Shahs in the Media

I'm actually glad Lilly is gone, even though I did enjoy her random gaudy glamour and plastic soul in very small doses---to be a former lawyer and a successful entrepreneur, she came across as one of the most vapid, materialistic bimbos to ever star on a Bravo series. And don't even get me started on that awful California-chickie voice of hers, with the constant squeaky-voiced upspeak she'd use, ugh! But yeah, she was quite boring, in all her non-partying, no-real-storyline, not-liked-by-the-others glory.

Still love me some Reza, even though his schtick has worn thin in the last season or more. MJ is apparently still a sloppy mean drunk, and let's hope that psycho GG is finally benefitting from anger management. I always have loved Mike and the hippie-dippie artsy vibe of Asa.

I think this spoof perfectly captures the basic vibe of this show at its tacky best: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X8xeFkjOWY0

Not sorry Lilly is gone. She was never going to let go and go with the flow. She was always too on guard. She didn't have to get wasted, but the stick was so far up her ass all the time and she was a snobby bitch. Then there was her voice......

Good luck marrying her felon.

Okay, so WHO is the new gal? She's in the last small screenshot of everyone standing by the logo but didn't look all that glam or like anything special.

I was honestly hoping they'd get another guy, like maybe that dude with the big nose and hair feather whom GG was shortly engaged to on the 2nd season. He was douchey and annoying, but he did keep things wacky and even got a fair amount of talking heads for a "friend" of a cast member.

Love the show but no problem I can wait.

With the millions of dollars Bravo executives and Ryan Seacrest stash in their pockets and toss around they can put some to good use by making sure the people who really bust their butts to make the show have some health benefits.

If I am of not going crazy I just watched a new episode on Bravo tonight title "this is 40?". (2014). Me thinks sneaky Bravo just gave the finger to everyone!

Well, I just went and checked out Wikipedia and the Bravo blogs and it looks like this episode was for season 3 not 4. Guess I missed it the first time that it aired.

So much for Shahctober. There was some light promotion over the late summer claiming the Shahs would return in October, but it is now November and there is no sign of its return. Has Bravo totally canned this series?

The editors went on strike, so the premiere has been pushed back (no one knows how far). As far as I know, Bravo still plans to air season 4. Their website even has a few preview pictures, and possibly a video or two.

Thanks, OnceSane.  I genuinely enjoyed the last few episodes of last season when the bickering stopped and the Shahs all traveled to Turkey. I hope the network is able to settle the dispute with the editors because it would be a shame if the show were permanently shelved due to contract disputes and the like. Surely Bravo can afford to pony up the extra dough for healthcare benefits.

Bravo is stupid if they let this show go in my opinion. It was different and I enjoyed it. You got to see a small glimpse of a different culture. You got to see real looking women who enjoyed their bodies and actually ate, not the plethora of Hollywood women that thinks 5 bites of food a day are 4 too many.

I hope it returns.

Agreed!!

I really miss this show too, and I hope that the taint "Euros of Hollywood" left with its recent flop of a performance didn't affect the re-airing of this show.

Plus, I thought the network was pushing Reza as one of its big "Bravolebrities" and that the ratings have been good---Reza has appeared in many of the recent commercial promos, after all!

I'm just befuddled as to why this season isn't being pushed out yet. Is it a boring mess?

Some clips of the Shahs being interviewed relatively recently

I think GG waiting a whole year to disclose Mike made a pass at her may have been producer driven, in part. It seems someone may have come to her with the idea to make this incident part of her season 5 storyline. At least Mike seems to think so according to the interview clip above.

It would be cuter without Mike in it. I can't believe that dude is going to be back on my television. Can't stand him, and if I had any inkling of interest left in this show, it just went bye-bye.

Not that the others are much better, I suppose.

Oh, I'm sure they ALL will be falling all over Mike, welcoming him back to the group now that he's no longer with the hated Jessica that stole him away from them. Not looking forward to that.

As long as there are Persian Nom parties I'm in and I can always fast forward and put it on mute.

Watching just for the food porn too, I can't think of anything else I am looking forward to except not seeing Jessica's plastic face.

Is it me, or does the trailer for the new season seem... odd? creepy?

Why is Reeza dreaming about he and Mike being giggling lovers? Didn't Reeza get married to some dumb twink last season?

I always assume that anyone, and I mean anyone, who decides to do a candid reality show has something missing that the rest of us has in our psyche.   It takes a certain lack, no matter how small, to think that one's own life, no matter how contrived for cameras it is, is worth a television show.  And even though 'reality' is a false construct in varying degree depending on the show, I cannot even think that in truth the President of the United States or the Queen of England or the Pope don't have somewhat mundane lives when all is said and done.  And they aren't doing 'reality'.

But each season this group seems to get more unhinged and more vicious and more dysfunctional as individuals let alone the pile on they always seem to think makes such gripping television.  They all seem so warped.  And not in the sad way that they are on Vanderpump Rules or some of the other attempts BRAVO has trying to recreate the lightning in a bottle that was the initial Real Housewives success.   Or even the over the top methods that seem to be the nice VH1 shows have craved out.

Instead these people simply seem to be mean stunted people.  Granted other shows have plenty of such people, but it seems more of something they end up not being able to hide for the most part (unless your name is Kenya Moore) as time goes on.  The cast of Southern Charm for instance had a slight charm the first season and now I find them all pretty much vapid and offensive in some way -- sure they sound much smarter than the usual BRAVO cast but that is such a low bar at the end of the day that I would find myself dulled to death by that crowd of losers with trust funds.

But these never really started with much at all in the way of charm or likeability.  And now they seem to actually revel in showing how horrific they can be.

That aside, I am curious to see what Mike is trying to sell now.  His posturing with the whole engagement thing of leased trappings of wealth and even what I hear temporary facades of simple employment was so sad and so small.  Now that he does not have that as a story, how will he spin his life in a way that does not leave him looking like Peter Russo sitting in a running car with Frank Underwood?

I wonder when this season filmed? It seems Mike and Jessica broke up around November (I think they were married last March or April?), so I wonder if we will see any of their wedded bliss?

My guess is Mike will be groveling to have his "position" back in the group after they were all on to Jessica and he didn't want to see it. They certainly are pushing the "Mike and Reza are totally bros again!" in the promos.

So are Jessica and Mike really divorced (or getting a divorce?).  Haven't heard too much about it - I'm too lazy too Google.  Is their break-up/separation a real thing or is it just part of a storyline for next season?  I think the Reza/Mike promos are odd.  Not feeling them so much.

The divorce is real.
