel sent directly to us from heaven". No child could have ever lived up to the idea of perfect Nurie and would have been punished for any and all things that were not like Nurie.

I'm wondering if Jill actually writes these posts and signs Nurie's name.  And then responds to "Nurie" post.  This post does not look like Nurie's usual caps and commas.  I wonder if Nurie actually knows when "she" has a post on line.  Did we ever find out who actually wrote the posted poem?

Why do these people have to use a bible reference in every single post?  I guess they figured out the copy-and-paste functions.  That must have been their English lesson.  Just because you can spit out verses, doesn't mean you know what they mean.  If they took the time to read and understand the bible properly, as opposed to just memorizing it, they would find out Jesus/God was more tolerable than they believed.  It sickens me to see what Jill has done to her children.  She taught them learned helplessness, which will get them nowhere in life.  What are these kids/adults going to do when Jill or David passes away?  They won't know how to live in the real world.    That day will come, and there are going to be 13 people who can't survive because Mamma was too righteous and sanctimonious to teach them better.

I don’t even know what that was all about. Is there an adulterer/ adulteress in their midst?   Are we ranting about Philip arguing with David, Tim arguing with David, Jill arguing with Heidi?  They are arguing along gender lines, according to her quote.
Tim made a point of saying they went to church after their honeymoon.  So stop complaining and be happy they did so

From the pic of Renee they appear to have already arrived in PA to the Sylvania Hills Baptist church. They are scheduled to sing at the old fashion sunday/harvest fest Oct 22.

This seems the usual spot they leave the children and go off on their "planned by david" anniversary get away vacation.

Background in the pics is a match. I remembered the brick from the cd sales.

The idea that a stupid little tempest in a teapot like Jill being an idiot with her children's privacy online (again) has kicked off at least 5 or 6 loooooong "Thank you, jailers, for making us constantly aware of just how much holier than thou we are. We're better than all y'all heathen sinners, [bible quote about adulterers]." posts by the Rodlets makes my head and my heart (and possibly my liver) hurt.

WTF does Nurie mean by families unifying by "fleshy feelings". I don't know about you guys, but when my family hangs it centered on love, fun and usually food.

"I am thankful that within my family is where I find my best friends.  I am thankful that we can be unified NOT by our worldly and fleshy feelings, but, rather unified around our Precious Heavenly Father and His ways."

Oh come on people.  Slide looks hella fun.    Water is a bit dirty.  Actually a lot dirty.    But Little Chaos Theory would have definitely gone down the slide at least once.    The slide wouldn’t have been the issue.   The water….maybe.

Now looking at it grown up Chaos Theory just thinks that there is no way I would net neices and nephews anywhere near that death trap.

Being a grown up sucks.

Is there some correlation with being Fundie and doing activities that are clearly dangerous, unsafe, unsanitary?  Swimming in filth, sliding down hills and taking out animals on the way down, not watching your kid until he falls into an open orchestra pit, dragging sick kids on a family photo op vacation, etc.  Are they purposely courting danger for - reasons?  I know they love the idea that they are not like the rest of us heathens, but they sure seem to enjoy throwing caution to the wind.  I know Jill isn't the sharpest eyeliner in the box, but even she has to know that allowing her kids to fly down a homemade slide and land in a shallow pool of brown water can't be smart.  Does she somehow WANT someone to get hurt?

These girls must live in a state of constant anxiety, waiting for Jill to ask (insist) that they produce a minimum 250-word document extolling the virtues of Jill and how she is always right.  I actually think Jill demands the essay, corrects and adds to it herself and then posts it as one of her kids.  Whatever is going on, it's messed up that her girls are basically being told to go against their brother in favor of their mother. Jill must be loving the divisions she's causing.  Fantastic parenting.

My opinion is that it’s a sort of roll your eyes, unkind hand signal to everyone that doesn’t think like they do.     People who consider  the modern medical and other advances to be a good thing. People that they consider ‘woke’.   The Rods seem to think that the morals, beliefs, attire of centuries past are better than today. That it’s better to swim in filth in your street clothes than to go in a pool with swimsuits because that’s how it was done a couple hundred years ago.  That it’s better to be exposed to various diseases than to be vaccinated.

However they are more than happy to take advantage of modern things when it suits them.
