Ehh. Count me as underwhelmed with the way Wilson's chomping through the scenery. It's harder to portray a life-like, well-rounded character. Playing a schizoid mustache-twirling villain isn't all that difficult. Actors so often say it's fun playing villains that it's become something of a cliché: subtlety takes skill.

There was a reason Wilson's Ben was so often referred to as a plastic mannequin, after all. He doesn't have the skills to pull off playing a real, whole person.

I'm not really convinced Corday wants a renewal. I was thinking about this and it seems like he is writing the show's end. He's seen it through to the 50th and now he's ready to bury it. Literally. He's already closed a lot of characters stories and

he has more to come per the spoiler thread. We're looking at atleast 2 more deaths and 1 more departure that I'm aware of.

He's narrowing down the cast so there's less to write an "ending" for.

I disagree. Corday might not care but Meng and Albert does. The writers are making a better effect than TomSell caring about the history of the characters instead of watering them down or writing them into a corner.

Yes the darkness needs to be toned down a little because I do fear the writers are gonna end up getting way too kill happy and kill another legacy character and it won't be any turning back but this show is on a 20 month up tick in the ratings so the darkness isn't forcing many to turn their tvs off if anything they are gaining viewers.

As for the upcoming death

Daniel

I cant wait for this. This person has worn out its welcome.

The question is how will the ratings look three to six months from now when the anniversary is over. Of course people are tuning in nw to see what happens but it doesn't mean they'll stick around.

THIS. Once the vets are gone, I think it's all over. They've alienated the people who were meh on that by killing everyone. I think they're done.

What vets are going other than Peter? Stephen and MBE are signed long term. Shawn D is leaving but will return long term with BB. Thaao is long term, Drake, Diedre, Kristin all staying.

Robert Scott has a 4yrs contract which means nothing since they can write your character off every 13wk cycle.

We'll see. Folks thought this show was doomed when Deidre and Drake were written off and gone for 2 years but let's face it D&D were phoning it in the last few years prior and didn't want to take paycut like KA/PR did at the time. Some viewers thought the show would be dead in the water when Alison and James decided to go and Eileen went back to YR. I'm definitely not saying Days can keep these highs (even though as a loyal fan, I sure hope so). They will have some weeks down the road. Yet as of right now the writing and storytelling the past year and half has kept people around. I'm also of the belief, Days fans are in the same class as GH ones - ferociously loyal when it comes to sticking around even when the quality is down, but once writers go effin up history best believe their voices will be heard. That's true, but still which vets are gone other than Peter in 6 months? They're already taping 6 months ahead and everyone I listed are still there. In fact Robert was even on set recently.

What makes the Days anniversary different than GH's 40th is that it's not a carousel of revolving door pop in and out appearances. AS is already gone and PR that was it for short appearances. Everyone on screen now are permanent. With the exception of Jason's Shawn D with replacing him with Brandon's

. We haven't even seen the rebuilding of some families yet with Phillip returning permanently, with Belle returning permanently, with Vincent Irizarry joining the cast.

I think it's premature to say everyone's turning out soon because of vets leaving, when nobody is really leaving and there's lots more coming.

I believe all of the vets are staying although Judi Evans has yet to be put on long-term contract. Then again, they really haven't been using her all that much anyway so I doubt it would make a huge difference. KA, SN, MBE, TP, DHs--all are on contract and from what I've read of their recent social media posts, they're all working steadily meaning we'll see plenty of them when the episodes air 6 months from now.

I've said it before but I'll say it again, I'm personally loving the show right now. Yes, it's dark, but it's riveting. Obviously they must be doing something right if they've gained 400K viewers over the past 2-3 months.

Im wondering will Judi get some story once her Guiding Light co star Vincent Irizarry comes on in January. The writers might want to bring their GL chemistry over to Days, but Ive seen that happen with MBE/SN when the network forced them together on GH and it didn't work.

Agreed with your point I highlighted. Daytime follows a lot of what primetime does. No daytime doesn't have rhe budgets anymore to take trips out of the country and build elaborate sets anymore, but the viewers who watch daytime watches primetime. Josh Griffith is definitely taking a lot of his cues from watching a lot of How to get away with murder and old episodes of Revenge.

But at this point it's a whole new crop of characters getting screentime. Ciara, Chase, Joey, Theo and Abe's daughter are all still being fleshed out...which could draw in new viewers, I suppose, but we can no longer follow the stories of folks who already had histories to build off of, like Will, Sonny, Bo and several others about to leave.

With soaps, the viewers are loyal because they come back to see how characters grow and change. Doing good and interesting things with pre-existing characters is the test of whether a show can survive. It's easy to kill off older characters or those you don't want to bother to write for anymore and just bring in new ones you can build from scratch...until you get bored with them.

I didn't find Paige so interesting so I won't miss her, but I thought Xander and Serena could have become interesting mainstays. Obviously Aiden was already on that path when they derailed him. Clyde hung around forever and was well-performed but got the most anticlimactic send-off ever, if you could even call it that.

Seeing them weed out so many folks with potential gives me little confidence in the show's ability to sustain itself moving forward. I get that they brought back some vets who are staying, and that some choices were made to bring resolution (Bo, Clyde, to an extent Will) but I feel like now whatever happens with Rafe, Philip, Belle and Ava had better be amazing stuff or audiences are going to know that come six months from now, it'll all be weeded out yet again.

In two years we've seen the formal departures of several major characters: Bo, Kristen, EJ, Will, Sami and likely soon Stefano won't be on our screens anymore. That's a big chunk of DAYS' core cast right there. We knew there were overdue departures to come eventually, but it is starting to feel like the holes aren't going to be well-filled.

...that said, can someone please recap whatever went down with Sami/John/Andre please? I saw nothing after she was locked up and knew how to escape but kept the details to herself....

Did Roman, Lucas or Eric play any time in her plot? Eric knew she was getting into trouble...did they at least try and payoff his involvement?

Disney, Sami's escape and successful fleecing of the Dimera's happened off screen. One day she was lying on her cot with a self-satisfied smile on her face after outwitting Andre, then all the death, etc., then this week's scene where John and Marlena confronted Andre and found the cell empty. That's that, I guess.

Sami is a lot like Roman (WN's Roman) when it comes to schemes and plans like this.

Heres the thing, while it's understable viewers wanted the 50th to be a joyous occasion, it is also November Sweeps. Days focus is get nominations for the Emmys and get demos ratings. Thusfar they have secured both especially since they have been on a 20 month high to get another renewal by NBC, which is what all fans want.

What this fan wants is balance and a bit of respite from the despair.  It has nothing to do with wanting the 50th to be only joyous.  Days could still score rating wins and Emmy nods by having stories that include more than misery and death.  If you like the show the way it is, great.  I do not.

I also have my doubts that all the people tuning in now will stay with the show if the tone remains this dark.  Several posters in this very small group have already said they've had enough.  Whether that sentiment can be generalized to the larger audience I do not know, but if it does then Days will be back in trouble sooner rather than later.  I sincerely hope TPTB do not squander this opportunity as TIIC over at GH have done.

I agree. This is the real key.  The show isn't really gaining new viewers by the increase in ratings during a 50th celebration as it is getting past viewers to tune back in. It's whether those viewers tune in or tune out after all the big hoopla is over that has the biggest effect on ratings long term. My understanding is that the show is on till Sept. 2016 so of course there are more storylines in the coming months, but it just seems like a lot of plot points and groups of characters are getting narrowed down.

The answers on the fate of the show may depend on how NBC operates. Do they want to maintain a presence in the daytime soap genre? If they ax Days then they are getting out of the game since it's their last one left. So being the "last one standing" on NBC may be to their benefit. On the other hand, if NBC has been looking to get out of the game and has only renewed Days the last few times to let them have their 50th milestone, then the show is probably doomed.

...Hun?? Well I know John confronted Andre with a USB key...what came of that?

Details please.

Nothing really. John just had a blank one. It seems Sami was ahead of Andre, John, and everyone.

Man, but today was hard to watch!  I get that Victor is grieving but his behavior is beyond the pale.  Does he realize that he is talking down and demeaning people who have also lost loved ones?  If anything, he should have even more compassion for Eve who has lost a child.  I'm sure he meant his apology, but how long will the contrition last?

We got our first glimpse of Claire and it's rather jarring to see Hope's daughter and grand-daughter are now the same age.  And I guess the Bradys have forgotten that Will is dead too--Bo's the only place missing at the dinner table.  Nice.

I like Belle's daughter. Immediately seems like a decent actress, but we'll see.

Fynn looks and sounds like he could be Xander's brother. Very weird seeing Victor and Dan introduce two such similar guys within months of each other.

Marlena mentioning Will was great...but did anyone else feel like Deirdre threw that in herself? It sounded very impromptu. I wonder if she - like Alison - was upset by the producer's decision.

The montage of toasts were all about Bo. The throwing in of Will's name was unexpected.

I really love Eve and Justin, for all that we've seen of them together.

Claire recast is much better than Ciara.

So where is Theresa supposed to be? Locked in her room because Victor wouldn't let her sit at the table? She has a full family and she just lost her uncle, why wouldn't she go to the Pub? If they weren't going to have her on today, they could have least written it more logical. Like she and Tate went to her parents since they just lost Paige. They showed Eve today but not Theresa?

I loved that Bo's seat was in-between Steve and Hope. On what planet would Steve not help Hope? Steve\s "can't be apart of it" doesn't sound like him.

That was one depressing Thanksgiving though, was this Bo's funeral? Is that it?

Link to comment

I wanted someone to slap Victor five times. Why can't he shut his mouth just once? I've been over his rancid behavior for quite some time and I'm not giving him a pass because Bo is dead. He's not the only one who lost a loved one. Ar least he can take solace in the fact that Bo died with Hope by his side instead of alone with some plastic piece of shit standing over him. Victor is just a hateful old man and I'm tired of it.

It's nice to see that almost everyone has forgotten about Will. And if they weren't going to have Lucas at the pub they could have at least given us a throwaway line about him and Sami meeting up somewhere to have thanksgiving with the kids. It's also nice to see that they couldn't be bothered to bring back any of the other Brady's for once episode. I guess they spent most of the budget on those porno lights outside of Abifail and Serial Killer's apartment.

Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't a good idea to have so much misery happen before the holiday.

If Will was mentioned, I'm very glad to hear it because I kept waiting and waiting.  Where's an empty chair for him?  Couldn't the Bradys have mentioned they invited Gabi and Ari over.  She will always be Will's only child. Gabi really did love him. It's like Will and his marriage never existed. I'm really bothered about Will...  I would have given anything to see Sami at dinner with Mar (who apparently screwed up the turkey, lol).  She wouldn't need to say much.  Just be there as an acknowledgment to the audience of Will.

I guess I'm glad Theresa was MIA if it spared her being insulted by Vic yet again.  I love ya Vic but your contrition is too little, too late. At least she stopped by to see Eve although off camera.  Couldn't we have one scene.  Please?  KdP did very well today.  Gosh, Wally is an awkward kisser. Eric appears to be attracted to Claire.  Yuck.  I said to myself, GhostBo had better not appear in that mirror.  Of course he did.  Hope, your job right now is to parent and not just tell Ciara to take care of Chase. Her own son can't even talk to her about his marriage being in trouble.

I am thankful for no Trollop and no murder and terror today.  I am thankful for Steve.  He's going to be busy with storylines with Hope, John and Kayla!  And with whomever is texting him.

It's weird Joey never met all of his cousins.  I had to laugh at "nice to meet you, see you around".  Such a teen.  NuCiara doesn't bug me but she looks like a college kid.  It's nice seeing Jenn so supportive of Hope. Show could have easily written her and JJ out of this scene.  I'm glad they didn't.

I'm very thankful for the beautiful performance Caroline gave today and seeing so many Bradys together. Show made me cry today, and I rarely do that. Jawn and Mar will outlive cocroaches and a nuclear war, but next year this time we may not have Caroline, Stefano or maybe Vic. I look forward to Days Thanksgiving as much or more than the ornament ceremony.

I feel like every time I post, I end up saying the same thing, but I am just so impressed with the writing, acting and direction these days.  Maybe it's because I started watching again as the show was reaching rock bottom, but despite the doom and gloom, I am loving the closeness between the families.  It's realistic.  Unlike the ridiculous scenes that were played out when I came back to the show a year ago.

When Ciara asked Caroline how she was doing, and Caroline replied "better now that you're here", I totally could have imagined my own grandmother saying those words.  It was sad but beautiful.

And the end, with Bo appearing behind where Steve had been standing. Again, not only unexpected, but beautifully framed.

This is my first time seeing nu-Belle.  She and Claire look like they could be twins!

My only complaint is that Eduardo is getting into every storyline.  I mean, now he's connected to John and his search for his parents?  That I wasn't expecting or needing. But I guess I can't expect to like everything!

If it was't for this Trollop delivery story I think the show would have been better to make it seem like 2 weeks had passed and the funeral had already happened. We've seen enough grieving. Of all the significant scenes they cut out, they sure don't skimp on the misery.

Today was sad but at least no one was being tortured, terrorized, or murdered.  I loved seeing another gathering at the back-to-normal-sized Brady Pub and hope the show continues to focus on them as a family, but it was indeed jarring that everyone forgot about poor Will.

It was also nice to see Gabi and JJ again, even if they weren’t together, and Eve with (a less shouty and self-righteous) Justin.  I am more confused than ever that the show

let KdP go.  Her and Justin are great together

.  And Victor can shut the fuck up any time.  Grief does not excuse his misogyny.

I’m loving badass, vengeful Hope.

The young woman playing Claire is stunning.

Kate and Lucas are celebrating thanksgiving off screen which they failed to mention.

That's hilarious.  I completely imagined an offscreeen fabulous beach vacation with Lucas and Adrienne (I cringed at the thought of her walking down the Kmansion stairs when Weve (Wally and Eve?  Sorry....) came in.  Kate tags along and only visits between sitting on lawn chairs ordering drinks in a fabulous hat flirting with anyone she wants. Then she comes back with a vengeance.  I miss her.  Speaking of Will, I'd love to see a reconnection with Mar over him seeing as they were just as close to him.  And we've just seen Mar isn't adverse to confronting Dimeras.

Lots of families have holidays while missing family who've left us earlier in the year and and the year before.  Sad, yes, but well played I thought. If they pick it up the joy over Xmas I will be satisfied in the end. Thanksgiving to me is much less schmaltzy and lately has involved Trollop reading the annual bible story. If they do it again and try to pass off giant alien baby in a creche, you will hear me scream from here. I won't even say why I think his head is so big and round.

I also have the UO of liking some of the darkness other than what losing people means in the long run.  Gosh I'm way too invested in these families.

Watching Hope pull the place setting left for Bo over beside her was a nice touch.

Something about Eduardo being the person John needs to talk to to get more info about his parents. I think Eduardo is somehow connected to someone Paul knows. Also, the writers needed to give Paul something to do until they can write him out without being accused of getting rid of all of the gays at the same time.

Paul propper can't go soon enough. I think this is the third time it was his only use.  And I hate Jawn more than ever for tons of useless scenes of him searching for his family and leaving to join the ISA just to trick Mar, who I don't always like anyway.  Waste, waste, waste.  So I don't blame Sparkle for being wooden.  I think it's about an hour of our time with Jawn saying he's doing things he doesn't do.

Claire was born over a year before Ciara. So if Ciara is supposed to be 16, Claire should be 17.

However, using that logic, if Joey is 16 (Stephanie should be 40), Ciara should be about 19 and Claire would be about 20. Theo would be about 25 and it goes on and on.

It's weird Joey never met all of his cousins.  I had to laugh at "nice to meet you, see you around".

It's especially weird since by the way they greeted each other, it's clear that Claire and Kayla are very aware of each other. But remember this is the same show that would have us believe that while Kayla was in LA raising Stephanie, neither Stephanie nor Max ever saw pictures of or visited with one another (despite the fact that Stephanie and her grandparents immediately knew who each other was), even when Frankie used to go to LA to visit Kayla, which they also told us during the same timeframe. Days logic applies to no one born in planet earth.

Yes, that's what I meant.  I remember Belle when she was a teen with Shawn Douglas, Mimi and Chloe (who had a crush on Brady who was older than the teens).  I also have a memory of the teens on a summer adventure trying to find a hidden treasure of Alice Hortons.  Anyone remember something like that?

Lets be real though, has this show given Eric any meaty material? He's not being well written for at all. Which sucks because Eric is a Brady and the writers arent giving him no depth. Apparently the show is going to be moving with Fynn and Nicole based off of what AZ said at the Day of Days

Link to comment

You've all said it better than I can.   Today was a pretty good show.  Sad, as they all are these days, but sad in the way I really appreciate, about feeling, not about some horror happening to somebody.

All the pub scenes were great.  Caroline's toast, Ciara and her grandmother, that look that Shawn gave after greeting Chase, all the little things that are second nature to the vets.  Like Caroline patting Roman's face, the looks Caroline gives her grandchildren, the look on Jenn's face, reading what is going on with everyone but not needing to say it, the ease of all these actors with each other.  And as one of you said, those little throwaway moments, like Joe meeting Claire and then immediately moving on to something else.

Eve and Justin, very nice.  It looks like the asshole Justin is gone, at least for a while.  Where Show is going with these two is a mystery to me, but I'm enjoying the ride.

I'm hoping Theresa said a silent "fuck it" to Salem for Thanksgiving and hopped on a plane to L.A. to spend the holiday with her folks.

Victor needs to have his lips superglued shut for a while.  I love him - sometimes - but ENOUGH with 'hooker' and 'tramp' and 'whore' and all the other garbage he's been spewing forth nonstop lately.   His apology was appropriate, but it was too damn late.

KA did it again.  She's not missing a beat.  Hope has moved into revenge mode and it suits her right now.  It might be misguided but it gives her purpose and she needs that right now.   KA must be exhausted with the work she's been doing.  (I have trouble remembering that this show was filmed 6 months ago).

Jason Cook is really good, isn't he?

Oh - so Eduardo has yet ANOTHER kid?  Paul said the father of his ball player friend went to Winterthorne, and that father is Eduardo Hernandez?  I replayed that sequence several times, so if I heard it wrong, please tell me.  Did Eduardo ever hear of condoms??

So that's 4 kids with Mamma Hernandez, one with Eve, and yet one more with Mom of Paul's friend?

I'm expecting that Jawn's parents will end being younger than him by the time he finds them.  If they're still missing their bouncing baby boy, just imagine their disappointment when they finally see him again.

So Belle is back.....and Claire....could be good.

Automatons can shed more tears than KM.

Maybe she'll cry for real when she finally realizes Woody Allen will NOT be calling unless he needs his laundry picked up.

I was confused about this as well, but got distracted and forgot to rewind.  I think it could make for a pretty interesting and unique-for-soaps story if Papa E has more kids.  They could all come together and form some sort of registry or facebook group or something.
