How to Survive the Broligarchy

Girl power vs Tech bros

By Carole Cadwalladr

TIL about this woman when Jon Stewart interviewed her only the Daily Show. One horrifying thing she said was that the Big Beautiful Bill has a provision where congress will not legislate AI for ten years  if passed we are doomed

Tech bros are a serious problem. They have amassed way too much money and power and with few exceptions they are not good guys.

When we used to be called Previously TV, the Y&R board came up with a nick name for ourselves. We called ourselves Preverts.

I remember that! Preverts ruled!!!!

I think I have posted something like this before....but seeing a couple of posts and reactions to them the last day or so have made me sad.  I hate to see anyone  feel the need to leave any group on this site. This is why I  don't respond to any poster who I disagree with; sometimes strongly.  The world around me right now (actually, probably all of us) can be dark. Trying to change anyone's mind about something they feel strongly about, especially political opinions, changes nothing except make someone feel angry or sad.  That is just me; it is simply I hate to see any kind of controversy or upset here. Where we should all feel okay about posting any opinions. Except trashing The Pope's sports card; that is off-limits. 😎

AH! Memories of the old TWoP.  I loved the episode recaps of The Amazing Race and Trading Spaces (it might have been the same writer for both shows). Those recaps were often hilarious.   I can't remember the name I used to post.  But I"m very limited in what topics/shows I looked at, besides those two it was Downton Abbey and Lost although not sure if those two were on TWoP or whatever it was that came after.

I used to post here as abbyzenn but when they changed to having to use your email to log it I had deleted that email sometime ago and I couldn't remember that or my password.  I had to register under a new emal but I couldn't use the name abbyzenn anymore.

I was looking for a re-cap of a Bates Motel episode and I came across one by a writer for TWoP. I wish I could remember his name, he was hilarious. Then I stumbled on the forums and started posting in the Y&R topics. It wasn't long before the site was shuttered and most of us came to Previously TV and then they changed it to Primetimer,

I think most of us had June on our bingo cards as to when their massive egos would collide.

https://www.the-express.com/news/politics/173734/elon-musk-big-beautiful-bill-trump-anger

Elon Musk went on an explosive rant on Twitter, calling President Donald Trump's Big, Beautiful Bill a "disgusting abomination" a few days after his formal exit as a special government employee heading the Department of Government Efficiency.

Trump said farewell to tech billionaire Musk on Friday, as the latter officially left his job, after leading DOGE for 130 days. The billionaire led allies and donated about $275 million, which catapulted Trump to a second term.

"I'm sorry but I just can't stand it anymore," Musk.

I was wondering what was in those posts that were deemed unacceptable or not following the rules of respect or decency to other posters.

Recently one of my posts was pulled and I got a detailed explanation (without even asking; I might not have noticed it was missing if not for the explanation) which boiled down to my having labeled someone (tho not specifically or directly) with a unflattering term. I realized I should have labeled the individual's behavior rather than using a noun. So I'm glad they took down my post. I don't want to be known as a name-caller, nor do I want to model that behavior.

Several years ago a post was removed because of a line (I don't recall the content) and I asked if the rest of the post could be restored. I think maybe it was? Or maybe they wanted to but is was gone? Or maybe it happened twice and one time it could be restored and another not?
Whatever.

Anyhoo, hope that helps a bit, @Mollywolly555.

If you look at my profile I have some warnings. One was from a thread where a poster made a joke about a TV cook and they got banned. All I did was upvote it. My second warning came when I replied to someone who was ranting about lazy so and sos who are on Medicaid. I merely pointed out that many hard working Americans avail themselves of Medicaid. I guess that was the wrong thing to say.

Pardon me for being a sceptic, but I really haven't seen much evidence that Mr. Trump is any sort of an advocate for animal rights, surely his fur wearing wife and game hunting kids aren't; and it feels to me like maybe this is more MAGA spin to distract from the real purpose for ending the research.

Some time during the campaign - maybe at the same time Trump was falsely accusing immigrants of eating cats and dogs - MAGA media "discovered" that the federal government funds lots of disturbing testing on animals.  It's the same no matter who is in office, but, of course, they reported it as if Biden had come up with it.

Question - don't know where to put it.

Can someone use two computers and have two screen names and post as two separate people?

Another question - if someone is banned, can they get back on with another screen name?  And do the mods check the computer that request is coming from?

I'm just curious.  I am the real lookeyloo only posting once and haven't been banned.  I hope never to be.

I've only ever had this username, too. My TWOP name was the same as my twitter name, I think. It's been so long. I lurked in Grey's, Battlestar Galactica, and a few more.

I worry about that, too. I've been here since TWOP shut down, and that's one of the rules that stuck out. No discussing anything about the boards, or other posters.

Oh God Pete Hegseth’s at it again although I’m pretty sure he got his marching orders from the his boss

Hegseth has ordered the Secretary of the Navy to rename the USS Harvey Milk

Launched in 2021 and named after the slain gay rights activist and Navy veteran it will be renamed later this month

Also on the list of ships that may be renamed are USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg USNS Harriet Tubman USNS Cesar Chavez and USNS Medgar Evers

I’m sensing a pattern here

I watched this.  It's so scary.  As I've been afraid for months, none of this can easily be undone, either this data collection or the dismantling of our government agencies or the overall thinking about what a government should be or do.

Another one a girl denied graduating because she won't take a health class with lgbqt material in it.   She is suing.

U.S. Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley revealed that President Donald Trump would be honored by the crowd singing "Happy Birthday" at a military parade that is expected to cost up to $45 million.

During a Tuesday interview on the War Room podcast, MAGA influencer Steve Bannon noted that Trump had been criticized for staging a parade on his birthday.

"Obviously, the mainstream media is all over — this is Trump's parade," Bannon said. "The thing that this is much broader, right?"

One time, this was a few years ago now, someone posted a comment on a show I watch that I thought was a little ill-informed, and that contained a grammatical error. I posted a reply that echoed that error. A little bit later (maybe an hour or so?) I had second thoughts that I was being overly snarky, and went to edit or remove the comment, but it was already gone. I never got any kind of warning or notification, but I was grateful that some all-seeing mod had saved me from myself.

Exactly. If this site welcomed content currently not allowed - sexist memes, dehumanizing language, opinion stated as fact - or hosted a forum where people were not required to provide links to back up emphatic or extreme statements (or where links to sites full of errors would be taken at face value) I'd just move on, and find a place more in line with my standards.

100 percent agree. I don't care about Trump's personality type, it's his criminal record I find repugnant. The man is a predator found legally liable for sexual abuse - if that doesn't disqualify him for the presidency is someone's eyes, then we don't share the same moral universe.

It's all bad, but especially for Milk because Milk served in the Navy!!!  In the Korean War!  And therefore had the "warrior ethos" that Hegseth is purportedly concerned about.  And was forced to take a less than honorable discharge because of the threat of court martial for homosexuality. Where does the cruelty behind this thinking come from?

I was at TWOP back in the day...think I had the same name as now. I did get suspended for two weeks--didn't even know it. Just couldn't post anything. I think I contacted the site & was informed that because I had recommended another website to a fellow TWOP-er, that I was suspended (sheesh--it was a health forum for women). Got a warning here for a too OTT description of The Donald 😁... but with a nice note! Love this forum. We are so lucky to have it, especially now.

There is also this invention called a VPN.  It prevents the site from seeing the poster's true address.  ISP is internet service provider so certainly multiple people will be using the same provider.  I believe we're talking about IP addresses.

When have I not been civil to anyone? In fact, I've gone out of my way to be kind, have a sense of humor, and take all the shit thrown at me. And I've never had any problems until lately. I have my suspicions, and have even "talked" to some of you to explain. But it's not what you think.

Just curious, which brings up a question I cannot answer: Is there any Trump supporter, journalist or pundit who is deemed credible in the media?

By credible, I mean a conservative who follows anything akin to my questions above, (using facts, credible references, civility, decency) or a conservative who can dialogue within something like the parameters/rules of this thread?

No untruths...and none of the above. Just my honest opinions as always. And my last note was about taking a break due to more important issues that need my attention. I was going into read only mode, but when you all start speculating the worst (as always), I have to defend myself. I probably shouldn't say another word. It wouldn't do any good anyway.

To me, refusing to vote for the one person who could keep Trump from becoming president again is at least acquiescence in a Trump presidency.
