S01.E12: Da Club

Oh I'm sorry for those who got interrupted.  I thought it ended pretty well.

I don't remember the particulars but basically, when Abby was talking to a bartending Neil (who got that fake job after declaring he wasn't a waiter at the club), she was reminded of a situation upstate when someone kept losing to another person until they got blackmail material and used it.

In the end, Olivia mentions that she noticed he seemed flirty with the nurse wife of the big donor while they were in the courtroom and that when she interviewed witnesses for the incident, it was noted his wife wasn't there.  Neil discovered, through talking to  people at the club in his role as a bartender, that the DA had been there the night of the incident with a young woman resembling the wife of the donor.  They threatened to tell the big donor that the DA was sleeping with his wife if he didn't give up his plan to use Abby as part of campaign for reelection and didn't look at Abby's plan for better justice.

Hey, Kurt Fuller from "Evil"!

You say "Evil," I say "Psych!."

Well, definitely a much better second half.  And I agree with @Annber03 — nice to see Abby & Olivia in sync.

And Neil put himself out there, finally. Of course, then they had him shrink back to his shell.  Hey, Writers!!  If you want us to ‘ship these two, give this man an impassioned speech!   (Then put them in an elevator)

OT p.s.:  A teary-eyed “Thanks!” for the support last week.  Bless my mutuals; you know who you are.  It was a cheery light cast into my darkness, and I am truly grateful.

Abby still makes references to living upstate like she's new to and clueless about NYC.  Meanwhile she had to live there growing up if her father was a judge there.  It just doesn't add up

I thought the story was that Abby lived upstate with her mom, and she didn't grow up with her dad in the home full-time? I'm more irritated by the fact that where she grew up (by the Finger Lakes) is considered Central NY, not upstate😃😃

Anything north of New Rochelle is called upstate 😊And the further you go the more unidentifiable as NY it gets!

Abby grew up with her dad.   But it is possible that he left the bench adn was teaching full time by the time he married Abby's mom.

It bothers me more that they act like "Upstate" is all farm country and country bumpkins.   The freaking state capital is Upstate.   Buffalo is Upstate.  Etc.  Skaneateles is not exactly podunk.   Except to NYC writers.

yeah, the portrayal of the upstate country hicks is way overdone and, as someone originally from near Albany but more rural, it's just insulting

Ha, did you see me say this last week?  Except I said to a NYC-er anything north of Yonkers is considered "upstate"!  😊

I agree, but to this NYC native I somehow doubt these writers are from NYC.  I didn't want to say they were portraying her like she was a "country bumpkin" because people might think I'm thinking that but I don't.  I have known many people from way upstate and that is definitely NOT the case!

I thought the story was that Harry met Abby's mother when she got out of jail and went upstate to teach because it would have been awkward for a judge to be married/involved with someone who he put in jail.  So they both left together and Abby was born and raised in upstate.

Meh on the storyline but I loved Oliva's outfit.

Maybe to people in NYC, but I married into a CNY family (Syracuse, Finger Lakes area) and boy did I get the looks/comments/retraining on this one! Central New Yorkers are adamant that "upstate" is for the eastern part of the state. What did I know, I'm from Central Illinois, aka "downstate" despite being only 100 miles south of Chicago! 😄😄

I’ve never heard this. Believe me, I’ve been there central NY is upstate.

Very fun episode that utilized the whole cast. Been a fan of Kurt Fuller for a long time, who is almost always playing a slimeball so it was fun to see him and Dan interact (though Dan has cleaned himself up). Always entertaining seeing Dan in his element. Some funny lines, the delivery of the front office guy about nobody wanting to see Neil's neck made me laugh in particular.

"Da Club". When Abby lands a meeting with the New York City district attorney to talk about her ideas for reform, Dan invites himself along to share his expertise in the art of "backroom dealing." Gurgs teaches Neil a lesson in confidence.

This one was OK, but I'm getting tired of Neil pining after Abby. Why did Jeff seem familiar?
