Beyond the Gates: Daily Episode Discussion

I enjoyed the hell out of Naomie/Hayley and started wondering how they became friends in the first place. I loved Dany/Nicole. 

I have to ask. What does Leslie and her wigs think Eva's birthright is? Plastic surgeons make a lot of money and Ted has a private practice on top of working at the hospital. But I think that Nicole is the one who brought the money into the marriage, the house beyond the gates and the prestige of being married to a Dupree. Wanting Ted to pay child support or whatever is one thing, but Ted wouldn't have half of what he has if not for his marriage to Nicole.

I know Leslie is delusional, but every time she mentions birthright, I roll my eyes. How much money did he give her to make her go away?

Oh Eva is facing an uphill battle trying to talk any sense into Leslie. She has no idea how crazy her mother is. She can't find out soon enough for me.

My guess is that she wants more than money she wants prestige. Kinda like Hayley except Hayley isn't crazy(but she is kinda dumb) like Leslie is. I feel like Leslie wanted to be Nicole, which might be why she got with Ted in the first place. I dunno how she thinks she's gonna play this to her advantage because once Nicole finds out the truth Ted is out and he won't have as much to give to her anyway. 

Hayley pissed me off, "I was never harassed by that man so that means any other woman that says she was harrassed is automatically lying" like she can fuck off with that. And some friend she is, she only wants to level with Naomi on the condition she buys what she's selling. That's incredibly low and I'm glad Naomi told her she wasn't afraid of her empty threats. 

When I hear Dani talk about Bill and how addicted she is to him it makes this show feel like it started from the middle instead of the beginning. I know some things can't be helped but it's hard to imagine Dani & Bill that in love. Even as Dani continues to crash out over him, it's just hard to watch. I'm not actually rooting for her to get Bill back. Let him be Hayley's problem. Kudos to Nicole for trying to get her baby sister to see reason though. I wonder how long it will take before she loses patience having the same convo and gives up entirely. 

Kat is thinking in steps ahead with the camera set up, while she's overkill when it comes to how she talks to Eva, she's not really wrong either. So it's a toss up for me kinda because I like both characters so far. 

I'm glad Martin got caught in his lie but also happy that he and Smitty seemingly passed that hurdle for now. Only to come home to a new one. I wonder what Tyrell is hiding....

I don't think she loves Ted. If it's the prestige she wants, then she's as dumb as Hayley. The prestige comes from who Nicole is, not from Ted. And Ted is likely to be out on his ass when the truth about this comes out.

Nicole is loved. She is just an all around wholesome, kind person. If Leslie thinks blowing up her life is going to get her anything other than very short-lived satisfaction, she's got another thing coming. 

Leslie was also all poor Dani for what Bill and Hayley did to her, but of course when it comes to taking a long hard look in the mirror, her behavior flies over her head.

I wish I didn't like Leslie's crazy ass so much, but I do. And all the wigs remind me of Moira Rose. I wonder which other wig personalities we will meet before all is said and done.

Hayley makes it really hard to root for her.

Naomie on the other hand, I hope she goes at Bill and the firm like a wrecking ball. And this could turn into an even bigger lawsuit if more employees come forward. 

Maybe Bill and Hayley will be out on their asses and he has to take back the bottomless credit card because he can't pay for it anymore. I don't think Hayley will enjoy the poorer part of the vows.

Catching up after two days:

Martin remains an asshat. Complaining he couldn't count on Smitty's wholehearted support for his supposed Presidential run.  What?  Bitch, you did not even tell your husband you were thinking about this.  And now that he has found out by accident, you are mad he isn't fully on board for the nanosecond you gave him to process?  GTFO.

Also, I don't remember, does Martin he even know what he supposedly did?  Or is it a blacked out, fugue state, don't remember but it was covered up by his family/Bill and hit is pushing to his forefront of his consciousness through nightmares?  Because if that is the case, I get it why he thinks he could run.  But if that is not the case then how is it a man Congressman does not understand how oppo research is done and how things that can easily stay hidden when you are in a little pond, gets blown up hugely once you start swimming with the big fish?

Bill:  Oh, Naomi, think about all these poor people in my office who may lose their jobs if you tarnish the reputation of my firm for enabling a pervert

Meanwhile Haley: We will crush your little firm and put you all out of jobs!

Hayley just makes me tired.  Naomi was talking to a wall.  I hope Mike just can't help himself harasses Hayley. Of course that would mean Hayley would actually, you know, go to work..

I love how Ted manages come upon Leslie talking to Nicole and Leslie talking to Kat, but somehow not ever see Leslie with Eva even though they sit there scheming at a table dead center at the diner. 

The Nicole and Dani scenes were great.  And yeah, Dani's dependence on Bill is sad.  That man has treated her with wild contempt.  I hate it when women cling on men who disrespect them with their whole chest.

I laugh when I think about how Hayley complained to Bill when he wanted her to stop working and just spend his money. Martin knows exactly what he did. (Unless he really blacked out and the family told him he did something a lot less worse than what he actually did).

I am not sure that Hayley is back from her Honeymoon Vacation yet. Time seems to work differently on this soap opera, I can never how much time has passed.

S01.E23: Friday, March 28, 2025

[Rodney]

Nicole is again the only one of the Big Four to show up today.

Well, Samantha confirmed it.  Tyrell's being bullied by a jock twice his size.  And Martin and Smitty didn't take long to figure it out on their own.  But it turns out that Tyrell is being bullied because this jock thought that he sent a racy picture to his girlfriend, when really, somebody else did.

Kat finally catches Eva, but her phone dies before she can see what she's doing.  And lo and behold, though too late, Eva finally notices the camera.  And it looks like she erased the video from her phone.  She should've kept it with her.

Looks like Hayley is worried about Bill cheating on her.  Turns out he was just with a client in a custody battle.  And this client apparently threw Naomi and Chelsea hating him in his face.

First sighting of Doug and Vanessa in a while.  But why is Doug so concerned about Vanessa being near him when he has no problem being near him himself?  And Randy is still trying to protect Doug, much to Joey's anger.

Ted and Nicole are about to celebrate their next anniversary.  But Leslie is not going to let it be a happy occasion for them.  But Ted sounded like he admitted to loving Kat more than Martin.  Which . . . kind of not cool to say something like that.

Minus the boring conversation between Bill and Hayley this was a good episode.

Lesley's voice mail message is funny. Eva is definitely the best one out of the 20s early 30s something crowd. 

Sam and Tyrell have a nice sibling bond. Martin was almost good today but he again had to bring up about how the kids needed at least one parent home. He can't help himself.

It's not the money ALIAS wants, because she could've put Ted on child support for that. Leslie wants to be a Dupree, she wants Nicole's life.

Martin knows what he did. I think Martin thinks only Vernon & Anita know about it and not Bill. Vernon & Anita didn't want him resigning abruptly from Congress because that would've aroused suspicion.  I think Martin was cheating on Smitty and got himself caught up in an Andrew Gillum situation only somebody ended up getting hurt or dying.

So Ted was told Leslie had an abortion so he really has no idea that Eva exists and he has a habit of paying Leslie off but right now the price is too high. I bet once he discovers Eva is his daughter all those tender fatherly like feelings he has for her will go away and he will resent her. Nicole will be the one to embrace her and bring her into the family and Ted and Kat will be against her. Meanwhile Martin will have no clue because he barely interacts with any of them.

Bill continues to be trash. Because that potential client made an actual truthful comment about his kids hating him (they do) he has decided he's going to backstab her, get all her dirt and then take it to her soon to be ex so they can use it to get the kids from her. And Hayley thinks this is ok because that woman hugged Bill. Bill was cheater before Hayley, he cheated to be with Hayley, and he will most likely cheat on Hayley (with Dani), she needs to get use to this feeling.

The way he talked about Kat being his heart and how she opened him up was like he really doesn't care about Martin. I think both Nicole & Ted didn't have enough to do with raising Martin when he was young. I could see Anita & Vernon taking over for a while which is why they have so much say in his career now.

I'm glad Eva was able to outsmart Kat and her secret camera but she should have seen it immediately. Kat barely hid it.

All in all, I think it was a pretty good week.  It mostly focused on the stories that have secrets and intrigue around them.  Martin's secret, the sexual harassment suit, Joey's secret plan, Eva/Leslie/Ted and the Kat/Eva rivalry all have interesting angles to them.

Plus, there was no Derek and Ashley (even though I like Ashley--they don't know what to do with her.)

Dani and Naomi’s words are coming back to haunt Hayley. She’s seeing firsthand that Bill will cheat on her in a heartbeat if he meets someone who strikes his fancy and stokes his ego. Get used to it honey, there’s plenty more in your future. I mean, they haven’t Ben been married a month and she’s already jealous of a hug and a peck on the cheek? 

I’ll give Martin credit for at least trying to do right by his children but he’s still a bastard for trying to guilt Smitty into not working. Like, these kids are in HS. What difference does it make if both parents work all day as long as they’re home at night and spend quality time with the kids? And I’m glad Smitty brought up how much harder it will be if Martin does run for President. He won’t listen, but at least someone is telling him straight that it could hurt his children.

Yes, it seems like Vanessa McBride does know who Joey is and what he does. She assumed that Doug would also know who he was and what he does, when she says something like "don't pretend that you don't know what his name is" and then says something like "if he was on your operating table, would you refuse to do the surgery? Well, this is part of my job."  

Yes, it seems like Vanessa McBride was watching a video feed from Joey's Closet Casino that seemed to be live, but I am not sure if she could see Doug. Joey says that he has cameras with sound everywhere, so Randy (Maurice P. Kerry), stop trying to save "ya boy".

Oh, Ted. You absolute nincompoop or a man. Leslie is still crazy, but at least her motivation is made a lot clearer now with the pay off and abortion demand. And of course the fixer will be non other than Bill. 

Ted will deserve all the misery coming his way.

And I can see why they've recast the actor playing Ted, though. His swaying during his scenes and the way he keeps moving like there's music in the background is not great. It's probably a tick, but him doing that during an important conversation with Leslie was not good.

Bill is an asshole of the highest degree. Vengeance on the female client because she mentioned his private life? Just don't take her case. Also the dress she was wearing was absolutely gorgeous.

I imagine that Dr. Doug and Vanessa have separate accounts. Otherwise she'd know what he's really up to. But with that video feed, who knows.

This will be funny to me because Nicole will end up embracing Eva (after working through the emotions and the lying) and that's going to piss ALIAS off even more.

EVA may deserve a place in Fairmont Crest, but ALIAS will never.  And that's going to drive her off the cliff.

Ted will avoid Eva because he wanted her aborted and paid ALIAS to do it and that's going to horrify Nicole even more than the cheating (which I think she may know about but obviously didn't know it produced a child).  I think the revelation that Ted paid ALIAS to abort Eva will soften Nicole to her.

I actually see Martin having more of a sibling bond with Eva than with Kat since both of them are the problem children of the family.

Is it my imagination or do 99.99% of the men in the cast have facial hair? I honestly get confused by some of them. Back in the day it was almost a law that there could only one actor allowed to have facial hair and usually it was the bad boy. 

I have to say the Kat & Eva stuff cracks me up. My favorite stuff when someone comes up to Kat and she gives the look of back up. LOL!!!!

I'm behind, I just watched the ep where Naomi spoke to Bill and then Haley. Hailey?

I really like the actress playing Naomi, her scenes are good. She really conveys a lot of emotion without being over the top.

Kat saying Leslie seemed caring or something? Wtf lol. I would've walked away from thst interaction thinking she was psychotic. That is not normal behaviour.

The more that I think about it, I agree that Martin should have been Vernon & Anita's oops, surprise baby. He has the energy of the spoiled only boy. He would also be the only one to carry on the family name since Dani and Nicole were going by their married names. It would also explain why we've seen more of Vernon and Anita parenting him than his own parents. I know he told Nicole about his presidential plans first but he spends most of his scenes with his grandparents. I can't even remember the last time he and Ted actually shared a scene. Meanwhile Ted is all about Kat.

S01.E24: Monday, March 31, 2025

Ted and NIcole's opening scene was kind of hot and sexy.  Too bad Eva interrupted them.

Surprised that Eva didn't look for the camera again, just in case.  But she shouldn't call Kat delusional since she's actually, you know, right about her.

Ashley emerges after a whole week off.  Is this the first time that she's interacted with Dani?  Ooh.  Forgot that both have involvement with Andre (who's also been away for the past week).  And now Andre's making a documentary about the nurses that'll involve him being in Ashley's orbit again.

Derek's already back to work?

Good for Becky for figuring out that Bill was trying to subtly threaten them, and good for Stefania for sending word to Naomi just in time.  Although after all of this, they're still going to settle?  Uh . . . wow.

Dani wants to help Chelsea and Kat with their line?  That's decent of her.  I loved that Kat was open to her pitch even though Chelsea clearly wasn't.

Kat and Tomas seemed to hit their first snag.  Tomas should've gone to Naomi directly, not through Kat.

Joey was vibing on Vanessa something fierce.  It was good hearing more about why Vanessa went into real estate.

Good episode once more.

Bill was gross about the whole thing he acted like a Lawyer would but I still don't like it.

Oh no, that's sad. Not Change.org! I didn't really mind the actor in that role. He wasn't great, but there are far worse performances I would've dealt with. For instance, Leslie's actress. I know the character is meant to be over the top, but the actress is sitting down to a fresh ham buffet for every scene. It's too much for me.

Kat is a little too slick when she talks to Eva, but I don't mind her not trusting Eva. She ain't trustworthy. And Kat has seen her snooping around acting suspicious with no excuse more than once. I didn't like the spy camera hijinks though. The Kat we've seen so far is too smart to have the camera basically out in the open, and she would've shown her parents the incriminating footage as soon as she got it.

I hope we get coutroom scenes, because I know they'll be comedy. Naomi obviously has the facts (and the law) on her side, but I want to see what Beyond the Gates will do with this.

Agreed on all. I think the show is at least 6 weeks ahead in filming so I'm hoping we will see some story corrections soon, like the Andre/Ashley/Derek thing. I still have no idea why Andre has any feelings beyond friendship for her. There's no there, there either. Please stop trying to make them a thing, show. I kinda understand why, Andre is related to most every other female in his age range either by blood or marriage, and the thing with Dani isn't viable long term. So they need another late 20s, early 30s actress to mix with him. And after seeing her more today, I wouldn't mind seeing Stefania chem tested with Andre. I enjoyed her, they could cross paths via Naomi at Orphey Gene's. Side note... I saw on twitter that Orphey Gene is Michelle ValJean's, mother's name. So she lives on through this show. I thought that was such a lovely way to honor her. I wonder if there's a pic of her somewhere on the walls of the set. 🥹

I also hope they do some course correction on Dani's storyline. I haven't read a single person comment that they want her to stay in this cycle with Bill and Hayley. They do want her to move on and find her own thing, and I hope we start to see that, especially after Chelsea told her she didn't want her help. She needs to focus her ideas and energy on her OWN brand. And, please find an actor as tall as Bill to come into her life. Richer than rich. But also a philanthropist. Please and thank you. 

And yes, also agree that Martin should've been baby boy Dupree, not Richardson, for all the reasons @TiffanyNichelle laid out. It would've made so much more sense. 

Hayley and Leslie both have the same problem. They want the men. But they also want to be a Dupree. But neither marrying Bill nor blowing up Ted's spot will make that happen. I honestly don't think either one realizes that.

Bill does not like it when a woman challenges him on anything. That's why he likes Hayley, she may push but not really. But they need to worry about the first girl who was ready to settle. Naomi may talk the second girl out of it but the first one was ready for it in Bill's office.

That's so true. They want to be instead of the Dupree world but the men aren't Duprees, they married into it. Once the men are away from the Dupree women, they don't have that same cache.

I'm behind but as someone who works in privacy/security this whole 'I have to log you out of the hospital computer system' is such dumb bullshit. Timed automatic log outs on sensitive systems is security 101. 

It's not even some obscure control that the general public wouldn't know about.

I don't expect much realism in soaps, but every time they refer to it I cringe. 

Random thoughts- I just don't care about the teen stories.

- I decided I don't care what that crime boss guy does to Doug, as long as Vanessa isn't collateral damage

Kat and her beret crack me up. The Kat & Eva stuff is great stuff. Those young girls look like they’re having a blast & looking great while doing it. Kat has Eva’s number but not the proof. This storyline will be here for a while. Especially, since they are 1/2 sisters or are they? We’ll have to wait and see.

Count me in on thinking it would've worked better for Martin to be the youngest Dupree child and not the oldest grandchild. Not only would that work a bit better for Martin and what's going on with him, but I think the Kat & Eva rivalry - which I think might be my favorite story going right now - would have that much extra juice if Kat was the spoiled only child of Ted & Nicole.

I'll say it again.  Marquita Goings's little wink in her opening spot is so cute.  She's so cute in a way that Hayley is . . . not.  Which makes her a real paradox, in a way.

Speaking of Hayley, I was excited when I saw that she was going to share scenes with Chelsea.  We've never really gotten to see how Chelsea feels about Hayley.  But it's apparently just as negatively as the rest of her family.  She was right to call Hayley out on her victim-playing when it comes to Dani.  Though I admit that she struck a low blow when she mentioned Hayley not having a mother.  And Hayley surprisingly made a good point with how Dani was escalating.  I was surprised that Chelsea didn't give a shit about her mother's "escalating" behavior, though, when Hayley mentioned Dani breaking into her and Bill's house, smashing their pictures, and stealing their wine.

I liked Dani and Chelsea's scenes.  I like that Chelsea set some boundaries with Dani, but doesn't want to shut her out completely.

I am so glad that Naomi saved the case.  All she had to do is point out to the women that Bill didn't offer them an actual amount, and they realized yet again that they'd been played.  And I liked her shutting down her father right after.

Ben Gavin's probably the weakest actor in the cast, but I at least find him believable in his friendships scenes with Jacob.  Not so much in his "rivalry" scenes with Andre.  Shocked that he invited him over to dinner, though, given his insecurities about him.

Jacob with Marcel . . . I wonder which way things are going?

Sheesh.  Shanice sees what's happening between Andre and Ashley even when Ashley doesn't.  That was obvious when she asked to have Derek when his heart was broken.

Speaking of Shanice, I love her sass.  But in terms of fun side/recurring characters, I miss Mona.  Where has she been over the last few weeks?

Dani continues to be unable to quit Bill.  Even though it will.  Had no idea that they had a summer house, though.  I liked how much Dani was enjoying Bill's firm being sued, though, as well as her surprise that Naomi is the one suing him.  When they're being nice to each other, I can see why Dani fell in love with him.  Then, they separate, and I remember why Dani is so furious at him.

Oof.  That kiss at the end!  Let's see how well that ends.

Completely enjoyed Chelsea reading Hayley for filth. Didn't know she had it in her.

Oh Dani. I sense this will be a recurring exclamation from me lol. I agree that I can see why Dani fell in love with him, and how he was able to maintain a thrall over her. I just really want better for her because the only time I truly believe Bill is sincere is when his lips aren't moving. The minute he opens his flappers, I am suspect. And I hate the chemistry he has with Dani, and that I liked hearing stories of their family life together. Because he's gonna use her to get to Naomi. Ugh, he's such a bastard.

I don't enjoy mopey Andre. And therefore I am not looking forward to this hospital documentary. And baby Ashley Andrea can get yeeted off canvas forever, I don't care it's a fictional child birthed on the dirty hospital elevator floor with the help of Nurse Mary Sue, I don't wanna hear that name no more. 😒

Maybe Derek and Ashley could get trapped in an apartment fire set by Marcel on Joey's orders cuz the owner owed him money so he had it burned to the ground, no survivors. Then the documentary can just have a little 'In memoriam' vanity card at the end and we can be done with these two? Please? Bonus - it kicks off great story for lots of other characters! 😁

I’ve been wondering about her since the Eva/Kat drama has heated up.  There was a brief mention of Mona’s day off or being sick or something, but she hasn’t even been name-checked since.  Does she know something that could blow up the scheme with Eva and Dana/Leslie/Sherry/Anna?  I don’t think so.

OMG, the documentary is a plot contrivance that’s eye-rolling even by soap standards.  Maybe we’ll get to see more Shanice, but damn Andre/Ashley/Derek is a story I really don’t care about.

I think Karla Mosley has been on Beyond The Gates more than she ever was on GL. LOL!!!! I think she’s only missed 2 episodes so far. They are working her to death. LOL!!!! It’s probably killing Daphnée Duplaix a tiny bit that she just sits at a desk all day. Hopefully, that will change when they replace Maurice Johnson and maybe ramp up their storyline with the secret child reveal.

Why does Hayley insist on talking to the Duprees? Especially the Dupree women? Every time she tries they smack her down. It's fun to watch but at some point you have to think she likes it. Chelsea talking smack about her to Kat on the phone and then turning around and doing it to her face was so satisfying.

Bill was so upset over what Naomi said about Dani boosting him that he had to go over to Dani's house to play puppet master. I noticed how he dropped the Team Dani thing but didn't follow up on it immediately. He's there to get her to influence the people at the club to stop being so mean to poor wittle Hayley. She liked the tribute page to herself after she shot up the wedding. She's going to love the Team Dani stuff!

I hate that she threw herself at him after a few minutes of shared memories and that today he will push her off him saying he's devoted to Hayley (for now). But like Nicole said, she's addicted to that man.

Of course Bill would throw Dani off him.  And honestly, if he's truly as happy as he says, why keep coming around Dani?  She's right about that.

Dani must call Andre to avoid turning to alcohol.  Good to have some deterrent from that, but she's right.  What they have does have an expiration date.

Vernon's really never had one bad mark against him?  Wow!  He must've been an exemplary congressman!

Naomi's flashback to her and Bill before their estrangement broke my heart.  Now I can really see why his betrayal of their family hurt her so much.

Derek plays bocce ball?  Really?  I thought that that's exclusively an Italian sport. And now he gets to be in Andre's documentary as a patient?  I actually did like the moment when he and Ashley agreed that neither could forget the lives that they lost.  They're both in professions in which lives can be lost.

Marcel has to be undercover.  He has to be.  Surely Jacob's not right about that. And surely Elon knows what's actually up with him. . . . Okay.  He does know about it.  But that last scene makes me wonder if not only Marcel is really corrupt, but Elon, too? . . .

Hayley is already starting to doubt Bill's devotion to her, thanks to Dani.  Interesting. . . . But Bill wanted his old property with Dani as a weekend home for himself and Hayley?  Not surprised that Bill only told her half of the truth about what happened, though.

Were Anita and Vernon trying to get Naomi to play softball out of concern for Bill throwing out Martin's secret?

Once again, I enjoyed the episode.

I am completely over Vernon and Anita coddling Martin at the expense of the rest of their family. I don’t even care what his deep dark secret is, or if it gets blown to hell tomorrow. In fact I wish it would because their behavior is horrible. ‘We must protect Bill at all costs or he could ruin Martin’s life.’ No, you need to come clean with your  family so they can proceed accordingly. I’m glad Naomi isn’t backing down from the lawsuit, and I hope she doesn’t.
 

So Bill lies to Hayley’s face and tells her that Dani cried hysterically when he told her it was over between them and he’s in love with Hayley. Yeah that isn’t going to end well. She already heard Dani’s voice telling her she isn’t the first and won’t be the last lol!

Much to Ashley’s chagrin, Derek and Andre seemed to genuinely hit it off at dinner lol! But I have a hard time picturing Derek as a wine connoisseur. And no, Andre, you do NOT want Derek in your documentary. At least not unless the objective is to put your audience to sleep.

It's ok because Hayley lied to Bill and told him the Duprees taunted her at the club when the Duprees didn't even know she was there (except Chelsea).

I'm hoping Marcel is just undercover but I suspect he's dirty, as is Elon. This is all Elon's fault for partnering up Jacob with Marcel (or, if he didn't, it's his fault for not getting Jacob reassigned somewhere else).

I am going to revisit old episodes because I want to see if Hayley is copying Dani's style.  Hayley using "Glorietta Interiors*" has been mentioned at least twice, but it didn't strike me until they started talking about the hot pink sofa...Hayley is copying Dani (badly)...Hayley has a tacky purple sofa.  Nobody else on the show besides these 2 have non-neutral colored sofas.  I need to see what else Hayley is copying.
