I was actually thinking one of their backpacks would falloff of them on that cliff and into the water then bye bye money.

TPTB wouldn’t let no one reach the summit in my opinion.  But it would be funny if it happened. Sorry folks your one and only season of  this show thanks for watching.

Indeed!  Hate watching can be so much fun!

I too want to see them all fail and end up with nothing but alas like so many others here, I don't think production will allow that to happen.

Then we'll throw our virtual turds at the "winners"😎

That he is.

I think the fit speedy ones are questioning getting rid of the ones fitter contestants. If they had done that , then they could have fought it out at the end and be assured of someone getting money.   I think team slo pokes now have the majority but no way could they get rid of the fit ones at this point.  I think they need more experienced climbers to help them.   Should be interesting.

So did they take the fog day away from the 14 days or was it a wash? What if it was foggy for three days and the contestants balked and said no way are we going to hurt ourselves and try the trek? I’m sure production would have a fit.

Ratings for Episode 4:  2.01 million viewers

So it went up a tiny bit from the week before, but it's still down a million from the premier.  I don't think it's coming back next season.  It's got to be incredibly expensive to produce and they'd need bigger ratings than 2 million viewers to continue.

What is the drop-off from Survivor, its lead-in show?  That's probably more predictive of renewal than the show's own viewer numbers.

Quite a drop-off:

Sept 29   (Aired on a different night than Survivor)

Oct. 9      1.96 million to Survivor's 4.14 million

Oct. 16     1.82 million to Survivor's 4.02 million

Oct. 23     2.01 million to Survivor's 4.35 million

So it's losing over half of Survivor's audience.

That says something that The Summit can't even keep 50% of Survivor's viewers.  I wouldn't be surprised if CBS pulls it at some point and puts in reruns of Elsbeth or Matlock (as they seem to be playing those as often as possible).

What CBS should really do is rerun an earlier season of Survivor or The Amazing Race.  I would be interested in seeing if the OG version would pull in more viewers than the 'new era'.'

Letters from loved ones?  It’s been like a week!

These idiots still don’t know they’re not playing Survivor.  Dennis talking about immunity or an advantage in the bag?  Ugh.

I agree that Pati was going too slow but to say that Dusty was going too fast? Too aggressive too fast?  Pati was the only one not able to keep up.  That seems like a Pati problem.

At least they’re not total morons and voted Pati out.  There was no way she was going to reach the summit.

I hope the remaining legs get a little more difficult. Outside of the very first checkpoint, they really don’t seem like they’re having any problems making them.

Let’s see. Should I vote out the person who will keep everyone from reaching the summit, or should I vote out the person who will be able to help whoever is remaining and have any least SOME chance of reaching the top? 🤔 This is such a stupid show.

So…..the producers sent their ghoulish messenger with the contrived plot twist that basically said “Patti isn’t good tv, we have to keep a camera crew back to film her so y’all need to eliminate her so we can keep this thing moving. Eliminate denis later you dumbasses” ….only to find out that everyone was still conflicted on who to vote off… the pace setter or the anchor….in a race to reach the summit of a mountain in an allotted time.

yeah.

Oh, thank god Pati is gone. I'm sure she's a really nice person, but she is slow as molasses in January.

Why on earth did some of these folks sign up for this show?  Do they have a death wish?   Getting to the summit is hard work, even if you are in shape.  I can’t imagine how this show got green lit.   And I’m shocked there have been no significant injuries yet.

Apparently it is an Australian show according to one poster above so it was already vetted for safety.  It just is boring as hell.  An hour dedicated to the one "hazard" of that episode is not good TV.

Dusty is a dick.  It looks like they made the checkpoint in plenty of time and he broke the rules when there was no reason too.  Yes Pati should have been gone several episodes ago but these idiots vote out all the better climbers so I would have loved it if they kicked Dusty off period without a vote because he did indeed break the freaking rules.

Again, someone like Geoff would have helped her even though she was lagging thus playing by the rules.  Then when you get to camp vote her off after you followed the rules.

Cat Lady is right.  They will regret voting off Robert (and Geoff too) because they were leaders that cared enough to help the others unlike crappy Dusty and his "I only see people as money signs" mentality.

I think it is impossible to keep up the appropriate pace to reach the summit in time and wait for slow Patti with the bum knee to keep up. I call BS that she was totally out of sight of the group. I think Dusty is doing a good job of setting a reasonable pace and helping others.
I’m not a fan of Becky- JoJo who insists she is secretly running the game. What are you doing exactly?

I think someone said that the contestants signed up for a reality show but they didn't actually know what show they were signing up for.  I think that kinda makes sense as many of these people wouldn't have signed up for this.  Even with the gear they were provided it seems some of them are just so unprepared.  How many of them were climbing up the rope, in snow, with no gloves on.  Your hands are going to be freezing and probably torn up from the rope.

What's with the boots they all got?  At first I thought they were all getting new hiking boots but it actually looks like they're Uggs or something which are not hiking boots.  They got camp boots?

It did sound like the weren't exactly sure what sort of show they'd be doing but, for insurance and liability reasons, they must've been required to have a physical and probably have achieved some basic level of fitness before being cast for the show.  Pati made it sound like her bad knee is an ongoing, long-term problem.  Why would she apply for any sort of physically challenging show at all?

I was shocked that prior to being forced to vote between Dusty and Pati that nobody was bringing up Pati's name to vote out.  Ridiculous!  As for Dusty being solely responsible for leaving Pati behind?  No-just last week we saw Rob (who was promptly voted out) stay behind with Pati; therefore any one of the others could have stayed back with her or even tell Dusty to take more breaks/slow down.  For me, when I was younger and in shape, I would walk ahead and then wait for the person to catch up.  Sometimes it's hard to slow one's stride/gait.

And then they had to 'debate' between Dusty and Pati?  Stupidity.  However, there is an evil side of me that kind of wants them to vote out all of the capable people and then flounder and not make any more checkpoints or the summit.

And, we so don't need to watch as much of the challenges.  I will say, though, that with all of the fast-forwarding that I do, it really doesn't take me very long to watch this show.

I think the producers want me to think that the helicopter is ominous.  Instead, I find it stupidly funny.

If I could not fast forward I would not be watching! I get that they are challenged but to watch them just dangle and scream a lot is boring and goes on way too long. I fast forwarded through each of their stupid letters. We get enough of their backstories during the show.

I commend whoever named Beckylee-Becky JoJo.

I would like to see them all fall down inches from the summit.

I have to say I completely got Therron having that panic attack. Sure intellectually he got that he was safety harnessed to high Hell but the rest of the brain went "we're going to dieeeeeeeeeeeee!" And took over.

I'm wondering how much aimless wandering their route uses.

Also, I would find it hilarious if they reached the summit and found an aerial cable car and a restaurant there.

I did an extreme FF of this episode just to see where this show was at. It was like, first they're hiking up a totally snow covered incline, then they're repelling DOWN this huge cliff that has no snow on it, then ziplining further DOWN. Then somehow they are at the next check point. Did they climb back up all that distance and more? I feel like they are really just meandering between all the pre-built challenges and traversing very little distance each day. I think they also get some helicopter-assisted relocating.

I was expecting it to be Pati getting to decide who to vote off because they kept leaving her behind. Like their getting penalized for not following the rules. I do think they made the right choice.

And it makes sense that they didn't know what the show would actually be about, considering how many of them are afraid of heights (I certainly wouldn't have signed up for it! I'd have been screaming like Therron). Though I still think they need some more creative challenges. And they need to show less of each one.

Back when I was still watching, in the first or second episode they showed the entire route.  I think, just due to the terrain, they have to hike up one mountain and then down into a valley before they start back up on the actual "summit".

I've said from the start that the only sensible vote is for the slowest climber, because they pose the greatest risk of delaying the group and preventing them from reaching the next checkpoint. I feel I need to qualify/clarify that position

Yes, the greatest danger should be eliminated so as to maximize the chance of success on the next climb. But the slowest climbers are not the only potential danger. A climber who is making irrational decisions or impetuous moves can also be a potential danger to the climb.

But it is obvious that TPTB want this to be a contentious game of threats, backstabbers, advantages and Hidden Immunity Idols. The ancient New Zealand Mountain Keeper (a medieval helicopter) watches over all!

So forcing the vote between Pati and Dusty means the Korean Krablouse gets another pass, while BeckyLee continues to think she's smart.

"Therron, you keep telling us how scared of heights you are. Well the time has come for you to decide. Are you going to put the fear of heights behind you and climb to the summit without further freakouts? Or are you going to throw in the towel now, and retire from the climb? Because if I have to put up with one more little snivel-fest from you and I will throw you off the mountain myself!"

Production: If you get around to making a Season 2: Fire  Manu Bennett and hire a duck-billed platypus instead.

Reminds me when Peachy said they don’t do survivor in cold locations because freezing doesn’t translate well on tv…much like starvation doesn’t really resonate either.

This show doesn’t covey risk very well….there isn’t a chance anyone is going to die on the rapel or zip lines any more than when we do it.  They aren’t tying themselves in and there are professionals there to check their harnesses.  They just have to manage fear and physicality.

This is driven home by the point where the Patis aren’t the obvious choice to go home.  If the players felt like They were in danger of not getting to the summit they would cut the slow people.  If they don’t care, we don’t care.  Hiking and rappelling in a big group for days isn’t really that compelling tv.  They should have done it more like competing teams with compasses.  Wasn’t there an adventure show like that from mark Burnett?

and there is no point to alliances when the producer can change the elimination at any time to “get rid of X or Y.”  Kind of like what they did also on this weeks Survivor.

Very true!  I do feel like survivor used to be much more formulaic in terms of casting a girl with a huge rack, or fitter bodies but now the formula isn’t adhered to as much, or at least I don’t seem to notice it.  Although it could be discussed that the lady who is 45 doesn’t get much naked time with her implants versus showing younger gals buttcheeks.

on this show it would have been nice to contrast Jojo siwa with a more Barbie type, unless there were some and I didn’t see the early episodes.  At least in terms of forming alliances or even dalliances lol, which we still don’t even know if there is a point to alliances.  I’m not getting the social experiment.  Maybe they should just cast really fit people.  Or maybe they should just keep this to one season lol.

you can see the same amount of adventure on Gordon ramseys uncharted.

If you're talking about Survivor 47, I've not started to watch yet. I collect episodes and binge-watch at the end.

Yes, they have a more diverse cast now, but they still have a couple hotties and a couple MILFs, plus several guys displaying their chests... Without question they always use a tropical setting near the water to promote more eye candy. Even if they have to employ the blur-wand thought the episodes.

But I am fine with the cold-climate setting of The Summit. I live close to a white-sand, Caribbean beach so I don't have to go to a Reality TV show should I suddenly want to look at scantily clad women.

I guess I’m annoyed at how fast we label someone a liar and untrustworthy.  Seems different than being strategic and manipulative on survivor.  Denis just seems like he wants the villain edit and thank goodness he’s willing to play a role so we have some type of edit each week!  If I were him I would have said “ i won’t carry anymore stuff unless you agree not to vote me out.  Let Amy or jennye carry the load then if they have such big mouths to get me out and how they won’t quit….but them not quitting is just for them to pull their own weight.  Here’s my backpack jennye!  Meow.”

Dennis still thinking the mountain keeper will be dropping an advantage of some sort for someone.  This isn’t Survivor.  Also Dennis, you’re trying way too hard to be the villain.  You’re just making yourself look like a dick.

I don’t understand the “I don’t trust Dennis with the money.”  Did they think he was somehow just going to walk off with it?

Dennis nominated again for some reason when it should have been Sue and cat lady.  At least the got the vote right and cat lady and her giant black and blue knee went home.

I still think the base camps are too close together.   These people seem to have no problems getting to the next camp even with all the delays they’ve been having on the obstacles.

I feel like the contestants must have gotten different rules than what they're telling us because their decision-making is baffling.  I actually resented last week when the producers basically dared them to choose between getting rid of their strongest participant vs. their weakest.  At this point, I'm rooting for the stupidity.  Don't force them to be wise.

I'd like nothing more for them to reach a point where they can't vote off their weakest participants, and they'd wasted elimination opportunities voting off stronger movers.  Let them self-sabotage.  At least that'd be an interesting consequence of the human condition of reality show participants.

I felt I'd like this show because I like Race to Survive type shows but it feels like all of the obstacles are the same thing--heights.  And the same people who have a fear of heights are the people freaking out in every episode over the same thing.

Manu Bennett was in The Price is Right yesterday when they gave away a trip to New Zealand.

I remember liking him in Arrow.  But hosting just isn’t his thing.   Not every hunk can be Joe M…. something I can’t spell who hosted Deal or No Deal Island.

I stopped watching Arrow after only a dew episodes but I've seen him elsewhere where he did a satisfactory job with the part.

Perhaps it is the "aloof expert outdoorsman" role he simply can't master? And we must consider too that perhaps his performance is perfect, in that it is exactly what the director(s) wanted from him? When actors do a miserable job, I try to remember that actors usually do their job under the direction of the director...

It seems to me that they all think only one person will be allowed to 'summit' and that's why they are so concerned about alliances and who is a 'threat.'  I watched the entire episode (fast-forwarding most of the obstacle and back stories) and realized I just don't enjoy this show.  I do, however, love the scenary-that lake is beautiful!  I will probably watch until the end (along with whomever else is willing to go the distance).  But, I will be out for future seasons if there are any.

The rope bridge they had to crawl over looked both terrifying and exhausting. It was interesting to see the different techniques they used. But, like all of the obstacles on this show, it went on for too long.

I wish they'd give a better sense of how long it takes if someone falls for them to get back to the other side. Is it like 10 minutes or 30? Do they have to get themselves back somehow? Does a crew member help them?

I think they did vote out the right person this time, considering her injury. Also, I was confused, as I thought they had to choose between the people who didn't carry the food or an extra backpack. I thought Dennis carried something extra, but maybe I'm wrong?

That’s a good point….some time context would be great in terms of the delay.  They are trying so hard to make it seem like they are alone out there with the editing but you can still see some of the crew.  Just be transparent with it….the line catches you and drops you to the safety point where you started.  It’s not like you go hurling to the bottom.  It would have been more fun if you don’t make it on the first try you’re out.

The whole last person takes the backpacks was dumb….hooked up the backpacks with help from the crew would have been more accurate.  And they didn’t have to be any more trustworthy than anyone else.

trying to figure out what would make this more exciting under this format and I can’t think of one.  The mountain hiking is steep…got it.  It’s occasionally cold…got it.  Wow snow…got it.  Wow these bushes are thorny….got it.   Yep…this mountain is still steep.  Wow it’s kind of slippery here…got it.  Hey watch out for the hole here!  And uneven terrain again!  Got it…cue the helicopter!

and didn’t they say the next location was inhospitable so that’s why they had to carry the food?  Was that the lake adjacent location or was this a multipart episode since we didn’t see any tents either?

I'm getting less and less motivated to watch this show, now. Six episodes in and still, not a single climber has exhibited a grain of sense. Manu continues to oversee the climb with all the personality of a mahogany stump.

It's inescapable, now. Production made a show about cooperation and group success, but are heavily pushing individual action and internal combativeness.

I don't think this show is worth the time it takes to watch it any more. It probably never did, but I thought it might be. I was clearly wrong.

The only reason I’m watching it now is because it’s after Survivor and my BF plays pickleball during that time lol.  I record Survivor but this is the first season I’ve seen it live.  If I went back to my normal routine I would neither watch this summit show nor record it.

Why cooperation?  This show would be better in a cutthroat format with sabotages or sabotaging others.🤣

In that case, the whole "Succeed as a group or fail together" mandate would be counter to the goal of the show. And perhaps some of the challenges would need to be tweaked so as to become more individual efforts.

But so long as they maintain the "All or none" aspect of the game, then no matter how unpleasant the Korean Krablouse might be, you have to ensure he gets to the checkpoint or you lose. So, when you get there and the time comes to eliminate someone, you don't just boot off his lying arse, unless he is the one person who is causing the group the greatest delay and disruption during the climb. If your BFF is climbing and causing more delays, they get the boot and the Krablouse gets to stay.

This show is so weird, because the imposed deadline is fluid as hell. If it wasn't they wouldn't have these adventure challenges on the path, and they would be able to skip a whole day. So the basic premise is already presented as a lie, which is a problem. It also presents a fake reason to vote people off. Why would you have to vote people off if you hit the base-camps "on time"?

The way they vote is also very unfair, because it's leading to herd mentality. Do a secret vote and maybe get some drama going that way.

Not sure what the deal is with "The Mountainskeeper" but she ain't it.

Very strange show that could be improved massively.
