Count me in, too, although I will be in New Zealand for the better part of December (and a little of November).  I'll use the archive (of course), but I really won't know when to post, as I'll be in the future.  Maybe Sundays in NZ?

Ohh, in the future! That is a conundrum. Maybe just the score w/o reference to the questions? Or Sundays, Sundays are fine. :)

Wow, New Zealand. That's one place I've always wanted to visit, but absolutely don't want to take that plane ride.

The plane ride is the one thing I'm dreading a little.  More than 15 hours from DFW to Auckland -- and I have to get to DFW, too!  But I will arrive back to the US before I leave NZ (my flight leaves NZ at about 1:30pm, and arrives in Dallas before 10am the same day).

Flying coach I presume. I could do it in business class but at my age & my bad back coach would be impossible, I can't sit up that long. I have to fly business to the U.K. now if I want to go home for a visit as I need the lie flat seats.

No, I ponied up for the front of the plane, but it's still a long time in a plane!

Going home to the UK is 11 odd hours so 15 shouldn't be too difficult up the front, especially if you're up the front front.

Hope you have a great time, watch out for those Hobbits.

I definitely will be visiting Hobbiton!  And yep, I'll be in the front front.

Between watching "Brokenwood Mysteries" and "My Life is Murder" on Acorn, it's really making me wish I could afford to even GO to NZ, plane ride notwithstanding. Both shows have lovely scenery, MLIM moreso than BM.

(Not to mention how handsome those Maori men are!)

So, if you played last year, you are already on the spreadsheet, and there is no need to confirm, right?

Here's a new contest to keep track of how many FJs you get correct vs. don't know for this season. Prizes will be awarded for at least two categories, most correct and least correct, and maybe other categories to be decided as the season progresses, so keep playing. FJs will be posted so if you miss a day or two, you can still keep score by updating all at once instead of daily. Have fun, and good -- or bad! -- luck everyone.

Here are the FJs for week one:

1. To set a record for longest solo journey by kayak, 2,010 miles, Helen Skelton traveled through this nation for a month.

2. Switching the syllables in the German word for building of a home gave this design & architecture school its name.

3. In 1789 this doctor proposed 6 articles on penal reform to the French Assembly, including one on capital punishment.

4. On Oct. 4, 1940, for the premiere of what’s been called his most famous movie role, Ronald Reagan was in this city.

5. POSTHUMOUSLY, AXEL PAULSEN WAS AMONG THE FIRST GROUP OF INDUCTEES INTO THE WORLD HALL OF FAME FOR THIS IN 1976.

I will post each week of FJs so everyone can update their scores if they miss a day or two.

My score is 2/5. Come on, everyone can beat that on both ends!

The new Jeopardy! season is almost upon us and a new FJ contest to go along with it. The Season 35 contest was lots of fun for all players -- at least that's what I was told! I hope everyone from S35 will be back to play S36, and new players are welcome and encouraged to participate. There will be prizes awarded at the end of the season for a variety of winners, so if you score high, low or somewhere in between, your chances of bringing home a prize are excellent. Plus, it's FREE!

And asterisks are back! As before, I will keep track of FJ TS clues. If you know the answer to a FJ clue that stumps all three players, you'll get an asterisk for that day. And qualify for more prizes at the end of the season. It's a win win!

FJ clues will be posted weekly, so even if you miss a day or two, you can catch up here. Then post your score for the week. I will give it a "heart" once it's been recorded. Remember, this is all for fun. No finger pointing allowed! Discussion of FJ clues and answers is allowed though.** I hope to see lots of familiar and new avatars here, starting next week. Questions? Just ask!

**Please: No comments or FJ discussion until the week's clues are posted and scores are posted. Late players thank you!

Basically, you keep track of your correct Final Jeopardy responses, and you get an asterisk if it was a triple stumper.  Each week, you come to this thread and post your record.  For example, "3/4 this week with one asterisk."

Bringing virtual food to the virtual dinner is optional.

And remember that the forum spoiler rules apply, so don't post your week's score or comment on FJ's before 7pm on Friday.  In Sabre's much earlier post, she asked people not to comment on FJ's until everyone's had a chance to post, but I think over time that has changed to "buyer beware" if you open the thread after Friday's show if you're not caught up.

I just realized in my example that I put 3/4 instead of 3/5!  🤣  Of course, every week has at least five Final Jeopardys.

Oh right.  And (was this precedent set this past season?  I'm not sure) if there's a tiebreaker that counts as a FJ as well, for the purposes of the contest.

It's almost always [some number] out of 5, e.g. 3/5.  One game in season 40 had a tiebreaker and we counted that as an extra FJ, so someone might have 3/6 that week.

Since the standard IS 5, rarely 6, I don't bother to post the five. Knowing I got 3, no asterisk, is sufficient without the "/5."

There will also be chatter here throughout the week.
As with the regular Jeopardy thread, don't post your FJ answer here until after 7pm ET.

So... if I understand correctly: every Friday, players say how many FJ they got right that week.

Monday through Fri at 7pm, we don't talk about our answers, but there is still talk in the thread. About what?

Maybe I should go look at a thread from a prior year.

I think I will play, but I hope there's room for low scorers! I typically do not know most of what the show wants you to know. I still like watching, though.

I wouldn't worry about a low score, we've all had weeks of 0/5 & even 2 or 3 weeks in a row. It's all good fun, gives a little more interest each day & nobody judges anyone's low score.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about that above.
We do talk about our FJ answers any day, just not mentioning the day's answer before 7pm, like on the main thread.

And sorry if that's still not clear.

I am looking forward to joining in "conversation" with folks smarter than I am.
Except for my daughter and son-in-law and 2 tiny grandsons, I seem surrounded by nitwits most of the time.

Thank you for reposting Saber's posts. I've changed it a little bit, by giving awards for the top three. But then, I may change it up each season (as I think I did this last season).

Yes, if there is a tie breaker, it will be included as an additional FJ.

@possibilities I read your posts so often, I thought you were already onboard! I look forward to your participation. As I am one of the low scorers, there is absolutely room for us. After all, there has to be a bottom of a curve as well as a top!

I'm ready!

@Browncoat - I spent a few weeks in NZ with my daughters a few years ago (end of Nov + first 2 weeks of Dec) and can't say enough about the beauty and pristine countryside... we "tramped" a mountain by Milford Sound, kayaked, saw penguins, did a ropes course in the 'jungle'... OMG, there's so much to see and do! You'll love it ;-) The plane ride is a great time to pray. LOL. We stopped at the Cook Islands for a week on our way back home... another paradise.

Nope, you're keeping track of your wins (and ignoring, when you can, the "failures")

Thank you @theartandsound for the answer, it's early and I was just thinking of weeks - which is the easiest number to find on my spreadsheet.

I know... but I was lowering my expectations for myself so I don't get disappointed later when I see the numbers.

So... 230 eps = 46 weeks? Is that right?

yep, 46 weeks is right. :)

The contest doesn't include primetime tournaments, so it's all just "usual" jeopardy, or whatever's in the time slot.

My expectations are lowered enough that I am happy (or at least content) when I see my numbers. 🙂

My purpose here is to lower the curve no matter how hard I try or how much I improve.
So far: Mission accomplished

Note of explanation/excuse: I didn't own a TV for 30 years, and lived off the grid entirely for about 7 years.
