I was thinking that I would have advised Ken to wear a different tie with that shirt. Maybe the small pattern on the tie marched with the check on the shirt but on TV I thought the red of the tie clashed with the shirt.

Olive crossed my mind but I discarded it. I didn't think it was laurel (although I don't blame anyone for guessing it) but I would not have thought of palm.

So I had a pretty good game last night.  Better in the first round than in the second, but still, I ran Beef, Photo, Laugh, Short Stories, Travel USA and "More" Or "Less".  I got all but one clue in Dams, Vocab and History.  (Should've run History but Joey said Galileo before I could.)

The stumpers I got were Steve Martin, Emily, Mystic, the Ballet Theatre and Mikhail Baryshnikov.  I have a book about the history of the American Ballet Theatre which includes that picture of Eugene Loring.  And it was my love of Misha Baryshnikov which inspired my interest in ballet, so that one was an instaget.

Unlike FJ, where I also said "laurel".

I wanted Eamonn to win because, well, look at him, but he really lost steam in DJ.  But unlike some other recent games, I liked all three contestants so I was okay with the winner and the possible wild card.

It seems like the Wildcard tournament has been pretty lacking in women contestants. Hoping they've already qualified for TOC.

57% / 47% / 52%

Terrible game. In J I missed three in "B" Pictures and two each in everything else. In DJ I missed one in Rhyme Time, two in Drama, Mish Mash, and Bath, three in Swampy America, and all five in Science (that's usually a decent category for me, too).

But I got FJ! (My only one of the week and it was an asterisk! Which I find a little surprising...)

TSes: (J had 2; DJ had 3) I got your last breath, knight plight, and mopey Dopey (helped that the one without a beard was a mini crossword clue recently).

in my defense, I was sure this wasn't right, but I said Donald Trump, because all I could think of was "You're fired."  LOL.  Gunfire never entered my head and I didn't know how you could throw away fire.  But, once the answer was revealed I totally remembered that.

I got the missed clues of smile, ursa minor and mopey dopey.

I got the entire category of 10 right.

I did not get FJ, but it was so obvious after the answer was revealed.  I was stuck on fire as flames, and just couldn't figure out the clue.

And the only TS I got was breath.  Not my best night.  It's been a long week.

Oh, man, second place guy, talk about “throwing away your shot”!  I know they don’t know the status of previous games (as far as who the potential wildcards were) but surely he should have thought his balance (something like 18k, I think!) would have put him firmly in the running.

Anyway....No Hamilfans on last night's show?  Wow!  The entire show is about how Alex "won't throw away his shot" - and then proceeds to do just that.  And Aaron Burr standing back to "wait for it...wait for it..."  And then doesn't!

Also, what was with all the paintings? Was it "Nekkid Art Day" on Jeopardy last night?! 😁LOL even Birth of Venus, although they didn't show it, just described it!

I don't have any strong opinions about Adam either way but I hoped Jen or Paul would beat Will so I'm glad they're getting another chance.  Drew and Joey are my favorites of this bunch and Will is my least favorite. I'd like to see Drew advance just to see him pitted against Drew Basile and how Ken would read the names.

I panicked for a second when I saw channel 7 was doing a special report on the inauguration, but channel 6 was not, thank goodness (7 is from NYC, 6 is from Philly but not in HD).

Terrible game...in J I missed one in Museums, two in MLK, This & That and Back Words & Forward, three in Farm Tools, and four in British Sitcoms. In DJ I missed one in Politics and Starts with D, two in Broadway and Psychology, and four in French Geography and 18th Century Writing. No clue for FJ (well, I guessed it was a submarine, at least).

TSes: (J had 5 + the DD; DJ had 3, assuming I counted correctly since the archive is only partially complete at the moment) I got department store.

Drew can wear short sleeves for the rest of the tournament, please. (What is a mouse? 😄)

I amazed myself by getting FJ.  It was obviously a nuclear submarine but I figured they would want the name and, after thinking I would never come up with it,  it miraculously came to me.  Thank you, Jules Verne.

Not sure how that would've worked. Would they accept either one?  They don't do BMS in FJ.

I think they definitely needed the name, not just generic nuclear submarine.  

A U.S. Navy website says its journey from New London to Norway in 1957 opened up Arctic waters previously ruled by the Soviets

So, presumably US Navy website mentions it by name, and it's the only one that opened up the Arctic waters and specifically went from New London to Norway in 1957.  Or at least did it first in 1957, clearing the path.

In J I ran State Animals and The Shape of Things, missed one in Found on Temu and From the Dutch, two in Authors, and three in Wild Card Winners. In DJ I missed one in Sci-Fi Abbreviations, two in 1925, Before & After, and Some Wear…, three in The Bible, and all five in B on the Sea. No clue for FJ again.

TSes: (J had 2 + the DD; DJ had 5) I got grizzly bear (DD), grills, and palazzo pants.

I was having a great night until FJ.I only ran one category, but there were several where I just missed one.  Interestingly in state animals and B sea the only one I missed was the top clue.

I came home to a cold condo and discovered my thermostat wanted new batteries. Picked a great day to die! Today's high was 19F.

If you cruise the Rhine, they make a big deal about the Lorelei. I wasn't too impressed. I was too busy being in awe of each new castle around every bend.

Knew grizzly bear and pallazo pants. Wishing Jay could have had a better game.

I watched both Monday and Tuesday’s games tonight. I was very disappointed to see Drew vs Jen in the first game because they were my favorites and I wanted both to do well. Wished they’d saved that matchup for later. 

Drew is becoming king of the callbacks. First Taylor, now a mouse. I know FJ is selected randomly, but in Drew’s next game, I hope the J! gods create a clue that seeks the name of a certain Robert Burns poem. Because two is a callback, but three is comedy gold.

I had no strong feelings for anyone in Tuesday’s game, but I can’t say I’m sorry Evan is gone. Maybe it was just nerves, but all the comments and interjections were getting on mine.

I'm sorry, Ken, but a squirrel in the toilet would NOT be cuter than a rat. And now I’m going to have nightmares about those nasty little psychopaths eating through my toilet. (Which would not be surprising, given they’ve already eaten two of my cars and several chunks of my house.)

No FJ for me either day. I’m co-opting the cold excuse and blaming my shivering shriveled brain cells.

Apparently the Jeopardy gods hate me, because I'm going to have to put up with Wil in the final.  UGH.

I got Alexander Hamilton right on Friday, yay!  Something about the clue made me think it had to be that duel and I figured it had to be said by the man who died.

Did not get Nautilis on Monday although I knew it must be the first nuclear submarine.  I said Enterprise, thanks to Star Trek 4, although I knew that wasn't the correct type of nuclear wessel.

Last night I guessed Lorelai Rock because I know a little about Rhine geography.  Didn't realize it had some connection to the Nibelung myths.

Don't have any particular favorite for tonight's show.  I like Marko, Mehal and Paul, so whichever one who wins is fine with me.  So far I only like Drew as finalists go; I will be rooting for him since he's been my favorite from the beginning.

I'm from Germany (by way of the US military), and didn't get it. The only Lorelei I can think of is Gilmore Girls, and I kinda hated her by the end of the show.

Amen. I think of squirrels as rats with fluffy tails, and I can't stand rats. Though aesthetically they might be a bit cuter. I'll give them that.

Yeesh, terrible game tonight (it's still cold, though at least my heat was still on when I got home). In J I missed two in Women, Literature, Not to be Confused, and School of Music, and three in Companies and Verb/Noun. In DJ I ran Anatomy, missed two in Salty Bodies of Water, Insects in Culture, and Whatcha Watchin'?, three in Chapel Rome, and four in Prefixed Pairs.

But I got FJ! It was a total guess of the only two British spy novelists I ever would have come up with, based on "double agent" in the clue. Never read either of them.

TSes: (J had 6; DJ had 4 + 1 DD) I got Debbie Gibson, Willie Nelson, and Good Times.

Between Debbie Gibson and Good Times being TSes, I am feeling old. (I was actually a little young for Good Times, not quite four when it ended, but I saw it in reruns. But I was prime age for Debbie Gibson; her debut album came out shortly before I started seventh grade.)

I got second and climate but I had the wrong prefix (guessed nano).

I didn't think of Fleming, wildly grasped at Graham Greene instead. Thought of LeCarre though.

Recognized Debbie Gibson before Ken said a word. Also knew Good Times, which incidentally is the show from which I learned the term "venereal disease". (Maybe they said VD and my mother had to explain it?)

FJ! threw me; I didn’t realize they were looking for two entirely separate authors. If I had recognized either of the character names, that would have helped. As it was, I was thinking they wanted a team of authors, and all I could come up with were Gilbert and Sullivan. Pretty sure they were the wrong genre, though.

Missing Good Times was definitely not dy-no-mite. 

I spent so much time staring at the names in FJ, trying to come up with some hidden clue or meaning, that simply naming famous British authors of spy novels never even occurred to me. I do like to overcomplicate things sometimes. But I probably wouldn’t have thought of Le Carré, anyway. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard the name, and I’m not sure I even knew he was British. (I did know “Le Carré” was a pseudonym, though, and had I known his real last name was Cornwell, that might have been a clue.)

The late Scooter once brought me a dead squirrel - dumped him in the dining room.  The only live things I've been given as gifts were chipmunks.  Honestly, I think Stella kept catching the same chippie because by the third time she let it loose in the house, it did three laps around living room and then shot out the open door.  The first two times, it hid behind the bookshelves.

I missed tonight's show as I was asleep. (I missed a Mothman clue?!??? Damn. I enjoy the Mothman Legend. I even have a T-shirt with him on it that I got at the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant.)  I did look up FJ on The Jeopardy Fan and was stunned to see that I actually had the right response!

I also guessed nano but didn't even get to second and climate in time.
ETA: If I had, I'd have realized nano-climate is probably only a thing on on Mork's home planet, Ork.

I haven't gotten a FJ in over a week.
I might try recording tonight's and watching it tomorrow morning anyway.
They've been sporadically preempted here (Rochester NY) lately for sports pre-game talk shows (lots of Buffalo Bills fans here), and it doesn't show up on the schedule ahead of time.

I was amazed that I got Mothman - I watched the/a movie a longtime ago, and for some reason it came right to my mind. Unlike many other things I'm far more familiar with. 😄

I was housesitting for my parents once and one of the cats caught a tiny mouse somewhere in the house and brought it to the living room. I thought it was dead but then it rolled onto its back and started screeching. 😢 I got the cats away and scooped it onto a paper plate. That's when the pizza guy showed up.

(I put the plate down on the porch so the cats couldn't get to it, paid for my pizza, then put the mouse out under a plant in front of the house. Checked on him once and he was still alive, and a little while later he was dead. The next morning it was gone; presumably became a snack for one of the neighborhood cats. Poor baby. But I guess the pizza guy got a story to tell.)
