Jeopardy! Masters

Recommended Posts

I too love Victoria. I like Isaac and Juveria too.

That triple rhyme category was so difficult and was a stumper for three out of five, I think. You have to be so fast to get those types of questions. My FJ score was 0 for 2.

I should have been able to dredge up anaphylaxis but Luanda was a never know. I knew it had to be a colony other than Brazil.

Boo!  I very much wanted Victoria or Juveria to win the whole thing (even though Juveria doesn't know how to pronounce Betty Friedan's name), so was thrilled they were both in the finals.  After that dominant win by Victoria in the first semi-final and being the only one with points after the first final, I was really hopeful going into the second final she'd emerge the champ again.

That was a great game, even though it didn't end as I wanted; when Juveria hit that true DD in DJ, I scared my cat cheering.  I also got a look from her when I loudly groaned at Yogesh hitting his own true DD.  Unlike many posters, I don't hate him, but I adore Victoria and Juveria, so that late surge was a bummer.  But I really like the charity he highlighted.

Yogesh torturing that poor buzzer in his unsuccessful attempts to ring in repeatedly cracked me up.

I also enjoyed the several times they all apologized to each other for being first to ring in on a clue that was tailor made for another.  Especially when Victoria got there first on pillars of Islam and Juveria said her grandfather was going to be upset.

Agree with all this. Related to what you said, Victoria told a good story about learning good sportsmanship.  She always claps for other contestants’ successes.  Yogesh told a good story about his nerdy childhood TV appearance. Juveria told a good story about her family and her kids’ friends. There was a two-hour onslaught of really hard questions at breakneck speed.  I can’t even remember them. An impressive season.

Add me to the list of people who think only the answer should be written in FJ. Ken gives them plenty of time to thank whoever they want. Juveria is lucky they accepted her St Lucia. And Victoria could just wear a pin that says Hi Nora ❤️. Maybe I'm just cranky at the results, even though I don't hate Yogesh. I wanted Dr J to win but there was a dearth of medical questions in the tournament.

Whenever I know something, I think that means it's easy (I am a low scoring fan), so I was shocked nobody knew "shadow docket".

That was one of the few TS I got across all four games (I don't keep track of my performance in these games the way I do the regular ones - too depressing 🤣- just jot down the TS and the rare occasions I run a category):  shadow docket, Veronique, energy star, quad, and Canyonlands (I've hiked through there).  I ran Broadway musicals, Black history, female activists, and foods.

I got FJ in the first semi-final, but that was it for the night.

My Masters experience always consists of lots of not being able to spit responses out fast enough mixed with a good bit of "Who the hell knows that?!" marveling at some of the responses.

I get why they organize the tournament the way they do, but part of me wishes it was total $ (or points) per game, cumulative, that determined the winner. Dominating the game and winning by 20k dollars/points should have more weight than winning by a dollar/point.

At least Yogesh was less villainous.
And it was a close game with no losers.
They all went home with enough money to buy a house.

Not Juveria.

Housing in Ontario is expensive. The average house price in Whitby, where Juveria lives, is nearly a million dollars - even converting USD to CAD, it doesn't come close. Not to say she can't afford a house at all - she is a physician and medical director - but not just using her Masters Tournament winnings.

I would have loved for Juveria or Victoria to win - the two of them and Matt were my favourites at the start of the tournament, though I was definitely on the "anybody-but-Yogesh" train.

Yeah. I was assuming most of them would still have to get mortgages, or, if they were already looking and had the down payment, maybe it would be enough to offer cash, which is what is required where I live to purchase due to a severe housing shortage.

I’m completely in love with Victoria’s style of game play.

Curious what you mean by her style of play. (I like Victoria, but not sure I know the game well enough to discern a style.)
I've really liked Juveria since she first appeared, so this is not a criticism: while she's playing she presents herself like a teenage sales clerk whose manager left her in charge for 20 minutes. Like "I really shouldn't be here, but . . . "
That final game was great! They all deserved to be there and played well, and I was ready for some twists and turns.

Yogesh's story about being paraded in front of older kids to impress them with his knowledge made me think maybe his parents have been treating him like a show animal all his life, and that could account for his attitude and social presentation. It's not an excuse-- once you become an adult, you have to decide whether to stick with your parental legacy or grow, but it does seem like a possible origin story.
