  1. jcbrown - you make some good points. I hadn't really thought about the bombing in that way. I think you are correct, a flashback does reduce/eliminate a good deal of emotional commitment. So many comments reveal that the show is clearly lacking that 'something' that engages the audience. I say writing, but it could be something else. I am in it for JLM and now the actor playing his sister - the actor is very good in the role.
  2. Unless I am dreaming (entirely possible), I think they showed the bombing. However I believe it was a flashback sequence. Anyway it would be in one of the early episodes.
  3. Oh good gravy. I 100% agree with everyone about the needed changes! GET NEW WRITERS AND A NEW SHOWRUNNER!
  4. The Fox story line is really turning bittersweet. I do appreciate the storyline as her imperfect family struggles and she tries to fill in when she can. I smile every time she intimidates her brothers - - - I never had that power, they just kept doing whatever...... I really do love this show.
  5. Does anyone know if DIP is showing in England? I thought I briefly heard a comment on the radio that a character is missing?
  6. WOW, the actor playing Mark certainly has piled on the inches. Good for him. Took me a minute to get over his being taller than his original crush 😁
  7. I discovered that the show is based on a true story and apparently the book that the guy wrote. Don't ask why that made things more interesting but it did. I really liked this episode and I do think the addition of the sister being part of the case was a good one.
  8. Private Eyes was head and shoulders above this outing, even if the final season(s?) weren't shown in the US. The female (Max?) has potential but she is overdoing the part. Or perhaps it is the writing. Whichever, it is annoying. The male character is taking a back seat by being constantly outdone by the dame. I'll stick for a few more epis as I want to see if the show settles down and lets the actors get a grip.
  9. I wasn't particularly engaged during E.1 so I might go back and rewatch on Passport. LOVED E.2. I don't think her character is really clueless. Sometimes comedians simply react in ways that would seem odd to me. She is trying her hardest to get the attention of those who can help her and it looks like she has. Can't wait for the rest of the season.
  10. It took me a bit, but I really enjoy this show. The kids are fantastic.
  11. Loved this episode (altho' none of us should take a drug not specifically prescribed for us). The uncertainty about the diagnosis and what it might mean for Viv was well done w/o going overboard. The scene with the brother who had clearly picked up that something was wrong (as all kids do) was very sweet w/o being treacly. Well done show!
  12. I assume ratings for the 2 shows were a problem? I didn't hate 'Burbs, but it wasn't "must see" tv. I do wonder if Everyone offended some group. It is very funny and, at times sweet, but definitely fodder for those wanting some outrage practice.
  13. I am so over the daughter Sully - the surgeon under indictment (or whatever). Her behavior imitates a college sophomore not a highly skilled and respected surgeon. Surgeons are notorious for their 'hubris' and for being difficult. Probably traits that are needed when you sit down and really think about what they are doing - basically playing god. Anyone who has worked in health care or even health care adjacent has heard plenty of stories about behavior in the OR. Some so outrageous as to be funny. And of course all the stories end with a positive patient outcome. She (sorry can't remember the character's name) exhibits none of the confidence needed for that profession. There is nothing about her that screams successful surgeon who is so outstanding that she is on a pedestal and must be emulated. Scott Peterson is good in his role, but can't save the series.
  14. The degree to which I really enjoyed the exchanges between Alex and Rose really highlighted how truly awful the ex wife is. Perhaps partly due to acting, but mostly due to the profoundly boring/stereotypical writing for the character. Have the ex and the sis get together and then only bring sis back. Or don't. I don't care actually. I kind of like the male assistant (ducking), but truly dislike the female. The actor sometimes speaks so quickly I miss her lines! And I am not hard of hearing. What is it with speaking as if your lines don't matter. If they don't matter then maybe they should be cut. Harumph!
  15. I really loved this show as well and watched every time my PBS station reran it. Sadly, it is no longer on the local PBS schedule and the replacement is not particularly interesting (DCI Banks). Lewis reigns supreme!
  16. I don't really understand what PBS is doing with this show. It might only be my local station, but all of a sudden Death is on at 10pm on Sat. Here in the upper midwest that is the time for news and late night talk. And now we are restarting from S. 1 Epi 1. Yes it is fun to relive the past but nothing new on the horizon? Also, endless reruns of the first 11 seasons of Midsommer Murders. I haven't seen a new Barnaby epi since January. Has BBC upped the price? Is PBS in trouble?
  17. I do love this show. The acting is great and the 'plots', while often silly, reflect the craziness that comes with 3 little kids. And the work stuff is hilarious
  18. I am ashamed at how ignorant I felt at the end of epi. 1 While I was aware of the slaughter, I was not aware of the subtext - destroy the native tribes. I was aware of the need for some items but not the total waste of the rest of the animal. I almost threw up at the sight of the mountain of bones with people posing on them. Or the slaughter because they threatened cows? Ugh. I knew many of the facts but never spent the time putting the story together. Once again Thank You Ken Burns.
  19. There is something that keeps bringing me back in addition to JLM. But the writing keeps trying to push me away. I am now invested in what the sis is planning on doing with her 'time'. Got a feeling she will become his computer expert and partner. Looking forward to more of her and less wife - sadly exie works at the FBI so not sure how we reduce her time. The entire teaching thing made me want to leap thru the screen screaming...I am an ex teacher and NOONE with any version of sense, brain power, humanity and compassion would drop an unprepared newbie into a LECTURE HALL of college kids. Absolutely nuts for a side plot. Still, I will keep watching......hoping against hope that the writing/plotting improves drastically.
  20. The writing has certainly NOT been the making of the show so far. The NTSB investigation was not even mentioned I don't think. Everything needs to tighten up to be a success. Dump the ex spouse storyline - boring Get new writers or motivate their creativity - pay them more now that the strike is over? Needs to start getting better soon. Alaska Daily hit the ground running and was still cancelled.
  21. Watching here in the US on the CW channel. Enjoyed the show very much (more than Sullivan's Landing). I do think the whole "you look like sisters" trope is meant to be a joke; the folks saying it to mom are trying to suck up to her while she thinks it is a 'real' compliment. The daughter is having none of it. It does remind me a bit of SO Help Me Todd as someone above mentioned.
  22. I was also underwhelmed and I knew nothing about the books or the story line. I still don't know why she and her partner in the practice where charged. Where did I miss it? Did the charges in any way interfere with her medical expertise? I do get the ER patient she diagnosed w/a broken leg who later died is an issue, altho' I am don't know what the proper medical steps should have been. Very reminiscent of Virgin River. I'll give it another couple of tries but I am not hopeful.
  23. While I am bored with the entire ex/wife/hubby push /pull, the brother/sister relationship is beginning to show some promise. At least it is somewhat different and I am hoping for the best. I'm in it for the long haul due to JLM so am willing to sit thru the 'growing pains' of a new series. Just, PLEASE dump the ex/hubby/wife trope.
