Browncoat December 7 Share December 7 I had internet issues yesterday, so I'm catching up for both Thursday and Friday (it's already Saturday afternoon/evening here). For those playing along at home, I am just off the coast of Campbell Island south of the south island of New Zealand. The seabirds are astonishing! Yesterday, we were at the Snares Islands, and got to see the Snares Islands penguin. So cool. The seas have calmed considerably as well. Anyway, I missed Thursday's FJ -- I said Crocs. I've never had Crocs, but I don't like them and suspect they have a smell. I did get Friday's, though, because I know the Latin for death. 8 1 2 Link to comment
30 Helens December 7 Share December 7 An easy (for me) FJ saved me from a week of bagels. I was rooting for Zach by default, because Erin with her need to smile and nod at Ken after every correct response, and Dave with his very deliberate clue selecting, were slowing things down just enough to annoy me. I was surprised that they managed to clear the boards. Am I the only one who developed an earworm infestation after the “Gitchee Gumee” / “Superior” clue? 2 8 Link to comment

Bastet December 7 Share December 7 I watched with friends, so didn't keep track, which is probably a good thing as it was delayed here so we watched it after our movie rather than before -- three drunk people trying to get answers from brains to mouths was pretty funny. FJ was an instaget for me, though. And, checking the archive for TS, I got rodeo, boyfriend, ladylike, and dude (that one gave us a chuckle, talking about it always in terms of men -- we're in L.A. where it's not limited to humans, let alone a gender. Anyone and anything can be dude, especially when annoyed; my computer is "dude" on a weekly basis). The DNC category was depressing. But a no-hitter with 8 walks and 1 hit batter while on LSD cracked us up. 6 Link to comment

ams1001 December 10 Share December 10 December 9: 53% / 43% / 48% Terrible, no good, very bad game (also I got home late and missed the first round, and spent most of the second putting groceries away, so I mostly played the archive). In J I ran Those Etruscan Darners (lol), missed two in Mortal Matters and three in everything else. In DJ I ran Energy, missed two in Alliterative Movie Titles, three in Doves and What the "LL"?, four in Main Character, and totally failed history. I also guessed Corsica for FJ but I had zero confidence (as I obviously shouldn't have). At least I came up with a guess..? TSes: (J had 4; DJ had 3) I only got Flying Spaghetti Monster (may you be touched by his noodly appendage, Ramen. 🍝). 5 Link to comment
Browncoat December 10 Share December 10 Anchored off the coast of Enderby Island in the Auckland Islands group today, and it's a glorious day -- sunshine and blue skies (with a few intermittent and short-lived rain showers every now and then). And Yellow-eyed Penguins! They're a little freaky-looking, tbh. Anyway, I did not get FJ. I read the clue three times and had a hard time even understanding what they were looking for. I had no guess at all. I did glance at a couple of clues I found interesting, and that I thought the contestants would have gotten, but they were TS! Two of those were Flying Spaghetti Monster and Oscar Wao. I think tomorrow will be a sea day, hopefully, finally on our way to Macquarie Island. Fingers crossed the weather gods are with us! 14 1 Link to comment
Bastet December 10 Share December 10 I checked the archive during halftime. Mostly, I either didn't need to see the picture to know the response or seeing it wouldn't have helped me -- bougainvillea is the only one I had to give myself credit for. Getting the Flying Spaghetti Monster TS made me oddly happy. I only ran darners in the first round. I got all but gargantuan in words and all but English Premier in leagues, but missed missed two each in the rest. I ran LL and energy in DJ and got all but Zimbabwe in history, but missed three each in main characters (the two I got were guesses, but a correct response is a correct response) and doves and two in movies, I had no idea for FJ, so my J! week is not off to a good start, but I've had worse. 3 Link to comment

I was 100% sure I stood no chance of getting the clue about the Liv & Maddie actress and then I was annoyed for not having paid attention to the category because I could possibly have come up with Dove Cameron since I watched both seasons of Schmigadoon. 3 2 Link to comment
Bliss December 10 Share December 10 Agree with previous posters about Ken's pronunciation of crayons. Tonight, he said "houses" as if it is a true plural of house... yes, I know it's plural - but we pronounce it differently: more like howses. English is such a weird language at times. proserpina65 December 10 Share December 10 Not a great game for me. I only ran That's All History and Alliterative Movie Titles, and only had 4 categories where I got all but one clue (Geography, Miscellany, Etruscan Darners and A Flock of "Doves"). Would've run A League Of Their Own if CFL had gotten out of my mouth in time and I hadn't said "MSL" instead of "MLS". In my defense, I watch the Premiership, not the sub-par play of MLS. The only stumpers I got were Grand Canal, Flying Spaghetti Monster and Lohengrin. FJ was easy, though. I knew Corsica was, and still is, French, and that Sardinia was the island directly below it on the map. 4 1 Link to comment

Bastet December 11 Share December 11 I can't believe the hash browns TS. Again with the "women writers" shit. I ran meat & potatoes (which was a bit amusing, since I hate potatoes and don't care for most beef) and puns, but otherwise was off my game in the first round, missing two each in the rest. It was one of those atypical games in which I did better in DJ -- I ran legalese, science, and adjectives, got all but the South Island of New Zealand (I knew New Zealand, but that's as far as I could get) in islands, and missed two each in musicals and writers. ams1001 December 12 Share December 12 December 11: 67% / 61% / 64% Would have done pretty well in the first round if it weren't for TV Show Taglines, where I missed all but Survivor (which I really only knew through cultural osmosis; I've only seen a handful of episodes because my parents watch it), I missed two in Rhyming Last Names and Triple T, one in Political Oopsies and On the Ropes, and ran Transportation. In DJ I ran Historic Objects, missed one in Asian Americans, two in Old Testament and "X"-Rated Music, and three in US Place Names and Tough 4-Letter Words. FJ was beyond an instaget; only had to read as far as "lead boxes." Bastet December 12 Share December 12 Heh, Kit Carson. The temptation TS really surprised me (not that no one knew the quote, but that no one figured it out). Mustang Island and Grand Coulee Damn surprised me a bit, but not like that one. The western state of Illinois? I missed three in TV, but if not for that I'd have had a fantastic first round; I got all but sheepshank in ropes and ran the rest. In DJ, I only ran places. I got all but Olivia Rodrigo in Asian Americans (I have got to learn who she is; they seem to ask about her a lot) and all but tyro in words, but missed two each in music and objects and blew Old Testament entirely (shocking, I know [I really should have figured out PTL = praise the lord, and think with more time that would have come to me]). FJ was an instaget, though. 4 Link to comment
Browncoat Thursday at 09:44 AM Share Thursday at 09:44 AM Instaget FJ for me, from just off the east coast of Macquarie Island, where today we visited colonies of two types of penguins -- King Penguins and Royal Penguins. There were also weaner elephant seals all over the beach where we landed, and they were so curious and friendly! Or more like hungry and looking for their mothers. But, as their name implies, they have been weaned, and they're on their own. They'd come right up to us, though, sniffing our boots and booping our legs, then looking up at us with these sad, puppy-dog, liquid brown eyes. I could see my reflection in them. But we are now getting ready to motor north, through what is promising to be quite the storm system. The crew has bolted plywood or something to my window to protect it from high waves. Eek! I preemptively took Dramamine! 4 2 1 5 Link to comment
