Sorry to see Laura go. I loved her "I Love Lucy" type life story. Yeah, what was up with the starting with the high dollar clues? I hate that.

Who was the person that earring guy met? I missed that.

Being a hugh Springsteen fan, I'm ashamed to admit I said Asbury Park for FJ.

He met Lucille Ball in an elevator and then Laura came along with her I Love Lucy Life, which was a LOT more interesting.

I guess they were thinking Bruuuuuce was giving the speech that would've put Chicago into the RnRHoF. But I thought E Street was way easy - and I'm not even that big a fan.

I forgot the name of Bruce Springsteen's band so I went with Philadelphia.

I don't mind the contestants looking around for the DD's but starting at the bottom of every category was annoying to me.

I like the new champ.

That's what I was thinking, too. I was picturing a Kennedy Center type award show where people give little speeches before the recipient gets the medal or whatever. I didn't even think of The E Street Band. Maybe I would have if I didn't have it in my mind that Springsteen was not one of the recipients. You want to know the first band that came to mind? Alabama. Then I thought, no… Maybe Kansas. Asia?

If I didn't happen to know that David Sancious was for a short time in Springsteen's band I too would have gotten caught up in the phrasing.  When someone is inducted into the R&RHOF there is a tribute speech not by the inductee and then (often, if they are there) an acceptance speech by the artist. The first speech is always there whether or not there's a second.  By "induction speech" I would have thought they were looking for examples of the first.

I'm in Kansas, so I'll miss Laura. I was rooting (sp?) for her. I hear her a lot on our local NPR (KPR). I have always wondered why her folks named her Laura Lorson. Such an unfortunate alliterative name.

I don't think it's a bad sounding name at all.  But I figured it was her married name anyway.

Bruce did give the induction speech for the E Street band, they were put into the hall seperatly from Bruce. He was inducted in 1999 and the E street Band was inducted in 2014 and he gave the longest most boring that was all about him speech.

I could barely watch tonight what with all the starting at the highest dollar clues.

Amen. What is UP with that anyway?

My yelling "I hate you!" every time that happened is causing my husband to seriously start worrying about me :D

I don't give a fig about the Hall one way or another, but that's a perfect example of why so many music fans diss it.  I never heard of the band going in separately, but I looked it up and they had to invent a special category to get them in since without Brooce there's no reason on Earth they could justify it under the same rules everybody else plays by.

I finally got all caught up on the last few episodes when I woke up really early this morning and had time before work.

The last few FJs were hit or miss for me--I got JFK for president when Obama was born because he is a few months younger than my brother, who was really quite freaked out when he realized that the new president was younger than him. But, I totally missed Juliette Low. I got hung up looking at the year of 1912 and first thinking of suffragettes, and then went with Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood as the organization.

That made me say, "WTF?"  Do you suppose they thought E Street was too obvious?

I answered E Street, then started to second-guess myself because it just seemed so obvious.  I almost switched to Chicago, thinking that Bruce had made the speech for their induction but then decided to just stick with my initial answer.  So I kinda understand what they were thinking.

That Vatican city clue was WAY too easy for a DD in the Double Jeopardy round -- especially when Swiss soldiers were mentioned.

I can't believe that Velociraptor was the answer to a a $2000 clue in the Dinosaurs category because it was also way too easy -- thanks to Jurassic Park and its sequels that's probably the most well known dino next to T. Rex (there's even a basketball team named for it).  The clue even gave the first letter and that it was fast.  What else would it have been ?

Tonight, James Bond was the first thing that popped into my head for FJ.

The new champ reminds me of someone, but I can't figure out who -- does she remind anyone else of someone?

Maybe she does, but I'm not sure who--perhaps a young version of Phyllis from The Office? I liked her, at any rate. She seemed almost timid, but she knew her stuff.

I can't tell you what suggested "James Bond" to me, since I've never read any of the books and seen all of 2 movies, neither of which was Casino Royale.

I like the new champ, she seems pretty personable and her surprise at knowing the answer was more endearing than off-putting.

The velociraptor clue was $2000? I thought they had skipped around and that was the first clue, not the LAST one. Holy balls.

Cee-Lo Green technically could be correct for "Crazy" but I know why it was not allowed.

I'm sorry.  I'm old.  Nobody did "Crazy" but Patsy Cline.  Maybe Willie Nelson, because he wrote it, but nobody touches Crazy like Ms. Cline.

I'm not sure how I arrived at Bond, James Bond so quickly, but it seemed logical.  I thought of Marlowe, too, but he's early L.A. - no casinos.

I don't know how I immediately pulled James Bond from my addled brain, but I did.

And I agree, Prevailing Wind, the song Crazy belongs to Patsy Cline.

ETA - Oh, I got Caligula, too.

Why was that not allowed?

I like when Jen giggled about giving the answer Ewing (Patrick) when the male contestant's name was also Ewing. I expected Alex to make a comment, but it seemed to pass by everyone else.

Did nobody watch "I Claudius?" I remember the scene when Caligula smothered Tiberius.

I thought FJ was very easy. The line being about a casino just screamed James Bond to me.

I missed tonight's episode thanks to a power outage (still ongoing, so apparently I will be having a tuna sandwich for dinner instead of the tasty meal I had planned), but I would assume CeeLo Green not being accepted for Crazy refers to the fact the song was recorded by Gnarls Barkley -- which is CeeLo and Danger Mouse together, not just CeeLo.

But, yeah - say Crazy without a year and I first think of Patsy Cline.  Then Gnarls Barkley or Aerosmith.  I like all those songs.

I do enjoy when someone says Danger Mouse with a straight face. But, yeah, back to the original point, for example, The Beatles did Let it Be, not Paul McCartney. Edited by GaryE

Years ago, when I was in high school, a friend and I read all the James Bond books, which we thought at the time were very racy and daring.  Now I snicker at what I remember of them (women fainting after James pleasures them, for example).  But as soon as that line went up on the board, I said "James Bond.'  I kept trying to talk myself out of the answer, but whatdyaknow, it was right.  This from a woman who can't remember half the things I was planning to do today, but I can remember the first line of a book I barely recall reading.

Oh yes, I was shouting "Caligula" at the tv quite loudly.

I didn't get FJ, much to my shame, since I've watched almost all the Bond films (nothing after Daniel Craig's first outing, though, as I think he makes a terrible, humorless James Bond).  Something about the clue sounded like a hard-boiled detective to me and thus I answered Mike Hammer.  Well, first I answered Mickey Spillane, but changed it because I knew Spillane was the author, not the character.

My wife got it, I didn't, even though I read a bunch of the books when I was a teenager and she has never read one.  What screwed me up was the first-person narration.  I didn't remember the books being in first person (don't have any to check).

Well, technically Tiberius was smothered by Macro (played by a very young John Rhys-Davies!), but it was for the benefit of Caligula (played by an even younger John Hurt!!). Love that miniseries--probably the best thing that has ever been on Masterpiece Theatre.

Another one who got James Bond immediately, mostly because I spent a portion of my weekend listening to a podcast talking about both Casino Royale and Skyfall (for me, Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever, just because he is a very dangerous man as portrayed by Craig, much better than Roger Moore, the Bond of my youth, or even Brosnan, the best-looking Bond who got saddled with some pretty weak scripts).

She reminded me a little of Kristen Schaal (appearance-wise).

Thanks for the correction. I know I said I remembered the scene where Caligula smothered Tiberius, but a little voice in my head was saying that it wasn't John Hurt in that scene.

Current champ Jen was smoked by Penny -- and Jen didn't look all that happy about it towards the end.

The two DDs in the Double Jeopardy round were way to easy once again.  FJ was so obvious I can't believe that Penny got it wrong.

Link to comment

She must have smushed the names Higgs-Boson together in her mind.

The Indian tribe that Jen got wrong would have been much more appropriate for the DD in the first round, I think.

Penny knows a lot of shit. Her voice is not one that I find pleasing, but I cannot fault her knowledge.

Wow, Penny was on fire. Jen was making me nervous with bouncing up and down. I don't think her answer of "the 60s" should have been accepted for the Op Art clue. It should have been 1960s since the category wasn't about just 20th century art.

Remember like it was yesterday! I attribute most of what I know about ancient Rome to that brilliantly acted series.

Providing a photo of Mussolini was disappointing.

Yes. Also, her hair reminds me of Princess Leia's.

The only TS I got was Turn of the Screw.

I couldn't think of Higgs' name.

I missed tonight's episode, too (and I never bother to record much of anything other than the occasional film; I have a stack of unused discs because if I'm not home to watch when a show is on, that's pretty well it, as I'm not likely to sit down later to watch).

But even without having seen it -- a picture of Mussolini?!

No chance to record?

I ditched cable over a year ago when I realized I was paying almost $80 a month to watch reruns of L&O that I'd seen so many times, I could quote dialogue (I waited until Leverage was over.)  Now I've got broadcast antennas for both TVs and the DVR doesn't have the proper connection port.  If I get another box to convert, I *could* record, but I'm sick of all these different boxes with remotes. And yet another expense.  It's not all *that* important.

Geena Davis! THAT'S who Penny's voice sounds like. It was driving me nuts, and then suddenly I was like "Ahh, Stuart Little's mom!"

(I mean, I know that isn't her most iconic role, but that's what popped into my head.)

Fair enough. The best thing about recording Jeopardy is you can power thru an episode in 15-20 minutes.

Way to go Kristin. From -200 to the champ.

How the hell old was Jim? He said he has been running for 25 years but I wouldn't have put him out of his twenties.

I had the same thought about Jim. I hope this isn't a racial stereotype, but I've noticed that many Asians tend to look youthful for much longer than Caucasians.

An easy FJ.

Don't you pronounce his name yank-uh-vic? Yet Alex said yank-uh-vich.

I'm sure I would have gotten FJ, but before I saw the show I happened to see a tweet from Weird Al where he says "Wait wait I know this one," along with a screen cap of the clue.
