  1. Completely agree with the criticism of "the Lying Nun" story line. Was the character's arc supposed to be lighthearted and humorous? If so missed the mark by miles.
  2. Was this epi run out of sequence? I really, really wanted the story about the missing/murdered Indigenous women to continue. I think I have lost the track of that story. Any news on renewal or what the ratings are?
  3. I absolutely trust that Betty knows who she belongs to. Will's her guy. She will be thrilled to see anyone who will play with her or give her a treat, etc. But she knows who her 'guy' is - no worries. I think that Will stepping up for Nico so quickly has a good deal to do with his background. At the same time Will is no fool and I don't think he will tolerate any 'nonsense'. We shall see as the season progresses.
  4. I actually prefer that they keep Angie and Will a bit separate. Altho' they 'love' one another, she is toxic for him. This episode was pretty clear, at least to me, that Will really wants some connections with others. He and Faith are working out really well as colleagues and the scenes between Will and Nico were loaded with emotion and need on both sides. Both actors conveyed as much with their expressions as with their lines of dialogue. While the resolution seemed a bit rushed, I agree that Amanda's boss knows more than he revealed. He was VERY uncomfortable at the end of that meeting. Boy, the acting in this series is really excellent.
  5. I really do understand the push pull WIll and Angie have. They understand each other due to their awful childhoods - that they shared at some point. They may be used to having the other around. And they certainly are comfortable with one another because they lived thru the worst together. They don't have to explain anything to the other. Also, I do think that Angie's erratic behavior regarding men can be traced directly back to her mother pimping her out as a child. I think the only thing I am surprised at is that she is a functioning (semi functioning?) human being at all.
  6. I watched my first episode this evening and I was a bit underwhelmed. Laroquette, as always, simply knocked it out of the park. It was a real pleasure to see him in a show again. Rauch underwhelmed me and I think it might be the writing or perhaps the conception (?) of the character. Seemed very one note pony. I always thought she showed real chops in BBT, but she underwhelms here. Sometimes seems to be speaking almost in a monotone and way to rushed. Boy do I miss Warfield. She often was the observer/participant who tied everything together, and her 'cynicism' combined with her real liking and appreciation of the folks around her was a truly lovely acting performance. The new bailiff is not up to snuff. It certainly could be the way the part is written and the actor is directed, but her character is a waste of space and so very, very predictable as the 'stupid' woman in the show for laughs. The actor playing the prosecutor speaks WAY too quickly and sometimes in a monotone. I began simply ignoring her. Again, the writing could be the problem but the way she is being directed could also be the issue. I will check in when the show does not interfere with a show I like and perhaps it will improve. I certainly hope so as I dearly love the original and had high hopes for this reboot.
  7. Does anyone know if there are plans for a season 2?
  8. I was horrified when the guys discovered the hidden room and the mask used to terrorize the patient who committed suicide. But so far this mystery is a mystery to me. Who gains from this poor veteran's horrors and why would any medical facility be so cruel. The writing on this show is very, very good. Can't wait for next week when we find out and the guilty are punished.
  9. Let us not forget that some people had access to sending the 'unfortunate' girl away to 'relatives' until the baby was born and then put up for adoption. 'Relatives' were of course a home for unwed mothers. The horrors of the 'mother and baby' homes in Ireland were fairly unique to Ireland I believe. I could be wrong about that.
  10. I began watching out of idle curiosity; Alaska - always interesting and different; Hilary Swank - always interesting choices of roles and a damn fine actor. So very glad I did. This show has turned into 'must see tv' for me. The supporting cast are all so interesting, but I am very intrigued with the development of the story involving the female First Nation reporter. Very good tv and I hope it gets enough viewers to continue.
  11. AND..........I got Georgie from Grantchester. I accept
  12. Any info on a new season starting soon (I hope) on PBS?????
  13. Upon a bit of reflection, I have modified my previous opinion. I truly think that the Barbara and Melissa scene was not meant to be as brutal as it turned out. Sometimes friends can tire of another friend's preoccupations. And we all know Janine's unrelenting cheer and 'can do' sometimes can be grating. Still the scene was too harsh. That said, I truly loved this epi. As an ex HS teach, albeit many years ago, there were/are so very many constant irritations, roadblocks and sheer frustrations during a 'normal' day - not that I ever thought any day was normal - that this epi felt very, very real. Non show question: for those active teachers on this site, are there still coaches and administrators who apply pressure on a teacher to give a good grade - or change a grade - for a good athlete when a "big game" is imminent? How I hope that has changed. PS Sorry as this question would not apply to Abbott, but I am curious. Clearly that happened to me once in my 10 yr career.
  14. I am so rhythm challenged that I never noticed Henry was supposed to not have rhythm 😉
  15. I live in Milwaukee adjacent and most elementary schools are K-8, both in the city and some of the 'burbs. Lots of Montessori programs and they are all k-8
  16. I completely enjoyed the series but am a bit puzzled by one thing in the final. Did Sister Michael keep her job or not? The smile she and the priest shared after the reveal that "the Bishop didn't say much", could mean either she failed to convince him or she is keeping her job. I must admit I have never heard of a Bishop changing his mind regarding a transfer. Anyone have a clue?
  17. I appreciate all the comments, but I am firmly in the corner of "I love this show". The talent is riveting, basically because I have always love Stever Martin Short (see what I did there?) And then to see Andrea Martin...a cherry on top of the whipped cream. I watched SCTV back in the day and loved everyone. If you are not familiar Google the show and you will be astonished at the talent. But, I digress, I actually prefer shows that do crime semi-seriously. Life is often not all that linear (yeah, age is, but life?). Many things that we see or think or have happen to us are not really completely resolved. The 'serious' crime shows wrap everything up in a bow and life is not like that. And the comedy allows for inconsistencies because it either doesn't matter or it is referring to future plot.
  18. My niece who worked in many top restaurants in Milwaukee (do not scoff, we eat well and enjoy it all) including sous chef at more than one restaurant here. While she has started her own business, unrelated to food, she has told some harrowing stories about kitchens and the climate including rampant sexual harassment. She is a personality who walked off more than one kitchen before her sous chef days. Her own business involves flowers! Anyway, her comment was the idea that any chef would allow anyone else to be addressed as chef was fantasy. She stopped watching. She could of course be biased.
  19. True libgirl2, and I want to reiterate that I believe the same. I may not have been clear in my post that ALL sects that give one sex power over all things are rife with abuse. More seems to come to light all the time, including some evangelical sects.
  20. Shocking literally no one who is on these posts, today the 'mainstream' Mormon church is under investigation for hiding child abuse. A lawsuit has been filed against the church by a woman who was abused by her father, as was a younger 'sister', and the church never reported it. Shades of the Catholic church scandal and as a RCR (roman catholic retired), I think I can state definitively.......it's about damn time! Every sect pretending that men are the 'gods' of the sect, needs to be investigated, disbanded or reimagined. Thank the lord for the current pope who is trying, but powerful people are entrenched and want to retain their power. Regardless of the 'belief system', any sect pretending that one sex has the ultimate answer to all questions because they and they alone commune with god.....should be disbanded. Scientologists don't seem to have a 'god', but some sort of weird supreme alien...really the same thing.
  21. Are there any TAR players left? I am really not invested - I didn't even watch after about 20 minutes or so. Almost done depending on Tyler and TAR players.
  22. Hunh, finally noticed the lead-in to this show is Big Brother. I guess that explains why so few TAR players are involved.
  23. I admit to tuning in and out.... other channels or reading a book while the show is on. I truly do not care about anyone other than the TAR contestants and Tyson. That's it. I dislike the other two shows and want nothing to do with the contestants. Tyson is not someone who would be a great presence in my personal life, but he is smarter and more insightful than the average person and that gives him leverage. He must have some strong personal charisma in person as witnessed by his previous performances. So, he may not be 'likeable', but so what? I think he has the chops to win and right now I hope he does. Also, really only 3 TAR contestants? Did everyone else on TAR give this garbage a pass? Or did they really only want 3 from TAR? For the show to have legitimacy (yeah, of course I am joking), each show should have had an equal number of contestants.
