ams1001 June 29, 2020 Share June 29, 2020 Over the weekend I was watching Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj videos on youtube, and he has a segment on how America is making the rest of the world obese. One of the risks of obesity he lists, along with things like heart disease and stroke, is "getting your own TLC show." 😄 On 5/31/2020 at 5:29 PM, DC Gal in VA said: So I'll see your puzzles and raise you Sudoku!😊 I've never been able to get my head around Sudoku... I have more or less been living in a particular pair of old, worn jeans, which are kinda stretched out so were already loose, but now they are hitting so low on my hips I had to roll up the cuffs. I'm not complaining but part of it is that I simply don't eat that much when I'm home. I've been trying to at least make what I do eat be healthier stuff, but that doesn't always work out. Ugh, I know. I've been shopping Old Navy's website because I have a gift card and they have masks (sets of five in cute patterns and colors) and I will be going back to work two days a week starting in July (then three in August, then back to normal in September; at least that's the plan as of now). I wanted to get a set of masks which are $12.50 and then I wanted to try to use up the rest...but I have no idea what sizes to get! And even if I felt safe to do so, the store in the mall here is still only open for curbside pickup so I can't go try things on. I used to be able to buy jeans and t-shirts from there without even trying them on but those days are long gone. I have a couple sweaters I bought last year that are size large so I'm going with that and hoping for the best. I have a cute tee in my cart, plus some basic tanks and a couple pairs of leggings which I will most likely only wear around the house anyway. My card is $64 (because my brother is a goofball...he gave me three gift cards for Christmas - B&N for $32, ON for$64 and Kohls for $96**) so I'm trying to spend that much but not too much more. And I had a cart I was about ready to go with on Sunday night, but it was getting late so I decided to do it the next day, and when I got back to it last night three of the items had been removed because they were out of stock and then I was about $20 short of my gift card amount. So I browsed some more and hopefully they're all still there when I go to lunch. **He turned 47 in March so I gave him a bookstore card for $25.47 😁 3 Link to comment

So I'll see your puzzles and raise you Sudoku!😊 Try jigzone. com. You can select the number of pieces and also the shapes. I started doing online puzzles because of The Cat. I was doing sudoku like crazy for a few weeks; I now have books of the Monday and Wed NY Times crosswords. We were doing a little cleaning earlier in the Rona, and I found a hardbound spiral crossword book that had belonged to my mother. It was published the same year she died, and she had only done two puzzles. I finished it a few weeks ago. Mr. Twopper is doing cryptograms; the book has a section of quotes by presidents so he is figuring out the authors before trying to solve the quote. I need to eat less and exercise more. I am so sick of preparing meals 3 times a day; I had no idea how often we ate out. I do know how to cook from scratch but it is much easier to get a casserole from the nearby gourmet grocery and just add a salad, Unfortunately, I have also been adding wine and dessert. And I am binge watching too much tv. I bought the cotton candy grapes today. I think I won't buy them again. Because it is Wed, I feel compelled to report my eating habit for tonight. Mexican chicken casserole, green beans. Lime sherbet and some type of cookie for dessert. I was going to make brownies but it is already 5;30. I bought peaches at the farmer's market to make a peach cobbler tomorrow. Not sure how that goes with lasagna, but I guess we will find out. 3 Link to comment

I have one peach and three bananas and blueberries and cherries to eat in the next few days, and a bag of lettuce I should probably use tonight. I also have chicken in the fridge and meatballs in the freezer so I will have to make those soon. And I need to figure out lunch options that can live in my bag with an ice pack and don't need heating for when I go back to the office (no fridges, no microwaves, for the foreseeable future, to promote distancing, though that's probably less necessary in the office area where not everyone goes to lunch at the same time; cafeteria is closed. They are opening the vending machines, with cleaning supplies nearby so people can wipe them down, but there's nothing particularly healthy in there). I will probably start with egg salad sandwiches and some cut veggies for next week, but that will get old. Ideas welcome. I just ate a Pepperidge Farm Lemon Milano cookie. I wouldn't have thought I'd like lemon and chocolate together but I was wrong. I've also been drinking strawberry lemoneade or limeade with vodka the last few nights because the vodka bottle is almost empty and I'm at the point where I just want it out of my house. Maybe tonight I'll switch it up and mix it with ginger beer. Might need it if I'm gonna live chat on Rena and Lee again. 2 Link to comment

Not a lot of takeout options, either, at least not that are worth the aggravation of going out. Could be worse; at least I have my own space and drawers to keep my lunch bag in, away from other people's stuff. The warehouse workers don't really have that option. (There are lockers but I don't think everyone has one. Not sure how locker assignment works. Most people put their lunch bags on shelving near the cafeteria, or in the breakrooms in other parts of the warehouse, depending on what area they work in.) I may have posted that in this forum; I know I have discussed it elsewhere so feel free to ignore if I am repeating myself. I have had a terrible time just locating a package of Grapenuts. I finally got 3 large boxes of GrapeNut Flakes from Amazon. Then last week I finally found them the chain supermarket; I grabbed up 3 boxes and left maybe 6. They still have no paper towels when I go. Plenty of tp, now. I went yesterday, and it was so crowded. They were nearly out of a lot of stuff, but it may be because of the upcoming 4th of July weekend. Our neighborhood parade for the 4th is still on schedule, but the concert and fireworks are not. I may go to the corner and watch from a safe distance. 19 hours ago, ams1001 said: And I need to figure out lunch options that can live in my bag with an ice pack and don't need heating for when I go back to the office (no fridges, no microwaves, for the foreseeable future, to promote distancing, though that's probably less necessary in the office area wh Years ago, I had to do this for my daughter when the school had no cafeteria. I used to send shrimp with cocktail sauce which she loved but it appalled all the other kids. Honey baked ham sandwiches are good, if you aren't vegetarian. Cold chicken? I love cold fried chicken as well, but it is messy. If you have a really good thermos, you could take soups, too. If possible, also use multiple ice packs. I have a large insulated carrier that looks like a carry-on suitcase with plenty of room for drinks and food. 14 hours ago, nokat said: Meat is so expensive these days. A 4th of July Ribeye sounds wonderful. I usually share one steak so I don't feel too guilty with cost or calories. It also happens rarely. I can't wait to get back to a dine-in steak place. I was considering a Boston butt for the holiday, but it is only the two of us so I got a package of the bun length Hebrew National hotdogs, buns from the bakery, potato salad, and watermelon. Also we had a Boston butt recently, and it lasted forever and ever. 17 hours ago, nokat said: I bought a bundle from Dell years ago. There were crosswords, cryptoquizzes, and figgerits. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to sudoku, but I do enjoy it. I'm laughing that you went to online puzzles because of The Cat. Puzzle pieces will go missing, and the favorite cat spot to sleep will be on the puzzle. Pieces also will be chewed on. She knocked several pieces on the floor which managed to bounce into one of Mr Twopper's shoes. He was not happy the next time he put them on; the way he carried on, you would think she had put Legos in it. I miss that cat. 17 hours ago, ams1001 said: I have some old stripped crossword magazines from when I worked in a bookstore hanging around my house, and also some stripped copies of mass market NYT Crossword books. I should start doing them. I also have a Boggle book (I used to get the page-a-day calendar years ago and would do it at lunch every day, but they stopped making it). And some word searches. And on my tablet I have a game called A Way With Words which is a reverse word search; you get three letters at a time and you place them to create words and in the end it looks like a regular word search that hasn't been done yet. Anyone watching Rena and Lee rerun? Ugh, no thanks to watching an encore performance of Rena and Lee. She is meh, and he is several degrees past horrid. I like logic puzzles. For the longest time I could get England's Best Logic Puzzles (I think that was the title) thru Penny Press. I still have a few left. I don't like the Puzzle Baron series as much. 1 Link to comment

I eat a lot of yogurt with whatever fresh fruit is available, and now that you reminded me I need to buy some Grapenuts. It sounds like it might be hard to find. I have boiled eggs and potatoes chilling in the fridge for potato salad. I like the Hebrew National hot dogs, but I currently have Applegate beef hot dogs. I go out grocery shopping about twice a month and I really can't expect a lot of the usual food to be in stock. Edited July 2, 2020 by nokat Link to comment

I am back to once a week, plus an occasional foray into the nearby gourmet grocery for the casseroles they make. For the first two months of this mess, 3 sets of neighbors did all our shopping. If I don't see something when I shop, I can still ask them to look. They go to more places in search of things they need than we feel comfortable going. Not sure if Amazon has GrapeNuts again; if so, they are probably more costly than the local stores. Over the years, we have played dozens of games of Pandemic in its varieties. I may never want to play again. 2 Link to comment

I wish I had looked for Grapenuts the last time I was in Target. They didn't have a couple things I wanted but I got toilet paper. I'm laughing at you having to "steal back" your gel packs. I have the ones I used in my lunch bag. I have an Igloo too that I use for groceries. 1 Link to comment

If you live in an area with a Kroger (or one of the Kroger family of grocers), they have an off-brand version of Grape Nuts that’s nearly half the price! Link to comment
