Nail-biting cliffhanger to end.

I wanted to give Will a hug all episode, with everyone throwing stuff at him. But then, I'm someone who primarily blames Angie for this situation (though I totally appreciate how complex the character is). Her handling of the situation (by lying, unnecessarily) did contribute to a teenage victim of SA becoming a serial killer, even though her intentions were good. I only hope that Angie and Will are really and truly over for good now. They just fundamentally as people do not a good couple make.

I hope Faith's new partner sticks around, he's good comedic relief.

Not so much with stories, everything happens because a law enforcement official or politician does something corrupt.

Well ... lol.

Gah, I love this show. The characters are all so, so great. And it is actually quite funny too, which I really appreciate.

I'm with you on Gina Rodriguez's character, @Irlandesa. I just don't think there's a need for another main character at all and personally I just sort of don't like Gina Rodriguez. I hope she doesn't mess up my love for this show!

I approve of the amount of Betty in this episode.

I was surprised at how mad Nico was at Will. It's not like he tossed them out on the street when he left. Nico got to live in the house and he left money to live on. I guess, abandonment issues? But everyone knew what Will was going through, so it seemed a little much. Especially taking Betty! Make him sleep in the garage, sure, but you do not take a man's purse dog from him!

I haven't seen Gina Rodriguez in much, but I liked her here. "I have to go, I'm being shamed." Although I agree that the cast does seem bloated, what with Faith's new partner, who is adorable, and the new (?) mayor, who is not.

Anybody else think the officer who was retiring is involved?  When he sent the one guy to get ice he made a point of saying take Chester with you. Then he was in such a hurry to send the Swat team when that should have been Faith’s decision.

Oh for sure, if he's not the Big Bad, he's definitely Big Bad adjacent. I knew as soon as he ignored that text and then sent those guys to get ice, that he would be involved somehow. I wish they had been more subtle there.

I love Franklin, and I wish they would give him more to do. Telling Angie 'I love you' and then 'You look like a dork' had me hollering.

I like Angie so much better away from Will and not as his love interest. I laughed so hard at her and Ormewood tearing up the course in that golf cart, and then Ormewood rolling out, getting up and getting back in it and saying 'keep going!' That was fun lol.

I completely understand why everyone who cares for Will is mad at him, and I liked that they consistently threw something at him. I don't think Will realizes how much he is cared for, and to go radio silent for 6 months? That's a long ass time for people who care for you to imagine the absolute worst. So them throwing things at him, I saw as a release for them, after not knowing if he was even dead or alive, they all released that relief that he was ok in the same way.

Oh Amanda. The mayor didn't clear that hug lol! I just love her love of Wilbur. Honestly, outside of Betty, I think Amanda is the person that loves Will the most. If they ever hug, I may cry a river longer than the Nile....😭🫶🏽

Captain Cromwell (and possibly Robbie too) are the dirty cops. Once he switches off his phone alarm, Cromwell quickly sends Robbie and Chester out for ice run. Based on the GSW, Chester is clearly the target.

I love the improved dynamic between Faith and Ormewood. He cares about her — fixing her jacket before the press conference, alerting her to eat crackers etc. 💙

Rafael did Will “a big favor once” when they were 18 by taking “a fall” for him. I need more info on this.

Betty has a lot of screen time in this S03 premiere. Love it! MORE Betty and LESS Marion Alba, please. 🤞🏻

“Uh-oh. It’s getting hot. Betty, look away.”

And Betty devotedly looks away. Good girl… 😍

I thought Will said he did a favor for him, not that he took a fall. The favor was taking Will in and letting him live with him and his grandma when he had nowhere else to go. But I could have missed something. Captioning seems to be really bad lately, and actors seem to mumble. Or maybe it's my ears.

Why wouldn't he tell Will about his daughter? If he was trying to protect the daughter, why wouldn't it help to have Will know about her? And why did Will assume it was not the grandma that was being protected by the confession?

I was tired, so I realize the show might have been perfectly clear even if I wasn't.

I was also surprised by how angry Nico was. Wouldn't they be relieved Will is okay, and grateful that he provided a home all this time?

I generally like Gina Rodriguez, but I didn't think they gave her much to do this episode. She was just kind of there, not actually showing much of her charm. But if she's here all season, I figure there's time for that.

I liked the episode. I am very glad the show is back.

I loved this too.  It's a great way to shorthand the fact that time has passed and Faith and Ormewood have clearly worked together more while Will was gone to the point they've developed a rapport that i don't remember them having.

He definitely implied he did something for Will that appears to be introducing a mystery about Will's past.  We haven't been told what it is yet.

I find she has limitations as an actress that annoy me.  She can come off as smug when she's not supposed to and when she was supposed to pull off high powered bitch in the first scene with Will, I just thought she was annoying.

This was a good opener, its great to have this show back! I didn't even fully realize how much I missed these characters until the episode started, especially Betty, the cutest girl. Also, Will actually looks quite nice unshaved...

Will certainly has an eclectic group of old friends doesn't he?

The retirement guy is absolutely in on whatever the corrupt cops are up to, he was the one who sent the guy out even after saying he didn't want to go, and he has been around just enough to call attention to himself.

Faith and Ormewood have clearly picked up a good rhythm between them while Will was gone, its really quite sweet how much he obviously cares about her, fixing her jacket before the press conference and getting her to take care of herself.

I quite like Gina Rodriguez so I am happy to see her here, although hearing that she's going to be a regular is a surprise. I sort of assumed that she would just be the featured guest star of the two parter and she would either be a temporary love interest or the bad guy.

I did like that line but as @Irlandesa pointed out, for me Gina Rodriguez has the tendency to come off smug pretty much all the time and it just doesn't work for me.

I think it was a mistake to add a new regular. They should have at least made Gina Rodriguez's character recurring for a season and seen how it worked out. I just don't get adding a brand new regular character. If anything, they could have made Angie's sponsor a main. Or even Nico.

I do like Faith's new partner and thought there was just enough of him here. I'm interested to see some more of him.

Unless she turns out to be bad too….the guy who died had reached out to her to turn states evidence and then he is killed.

Since she’s a regular, I don’t think she’ll be bad. But I guess it is possible. I hope not though because I’m not really interested in Will having a love interest that turns out to be the big bad and I think I’d be even more annoyed they added her as a regular if she’s a villain.

I remember season 1 of Angel and one of the regulars was always supposed to die halfway through the 1st season, but by making him a regular, no one saw his death coming…who thought a regular wouldn’t last the first season.

I still am not an Angie fan, and I didn't think the scene of her and Ormewood riding around in the golf cart was entertaining or even had any point. I guess I just don't care.

I don't really like Gina Rodriguez's character yet. I liked her on Jane the Virgin, and maybe I just have a hard time accepting her in any other role.

Plus, Gina Rodriguez is obviously going to be Will's love interest and so I am now annoyed again about them killing Cricket off so swiftly.

I really loved Cricket and thought they wasted potential there. I'm willing to see where the storyline with the assistant DA goes. I haven't seen enough to know how I feel about her yet.

He didn't tell Will about his daughter because they were on camera in lockup (and clearly a cop is involved). There was a very pointed shot of him essentially nodding to the camera for Will to see.

Will knew it wasn't grandma because there was dialogue about her being in a safe place.

Not only that, he used one arm to carry her, possibly putting himself and other humans in danger too.  If he needs to take her everywhere, how about getting a sling or crossbody bag, so he can have both hands free?

And Ormewood making sure Will knows just how good the Faith/Ormewood relationship is was a nice extra touch.

Truly!

Another quick mention: yay to Ramón Rodríguez as Director!  And the WILL TRENT title display on the wall behind Faith didn't disappoint.

I am glad this show is back.

I loved the Will Trent title card.  It is a little thing but it is an element of the show that I love.

How did I not know Betty's full name? Betty Maria White Trent!!  And yes I love how she obediently looked away.

Oh Angie.  I was never a fan or her and Will. But I do like Angie as a character.  I think she got off easy for covering up a murder. But oh well.  The irony of her and Ormewood lamenting about cops getting a bad rap.  LOL.  I did like her scene with Frank. That feels like good, natural long-standing chemistry. Also Doodoo file cracked me up.

I feel like Ormewood and Faith drifting into a friendship with the loss of their respective partners was a nice touch.  Now I am trying to remember if he became aware of her diabetes issue because of hanging out with her and Will over time or if she told him about it.  Because if it is the latter it signals a fair amount of trust. I love how the show signaled it, no big exposition or anything but Ormewood straightening her jacket and forcing her to keep her blood sugar up.

Loved the fight scene set to Din Daa Daa in the background.

Not a fan of Gina Rodriguez.  Sigh. Oh well.

Way back in S1, before we knew about Amanda being the one to find Will in the trash, we were told they met when Will was a teen and had gotten into some trouble. So I'm guessing (strictly speculation, no spoilers) whatever trouble that was, involved Rafael and we will get to see a flashback of that event and it will tie into Amanda finding him again. That makes the most sense to me, as far as what Rafael was referring to when saying he took the fall for Will.

I think Nico was mostly mad because Will took Betty with him and they missed Betty the most. No one knew where Will and Betty were, Nico probably grieved greatly for the dog.  I would have too.

I loved this opening episode for season 3.  The way season 2 ended made me so sad/mad. I like Angie and Will, and they have a very complicated history, so her sad "I hoped you'd choose me." just made me cry. I worried about her all during the hiatus. I think having her work security for a very exclusive neighborhood is punishment enough.

Ormewood has really stepped up, checking in on Angie and working well with Faith, his parenting skills have really risen to the top. I suspect he will have a clash with Will about Angie at some point in the season.

I enjoy Gina Rodrigues and was sad when her last show ended. This show has comedic elements to it, but is much more dramatic than anything I've seen her in. I'm willing to watch to see what the show does with her character.

So I guess Will is going to always be a 10 episode season. Booo! I want more.

And see, this is what's gonna piss me off, if everyone is coddling Angie and mad at Will. On top of all the illegal shit she did with murder teen, she wanted to bring Will into her chaos and lie for her too. Again, these are not the choices of a true recovering addict nor someone who has been in therapy. ANGIE was in the wrong. ANGIE made those choices that brought her to where she is today, being a security guard in a gated community. She honestly shouldn't get her job back because people died and her judgement is extremely poor but I understand they want her back in the mix. In the real world, there would probably be protests over her getting her job back, and there should be. But she really shouldn't be a police officer anymore, under any circumstances. So I will be very heated if they decide to act like Wilbur is the bad guy here.

I don't know about coddling Angie. She did something based on her experience as a survivor of SA. She thought she was helping Crystal, not realizing she was sending Crystal on a killing spree. Should she be a police officer again? In the real world, that wouldn't happen, but they are setting it up for her to get back on the force, as she was not charged with a felony (I think Ormewood mentions that). I meant that dealing with super-entitled idiots is a great way to test her mettle and see whether she's learned anything.

As for being mad at Will, people are allowed to be mad at him for disappearing for months and not letting anyone know if he was alive or dead. Amanda possibly knew and allowed him to have his space, but no one else did. I think a little anger at Will for doing that is justified.

If you're referring to my comment about Ormewood having something to say to Will about Angie, I don't think that's going soft on Angie. He seems protective of Angie and Faith, and I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

We'll see I guess. I enjoy all the characters, and don't carry much hate for anyone in the show, except the new mayor. Ha ha.

Love this show. I just got done listening to a couple of the books that the series is made from. They are way more graphic than the show. Good gracious!

This is my favorite lighthearted cop show. I gave up on the rookie.  I couldn't stand another second of the witchy woman or Bailey.

"I had to stalk you. How do you think that made me feel?" That made my night. Love the dynamic between those two.

Also, I am on the not a Gina Rodriguez fan boat. They should have taken a vote before adding her lol.  she isn't needed and doesn't add anything special.

Man, I miss so-called filler episodes. I think this show in particular could do them beautifully since imo it's more about the characters than the plot anyway.
