If Monet wanted to stay at home and have a large family then I definitely think she should have made a point to STRESS this to the experts. One person supporting a wife and multiple kids is a huge responsibility financially and so salary/money IS the issue. A teacher or other middle class man probably would not cut it for her even if they had an established career.  So I still think the hits about his potential and not being ready for a family were kinda low. She never stressed that he wasn't right for her... she made it look like he wasn't ready period.

I don't see Jason or Doug being any more established than Vaughn... and Vaughn was the only one who served time in the military. It is all about perspective I guess.

I actually think Vaughn and Jason should be commended for their hustle.

Whether or not Vaughn is established enough is independent of whether or not Jason and Doug are. Jason and Doug are less established than Vaughn. Especially Doug who is a year older than Vaughn. Doug's career instability has been mentioned here. Jamie asked him if he was a schmuck.

One thing I do think Vaughn was right about is that Monet needs a 40ish successful man because someone her age or in his 30s just isn't "man" enough.

From what I can tell, men who are man enough at 40 were already man enough at 30. Even though Monet said Vaughn will make a good husband in 5 years. He might not. And it won't be because of his career path. Or because he's not a successful man. Vaughn, like plenty of men in his generation, seems to want more than he has or wants to give.

Why would a Paula or Alicia look alike want to cater to Vaughn? For that matter, why would any woman want to cater to Vaughn or any man within days or weeks of meeting him? Even if she married him at first sight. Maybe Vaughn can get what he wants. But this show was probably not the best place to go looking for it.

One thing I know for sure is that I would never, ever want a match maker and I would certainly not agree to get married, sight unseen.  With my luck, I'd ask for a slim, black man and find Flavor Flav waiting for me as I walked down the aisle.  Yeah Boyeee!!

Remember, there was not one, but TWO shows where women competed to date that beautiful man.  The experts would tell you how lucky you were to be matched up with such a catch.

This is why Dr. C is full of crap about how his super-duper CIA questionnaire weeds out those are lying or being disingenuous.  He should have smelled that Vaughn and Monet were not being truthful for what they were looking for, or did not understand their own needs well enough to participate in show.

When Monet was honest enough to say she was not the wife Vaughn was looking for (as many posters her astutely pointed out) the experts looked like they had been smacked.  I think that others are right about them being desperate to have some diversity, which is a horrible disservice to Vaughn and Monet.

Oh I remember those shows.  I guess the ladies felt it was worth it to "date" him as long as they got paid.  But yeah, the experts would tell me with straight faces how lucky I was.

All I can remember about Monet is that she worked in fashion, supported herself, loved her pup, and had her own nice apartment in Harlem.. She also had a tight circle of gfs, who all seemed down to earth and close to her. I thought Monet was attractive and comfortable in her own skin, with her own cute style of dressing. And, she wasn't afraid to appear on camera with no makeup. Monet struck me as the real deal, not a phony looking for her own reality show.

I believe she wanted to find love and monogamy with a decent guy who would give her emotional support and a contentment in life. She wanted him to share her interests, meet her friends, etc., because she wanted the guy to be a true part of her life. She wanted children, but I don't recall her saying she wanted to be a SAHM.

She worked in the city and did not drive, so she wanted to stay in the city. Vaughn, I think, lives in south Jersey/Philly area, which is a much more difficult public transport commute into the city than a northern Jersey commute. . I was never sure if Vaughn was still holding a 9 to 5 job during filming? He drove and owned a car, but if he was making that commute to work everyday, I can see him getting annoyed with it, very fast.

Still I think if Paula Patton had walked down the aisle to greet Vaughn, he would have made more effort to be a more flexible guy during the experiment.

I thought Monet started out with good intentions, and then Vaughn just drove her over the edge. She lost her patience, lashed out, opened her mouth. God only knows what really happened between them. But I was thinking about the reunion and Monets revelation that Vaughn asked for a handjob the night of her surgery?

I thought about the deeper ramifications of that request. Here are two people who just met under contrived circumstances. The guy has moved into the girls apt. The guy is hard to understand; he's unhappy, dissatisfied, thinks her dog is annoying, has no interest in establishing relationships with her friends, and has never offered to set up a get together with HIS friends so the girl can attempt to be part of his life and circle.

Then the camera crew is gone, she's there with an immobile leg and Mr Wonderful wants sex NOW -- probably as repayment for giving her a ride home from the doctor. It would not surprise me if Monet felt some element of fear or extreme wariness dealing with the guy. As he showed during the reunion, he CAN lose his temper, break out the sailor vocab and turn into a dick on a dime.

What I truly find unfathomable about Vaughns so-called traditional marriage attitudes is how he survived in the military for over a decade! Taking orders, eating in the mess hall what he was served and when he was served, being responsible for keeping his quarters clean and neat, bringing in his laundry, etc, etc. And we also saw his own apt was clean and orderly. He asks guests to remove their shoes at the door.

So how and why did he think a traditional marriage would equal a woman becoming his keeper? His on-call sex provider, chef and maid? How did he ever survive the military if he requires others to do all the heavy lifting?

I am sincere when I say that Vaughn needs therapy to understand who he is and where he is going. Maybe that's what Monet means when she says Vaughn has potential? Maybe she saw the problems he had and the falsity of his Mellow Man facade? Who knows? But she entered the experiment in good faith and with high hopes and they paired her with a guy who just didn't care about her at all.

If the wives did get together for support during filming, and Monet heard about the patience and decency of Doug and Jason, it would have only been more aggravating and hurtful to Monet. She got a lemon, while Jaime and Cortney got peaches.

I know this a little late to ask but does anyone else wonder if Jason stayed with Cortney initially to not hurt her because he's such a caretaker?

Hey 62Great, you may be right, but I didn't see it that way.

I believed Jason when he said he thought Cortney was gorgeous when he first saw her. And then, I believe, Cortneys basic kindhearted nature came through and touched Jason for real.

The fact that his mom was dying is definitely significant. Jason was alone and in grief. Cortney was there, kind, loving, willing to buttress the guy.

I believed in Cortneys sincerity. To me, it shone through.

I am a pushover by nature, but a skeptic by experience. It's hard for me to fall for bs. I concluded that Cortney was the real deal and Jason was super lucky she showed up at that tragic time in his life. Providence? May be. God works in VERY mysterious, kookooluks ways.

I wish them true happiness. Jamie and Doug, to me, are made for tv nonsense and destined for breakup. Monet and Vaughn are history. But, to me, C and J have a real chance at happiness.

You're me in another place!! These have been my thoughts exactly.

I too always believed in C being in it for real. I think my doubts about Jason revolved around the situation with his mother and guardiness (is that a real word) due to past relationships. I actually think he fell in love with Cortney early on, before she stared falling in love with him but didn't want to admit it even to himself.

well I finally watched this stuff, and now im throwing in my two cents:

Cortney and Jason: They were cute. I fell asleep but they were cute. They feel sincere to me.

Vaughn and Monet: it was both their faults. Not one of them is the victim, unless we mean both of them when it comes to the "experts." Pompous pricks. Yall dropped the ball, now own up to it. EVERYONE could clearly see they didn't work, just admit to your mistakes. I got my life watching them squirm when Monet was talking. While I still don't care for Monet, this was the most honest I felt she was on camera and I liked that she told it like she felt. Now for the marriage I saw in tv:

I vouch for Vaughn the most because I feel I get where he's coming from the most. While he looked unsavory in tv the most at face value, Monet did her shit too. I wonder how she was with the cameras off. Hell, her voice annoyed me too, still did during the reunion. And if she really did act one way when the cameras were rolling just to be totally different when the cameras went off, that is off putting. I wouldn't care for that either. I don't think his yelling and swearing was that serious, he was mad as he should have been. He's one of those ones that probably don't say it like they mean it when it's felt, so instead it just boils over. Maybe trying to not lose it too much was one reason for the shaking. And I don't think Monet said too much when she mentioned the hand job thing, I wouldn't be here for that mess either, coming out of surgery.  Out of all 6 people, I feel that Monet is the one I've seen the least on a vulnerable level (then Doug.) Maybe Vaughn wanted to connect too soon (I suspected she wasn't as open as he was hoping) but if you getting married by "experts" ON TV, and you're already aware of your defensiveness why the hell bother? Get a little vulnerable or wash your hands with it. They are just not compatible. And neither one is innocent.

AND did he really say he wanted an Alicia Keys type? I don't remember him saying that, I might have missed that after waking up after Cortney and Jason, or was that something that Monet just felt herself so she put out there? Or has she been reading some forums too? If so, that's some bullshit, considering not just his appearance but his mother's. Humble yourself, like your father did.

Jamie and Doug: While I do feel that they fit the "Hot Wife, Average Husband" thing, but am I the only one that doesn't think Jamie's all that good looking? Yeah she got him beat but not by much to me. Make up covers a bunch. Anyway, I want to believe they'll work but I definitely feel that she was playing up for the cameras. I want to believe she's sincere but idk. I still feel like Doug is wowed by her "beauty" and pleased he was able to catch someone that looked better than him. Still think she needs therapy. I liked him joking though.

If Vaughn said he wanted an Alicia Keys/Paula Patton type it wasn't shown on camera. I really do think if the show host wouldn't have kept questioning Vaughn & Monet they would have remained civil, but of course what's the fun in that for the viewers? LOL. Of course Vaughn is a "model" and I can see him being vain enough to think he deserves the finest looking of women (not that Monet wasn't attractive).

I am the type who keeps it bottled up and then when I finally let it out I blow (and curse) so I will give Vaughn some slack for doing that. Although I was entertained to hear about the "nothing's wrong with your hand" comment, I still think it was wrong of Monet to tell that. My boyfriend and I joke around a lot and if some of the things we said were taken out of context we would look like idiots too.

Vaughn could have been trying to be funny. I do wonder if he was trying to be funny with the ménage a trois comment in an earlier episode, because I have a hard time believing that knowing he was on camera he would be so dumb to say that. Or maybe he was over Monet then and just trying to get a rise out of her.

Monet certainly doesn't seem like a prude with some of the off color comments she has made so I felt it was a bit disingenuous to be clutching her pearls at the use your hand comment.

I did actually like Monet and would go out to brunch with her. :) I just think like we have said here that by asking for a traditional mate she should have been more clear about what she wanted.

Skeevy moment... did anyone else see her cleaning out Doug's nose sans napkin, hankie, tissue... just her finger way up in there. I do think getting camera time is what drives Jaime. Anything goes as long as the lens is pointed her way.

Eeew to the nose cleaning. I must have missed them saying there would be another season following them. That makes it even more clear why Jamie was in full ass kissing mode with the "experts", she wants to stay in their good graces to get a lot of air time like she did this season.

I just rewatched the Vaughn and Monet segment on the FYI website.  It was torture to get to that segment because of the constant advertisements (No, I do not want to win a virtual date with Josh Duhamel!)  Anyway, Monet says that Vaughn told her that he wanted his wife to look like an Alicia Keys/Paula Patton type.  Vaughn doesn't confirm or deny that he said it, but he goes on to say that he specified that he wanted a black woman.  (I still think that it wasn't the skin color, and Kerry Washington or Gabrielle Union would have been just fine for him.  He just wasn't in to Monet from the neck down.)  He also owned up to the "hand job" remark and he was not joking when he said it.  You could tell he was frustrated, angry, and hurt, just thinking about the time they spent together.  Monet was calmer but you could tell that she was frustrated, angry, and hurt, too.  Their personalities were like oil and water. It must have been hell for them living together.

I am 99.99% sure Vaughn talked about his desire for a Paula Patton or an Alicia Keyes "type" during the reunion. Monet was on the sofa next to him, and opened her eyes wide.

If I am wrong or imagining that moment, someone please correct me.

Eta: Thanks Ohwell!

imo, If Monet was lying, Vaughn would have exclaimed, "I never said that!" So I believe Monet.

Sigh. As I've previously posted, Vaughn mistook this experiment for a sci-fi exercise or a smorgasbord! Paula's eyes, Alicias nose and voice, etc.

Ha! Bride of FrankenVaughn!

Also, I guess the show is really low budget. Don't people usually look better at these reunion shows? Doug and those dang pants.

YMMV but I didn't feel like Monet mentioned this to show how scandalized she was by the comment or how it offended her delicate sensibilities. I thought her point was to give an example of how Vaughn at times was plain disrespectful and rude to her and to each his own but I thought her point was made. Someone who has just had surgery, no matter how minor he may have felt it was, says she's not up for sex and your response to her is that her hands aren't broken...seriously? She should have said back to him that his hands weren't broken either so if he was that horny he could take care of it himself.

The idea of 'The First Year' scares me. I think Courtney and Jason have a chance but continuing in a reality series will decrease their chances. And I think Jamie and Doug are in it for the "fame". Jamie was obvious about it and it became more clear in Doug along the way. They seem like they might make all their decisions based on what's going to keep them in the spotlight and keep the ratings up. I worry Jamie will get pregnant for the story line.

Imo, Monet had a cute figure. However, on their honeymoon, when Monet wore a swimsuit for water fun, her thighs were large and cellulite-ridden. Imo, Vaughn was turned off. I talked about it in the Honeymoon episode (or the following episode? Can't remember.)

For some ridiculous reason, Vaughn, imo, thought he was God's gift to women, and required a partner who met ALL his specs. To me, V is a small, deluded, spoiled little man. Does he have the right to look for a woman who fits his description of beautiful and fit? Of course. But when he cherrypicks a woman's nose or hair or thighs, then, to me, he's objectifying and proving that no one woman will ever fit his dream girl. Imo, he's not serious about finding a life partner.

Instead, imo, Vaughn needs a maid service and, also, an escort service.

Oh I get what you're saying. I like her shape myself. My issue wasn't with the figure he might have not liked but with the comment that Monet said about him and black women. When she that, I was ready to listen close to what she was going to tell. Yes he might have said he asked for someone black but when I think Paula or Alicia I don't think curvy, he could have said Beyonce and that would make more sense to me. I'm thinking that she was trying to say he preferred someone lighter or less so called "stereotypical" looking, more smaller features and thinner but still curvy. That's what I take issue to because that's going beyond someone's body. To be as brown as he is, that doesn't look right to me. I can totally see why Monet wouldn't care for that, I sure wouldn't. There's having a taste, and then there's a colorism issue. I don't know if he has one or not but if he does and loves his mom like he acts like he do (and they look just alike to me,) then humble yourself, like your father did.

I definitely think there is a colorism issue at play and I could write a dissertation on why, but I won't. Vaughn wouldn't be the first or last black man with a brown mama who preferred light-skinned women. The fact that Vaughn didn't deny what Monet was trying to imply was very telling. I also think it's pretty telling he didn't deny making uncomplimentary statements about black women.

I don't see any point in determining who is more "at fault" in the case of Vaughn and Monet.

To me, they just weren't compatible. And because of that, they didn't get along with each other, and got into nasty little spats. They were stuck with each other for the first month, so it was like being on a bad blind date that lasted 30 days.

To anyone who has ever met someone from on-line, such as Match, or Eharmony, etc.... its not uncommon to think you have so much in common with someone (on paper), and then in person, its just horrible. And there is no logical explanation for it.

The same thinking can be applied to Courtney and Jason. they could have looked like a match on paper, and then found that their personalities don't really mesh in real life. But they did, and they found each other physically attractive, and so they have chemistry, which leads to motivation to be kind to the other person and have empathy when there is a misunderstanding... all the things that Vaughn and Monet never had, and aside from being physically attracted enough to have sex at the very beginning, their personalities were just not a match from the get-go.

All the other stuff about roles in marriage, etc, was secondary to all that. They would have been able to work all that out had they both felt attracted enough to each other to want to make things work.

And I don't blame either of them because I don't believe a relationship in the first few weeks should require much work.

I did notice that Doug was once again wearing a sloppy-ish tee shirt.

Yes, and it seemed Jamie was trying to "match" him by wearing a jersey material dress with some style to it. Doug seems to consider a t-shirt and jeans dressed-up. I guess in comparison to his sweats that he wears for baseball it *is* dressed up. :)

I've only seen the "Big Decision" episode and this one and I am exhausted by Jamie.  I suspect that she thinks her constant, "I can't trust people" makes her sound like she's intriguing and deep.

I bet if, prior to the show, she had found a man with deep enough pockets for her she would've easily given up her "trust issues."

And I think the only reason that she stuck with this marriage is because she thinks doing so gives her that Trisha/Ryan never ending reality show fascination.  I'm sure she's hoping for some sort of reality show that just focuses on their "love story" and then babies.

Doug may still be talking the talk, but he certainly didn't seem like the same geeky guy with moles (since removed).  Initially when he came out he pretty much was leaning away from her.  I'm with the other poster here that thought he now has some level of fame, has a bunch of women who felt sorry for him because he was constantly being reminded that she wasn't attracted to him, and is soaking up that fame.

Cortney and Jamie. I believe they legitimately love each other.  But for the life of me, I don't see what Cortney sees in him.  While he seems like a nice guy, I don't think he's that attractive and he looks about 10 years younger than she does.   Doesn't strike me as particularly bright.   I think she's a beautiful woman.

I think her features are just about perfect (despite my keen visual scrutiny i could find no imperfections worth mentioning); however,  that thing she does with her top lip pulled up high to expose her top teeth makes her seem kind of aggressive - or savage-like.  Doug should take heed.

I so agree.  I also mentioned previously that Doug was very different with Jamie at the reunion.  In all the previous episodes, he was always touching or hugging her in some type of way.  At the reunion he seemed indifferent and somewhat aloof towards her, she was the one doing all of the touching but IMHO he was not recipocating.  Sorry, I'm still not buying the relationship, but I could be wrong.

Perhaps they will be the ones to stick together (for whatever reason) and Jason and Cortney won't last even though they both say they are in this for a lifetime.

This was very obvious to me, too. His body language was turned away from her, he wasn't hanging on her like we've always seen him do. His attitude said "eh" in response to whatever she babbled on about. Appears his infatuation may be waning.

How the heck does she go from he lies, therefore he will beat me and I will be stuck with the kids to I want babies now in 4 months . Everytime she opened her mouth during the show I just wanted to shout.

1. Children are not mandatory

2. You can spend some time getting to know your partner before bringing spawn into the mix there is not a time limit

3. He will lie again, hey I would lie on purpose for fun just to see your head spin again if I married you.

4. Abuse is not just physical numbskull how about you analyze your own behaviour, because you are far from perfect.

Now that there is the spin off I think Jamie is going to cling on a bit longer, I thought she would be doing the tearful media rounds by now boo hooing about the evil untrustworthy slub she married but the experts were so great so it was not their fault blah blah blah.

Just can't get over the hysteria about the freaking cigarette. Which, I suppose, makes me as bad as Jaime...

Monet tweeted Vaughn was going to nominate her for worst cooks but you could tell they were just kidding around about it. Yes, they are still talking and kidding around.

Jenelle is getting a ton of support on Twitter regarding her relationship with Nate. Unbelievable considering we all watch the same show. Unless, in some parts of the world they broadcast an entirely different version. Oh, wait... this is about MAFS. Sorry.

Jaime said she stole a pair of sunglasses. I wouldn't have known this except she was on Monet's page. It took a lot not to tweet back and ask her to lay off the hysteria about the smoking incident. But, like the Kardashians, acknowledging that she was there would have broken several personal vows.

Actually started out to follow Vaughn on Twitter but he and Monet were having such a grand time of it I now follow her also. AND she retweeted a couple of things I posted. Told you she is a sweetie pie.

I'll bite, who are Jenelle & Nate? Did I miss them somehow?

Don't bother, Mac. I was talking about Twitter updates on MAFS and got carried away posting tweets, which included Jenelle and Nate. I just left it in. Jenelle and Nate are from Teen Mom...

Not surprised that Vaughn and Monet can joke around now that they're out of that relationship.  I'm glad they're "friends."

I kind of hope that Jason and Cortney aren't on Twitter and are just enjoying their marriage.

I'm pretty sure they're both on twitter and they tweet pictures of themselves posted on their instagram, every now and then. They just aren't as vocal on it as Jamie which is not surprising considering how all over social media Jamie was even before the season ended.

Are Jamie and Doug for sure getting a spin off??? Crap anything will fly for tv now

The spin-off will follow both Jamie & Doug and Cortney & Jason. When I originally watched the reunion on Amazon Instant Video, Kevin Frasier (the host) announced "MAFS - The First Year" would continue to follow both couples. They've since taken that part of the video down, so I think they weren't quite ready to announce it yet. J&C and D&J all pretty regularly re-tweet comments people tweet to them about wanting a spinoff to continue to follow them, so I'm quite sure it will happen.

Admittedly I would like a follow up of the couples but I hope it's not constant filming for the next 6 months. I'm hoping it will be like the past 6 where they just catch up with them and have maybe done just a week or so of filming. Anything more I think will be detrimental to J & C's marriage. Of course this would be great for Jamie, I'm sure she'll do all she can to be "top dog" including getting pregnant, not sure how Doug or his family will hold up especially if the relationship is not real.

I was reading the other popular thread and a Jamie fan posted how shocked they were by how much Jamie and Doug post about their personal lives, sounds like it's almost daily.  Other's may be right about Doug being fully in on the attention/fame seeking.  I can't see his family being too happy about that.

I'm surprised that Doug can afford to buy Jamie diamonds.

This was very obvious to me, too. His body language was turned away from her, he wasn't hanging on her like we've always seen him do. His attitude said "eh" in response to whatever she babbled on about. Appears his infatuation may be waning.

Maybe Doug is secretly rich and wanted to see if his new wife would love him for him and not his money.

Hehe, JK!

I wouldn't read too much into his body language. I think it's only natural to not be all over each other at all times after living together for 5 months, but maybe I'm just weird. Jamie posted this the day after the decision episode aired: https://twitter.com/jamienotis/status/509674918989279232 If that's not the look of love then I don't know what is. I wouldn't blame him for freaking out about all her baby talk though. I'm sure he would like to enjoy the honeymoon phase for a while before playing second fiddle to a baby. I don't think Jamie's baby fever is just attention seeking either. I mean she is a labor and delivery nurse, so she's around babies all the time.

I see nothing wrong with wanting careers that put you in the public eye. Jamie doing hosting on the side, Doug is an aspiring comedian. It is a valid way to earn a living.

I am also wondering why people think Doug can't afford to buy Jamie diamonds. He can, and did. My boyfriend can't afford to buy me one but that's ok.
