AnimeMania June 12, 2022 Share June 12, 2022 Ummm, what can I say? I think the new hyper-sexuality of the show is covering up some of the weakness of the stories they do about the investigations or are those stories just supposed to be fluff. The show always tries to hedge their bets on the results of the investigations. I guess they have to continue to do investigations or Ben would have no reason to be in the show. The girls are still extremely annoying when they all clamor for attention at the same time, but are fine when they are not all trying to out yell each other. The demon/monsters are fine, but could be better looking. That thing on Sheryl's bed looked like it was made out of Play-Doh. How is Sheryl praising her babysitting skills if she is asleep in another building when she should be watching the kids. The least she could do is fall asleep in the same building. I guess Kristen is going to invite David to family dinner, if she was smart she would also invite Ben as well. I believe Kristen's husband thinks she has a crush on both of them. I never believed something like this would come out of my mouth, but I think the show was a little too sexy and should tone it down and buff up the investigations more, maybe even spend a little more time going through the history (pseudoscience) of the things they were investigating, I found it kind of interesting and would have liked a little more debate for or against. They are focusing too much on the soap opera personal drama going on in all their lives. 3 1 6 Link to comment
jada June 12, 2022 Share June 12, 2022 (edited) I'm interested in seeing where things go with the husband being back and being suspicious of Sheryl. Other than that it is back to the same old "inconclusive" investigations. They need to work to tie things together a bit with stories that end in the same episode plus an overarching storyline that runs for the season or the whole series... And enough with all the swearing, just because you can. They sound like kids who have escaped their parents for a few minutes and are getting in all the swearing they have time for. And, do Kristen and her husband not communicate at all, when he's away? He didn't know she changed the locks, and she didn't know he was selling the business and coming home for good? And, flushing the demon-y thing down the toilet? That won't create any issues. And yeah, the girls' constant chattering over each other has always been annoying and sounded unnatural. Also, that big house only has one bathroom? I know it doesn't sound like it, but I was really excited about the show coming back. I just hope it's going in a more interesting direction, which for me, has always happened in the quieter moments. I think the chamber experiment would have been more interesting without all the drama and chaos. Edited June 12, 2022 by LADreamr 1 1 1 4 Link to comment

It was funny to hear Sister Andrea chastise Dr. Boggs for swearing within the context of all the other language flying this episode. It doesn't bother me - I especially got a kick out of the curse words Sheryl was using when she was praying to her Eddie dolls :p - but I can see where it'd be a little jarring for others. I really liked the case this episode. The concept was very intriguing, and I liked all the suspense and tension during each experiment. The way the room was set up just added to the creepy nature of what they were trying to do, and the fact that everyone's coats were red...well, given this show's history with the symbolism and darker/negative implications involved with that color, I think that gives a lot of credence to David's theory at the end. Either that, or the use of that color here connects well to Ben and Kristen's general feeling of unease about scientists trying to "play God", as it were. Or it's a mix of both. I especially liked the whole thing involving the two male priests throughout, and how everything with them affected the outcome of that particular experiment. The ending to that aspect of the story was really sad and heartbreaking. I'm also one who's always been fine with the daughters, but I do like how they utilized their constant "talking over each other" thing here, the very thing so many complain about with them as it is, to annoy the crap out of Leland :D. I'm so glad that Lexis was on to Leland's trap from the get-go, and I love how she got her sisters in on the act to mess with him. I just hope this doesn't backfire on them somehow, and that they do tell their mom what they've been doing as soon as possible. 'Cause otherwise, I can see this scheme going sideways very, very fast. I also liked Kristen coming in with a restraining order and calling Leland out on his "I wasn't around her!" lies. Not that her attempt to keep him away did any good, mind, which is sadly how these sorts of things go in real life, too, but still, it was a good moment regardless. I also loved David and Ben getting in on the smug, "We got you" act - Ben playing that ominous little "Dun-dun,-da-dun..." bit on the organ as Leland was being escorted out of the room especially cracked me up XD. As for Kristen and David...hm, so the kiss was real, but everything that came after wasn't, then? Interesting. I'm not surprised David would still be having such intense visions and fantasies of her in and of itself, mind, given their history and the fact that he's still very newly ordained and they did kiss and all, but the way those visions are playing out is rather...unnerving, with Kristen's weird forked tongue and all. I am curious how he'll deal with that going forward, and why these fantasies are playing out as they are - clearly there's something darker and more sinister afoot here, but how that will impact him and his relationship with Kristen, who knows? Don't blame Andy for wanting Sheryl out, now he's home for good. But he's totally going to regret flushing that shrunken head thing down the toilet, isn't he, or trying to, at least? Yeah. And I'm bracing for how Sheryl will react as well. Also, thanks, show, for making me unable to hear "If You Could Read My Mind" the same way ever again. That was weird. Good to have this show back1 Very interested to see what craziness unfolds for everyone this season. The new credits are neat, and I liked the nod to Peter Scolari at the end :). 1 14 Link to comment

Swearing doesn't bother me, I just find it lazy and juvenile when it's overused. Especially on a smart show like this, I want to hear smart writing, and the constant use of swearing - for shock value, or just because they are allowed to, or whatever - takes me out of it. If Sister Andrea had been the only one to use it, that would have been funny. 4 1 1 Link to comment
ferjy June 12, 2022 Share June 12, 2022 OMG it was hilarious when the girls were all chattering at Leland at the same time in the game (poor piggie), sending Leland into a completely flustered state. 🤣 I’m another that loves the overlapping chatter. If you’ve ever had a room full of girls over for a sleepover, you’d see they’re depicting it to a T in the show. Little girls are like a gaggle of geese when they get together. 1 3 11 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy June 12, 2022 Share June 12, 2022 Wow, this show has gotten a lot hornier than I expected. I have enough of demon Kristen in lingerie in this episode and I hope she will not be regularly featured in David’s dream. We know horny demon adds nothing to Ben’s storyline in S2 other than just a distraction. She’s then forgotten. Why is David suddenly seeing Sister Gertrude? Is the demon’s soul can actually be transferred? I think Kristen and David got intimate that night but she didn’t remember since she’s so possessed. Her demeanour changed, more seductive and we can see the burnt scar on her stomach. But they didn’t show it with the tongue demon. Just a theory. Quite an intriguing and harrowing case of the week. In some parts, the lighting techniques and the settings did give me the X-Files vibe. Why the pickled demon head is kept under Kristen’s bed? Who put it there? It belongs to Sheryl, she took over a demon house from him. I still cannot tolerate the loud, noisy daughters. Why are they behaving like over excited puppies on sugar high most of the time? Credit to Lexis for being able to read Leland from the get go. I have a feeling that TPTB doesn’t really know what to do with Leland anymore after 2 seasons. We’ll see. The dedication to Peter Scolari is nice and thoughtful. I hope the absence of Bishop Thomas Marx will be explained later. I also hope we will have some answers on the demon goo, why Sheryl has 💯 crossed over to the demon side and didn’t hesitate to lead a demon house, Karima’s baby (miscarriage or abortion?) and why Andy can suddenly see demonic entity? 4 Link to comment
Chaos Theory June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 (edited) Leland is just getting his ass kicked by Kristen AND her daughters. Watching Kristen accuse him (in from of a catholic priest) of grooming her daughter and then watching her daughters outsmart him online are both my new moods. Yeah the show has gotten a little sexy pants but then lust is David's sin of choice and he does lust after Kristen so having her be the one in his dreams now after she confessed to straight up murder fits with both their stories. So a priest in love with another priest on his deathbed doesn’t die and it’s the saddest thing ever because they can no longer be friends because one confessed their love to the other I do like the idea that a soul may not weigh anything but a person's demons do. phalange June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 It's going to be interesting to see David trying to deal with his demon/hallucination version of Kristen who shows up in his room at night. Kristen and Ben both had demons so now it's David's turn. Creepy how the ghost of dead Sister Gertrude was standing in the corner watching them. Leland continues to be the literal worst. And the church too, for letting him back on the case just because he told them he went to the girls' school at the principals request, which sounds like a blatant lie. Lexis is smart, recognizing that the other player in the game is Leland and getting her sisters to play and annoy the crap out of him, but Kristen isn't going to be happy if she finds out they're doing that instead of telling her immediately, like they promised. There's no way Andy flushing the demon head down the toilet isn't going to come back to haunt them, probably literally. Sheryl praying to Eddy for help to deal with Andy was hilarious. A+ line delivery. 4 Link to comment

Chaos Theory June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 (edited) I have always really like Kristen's daughters because they are a realistic depiction of young children. Yes children in groups really do act like that. Most children aren't well behaved little adults who sit on the sidelines waiting to say their cute line and then walk back off the stage. They are whirlwinds of energy talking over each other and at each other. I really like that Kristen's daughters are being portrayed as children but not dumb children just to move the plot along or be constantly rescued by the trio. Lexis knew she was being honey trapped in the Bumble Bee world by Leland immediately and although she didn't tell mom about it like she promised she did tell her sisters and they outsmarted him as kids do in a group to someone who isn't used to being around kids. I think that was the joke. Evil trying to be a little meta. Leland is the person not used to being around children. He can handle one at a time but several of them would overwhelm him. Because children do act like this. Edited June 13, 2022 by Chaos Theory 3 13 Link to comment
tennisgurl June 13, 2022 Share June 13, 2022 Its great having this show back again, as weird and interesting as ever. I liked the soul machine, so much that I wish we had spent a little bit more time on that than on some of the other subplots, it was a really interesting concept and the ending was a real heartbreaker. Our souls cant be measured, but the demons we carry can be. I'm one who has always liked Kristen's daughters and how they usually act like real kids and not either precocious adults or eternally three, and I love that Lexis weaponized their chattering to drive Leland up the wall. That's Leland for you, for all of his big talk he completely loses his cool the second he finds himself in a situation that's frustrating or makes him feel like he isn't totally in control. It also seemed like a bit of meta fun, the show knows that the girls all chattering together can be annoying and uses it for a plot device and for a joke. I'm impressed that Kristen's husband has already caught onto how creepy Sheryl is, they need to get her out of the house ASAP. She's creepier than most of the demons that pop up on the show. This show has gotten even hornier ever since they left Prime Time, but its really just more of what we have always had, just more so. Now its David's time for weird sex visions, which is unfortunate for him as lust has always been one of his favorite sins. I miss George's "next week on..." bit at the end. 4 6 Link to comment

I do miss George, no other Demon measures up. I loved the storyline with Wallace Shawn and I hope that's not the last of him or it. I think I agree that Kristen did come back for the nookie, it's another of those ambiguous notes, but something about her reaction was seeking for David to let her know it was okay, if she hypothetically had come back for more. I love that the show doesn't ever completely resolve these ambiguities. I wonder if part of Lexis situation is down to Andy's spiritual deal at the end of S1. 6 Link to comment

One of the small minor notes that grounds Evil in melancholy. And Wally Shawn is always a treat! And David, get your ass over to Sister Andrea Martin and tell her about the demon you are sleeping with! So WILL Kristen's shrink convert? Will Sister Andrea Martin accept his conversion if he joins another religion? And why was the shrunken head under Kristin's bed? Did Rad-G put it under there as her first shot in the war against Kristen's husband (whose name I can never remember.) If that's the thing (the shrunken head) which symbolizes her head of one of the 60 houses, what happens when the head gets flushed down the toilet? And yes, I think what's-his-name DID see the demon guarding Grandma. He has some spirituality to him as well, and probably senses things. I think it was a great idea for the shrink to suggest "normalizing" David in the family life. I would have suggested that myself. As the kids get older, they are realizing more and more that there is evil in the world, and Mom's "demon stuff" is serious. They're young, but they are smart and strong. 4 Link to comment

KittyQ June 20, 2022 Share June 20, 2022 Happy the show is back, but there are so many questions after this episode: How is it that Kristin and Andy haven't discussed (even remotely) having the locks changed, and getting a buyer for the business? Not everyone can talk together every night when apart, but it wasn't as though he was on a mountain the way he usually is; theoretically, selling this business isn't much different from selling any other business. The work is done in offices, in meetings, with lawyers, etc. So why not call home once in a while? It is laughable that Sheryl has the nerve to say that she's providing babysitting / childcare "for free" when she's living there for free and goes to her space that isn't even in the house while the kids are up and doing who knows what! You could argue that she's a liability to the kids. I know that Andy is clueless (or uninformed, if you like) but shouldn't he have at least asked Kristin about the jar under the bed before opening it and then throwing the contents down the toilet? As a person who has toilets with issues, I couldn't believe he'd try to flush that weird head down the toilet. They only have one toilet for goodness' sake! Why jeopardize that? (I hope they have a plumber on speed-dial). It is unclear to me why the dying priest would have had a demon. It doesn't sound as though he did evil things or acted strangely. It sounded as though he was very devout and good. So why a demon? Did the demon just hang around waiting to latch onto the next person to die in that space? Why the nun? Didn't she also get the benefit of deathbed confession and absolution? It sounds as though David is now afflicted by a succubus, so shouldn't he report this and have the team help him? I know that the show can't follow up on everything, but it would be nice if they did a little more than just raise these questions. 1 3 Link to comment

The implication was that his demons were more personal in nature, rather than an actual proper evil demon, what with his unrequited affections for the other priest and all. Once he finally felt more comfortable expressing his affection for his friend, going so far as to kiss him at one point, and once he found the peace and comfort in that dying vision he'd had of his friend reaching out for him, and things of that sort, it felt like a literal weight had been lifted off his shoulders and the "demon", as it were, disappeared. Course, given he had to transfer to another church at the end, since he and the other priest weren't sure if they could still interact with each other at this church, I wonder if that means that weight, as it were, will return at some point and affect him once more. And since his demons did transfer to that nun, and David saw her in his room later that night when he was having that intense sexual fantasy about Kristen, maybe that affects how evil the demon is or becomes? 1 3 Link to comment

My thoughts are mostly repeats of others so this is likely pointless but I like throwing in my agreements when I can. 😜 I looove the girls still! They're so fun and realistic, and I was so worried about Lexis until the reveal that she knew it was Leland all along. They were hilarious, driving him crazy--the zoom in on Leland's pig avatar face?? Amazing. Groundbreaking. Emmys all around. Still unhappy David and Kristen kissed at all, but extremely glad it ended. I know it probably won't last, because heaven forbid we have a show without the opposite sex main characters NOT be into each other, but... oh, and I'm still a little heartbroken about the ending for the Monsignor and Wallace Shawn. :( 3 Link to comment
