Ms Blue Jay February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 (edited) Waited the entire hour to see a message about Harris at the end. My DVR cut it off, even with taping the show after. Of course. Did anyone see anything? Was there anything? I know it's a small problem that the DVR always cuts off the last minute, but it's frustrating. Maybe it's the network that is broadcasting it, I don't know. Edited February 25, 2015 by Ms Blue Jay Link to comment
Galileo908 February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 Anyone have any last minute predictions about the ending? Me? Either another timeskip, or it turns out that the entire show was all in Jean-Ralphio's mind, looking into a snow globe with Li'l Sebastian inside. 1 Link to comment

Maybe it's the network that is broadcasting it, I don't know. It was just a card at the end that said We Love You, Harris, - The Parks Crew. I thought the finale was overly sentimental. I don't think I'm spoiling anything to say everything turns out wonderfully for our protagonists, they're all rich and successful and happy. Also, the older I get, the less I like it when successful adults define themselves by the one group they hung out with years ago, at a completely different time in their lives. Also, it aired 2 hours earlier in Canada, which seems like a big final fuck you from NBC. Edited February 25, 2015 by Obviously 10 Link to comment

Galileo908 February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 (edited) Yep, not ready for this. Avoid my post, I spoil EVERYTHING. Well, I was right about more time skips. This time EVERYONE got their ending, in different flash forwards. Donna - 2023. Still married to Joe and starts Teach Yo Self! Craig - 2019. He hooks up with Typhoon! The fact that he had total disdain towards his entire relationship was totally him. He settled. And hey, Ron was the best man at their wedding! Andy & April - 2022. Burt Macklin & Janet Snakehole! Ha, it's Halloween. "Sandra Dee O'Connor" is a costume only Leslie would come up with. And We have to wait 7 years for Cones of Dunshire- Winds of Temorrah?! April giving birth in zombie makeup to "Monster Mash" was the best. And the baby's name being Jack for "Jack O'Latern" was so great. "I have so many presents, it's weird." "Yes! Oh, it's for the baby..." Jean-Ralphio - 2022. Dead. But it's totally him to fake his own death to start a casino in Tajikastan with Mona Lisa. Love that his loud sing-gloating blew his cover. Tom - 2019. After hooking Craig up with Typhoon, Tom wants to expand. And failed. but then wrote a best-selling self-help book about his failures. Remember: Don't Be A Garry. Ben won the election! And still wanted Tom to add Calzones to the menu. The country ran out of beef in 2019?! How did Ron deal with this?! Tom's Bistro really should've added calzones. Jerry/Garry - 2017. Elected mayor through write-ins! And kept winning! I freaking LOVED that Gayle still looked the same when Garry was 100. And he died peacefully after his 100th birthday. That his name was misspelled on his tombstone was the perfect capper. Ron - 2022. He's now 51% owner of Lagavulin! And after accomplishing everything in his life, he's put in charge of Pawnee National Park. He still lives in Pawnee, he walks the park, rows his boat and talk to bears. What's not to like for an ending for him? He became Teddy Roosevelt. And the country got beef back! "Qualifications: You're Ron Swanson." Damn straight. Leslie & Ben - 2025. Leslie spends hours at Biden's place! (EDIT: 2025 as a setting neatly avoids bringing up the issue of Biden ever being elected president. In 2025 he could've been done with two terms.) Leslie AND Ben were vetted to run for Governor of Indiana?! Now THAT'S a plot. And Cones of Dunshire: Winds of Temorrah is successful! The kids! Now we know all their names: Sonia, Stephen and Bobby. Oh, I was as happy as Leslie when Ann & Chris showed up. Sure, I knew they were coming (thank you, opening credits and news outlets spoiling their return), but I as still happy. Ann had another kid! And named her Leslie. And you know, Ann and Leslie's kids ending up with each other would be a perfect ending for their friendship. "Your hair looks amazing. You look like a cartoon princess." And Leslie is finally aware of how horrible her hair always looks. "Ann, you opalescent tree shark." So April goes with the Daria look as a mom. I like it. Leslie - 2035. She was a two-term Governor! And she got...a library named after her. THAT was the perfect ending for her. And we end on a blooper reel and a tribute to Harris Wittels. That the final shot was Garry in the coffee pot suit was truly the best ending. I don't want to leave Pawnee. I don't. But this was LITERALLY the best ending. I think I said "ending" about 10 times in this post. Edited February 25, 2015 by Galileo908 16 Link to comment

TeeVee329 February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 So much I can comment on, but for now... ANN PERKINS! I loved how hard Leslie shoved Ben away from her (perfect reaction shot from Adam Scott) when she went to hug Ann. tennisgurl February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 That was literally the best series finale ever. It had some great jokes, but it was mostly about spending time with these great characters we have come to love, and seeing what happened to them, as well as emphasizing this shows big lesson lesson: making the world a better place will bring you happiness. Finding people to share that happiness with will make it even better. Gary`s ending hits that lesson perfectly. He got dumped on for years, while staying the nicest, most optimistic guy in the world, and he ended up with everything he ever wanted. Sniffle...sniffle...I`m ok....stop looking at me! 9 Link to comment

Completely agree......it wasn't a bad ending, but it wasn't like an hour long version of "........and they lived happily ever after" In fact that is what half this season has felt like. But it was easily enjoyable. A couple of questions though.....so Garry/Jerry dies at 100, that has to be long after 2035 when leslie is governor, at the funeral secret service are there, does that mean Ben or Leslie is president? And not really important but just curious, the episode implies Ben is a republican congressman. If he was the democratic congressman it would not make sense for he and leslie to both be vetted for the governor spot. The same party would not seriously consider two candidates to the point of telling one they are favored without everyone knowing then the other was not favored by the party Anyway it made much more sense for Leslie to run, for all the reasons ben stated. SHe is the native Hoosier, mostly, and it was her lifelong dream, not his. Link to comment

doodlebug February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 (edited) It seems to me that Leslie must be president. In the speech at the graduation, the school president said she has gone on to bigger things after her 2 terms as governor. And, it did indeed look like they had Secret Service agents with her and Ben at Garry's funeral. As far as the time lapse between her term as governor and Garry's death; the POTUS gets Secret Service protection for the rest of his/her life. She would've been out of office, The only thing missing was seeing Andy as Leslie's chief of security like he was on her run for city council. I must be a sentimental sap, but I loved it. It might not have been fitting for most shows, but Parks and Rec has always been a sweet show with a heart of gold and I thought this was a fine ending for it. DrSpaceman February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 This reminded me of the exact opposite of the How I Met Your Mother finale last year They wasted a year on stupid stories centered around a wedding for a marriage that lasted about 5 minutes in TV time and pissed everyone off with a stupid twist and killing the character we all waited years to see. Here they sum up the future lives of all the characters in an hour and the only death is Garry/Jerry many years later, plus it was completely enjoyable. 14 Link to comment

The only thing missing was seeing Andy as Leslie's chief of security like he was on her run for city council. The only thing with that is that they don't really say specifically; all that's implied by that speech is that she's finished her terms as governor (because you only get two) and she's off to "unknown adventures." I think they purposefully left it ambiguous, and I'm okay with that. It brings me great joy that either one of them ends up President. 3 Link to comment

Ah man......that would have been the best. Burt Maclin, head of secret service. I thought they said at the IU speech she was headed for bigger things after her 2nd term, not that she had gone on to bigger things already. Either way, Leslie would be the more likely one if she became governor. Governors are more likely to be elected president than Congressman/women, in general Link to comment

The scene with the Secret Service agent seemed like it was filmed to create ambiguity there. I'm not sure what the line about Leslie having a bigger thing to move onto was about - that was 2035, right? Even if she ran in 2036 and won, she wouldn't be president in 2048. I guess there are a lot of different ways to interpret that. Maybe she ran the first time in 2036 and lost, then won in 2040. POTUS gets Secret Service protection for the rest of his/her life. Not any more -- now its 10 years after the end of term. Clinton was the last President to get lifetime protection from the Secret Service. ETA: Until this was reverted back to lifetime protection by President Obama on Jan. 10, 2013.
