Whitney Thore: So She Thinks She Can Dance

Some of last season's episodes are on and am watching the dance battle one--proof Whitney can't dance? Everyone can do the moves better than she can! She can barely get her feet off the ground, it looks ridiculous. If anyone were to be "cut", it should have been HER! And the radio interview was hilarious when they messed with her use of the word precipice, they knew what it meant and Idiot-ny assumes the need a dictionary. One up on ya, Whit. She really can't read people or realize when she's being made fun of.

Thanx for the tip. I see it's a marathon of last year leading to the new season.

ETA: They're filming belly dancing at Daliana's dance studio now where there's a huge sign on the wall:

DANCE

WITH YOUR

SHOES OFF

Kinda shows how fake Twit's "concern" about "her" girls is when she lit into Todd.

Working from home today so I have TLC on in the background so I can catch up with the past season.  Would she even have audiences at any of her ridiculous performances if her parents weren’t sitting in the crowd every single time?  Do adults really have their parents attend everything they do as a professional adult? If so, someone let me know so that I can start inviting my parents every time I have to give a PowerPoint presentation.

Babs, Glenn -  she’s not five years old. She’s not having a tiny tots dance recital. Stop indulging your big baby.

Whitney gets paid $1.5 million dollars for her show. I read it somewhere, I forgot where..   If she lost weight, there would be no show and no money.  I am sure her parents and friends gets money as well.  The radio show she supposedly worked at Maney said they didn't get a single dime for being on her show.

Not according to season 1 plot line--she was interested in improving her health. Even if she lost 200 lb, she'd still be overweight, but feeling way more fabulous (and maybe actually able to pick up her feet). I was so on board with this, and then the show turned into the circus it is now. I used to root for her, now I just hate watch.

I could be your twin turtlepower!  I too, started out to really like her in season 1 and 2.  I liked Buddy and even Whitney because she was taking control of her life, and turning it around for the positive, then, like you said, it turned and is now the way it is now just like you said  :)

No, no, no, no. If she gets more than $100,000 per season, it would be a surprise.

The figure you quote comes from one of those websites that estimates celebs' net worth. I've seen guesses from $750,000 to the $1.5 million you mention. I' m assuming the estimates are based on presumed salary, real estate & possible income from business ventures, speakers bureau, endorsements & similar.

Twit tried to get Nit-Whits to pay $2,000 for a FL vacay for her cousin. One of them, believing what she had read about Twit's net worth, innocently asked why Twit didn't foot the bill herself. Twit blew her top & sicced her rabid fans on the poor woman.

Watching these old episodes, the scene where Maddie brings over fried chicken and pie when Todd confronts Whit, then Whit's like "nobody saved me any fried chicken!!! Thank god Maddie brought pie!" and then Whitney has the BIGGEST SLICE OF PIE EVER on her plate. It's seriously a 500-600 calorie piece of pumpkin pie. But yeah, Whit, it's all PCOS that made you fat.

Truth. She had to co-sign a mortgage with her dad for a modest house in Greensboro. There is no way she makes 7 figures. I'd be surprised if she made 6, even. TLC knows Whit is dirt-cheap "entertainment."

Doesn't apply here, because the most professional she got, was an internship.  We're still at dance recital/T-ball game stage.
As to salary, I always got the impression that TLC does not  pay big salaries, but don't know.

They pay the 600 lb life people next to nothing (maybe $4,000 which includes moving expenses, plus some random fast food) AND they have to be shown taking a shower.

Same. I love my cat and sometimes I'll stick my face in her face for a headbutt and she wants to smell my nose instead, but the last thing I'd do is smell her breath or stick my tongue in her face.

On topic: I loved seeing Todd dance compared to Whitney. He was actually doing spins and leaps! I have zero doubt those students are making more progress and learning more under him than her.

I like Todd. Whitney treats him like crap and it delighted me to see her upset with how he was doing class. Because she CAN'T do those things. Bring on the panic attack!

I agree with the posters above. I don't think she gets that much.  Like they said, Dad co-signed her home and she has Buddy renting from her and was pretty peeved when he was behind on the rent.

I'm wondering if she will be getting the surgery eventually for her health for the show. I mean how much more can they (TLC) milk this?

This post is commenting on a little bit of everything from My Big Fat Fabulous Life. I loved the original premise of the show but that was thrown out after the first season. I am going to address some things I read from other peoples posts.People have commented why didn't Whitney fly home when she quit the tour, instead of having her friends come pick her up,well it is because of her weight. I highly doubt she would fit in an airline seat. I weight exactly 224 lbs, thank you Dr. Torre's nurse for saying it out loud, I asked her not to. I consider myself very overweight. I c.an barely get the planes seat belt fastened. I would be mortified the day I had to ask for a seat belt extender so I find a way to get that thing fastened. I have a very legitimate reason for my weight gain.Instead of just believing me ,which I know most won't,here are some of the reasons I have gained weight. I have had multiple foot tumors, an open foot wound for 8 months after tumors were removed, osteomyelitis (infection in the bones of my foot) needing half the bones in my foot removed, multiple surgeries, then I broke my tibula, fibula, and ankle while I was recovering from one of my 8 foot surgeries. Add in 30 years of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, 10 spinal cord tumors that has basically had me on bed rest for the past 6 years.I know that sounds nuts but that is my reality. Thank God my husband is a physician so I have gotten the best medical care out there. Even being basically immobile for all this time, I only gained 60 pounds. That is with basically just hobbling or wheelchairing it to the bathroom was my only activity. Unless you can count pressing the remote control. I also quit smoking at the beginning of the 6 years. Plus I know a lot about PCOS and the most weight you would gain from that would be about 30-60 pounds. That is it. And the medical community concurs. Whitney didn't gain all this weight from PCOS. Her horrible eating habit have caused most of her weight gain. What makes me sad is that all those losers that hang with her are dependent upon her for a salary. So they are not interested in her losing weight. The only people interested in that are her parents and for her health. Glenn has worked for the same company for 30 years. He put his kids through college and Babs hasn't had to work. He is successful. He doesn't need to be and I don't think he wants to be on TV but he does it to support Whit.I think a better show would be about Babs and Glenn.Babs especially how she is not letting a stroke stop her. They both know that this Avi thing is a bust and from my research, she dated this Avi guy before Leni! All the posts on Whitney's social media accounts and the girl from Egypt accounts also. So this whole thing with Avi happened a while ago. Quite a while ago. It is also very obvious to me that Todd hates Whitney. He cannot stand the fact that she became famous , got a TV show from a video that he posted called "Fat girl Dancing" I mean his contempt is so obvious. I am not sure what is going on with Buddy but he is giving me such a creepy vibe lately. Heather needs to consider herself lucky and move on with her life. Also does Heather not have custody of her kids? How can she have sleep overs at Buddy's house when she has 3 school age kids? Can someone enlighten me on that? What was Whitney's job before she got the TLC show? Don't tell me it was teaching English overseas. My niece did that for a year in Spain because the job market sucked in USA when she graduated college.Pay is minimal. After a year she came back and has fantastic job. The best Whitney could get was basically being a mascot for a sports team.I think that was staged for show so I wouldn't consider that a real job. I can't think that fitness guy actually hired her because there is no way she could keep up with him on tour. She was half-assing all the dance moves when they showed us rehearsing. Then they go to her hotel room and show her shoving junk food in her face. I mean I guess if you are getting paid for being fat and fabulous why lose weight? I am not against Whitney, I think it is a very sad situation. She has all these people telling her how wonderful she is and her life. I don't think so. She wants a husband and children and her weight is preventing that. When you gain that much weight as a female your testosterone increases and she will have an incredibly difficult time getting pregnant. Well I  could go on for days and days about this. What is saddest is she won't see 40 if she keeps on this path. You cannot be morbidly obese and healthy. The two do not go hand in hand. You are not fit when you weigh over 400 pounds. I am not fit at 224. TLC can come do a show about me and how life sucks when you have had 68 major surgeries in the past 27 years. I am a medical train wreck, and I acknowledge that. I am trying to fix them ,except for the RSD there is no cure, no treatment no research either. But I am watching what I eat, I am asking for smaller portions and I lie here doing leg lifts. No matter how limited you are physically you can find a way to do something.Whitney doesn't seem willing to make any lifestyle changes at all. I think the show has taken a completely different turn than when it started and it is just sad, sad, and sadder. Sorry one more thing, I converted to Judaism after 18 years of marriage to my wonderful husband, now 32 years of marriage and Whitney would never get past the Bat Din. This is a Jewish Legal Tribunal consisting of 3 Rabbi's. They ask you questions about why you are converting to make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. Whit would never make it past them. Have a good night you all.

I disagree - I think it would totally revitalize the show!  People wanted to see her do well; people wanted to see Ruby lose weight, the Biggest Loser, Celebrity Fit Club, etc. etc. etc. are things people like to watch.  It's her fault we hate watch her, but I think most people enjoy seeing someone in her situation do well and improve their life if they are honest and really try!

Whatever she does this season, I do hope that her experience with the Fitness Marshall has persuaded her that she has neither the skills, nor the stamina to pursue a career as a dancer, at least not one who is actually trained and capable of putting on a dance performance. I'm not sure what a "dance career" looks like to a morbidly obese woman with bad knees in her mid-thirties, who can't sustain aerobic activity for more than a minute or two, has no work ethic, no real technical skills, no real choreographic skills, is unable to do spins, turns or jumps, has poor balance, smokes, and needs to be front and center at all times.  Why didn't she just stick to organizing her Zumba-lite classes aimed at students who felt too fat or self-conscious to dance in any other environment? She could have a thriving chain of franchises by now, with Todd doing most of the actual training and teaching of new staff, and I bet she'd have a hell of a lot more money than TLC is paying her.

I absolutely agree. It was heartbreaking to watch Ruby fail. In retrospect she acted like the addict that she was/is. Lying, cheating, manipulating everyone around her to get her fix. What ever happened to her?

Whitney's entourage is so codependent that none of them dare mention her diet, weight, health, etc. They are all along for the ride. Its a shame.

Bellydancing doesn't involve much jumping and hopping around. Um kind of agreeing with Whit on this subject. They should wear whatever gear would be appropriate for aerobics.

THIS. When I think about it, it astonishes me how much money she left on the table by not franchising BGDC. My god, one good year or two of hustle and she would have been set for life, if modestly. How lazy do you have to be to forego a chance to be lazy for life because it would mean a little short-term hard work? It’s such a shame to pass up that kind of opportunity; I’d almost feel bad for her, except she’s such a miserable, hateful person.

Ruby is still moderately active on Facebook.  If she posts a picture, it's from the neck up.  She posted a picture at New Years and had her minions stand in front of her so all you could see was her face.   Hey, losing weight is hard, if not nearly impossible when you are that big.  At least she has some shame.  She should suck it up, get the surgery and be done with it.

Yeah, you would have to start with an actual business plan (forget the lawyers marketers, accountants, etc. you would need to hire).  It would total interrupt her laying in bed and eating chips time.  Plus, she's no Mark Zuckerberg.  She would have to put on an actual business suit/dress professionally to meet potential investors or franchisors.  Oh the horror!

Speaking of Ruby - maybe a prerequisite of getting your own reality tv show if you are morbidly obese is to have a fondness for making up nonsensical words.

Sorry but who is this Ruby person you speak of?

She was an obese woman who had a show where she was going to work on herself and lose weight and live life while doing so!  She lived in Savannah I believe, with a small circle of female and gay male friends who were always there helping her out and cheering her on, while she passive-aggressively took advantage of them.  Sound familiar?  Since weight loss was her main premise (fabulosity was 2nd) she did go to her nutritionist and trainers and therapist and showed herself weighing in, and did well for a while, but off season would gain weight and eventually stopped  losing on the show as well, preferring to film wacky hijinks, and we found out later that she admitted to pigging out in secret.  She also had an "ex-boyfriend" who would show up once in a while to cause drama, and due to her southern-sweetie style, got away with being an asshole for much longer than Whitney did.  She was as ignorant about nutrition as Whit too (anyone remember the Thanksgiving dinner where she went through more than one bottle of spray on butter because she thought it had no calories? :). One thing she claimed was that she couldn't remember anything from her childhood, and the show gave definite vibes and hints that she had been molested, but always veered away then.  As a viewer, I found it annoying - the equivalent of someone saying, "I was thinking about telling you something, but I'd better not . . ."  That was the cliffhanger upon which they ended her final season, but the show was then cancelled.  I think she tries to "counsel" people online now or something.

Whitney is definitely Ruby 2.0. Same spiel. When Ruby starting airing, we were all rooting for her we ight loss. As the seasons went on and her weight didn't move, it became clear that there was a lot of bullshit going on and Ruby wasnt giving us the full story.

Personally, I don't think a redemption arc would work for Whitney, because she's gone too far, in the way she treats people, and her bullshit claims.

I’d have to agree with you. She seems to subscribe to the do as I say, not as I do. From day one she’s treated her friends and family horribly. She won’t do any work for herself and the whole stint at the radio station (as fake as it was) was just unprofessional. Short of joining a convent there’s nothing redeemable for her.
