why do we all know that Trump will not be presidential in his response to this - unless someone else is posting on his behalf.

Initially the “Trump” condolences serve to assert that MAGAs are not murderers who want to kill Democrats or doctors.
But soon enough potus will go off script with something about how the victims and would-be victims were “asking for it” and/or “deserved it” and his devotees will parrot that message.
Something like how it’s a “terrible thing, but I hear she was a nasty woman.”

If I had disposable income, I might have bought tickets to ensure they were empty.

I just read an article that people on social media are claiming that's what they did -- reserve tickets, complete with using fake names like Stormy Daniels, Ray Peest, Youra Wasteofskin, etc., they had no intention of using.

The senator who died recently voted with Republicans on a bill.  Trump and his supporters will say that is why she was targeted.  They will blame everyone and everything except for their part in creating this dangerous toxic political environment that is leading to more and more violence.

As a commenter said -- LASD, our biggest and most dangerous gang at it again.  I also love the comments on how disturbing a place that split screen shows this country to be, especially:

They had issued a dispersal order.  Goodness knows why.  My daughter got the alert on her phone.  Why do they think everyone at the protest gets their alerts on their phones and that they have a phone with them?

My daughter would have gone to the protest, but it was my birthday this week and the only day her sister could drive to SD.

Speaking of Trooping the Colour, Charles wore a black armband and observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Air India crash.  I wonder if Trump did anything to acknowledge the death of the Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband earlier today.

And put a damper on his special birthday parade? Not our Donnie. Bad enough the weather was very humid and rain was on its way. A statement was issued early on. On his way to the parade, a reporter shouted a question to him, asking for a reaction. He said "It was a terrible thing" and climbed into the waiting limo. Any previous president would've stopped and said something calming to the country. This sociopath had more important things to do (like get to his seat and start taking in all the adulation).

Yeah, but did they have to pay for tickets? As much as I'd like an empty seat at an event where I never wanted to hit, I wouldn't want to give people like that any money.

The sad thing is that I know the picture is either Photoshop or AI-generated, and yet Stephen Miller in that uniform just seems . . . right. In the context of the theme, I mean. I'm hoping he gets stomped into paste one day.

Seriously, though, lets say that good wins out over ignorance and evil, the ship is righted and the United States goes back to its old position. How would be deal with all of the people that have made this nightmare possible? Who would you target? Do you go as small as folks who had lawn signs out 24/7/365? Track down a-holes posting ignorant stuff online? And you just know that a lot of the higher MAGA will wind up fleeing the country. Thirty years from now, there could be a political thrilled titled The Boys From Lima where a scientist attempts to personally ensure there would be another Trump.

There are just so many people to hate. I'm tempted to go to AI and ask for one hundred names, but it'll give me a different list even if I ask ten thousand times.

Parroting the language of the original post, I used buy, but just changed it to reserve as that's what the article uses; per this article, they were free.

I don’t have much schadenfreude seeing the protest crowds dwarf the parade crowds. For the billionth time, where was all this energy back in November?!

And please don’t get into the whole “Musk stole the votes” conspiracy theory because the third party/non voters don’t deserve to get off that easily.

According to an NBC article, Vance called Gov Walz to express condolences. A source close to Walz said the governor never heard from Trump. Once again, I'm disgusted but not surprised.

I like to think Gov. Walz instinctively made the gun-to-head gesture while on the phone with the shillbilly. That would be my reaction.

On Facebook, someone estimated the crowds to both events. If correct, the ratio between attendees to “No Kings” and the 250th was 500:1. You have to admit, that seems about right, doesn’t it?

Between horrific political assassinations occurring in Minnesota, a dictatorship-style military parade in the streets of our nation's capital, and the peaceful, inspirational gathering of millions of Americans in support of democracy, it was just a few minutes ago that I even remembered that the first American Pope spoke to 30,000 people in his hometown of Chicago!

This quote from Pixar's A Bug's Life (1998) seems appropriate to close out this day. It's been 27 years since I saw the film, but a protest sign I saw online today included the quote and refreshed my memory of the scene.

Hopper: You let one ant stand up to us, then they all might stand up! Those puny little ants outnumber us a hundred to one and if they ever figure that out there goes our way of life!

First of all, I spent most of this day in the air crossing the country, stopping over briefly in Chicago and then ending up in Phoenix. I spent a lot of time looking out the plane window at our beautiful country and felt both proud and sad at the same time. From 32,000 feet all this political turmoil feels so insignificant and unnecessary. Knowing about all the demonstrations and even the murders that happened today, and Trump's stupid military parade, a part of me wished I didn't have to come back to face all of that and could just keep flying above it all where things feel more at peace and in focus somehow. And another part of me wished I could go back to some better time back in the '90s or something. And still another part of me wished I could have participated in a demonstration in CT, and there were a few from what I'm reading.

Secondly, thanks to the people who posted photos from the demonstrations. You are a sign of hope that there's a light at the end of the tunnel with all of this insanity, and I am grateful to have that hope.

Here is a photo of the No Kings demonstration at the State House in Hartford. I'm told it was raining.

Here's a photo from the No Kings demonstration today in Phoenix:

I have to applaud them as it was over 100 degrees in Phoenix today.

Feel hopeful this morning, although scared about that BBB stuff.

I can’t say the same except agree about BBB which is sure to pass with disastrous results

For me yesterday was like the sad ending to an awful week

He reigned terror on Los Angeles He staged an hideous parade to stoke his fragile ego Israel escalated tensions in Middle East Russia has continued to bomb and kill Ukrainians and we suffered a political assassination in Minnesota

He actually released or someone did a document of over 200 pages showing how many billions he’s made on his business ventures as president

Various members of his administration have with his help put our national security our health our educational institutions our private data and more at risk

Students have been snatched off the streets Parents have been taken away their children and deported

The beacon of light was the No Kings protests here and around the world that will eat at him made him look like a fool and denying him his supreme leader title for at least now

But I’m scared of what he’ll do next

Asked by ABC (who no longer have a backbone or conscience) today

“Do you plan on calling Governor Walz?”

“Well it’s a terrible thing. I think he’s a terrible governor. I think he’s a grossly incompetent person. But I may call him, I may call other people too”

There are so many things I feel towards him today that it goes beyond the usual hate and loathing I always feel

He is a sociopath.  Not an ounce of empathy. But if someone calls him a name he thinks it's a national crisis and someone will have to pay.

Its just really baffling the delusion of maga.

They still deny this guy was acting under right wing violence.

He was appointed by walz and this woman voted once with Republicans so democrats had her killed.

Never mind the 70 others on the list including walz and all democrats and left wing people.

They are truly brain washed. Scary snd infuriating.

And they will never belive otherwise. Even if they catch the guy and he confesses he is MAGA and it was political they will say false news or he is being paid or whatever. The fever is never going to break for them.

Someone is in a bad mood. No king rallys gathered huge cheering numbers of people, more than his birthday, and now this steals the attention.  And he can’t resist a dig, he could just say yes or no, it has been handled.

That's right. That's why Reddit has the Herman Cain Award for MAGAs who got Covid from going without masks or vaccines. There were quite a few right wing "influencers" who got Covid and some of them died.

MAGA looks to me to be 2020s version of the Salem Witch Trial hysteria:
https://www.nesl.edu/blog/detail/a-true-legal-horror-story-the-laws-leading-to-the-salem-witch-trials
Few openly apologized.

Although, if the militarization of MAGA marches forward, it might more accurately mirror and/or revive the Lost Cause of the Confederacy

Hell, forget that, at this rate I'm just waiting for the shooter to be eventually pardoned by Trump, 'cause that's just how our country apparently rolls now. Unless you're an immigrant, of course - only they have to abdie by those pesky things called laws. Trump and his supporters, on the other hand?
