So Evan is on week 3 of FMLA and hanging out at the store with Carlin, after stopping by the house yesterday to pick up dozens of packages and make a moving plan for two weeks. Is it me or do they seem a little too "vacation-ish."

I mean I understand why he needed time off initially when they had no idea what was happening and it was all an emergency. As of last week she was saying she was on meds and when she was having episodes she could feel them coming on and they were milder; sure she didn't feel well, but seemed like if he had wanted to work, his family could have handled her + 2 kids for 40 hrs. I mean seems like she's handling the kids - IDK whether she's supposed to or not - but she walked into the new house carrying Layla rather than letting her walk.

Seems like maybe this week she has to go off the meds to do the multi day EEG; I could see why he'd need to be around for that - though IDK if that necessarily starts TODAY as they started their morning at the store, Sbux in hand. Why on earth is he using his unpaid FMLA like this instead of working in the weeks in which he can work and then using FMLA when Carlin needs him at home, they need to go to drs. appts. etc. Like are they making SUCH a killing on YT that it's like a regular paycheck, eh we don't even need that? Because it seems like he could have worked for like 1-1.5 wks of the time he's had off. That's not nothing in terms of pay esp when you have rent + mortgage + driving 3 hrs back and forth to Nashville isn't getting any cheaper given gas prices. Meanwhile he's cleaning out his parents' garage, planting flowers in his parents' home, mowing his parents' yard, and gushing over how great his new house looks, and talking about how the next two weeks will be crazy for packing/moving . . . .

Added - and now off to Lowes to pick flooring . . . . Weirdest use of FMLA ever. I guess FMLA isn't like sick or disability leave. I knew a guy who took disability leave after surgery/medical issues to recover; apparently he had recovered/didn't want to come back to that job so he was just out using his "time off" - got spotted playing basketball at a local park and was out the door. Guess FMLA isn't like that bc it's for whatever family help is needed - whether that's going to work with your wife or going with her to pick floor and decor?

I agree it looks bad that he’s on SM running around doing stuff when he’s on FMLA.  But to be fair, they didn’t know how these episodes were going to go or if meds would help or not. So he may have told his boss he needed 4 or 6 weeks off now (not the whole 12) and for now, can’t go back.  He would still need a dr’s note.  That’s what I would’ve done. I’m thinking he won’t stay out the full 12 unless she gets way worst. Once your 12 weeks are up, that’s it for the year and now your job can be in jeopardy.

I just watched Carlin's IG story. Why on earth are they going to cover what seem to be a wonderful hardwood floor with cheap laminate planks? They should just refinish the floor they have.

When they first showed the new house and that lovely flooring, I knew their dumb asses would get rid of it.  It isn't my cup of tea, but I would have lived with it, moved in and changed it later.  Because you know, it's in terrific condition.  I also can't figure out why they don't refinish the floors.

That seizure medicine must be working wonders to be back to "normal".  ugh 🙄

I really like the floors they currently have. But she said something about having dark floors in their rental and all the dirt showing. Plus everything need to white and plain gray and boring.

Well I would tell Carlin that knowing where the dirt is on a floor is a good thing when you have young kids and... all dirt is not light in color, lol.

Also the gray, white and greige trend is coming to an end. If she wants to keep up and be 'hip' she should start perusing the internet.

Funny how this have soooo much money to be wasting on covering real hardwood with laminate - a totally unnecessary renovation which REDUCES the value of the house that the HAD TO BUY at the peak of the market. Yet at the same time Carlin just posted a pic of staring out the window at the rain as she works on paying hospital bills this morning. And it looks like they're "applying" for some sort of aid/assistance/reduction from the hospital or Medicaid or somewhere bc she shows forms that she's filling out. IDK about everyone else but my bills from drs offices/health systems do not come with forms I have to fill out with sections for patient information and  "was this visit for work related issues." Most places you give them your insurance card upfront and you just get the residual bill for what insurance doesn't cover [copays; coinsurances; out of network specialists]; it looks like a credit card bill and often you log onto a portal to just pay it.

And yet yesterday on top of the flooring and a date night, Evan is measuring the wall for the biggest TV it'll hold. So I guess money isn't that tight? Or they hope someone steps up with hospital bill money or gifts them a TV? Though she didn't dwell on the bills, she was sure to mention them . . . . Just saying most people just starting out + a spouse on unpaid leave + rent + mortgage + 2 kids + hospital bills, would be like we have a TV, the giant TV that'll cost $1000+ (and likely more bc Evan only likes top of the line electronics) will have to wait.

I don't think he's going back to being an electrician full time ever. I think he is all too happy to be home renovating + working at BSB [like Zach; complete with ironic videos about working for his wife] + keeping the social media train rolling. I think like Zach they'll make a huge thing about how "the Lord put it in his heart" to invest in Carlin and the kids in this season of life and to spread their ministry -- i.e. YouTube; and then he'll pick up electrician work here and there if/when money gets tight.

Laminate floors are actually better for pets and kids, easier to maintain,  Not that I think that is the reason they are doing it.

I wouldn't expect either of them to have that much insight.

A friend of mine has Pergo flooring, and it's kind of a pain. No mop-and-bucket cleaning in case water gets between the pieces. No this and that. I find it rather irritating. My fake-wood tiles look better and are mostly easier to clean.

I think Pergo went out of business. That might be the reason.

Pergo is still in business, they merged with another flooring manufacturer a few years ago; but are still producing laminate floors under the Pergo name.

I have Pergo flooring in my bedroom, it is good with pets because their nails can't scratch it.  It is also easy to keep clean with a Swiffer and can be damp mopped easily.  However, I would never have put it in over a hardwood floor.  I've also got the wood-looking tile in my kitchen which I really love.  Regular hardwoods in the living/dining area though.  It's not that hard to keep them in good condition even with pets.

Their plan to install laminate over hardwood just goes to show how completely clueless Carlin and Evan are.  You'd think they'd do a little research into how to get a more durable surface on hardwoods; but, no, just slam some laminate on top because that's what they've seen on Flip or Flop and other home 'improvement' shows.  The fact that flippers do it because it is cheaper than taking care of hardwoods and they are in a hurry and don't care about quality seems to escape them.

Oh my Lort Daniel.  I have had white oak hardwoods in my kitchen, living room, dining room and hall for almost 40 years. It is on it's third color staining and I have never had a problem.  Just decide on a new color and let the experts at it.  It was light, then darker and now more neutral. They just love to spend the money.

Dark floors show everything, every pice of lint, dust, footprints, drops of water everything. I don't think it is about showing dirt as much as just anything that touches the floor. I've had both dark and light. Dark floors require constant attention.   I don't blame Carline and Evan for replacing the floors if they are only in a few rooms. It is better too have the same flooing throughout the house for resale. And if those are engineered wood floors they can only be refinished once or twice. I bet from the age of that house they are engineered wood floors.  Also like someone else said  LVP flooring is better if you have dogs. And tody's LVP flooring is not cheap laminate.

Who are these hanger oners who are so desperate for time with the Bates that they'll scrub Carlin's bathroom and spend 2 days scrubbing her tub?? This girl that's been with her all week must be related to the "friend" who is routinely shown cleaning Alyssa's house. I mean I expected she's a sweet friend from church who volunteered to help given Carlin's medical troubles; but it's one thing to have sweet friend drive you to Home Depot bc you can't drive and another to ask them to scrub your bathroom so it's move in ready. And Mr. and Mrs. Moneybags are spending money like there's no tomorrow, can they really not spend a few hundred on a cleaning service to detail the house rather than asking friends to scour tub nozzles with a toothbrush??

Yeah, I just caught up on Carlin's stories. I 've never seen Christian before, but someone picked up Callie and put her to work. 🙄

Poor Callie! This is how KJ is helping Carlin, she sends Callie! I’m putting money on seeing KJ next week when Katie shows up. She’ll probably be too busy arranging her Door Dash to actually do anything helpful, but she does like to hangout with her girls.

Yes and don't forget arranging their manicures and pedicures. Because you know that is a big deal for this crew.

Carlin also said this wasn’t their “forever” home so that could be why they are half a**ing the renovation. I think because so many of the Bateses seem to be in construction that Carlin felt like she needed to change things. So much more dramatic for SM too.

I wonder why it’s not their forever house.

It’s not grand enough for Carlin!😎

Plus they have aspirations of building. Evan was crowing about - we REALLY want to build our own house. As a freaking student at the peak of the market, they went to go see McMansions being built and I think really though they could get one for like 3% down; this was during the phase of the market where all cash offers or offers for 50k over asking were NBD. So I think reality slapped them in the face for now and they found a sweet friend from church to buy from ASAP.

All of that was before Carlin's health thing and all the time they've spent in Nashville, so now I imagine this isn't the forever home bc they will move to Nashville in the next 1-5 yrs, as it's clear as day that's where their family support is, not with G&K and whatever siblings remain in Knox.

Few things

Ellie ~ just turned 15 and is way too made up.  I liked makeup at that age too, but it wasn't false eyelashes, gobs of lip gloss/lipstick and fake nails.  How can KJ and GIl be happy with her looking so whorish?  Rhetorical question as they probably don't remember that she's their 16th kid.  And she is just doing what her older sisters are doing.

Callie ~ poor thing is being made to work like a horse.  Cleaning her sisters house, that honestly, looks pretty damn clean to begin with, all while her older, painted sister Ellie gets to go to Erin's and play with the animals.  Bet she'd rather do that.

KJ sitting on her ass while her young daughter cleans.  KJ can fuck off.  Carlin too for making her little sister do that.

She really is. I really hope KJ and Gil both get what they deserve.

Aren’t they applying for some kind of low income medical program?

Someone said that based on paperwork she showed. Besides saying that they have some bills, they haven’t mentioned money at all. To me, it looked like typical new patient paperwork for a new doctor.

Yea, that whole post was confusing. As you commented, it looked like new patient forms. But then Carlin posted "working on hospital bills". First of all what does "working on bills" even mean?

They haven't said anything about it. I assume they're using whatever coverage Evan has from work.

I don’t know his company policy, but he’ll have his insurance while using FMLA, that’s a law. However, his employer can still require him to pay his portion, if any, of the premium.

For me, it would be having a set time to sit down & write checks (if people still do that) or going online and paying them. I do it on my paydays for 10-15 mins. Maybe she just had all of her paperwork together.

But unless she says they’re applying for assistance, then it’s just a poster’s opinion. And sometimes an opinion goes around and becomes a (wrong) fact.

Carlin had a pen in her hand and filmed the forms that were on her bed. I'm not saying I know what she was or wasn't doing, as I said before, the post was confusing, but it didn't look like there was a bill in sight. Just like it didn't look like she was holding up bills in a different post, as I've never received bills in colored envelopes, but she called them bills. So its hard for me not to think she was hinting 'love offerings' from her followers.

I whole hardly agree (wrong) speculation frequently becomes fact and I find it very annoying.

If I was her sweet friend from church whose house I bought, I would be a little ticked off about the cleaning crew Carlin has shown.  I always left a house I was moving out of spotless, and would expect the new owners would do a bit of cleaning but I would be embarrassed if they showed people scrubbing on their hands and knees .

It probably was clean before the reno crew got in there. The only exception I could see would be the tub. How dirty was it before? Did they really have to clean the jets?

I’ve heard the jets can get mildew in them (from standing water) so they need to be cleaned out.
When my parents bought their house, my dad changed out all the toilet seats. Cleaning them wasn’t good enough, he said.

I hear a lot of people talk about germs in those jetted tubs.

Surely they have some kind of cleaner you could run through them!
